Sounds like broken records playing over
This is not a sweet story. It's not an easy read. it doesn't necessarily have a happy ending. Draco is not necessarily a good bloke, he doesn't necessarily treat me right and he certainly doesn't do things like they do it in the movies. Our love is not a romantic comedy. it's not really a romance movie at all. If it was a movie it would probably be one of those self-development movies, and it would be deep and it would end with me getting over him. Certainly not with us "finally" getting together. We couldn't ever have a healthy relationship again. But that doesn't mean we can get over it.
But this is my reality. and it never ends.
Our first week back at Hogwarts was normal and dreary. Draco apologised casually for the way he acted in Greece, mainly blaming alcohol. I didn't really listen.
For the next few evenings we were swallowed up in school work, after all our NEWTs were coming up.
On Friday evening there was a Quidditch match. I went of course, with the girls. Always had to support Slytherin even if the Seeker was a dickhead.
At dinner on Saturday in the Great Hall Draco sent me a note. It landed on my plate, right on top of my fish and chips. "I'm sorry. -D" it said. I crumbled it and left it on the table for the House Elves to clear up.
When I woke up Sunday morning, the girls were whispering at the door in the dormitory.
"What's up?" I asked sleepily. They turned to me, startled.
"Well," said Aurelia, and reluctantly held out a boquet of flowers. "Draco dropped these off for you."
I stared at the bouqet of red roses in disbelief. Daphne tutted and went back to her bed. Aurelia brought the roses to my bed and I sat up, awakening quickly.
"Draco was here?" I asked in confusion.
"Super weird isn't it?"
That afternoon we were studying in the dark common room by the fire when Draco came in through the whole in the wall in his Quidditch gear. I looked up but he didn't catch my eye and so I turned back to my book and he went off to the showers.
"You know," Theo mumbled to me, he was next to me in the sofa, "He's been saying how he was taking the piss too much in Greece and that he feels bad."
I looked up slowly. "Is that so?"
"Yeah," Theo went on. "He wants to stop fighting and just get on. He didn't mean anything bad and he doesn't want to be enemies."
"He said that?" I asked sceptically.
Theo nodded.
"He just wants to be friends, no funny business, he'll stop being a dick?"
"Yes."
"Is that why he bought me flowers?"
Theodore turned to look at me, surprised. "He bought you flowers?"
"Yeah this morning."
"I didn't know that. But you should speak to him. It would be so much easier for all of us if you got along."
I looked at him sceptically.
"I know everything he's done to you, right, but," Theo said to me, "he's a good bloke at heart and you used to be like best friends."
"Yeah I know," I said.
"He has said he will always love you," Theo said then. "And that the cheating thing got blown up. He only kissed two girls. He didn't shag anyone. People were always making up rumours about him to sabotage with you. Girls were jealous."
I was taken aback at this, and couldn't think of a response.
"And I get it that it's difficult seeing your ex boyfriend as just friends," he went on.
"No it's not that.. it's that he's a proper dick sometimes, I hate his mood swings," I said.
"Yeah well you like him despite that though," Theo said.
"I like him?" I said surprised.
"No you like him as a person, yous two have fun together, you used to be good friends so it shouldn't be a problem right?"
"I suppose," I said.
Draco came back from the showers with Crabbe and Goyle. They were now in their normal clothes, no Quidditch kit or school uniform.
"Can I talk to you?" he said at once. I didn't answer but got up slowly and we walked away towards one of the quiet corners near a window.
At first he just looked at me for a while and I looked back, not wanting to say anything.
"You didn't answer my note" he said, not looking at me.
I rolled my eyes. "Why would I answer that?"
"Whatever," Draco said then, changing the subject. "I just wanted to clear the air."
"Consider it cleared," I said shortly, not looking at him.
"Well and I wanted to say sorry."
I turned slowly to look at him then. He was looking at me. I looked away and didn't answer. There was a silence.
Then Draco said: "I don't really get what the problem is."
"You don't get what the problem is?" I said, my voice rising. Blaise looked over to where we stood but I didn't care. "Draco you're such a dick" I said.
Draco chuckled. "All right! Well I was sort of the reason you and your boy broke up, and-"
"Sort of?" I said
Draco laughed, "Yeah I was but-"
"And all the things you said in Greece as well"
"What?" he said. It irritated me.
"You're horrible..." I said.
"Hang on, you said horrible things to me just before Greece."
"Yeah but it was all true!" I said. He just looked at me.
"What?" I said. Then he started smiling.
And I cursed myself for starting smiling as well. He gave me a puppy-look, pouting: "I'm sorry."
He started grinning. "You know I dont want to see you sad."
I cursed myself for not being able to refrain from smiling.
