Sophie slumped outside of the door. She knew it was her fault, but she wanted to be there for Fitz. They both needed each other right now. Sophie heard footsteps in the hallway and tried to wipe the tears from her cheeks. The tears kept coming, so she resigned to huddling into a tight ball.
"Foster?" Sophie heard Keefe ask in surprise. "You ok?" Sophie stayed huddled, silent. She felt Keefe sit next to her, and she leaned against him. Keefe picked her up and brought her to an empty guest room. He set her down on the bed and started to walk out the door.
"Keefe?" Sophie whispered, tear tracks on her face. Keefe turned around and looked at her. "Will you stay with me for a little while?"
"Of course Foster." Keefe scooted her over, and sat next to her on the bed, stroking her hair. "It's going to be ok," Keefe whispered. "Everything is going to be ok." The last thing that Sophie saw before she fell asleep was Keefe's eyes looking down at her.
By the time Sophie woke up, Keefe was gone.
Fitz stalked into the guest room and yanked the curtains open.
"What did you do?" Fitz snarled. "I know you did something, you need to take care of Biana."
"I don't need to take care of Biana, she's my age," Sophie replied. "We got separated, and Biana told me she could handle herself. I heard a scream, and I raced to the top of the tower where we were looking for Lady Gisela. She had a message for us. By the time I got there, all I saw was Biana being dragged away."
