Draco Malfoy was beyond pissed. He was incandescent with rage. "Why the fuck would they use Nesting Dragons?! And for the first Task!? What fucking insanity is coming next?"
Luna Lovegood crossed her legs at the ankles. She looked slightly troubled, as she said firmly, "Dragons command respect in the Wizarding World. They're also big and scaly, which leads to a fear response in humans. Rather like snakes. Snakes that can eat you."
Draco's voice had gotten soft, "If my father found out I was in a tournament like this... he woulda killed a guy. Hell, he might have destroyed the fucking Goblet of Fire to get me out of it."
Luna said softly and clearly, "Potter doesn't have a father. Or a mother. You know this."
"Is there any way we can get Potty kicked out of the Tourny?" Draco asked, smirking.
"Not without him losing his magic." Luna said.
"Brooms worked fine for the first task, but... the others will be worse. More dangerous."
"There's only three this time." Luna said.
Draco cracked, his laughter sounding a tad deranged, "Thank goodness for small favors." Shaking his head, he said firmly, "I don't think he'll make it."
"Granger will see him through. She always does." Luna said. "When your father loosed a basilisk in the school..."
"A basilisk?" Draco said, his eyes going pure black. "That's what it was! Why didn't anyone figure..." His delighted eyes met Luna's, "Granger did, didn't she?"
Luna nodded.
"Wait, my father?" Draco's fists clenched. "What the fuck was he doing with a Basilisk. That's worse than Hagrid and Dragons! And Hagrid had the Merlin-given sense to keep it OUT of the SCHOOL!"
"I don't think he meant to do it, honestly." Luna said. "The Gryffindors think otherwise, but what would you expect when Ron Weasley has a say."
"He never could keep his temper," Draco Malfoy said.
"You can't confront your father," Luna said firmly.
"I know! And yet- I'm not sure if I can NOT confront him." Draco said, starting to pace.
"Do what you must, not what you think you need." Luna said coldly.
"I know," Draco said, his walls coming up as he froze the need to confront his father under an ever-growing pile of ice.
[a/n: Draco still doesn't like Potter. But, I mean, this is ridiculous. Dragons! Leave a review.]
