SLY VOICE-OVER
The five of us ran back to the van, and Murray got us out of there. (The tires screech and the van races off, leaving clouds of dust as lava follows.) He had to drive like he was in Demolition Derby again to get us out in one piece. (inside the van, Bentley braces himself with all his mechanical arms, Sly and Carmelita cling to the backs of the seats, and Penelope bounces out the back door. She's seized by the grapple cam and yanked back inside.)
All these months, we've been playing thieves and robbers. All these trips, going back in time. All because one cop couldn't let anything illegal go unpunished. (Sly lets go of the seat and stumbles over to Carmelita, clinging to the seat she's hanging on to—and hugging her in the process.) It was pathetic. Still, he's gone for good. (They drive past the compound, lava destroying everything.) As is everything he made. The only time machine left is Bentley's. Now no one can go back and harm my family.
(The van is parked somewhere full of woods. The five of them camp, roasting hot dogs and marshmallows. Penelope hangs back, looking awkward. Sly creeps up behind Carmelita, who is looking at a picture of Dr. Foxworthy in her wallet. She tosses it into the fire.) I think Carmelita took it harder than she let on. But she'll be okay. I'll make sure of it.
We'll get back to civilization tomorrow. We'll give our reports, and then I'm requesting a month off for both of us. I need to tell her just how lucky I am that it was her that's been chasing me all these years.
After all, not every cop knows the difference between right and law.
