"There are quite a few more cars in our driveway than there should be," Erin said, giving him a little frown. "Did you let anyone else know about what we were doing today?"
"No, I made certain to ask Aaron in person so that prying eyes wouldn't intercept any emails. I know Penelope means well, but when she suspects something is up, she will sometimes do things that are a little less than ethical to make certain we're all okay."
Erin nodded slowly as he parked in the garage. "She is a dear, but that is going to get her in the same sort of trouble that landed her at the FBI in the first place." Dave chuckled as they got out of the car, and as they went to the garage door, it opened slowly, revealing Harriet and Helena. "What are you doing here?"
"Penelope told us a little story. It seems that you and Dave decided to get hitched today, and couldn't be troubled to tell any of us?" There was a slightly accusatory tone to her voice, though she was smiling at them.
"We didn't want to make a fuss, it's not like this is our first marriages, after all."
"True, but if she hadn't found out about it, we would never have been able to celebrate today with you!"
Erin threw him a slightly panicked look and he shrugged. "That's nice, but who is we?" he asked as they went into the house. He thought he could hear the faint sound of voices coming from somewhere inside, but he couldn't be certain. Harriet smiled a little as she waggled her finger at them, and he knew that the only answer they would receive would be from their own eyes. Letting out a small sigh, he took hold of Erin's hand, threading their fingers together as they followed their daughter through the house and out into the backyard.
Aaron and Alex were already out on the patio, knowing smirks on their faces as they looked on with shock at the way the backyard had been decorated for them. "Penelope is very good at finding out what she shouldn't, and decided that if she wasn't invited to the wedding, she could at least throw an amazing party for the two of you," Aaron said as he stepped forward and clapped Dave on the back. "The food is almost here, since the ceremony took a little shorter than she had planned on, so why don't we find our seats."
He nodded dazedly, bringing Erin over to the tables and taking the places of honor, with Alex and Aaron on their other sides. Instantly, a young man was pouring them glasses of nonalcoholic champagne, and he picked up his glass and clinked it with Erin before taking a sip. "This is too kind," he said as the others began to take their seats, and Penelope shrugged a little. "Really, Kitten, we didn't mean to slight you, we just wanted to have a lowkey event."
"I get it, you've had so much attention on you recently, that a private ceremony makes sense. I just wanted to celebrate you two in some capacity." She smiled at them sweetly. "And you're not so secretive, really. Erin's been wearing your mother's ring for a while now, and then when you, Hotch, and Blake suddenly had to be home and not at work on the same Friday? Well, that just told me something was up. And before you think that I snooped into personal details, you all forgot that the rotas are always public knowledge for us."
Dave groaned as he nodded. "That is the one thing I totally forgot about."
She giggled and shrugged once more. "And that made it so much easier to plan this little shindig. There's nothing too over the top, but I wanted you two to have a nice meal and some dancing before you and Erin head out on your honeymoon."
"We don't have anything planned…" Erin started, looking up at him in confusion. He shook his head before looking back at Penelope, whose smile had only grown in the last few seconds. "Penny, what did you do?"
"Two of my favorite people needed some time out of the country. And your agent for your writing helped me arrange a European vacation, starting in Scotland, before heading to England and then France. It will only be for two weeks, and you'll have to do three book signings, but you'll have plenty of time to explore some of the major cities. And yes, I know that that might be a little too much meddling, but I had to do something."
Looking down at Erin, he saw that she was smiling happily through her tears, and he knew that he couldn't deny that Penelope had indeed given them a great gift. "So what you're saying is that I'm going to have a working honeymoon?" he teased, watching Penelope blush a little as she nodded. "I suppose that I will suffer through three book signings if we can have a good time in Europe."
"I was so hoping you'd say that, and that you wouldn't be upset with me for this little bit of micromanagement."
"This is a beautiful gift, Penelope. Thank you so much." Erin got up out of her seat and hurried over to Penelope's side, hugging her tightly before kissing the top of her head. "I wish that we could take all of you, but I will make certain to take a lot of pictures and send lots of emails home."
Erin returned to his side as a line of people came into the backyard, carrying covered plates of food, placing them down in front of each person. The scent that wafted up as the covers were removed had him salivating, and he wondered which catering company Penelope had gone with. It seemed like she had made certain to go with Italian food, and he dug in with relish, only for their eating to be interrupted by Alex clinking her fork on her glass, giving him a deep smirk.
"I think that's our cue to kiss," Erin said as she dabbed at the corners of her mouth with her napkin. Nodding, he leaned over and gave her a quick peck before they started trying to eat again. This time, it was Hotch who tapped his glass, and Dave narrowed his eyes at his best friend before kissing Erin a little deeper, knowing that was probably what they wanted to see. Erin giggled against his lips before running her tongue along the seam of his lips.
"If you tease me like that, things are going to get a lot steamier than I think we want our children to see," he murmured in her ear, and Erin nodded before nuzzling her nose against his cheek. "I think that we should probably get something really nice for Penelope on our trip, since she went to the trouble to arrange all this for us."
"I think that you're right," she replied as she picked up her fork once more. Dave gave her a wide smile as he looked at his wife, his eyes full of love for her and their family that they were going to grow and nurture from here on out.
