It had been nearly two weeks, and Luna Lovegood was about to put all these children to the Final Test. She'd prepared a good farmer's breakfast, full of bacon and eggs and corncakes. "Attention, please!" she rapped, and Malfoy was the first to come to attention, his look more curious than attentive. "Today, we're going to see how much you've learned. This will be our Harvest Time."
"But, it's June!"
"Yes, so it's strawberries," Luna said with a smile, "Miles of strawberries. Unlike normal farmhands, you may eat what you pick. But we've got to get it all, and done before the cock's crow."
Draco Malfoy frowned at that - she was saying the next morning? But... tonight was a full moon. The witch meant to have them working their bones off!
Nobody else realized it then, and they had hordes of complaints before the end. But for that precious moment, everyone else grinned with excitement about picking strawberries.
Picking strawberries is backbreaking work, as Draco Malfoy was soon to find out (his research had only extended to Normal Crops, not flipperty things like strawberries.). He wasn't the only one - none of the Muggleborn had known.
By midday, everyone except Luna slumped to the ground in the shade.
Draco knew that they weren't stopping until daybreak, so he concentrated on reenergizing his limbs. He wish he'd brought some Pepper-Up, the younger children in particular needed it.
At cock's crow, everyone was sagging, and Luna brought out the Pepper-Up. With a soft smile, she turned to Draco and said, "They're all yours."
Draco straightened, "You've done well learning what you were. Now I am going to teach you what you will become."
"And what's that?" Dennis asked.
"You will be the envy of the Purebloods, with grace and manners and dignity good enough that all of you can and shall pass for the most refined of families." Draco Malfoy said.
"Can we do that after we get some sleep?" That young girl with the braids asked.
"No. Sleep is for the weak. You shall be fine, and you will keep your fellows awake."
The girl looked bedraggled, but nodded firmly.
It was good to have help.
The first lesson was how to walk, which was good, because if it had been teatime, Draco thought they'd have lost several teacups to sudden blackouts from the littlest.
[a/n: Luna's crazy. Draco's generally sane. Strawberries are the worst crop. Leave a review?]
