They started out as best friends. They met as children and by the time they were teenagers, they were hopelessly in love. Two dark haired boys, one big and strong - a football player, the other lean and passionate, wanted to be a writer.

Prom was coming up and Seth wanted to ask his boyfriend to go with him. Of course they were going together, their tickets were already bought but he wanted to make his man feel special and Roman was always doing romantic things for him and it was time that he returned the favor.

Roman was Samoan and he used that as the inspiration for his promposal and looked up native dances. He poured over countless dances on YouTube and spent weeks learning the dance and finding a costume. He found the perfect setting, the dock where they first kissed and set up so many candles and their reflection off the water was warm and bright.

He waited patiently for Roman to show up, a breeze blowing across the water and making him shiver; his legs, chest and arms were bare after all. While he waited, he thought of the beautiful future that they had planned out. Roman had a full football scholarship at a great university and he would follow him there studying journalism. They would graduate and Roman would play football professionally while Seth made his name as a writer and when they were ready, they would adopt the first of many children. They both wanted big families.

Through his musings he faintly heard the sound of Roman's old car cresting the hill and stopping. The rest of the short journey had to be taken on foot. He stood up and walked to the middle of the dock taking a deep breath when he saw Roman coming around the edge of the trees.

Roman came closer to the dock and looked at all the candles and his heart lept when Roman's eyes landed on him and he smiled. He started his dance but when his foot hit the dock, his contact lens fell out. Suddenly he couldn't see properly but continued dancing, refusing to close his bad eye and spoil the effect. Without his contacts he couldn't tell if Roman was enjoying it or not but by then it was too late. He was becoming disoriented and the next thing he knew, he was falling and then there was the cold splash of water.

He came up sputtering water and was so embarrassed. He had wanted to make a beautiful memory that they could share forever and he had messed it all up. He felt tears gathering at the corner of his eyes and he looked up to see Roman's concerned face peering over the dock. Roman reached his arms out and pulled him out of the water easily. They sat in the middle of the dock with Roman draping his jacket over Seth's wet shoulders and pulling him into his strong arms.

"I'm sorry," he choked out. "I had this all planned out for weeks and all I did was make a fool out of myself."

"No." Roman said, stroking his back. "I liked it until you fell. You're my sweet, adorable boy."

He dried his tears and looked at his boyfriend's sincere face. "Will you go to the prom with me?"

Roman smiled so sweetly. "Of course babe, I'll go anywhere with you."

*Just a short something I wrote while trying to set up my new laptop. I can't find a program that I like writing on so I have to edit it by emailing it to my desktop so that I can use a spell check and format it.
