Chapter 1 Putting Things in Motion

Professor McGonagall,
I am sorry to disturb you in what is most likely one of your busiest parts of the summer, but I was wondering if it would be at all possible to arrange a meeting with you before summer's end. Some things have come up that require a conversation that would be best to take place before the school term resumes. If you could find time to meet with me and possibly my mother, it would be most appreciated.

I reread my multiple times to make sure it is correct before tying it to my owl Styx. Styx is a black Strix owl that was technically my biological father Sirius Black's owl. Dad had gotten Styx as a 16th birthday present from Aunt Dorea and Uncles Charlus (AKA the Potters) after he had run away from the psychotic witch who had given birth to him. He had moved in with Uncle James's family which resulted in a tentative friendship with aunt Lily. The friendship blossomed when Aunt Lily's family history came to light. Dad had met my mom through Aunt Lily shortly after leaving home. My mum, Jane was Aunt Lily's beta within the pack and at the time was sixteen with her first pup on the way. She and Daniel, my half-brother's dad, were friends who had gotten drunk together and Eric was the result. Dan was Aunt Lily's human brother and he and his sister Petunia were adopted by the Evens when he was two and Petunia was six. Dan and mom weren't really a couple and they agreed that when the pup arrived that they would co-parent as friends only. Both were welcome to move on with their lives and find someone to love. Mum and Dad had a connection from the moment they met but neither was willing to try to see if that connection could become anything. They didn't even attempt to become friends until after the death of her alphas, Lily's parents.
The Evens were what was known as wolf bloods often confused with werewolves but actually quite different. Wolfblood's also change on the full moon but unlike werewolves they maintain their own mind and can change at will outside of the full moon. They also have more access to the heightened senses that come from there animal sides and take the appearance of actual wolves instead of the beastly halfling form that werewolves take. The Evens were the alphas of the Crawley wolves which was a mixed pack of wild and tame wolf bloods. Andrew Evens led the tame wolves which lived relatively normal lives in the heart of town, only taking off a break on full and no moon days, while his brother Brian led the wilds in the woods just outside of town in a small wooded area. The Evens epitomized the ideal tame were they were able to fit into the human world perfectly without giving any clues that they weren't normal but did not completely lose the wild side and instinct. The tames even spent parts of the year with the wilds for the younglings to learn the old ways. The only abnormality, besides Lily being a witch, was the fact that Lily had a degenerative hearing disorder where she was almost completely deaf, when not in wolf form, by the time that she was sixteen.
When James, Dad and Remus found out about Aunt Lily's family history shortly before her 17th birthday as she was preparing to take over as head of the tames. Dad revealed that there were wolf bloods in his family line about six generations back and that the gene was mostly dormant now and outside of the family that fact was pretty much erased within the wizarding world. It was also why he maintained so many canine-like qualities outside of his grim like Animagus form. The result of this reveal was that it cemented Lily and Dad's friendship and Lily introduced my parents. Once my parents became friends they became almost as close as Uncle James and Dad. They maintained just a friendship until Lily and James's wedding where they both got into a little too much fire-whiskey. After they awoke the next morning, they decided to give an actual relationship a chance and 9 months later, on September 3, 1980, I was born. They got engaged about 3 months after I was born but were still not married at the time of my father's incarceration.
Because my parents were not married, except for a few, my existence was kept secret from the wizarding world. I was born a female version of my father with the black curly hair, slate grey eyes, and a pale olive complexion. I also inherited the wolf blood traits of heightened senses and when I am upset my eyes change to wolf eyes though closer resembling in color my natural human eyes then the pack's wolf eyes. But I also inherited my father's magic and the black gift of being a metamorphmagus allowing to change my appearance at will. As a child, I looked much like a female version of my father all the time but when I was seven, I learned the circumstances of my father leaving us and us moving in with Dan. After discovering the truth, I started to make myself look more like a female version of Eric and Dan. Neither of my mum's children actually looks much like her only taking her tall stature. Mum has straight blonde hair with ivory skin, bright red lips and a honey-colored eye. Dan, Eric and my normal "mask" is relatively plain with bushy brown hair, creamy skin sprinkled with freckles and chestnut brown eyes. I very rarely kept my natural appearance but yesterday was my first wolf's moon, so I was too drained today to change. It was a good thing that I was home alone today as it upset mum when I looked like my dad.
I am actually surprised that I was alone at all right now. Ever since dad brome out of jail mum has been super territorial and overprotective. literally someone has been with me at all times with exception of today. I think she left me alone because she thought I would be too drained to do anything reckless although I think she would consider sending that letter to McGonagall as reckless. She also couldn't get out of the monthly meeting with the current leader of the wilds Alric. Alric is nothing like Brian. He believes that both humans and tames should be eliminated and the wilds should rule supreme but considering he lost his first heir and his second-born holds more influence then he keeps him from actually attempting this. But mum still meets with him regularly to keep him in line and to make sure that the wilds don't starve or give themselves away.
Dan and Eric are at Eric's footy practice and then are planning on running errands afterward. Eric finished the last of the meat this morning and all of us wolves are craving meat a little more than usual due to the time of the month. Dan has always been good about understanding the effects of the wolf DNA on us, probably because he was raised by wolf bloods and despite not being one grew up learning their customs. He really did us a favor when after Dad's arrest he stepped up and married mum to give her a safety net and it allowed for him to adopt me and use his birth name, Granger. When Dan adopted me, my mom changed all my public records to say Hermione Jean Granger but never actually legally changed my name. Their marriage was really just a marriage of convenience and they had an understanding that if one of them ever wanted to leave they had the divorce papers drawn up and updated once a year to keep them legitimate. Mum would most likely never be the one who filed because she was still hung up on Dad. Eric and I both knew that their marriage wasn't one of love and that didn't discourage either of us from wanting to find our true mate. Eric had already found his in a wild named Brynn who was one of Alric's betas. It wasn't likely that I would find mine for the next couple of years. Things might change with Dad being lose but no matter what McGonagall needed to be warned.
I also had some concerns about Harry that I wanted to address. Such as the fact that there was a potential that he could be losing his hearing and probably already was. He was showing some behavioral traits that Mum said Lily had due to her Meniere's disease. Petunia would have had to have Harry learning British Sign Language at a young age considering it would have been in his file or diagnosed at a relatively young age, most likely when he received his first physical for primary school. which would explain the twitching he does with his hands which Mum says that Lily also did when she was trying not to sign. Mum also explained that no one at Hogwarts had known about Lily's hearing with the exception of a wizard who had grown up in the area, mum didn't remember his name. She got away with doing this by using her magic to allow her to hear even if it was muted it was enough to get her by. The downside was that it made her magically drained and a lot more tired than normal. Harry exhibits symptoms of the same magically exhaustion despite his enormous magical core and on some days when he hasn't had a break, he also gets very snippy. There is also the fact that before the end of the school year he will have his first wolf's moon and if Dan is right Petunia would not have prepared him for it all.
Petunia had pretty much cut all ties with the Evans when she turned eighteen including Dan. No one even knew where she and her husband had moved to after their marriage and the only way Lily was actually able to notify her of their parents' deaths was by owl because of the magic used in owl post. When Harry had shown up at school I was so excited to finally get to meet him but me being me that resulted in some tension and after I discovered that he didn't know anything about Aunt Lily and Uncle James I didn't know how to broach the topic. I eventually told Mum and Dan about what was going on with Harry and where he was placed after the death of his parents. Mum had immediately contacted the lawyers and was currently working with them to get custody of Harry as she was married to Lily's brother and had been listed in the Potters' wills, which the lawyer discovered was sealed within 24 hours of the Potters' deaths, as second in line to take him after Sirius and Dan was third in line. Aunt Lily wanted to keep Harry with someone who could give him a connection to the pack as he was next in line to be alpha when he was of age. The lawyer thought Mum had a good case and that things should be completely resolved by the time summer arrived and then Harry would be safe where he could learn his family history and there was the issue that they were going through the muggle court and there was always the risk that whoever sealed the Potter's will in the wizarding world would get involved.
McGonagall needed to know all of these things especially since the lawyer was certain that the Dursley's weren't fighting or informing Harry of the case. Harry was likely to find out the truth about that at Christmas and then this summer would be a full truth reveal of everything if I didn't end up telling him before then. If McGonagall knows then at least I will have some support when it all finally comes to light.
