Hailey Potter was sitting on a desolate windowsill somewhere in Hogwarts. There is the faint, indistinct sound of her fellow students having fun in the background. The sound of music is coming from the Great Hall. Today was the yearly winter ball, Hailey had decided to go alone as Hermione and Ron were going together, she didn't want to be the third-wheel, she had ended up being a third-wheel anyway and a lonely duckling. Upon entering the Great Hall she had seen all the couples having fun. She had felt so disappointed in herself, if only she had accepted one of the offers she got from the many boys and girls who asked.

After spending half an hour in the suffocating hoard of couples, she decided that it wasn't worth it. After locating Ron and Hermione, and seeing they were otherwise occupied, she decided to leave the Great Hall, and find a spot to wallow in her self pity. Thus she had found the windowsill she was now seated on.

She was thinking about her miserable love life, when she heard footsteps. Looking up she saw Tom Riddle approaching. He was a bit arrogant, but he had a right to be, so she didn't mind all that much. They had a friendly rivalry going on. Hailey honestly didn't know why anymore, but the rivalry was there as it had been since the start of their schooling at Hogwarts.

"Potter, what are you doing here? Let me guess, you got ditched."

"Actually, Riddle, I didn't go with anyone."

"Ooooo, Hailey Potter, Gryffindor Princess, couldn't find a date."

"I have standards, Riddle. What happened to your date, were you, Tom Riddle, Slytherin Prince, ditched by a girl."

"As a matter of fact, I was the one doing the ditching."

"Well that's harsh."

"Says the girl with standards so high that not a single boy in Hogwarts is good enough."

At some point during their talk, Hailey has moved to make room on the windowsill for Tom to sit next to her. They sit facing each other, each leaning against one side of the window.

"Of course there are boys in Hogwarts that meet my standards. They just didn't ask me, thus I was left with a choice of guys who definitely did not meet my standards."

"Who might be those that meet your standards?"

"Why would I tell you Riddle?"

"Because the sight of you sitting here alone and not joining the festivities is pathetic. As such it is my duty to help the fair lady out and get her a date that meets her standards. How about that Lady Potter?"

"Well, Lord Riddle, I believe one of the men who meets my standards is sitting right in front of me."

At that moment the song that was playing in the Great Hall finishes and a waltz starts. Tom gets up from his seat and stands in front of Hailey with his hand held out towards her.

"In that case, may I have this dance my lady?"

Hailey places her hand in Toms and allows herself to be pulled up into a standing position.

"I believe you may."

Tom leads Hailey through a beautiful waltz, she can feel his breath on her neck.

"Tom?"

"Hmm"

"You are the only person in this school that meets my standards."

"How so?"

"My standards; they must be Tom Riddle."

"As for me they must be Hailey Potter."

"I love you."

"I love you too."

"Happy first anniversary, Tom"

"Happy first anniversary, darling"
