Overwatch: The Samurai

Chapter Thirteen: A New Dawn for Heroes

In an unknown location, Doomfist sat inside a board room at the head of the table, wearing a business suit, along with several others present at the table; Reaper, Sanjay Korpal, and Maximillien were present, as a Talon operative gave his report.

"That will be all, soldier." Doomfist declared. "You are dismissed."

With a bow, the Talon soldier left, leaving the council members to discuss what occurred.

"So, Sundowner is dead." Sanjay remarked with a slight chuckle. "I had a feeling it was gonna happen."

"He was doomed from the start." Reaper said coldly. "He was in over his head and talked a big game, but in the end, he was full of hot air."

"A shame, really." Maximillien chimed in. "His Destructive Winds would have been very useful in our various missions across the globe."

"It doesn't matter." Reaper growled. "He was never going to get a spot in the inner council anyway."

"Reaper is correct." Doomfist nodded as he leaned back in his seat. "Sundowner would've have been useful with his mercenary band as extra muscle for Talon, but nothing more. Soon, he would have gotten greedy and start demanding more."

"Still wouldn't mind the extra muscle." Sanjay mumbled.

"So, what happens now?" Maximillien asked.

"For now, we proceed with our operations and keep an eye on Neo Overwatch." Doomfist declared. "For now, they will be spending time recovering, but soon they will become a threat, one we must eliminate."

"And your agent?" Reaper inquired.

"They will do their part; leading them right into our hands," Doomfist answered. "Especially if they wish to be acknowledged." He then stood up. "Soon, there will be nothing to stop our growing power."

Despite the death of Sundowner and the fall of the Destructive Winds, Talon seems unfazed by the loss of the extra muscle, as they fully intend to continue their dastardly plots.

Back at the underground Overwatch base, the agents and soldiers were recovering from the attack, although they did suffer some losses of good soldiers during the fight. Those that weren't too badly injured were doing their best to help with cleaning up the mess and rebuilding parts of the base.

In one of the rooms, Jet, who had bandages around his torso and arms, sat on the bed, gazing at the sword that given to him by the friend he once thought was dead nine years ago. The friend that he took on as his student in hopes that she may take over his position as Legacy's enforcer. And after all this time, she was alive.

"After all this time, she was alive." Jet said, almost to himself.

"Hiya!"

He looked up to see Tracer enter the room with a smile plastered on her face despite her arm being in a sling.

"You seem happier than usual." Jet remarked.

"I'm just glad that we won the battle." Tracer declared. "That, and I'm glad that we made it through this!"

"Most of us." Jet frowned. "We lost many good men in the base's defense."

"I know it sucks, but we gotta keep moving forward; for their sake." Tracer said, before frowning. "But there's something else we need to talk about."

Gesturing her boyfriend to follow, Tracer led Jet down the hall before coming upon another room. Looking through the window, they saw Emily sleeping in a medical bed, an oxygen mask over her face.

"After all this time, I thought she was dead." Tracer grimly spoke. "Never did I think that Talon would go so far as to try and turn her into a weapon against us."

"And here I was thinking that Talon couldn't sink any lower." Jet shooked his head, before looking to Tracer with a frown. "But what does that mean for us…?"

Tracer looked at Jet with a confused look, before smiling.

"Don't worry your handsome head about it!" She said happily. "After the time we spent together for the last nine years, I'm glad we made this work!"

As Jet nodded, the two leaned in and kissed passionately for a few seconds, before parting the kiss. Then heading down the halls, they see Adrianne talking with one of the soldiers.

"Hey, isn't that Adrianne?" Tracer asked. "What's she doing here?"

"Now that you mention it, she wasn't present during the base defense." Jet mused. "Then again, considering that she's an ace detective, it's understandable that she'd be busy."

After the soldier left, the couple approached the detective.

"Hey, Adrianne!" Jet called.

"Oh, hello, Mister Lightning." Adrianne turned to him with a smile. "I was hoping to run into you."

"What brings you here?" Tracer asked.

"I heard that Overwatch was attacked, while I was over in Japan on official business," Adrianne explained. "When I heard of the attack, I came running as fast as I could, but by the time I arrived, the battle was already over, and the Destructive Winds have already made their retreat." She then gave a guilty frown, as a stretcher carrying a soldier's corpse passed by. "I'm sorry for not arriving sooner."

"It's not your fault, you were busy." Jet assured. "Though we did take some losses, we're still gonna take the fight to Talon."

"That's another thing I wish to discuss with you," Adrianne said with a serious look. "I wish to join Overwatch. With my detective skills, I believe that I can be a valuable asset to the team's ranks if you would have me!"

"Of course we'd like to have you on the team!" Tracer beamed. "You'd make a great addition!"

"I agree with Tracer." Jet nodded. "Your skills will help us greatly in our fight against Talon."

"I'm glad you would think so." Adrianne smiled before bowing. "I look forward to working with you."

They were then approached by Jack and Ana.

"Now that we've dealt with the Destructive Winds, we need to let the world know that we're back." Jack declared.

"Let me guess; you want me to give another speech?" Jet said with a raised brow.

"Worldwide," Ana added. "You must give a speech worldwide."

Jet looked at them with eyes wide open, unsure if he heard them correctly.

"As I said, this will serve as a message to the world that Overwatch is officially back," Jack said. "And the people need to hear these words coming from the new leader's mouth."

"You did well with your first speech, Jet." Ana reminded the samurai. "Now you must give hope to the entire world."

"I can help you come up with the right words if you'd like." Adrianne offered with a smile. "I've helped several public speakers with their speeches in the past."

There was a moment of silence, then they almost busted out laughing at Jet's next words.

"I'm gonna need to mentally prepare myself."

A few days later, the Overwatch agents had the auditorium set up for the speech, while Winston and Tracer outside the dressing room.

"What's takin' him so long?" Tracer asked impatiently.

"This is Jet's first time wearing any formal attire, Lena," Winston said. "Don't worry; he'll be ready."

As if on cue, they see Jet stepping out of the dressing room, wearing a black and white tuxedo, though the bandage on his cheek was still visible.

"Winston, must I really wear this?" Jet whined, straightening his tie once again. "I feel like a clown in a monkey suit."

"Excuse me?" Winston frowned, taking offense to that comment.

"Come on, Jet, you look great!" Tracer assured him. "Besides, it makes you look professional and even more handsome!"

Jet couldn't help but blush at her words.

"Well, with attire and everything out of the way, it's time to get the speech underway." Adrianne declared as she approached. "Remember, Jet; all eyes will be on you."

Nodding with a sigh, Jet walked with his comrades and girlfriend down the halls before reaching the auditorium, where some of the soldiers and agents were seated, and several cameras lined the stage, making jet even more nervous.

"Don't worry, Alexio," Tracer assured, referring to Jet by the name chosen for her boyfriend and giving his hand a firm squeeze. "You can do this, love."

Encouraged by the words of his girlfriend, Jet took in a breath and released it, Jet stepped onto the stage before the podium, the hundreds of soldiers and some of the agents present giving him their undivided attention, and through the cameras, hundreds of millions.

Although he was terrified, Jet took a nervous swallow and mentally prepared himself.

"We're going live!" A member of the camera crew declared. "In three, two, one…!"

The broadcast began, across every country in the world, as Jet released bated breath and began.

"Citizens from around the world," He declared. "I am called Jet Lightning, leader of the reformed Overwatch, or now called Neo Overwatch." Taking a moment, he went on. "Recently, we were attacked by the Winds of Destruction. Although we were able to come out victorious, we suffered many casualties." With another moment, he continued. "I would like to take a moment to thank each and every one of you for the gratitude you've shown, the support you gave and the criticism you've given us. Without your support, we may not have risen from the ashes to stop Talon."

Taking a moment to take in a breath, he then continued.

"And if not for the people I met on this journey, I wouldn't be standing before you now." Jet declared. "Across the world, I met many brave men and women, humans and omnics, all willing to fight Talon to the bitter end, to ensure that all of Earth knows peace. Some of these people were more than happy to lend a hand." The screen projection behind him lit up, as some of the veterans of Overwatch appeared on the screen. "Some of the veterans I met looked death in the eyes and told they could die, and you know what they said? They spat in its face and dared it to bring it on! That's how fearless they are!"

Jack, Ana, Zarya, Pharah, Lena and McCree smiled at this. Reinhardt gave a jolly laugh while Brigitte smiled.

"The engineers I met were creative as well!" Jet went on, as the screen switched to some of the engineers. "Whenever they were met with what seemed like impossible odds, they'd always laugh and proceed to take down the giant! That's how creative they are!"

Torbjorn laughed, Satya smiled, while Efi gave a warm smile.

"Even the outcasts were determined enough to step in and give a hand!" Jet went on, as the screen switched to the 'outcasts'. "Although they look like common crooks, whether it is for money, revenge, or even because they want to simply help out, they certainly know how to pack one HELL of a punch!"

"You know that's right!" Junkrat declared with a mad smile, while Roadhog simply grunted in approval, while Sombra smiled on. Even Sean gave a smile.

"Not to mention some of the people who were brave enough to take the fight to Talon!" Jet went on, the screen showing some of the people who were brave enough to go after Talon. "They all have the courage to take the initiative to make it clear to Talon that they won't tolerate their actions!"

Sarge nodded, Brian raised a fist in approval, Karma jumped up with glee, and Calvin and Murasa nodded with smirks. Hanzo smiled while Zenyatta and Genji nodded.

"There are also scientists and doctors who have seen Talon's evil at some point." Jet went on, the screen switched again. "Brilliant minds came together to help make the lives of others!"

Winston, Angela, Moira, and Mei smiled at this.

"And then there's me." Jet declared. "A samurai who lost the family he grew up with and wondered the world, lost and alone." He then smiled. "But I remembered the words an old friend once said to me when the recall first began; Never accept the world as it appears to be; dare to see it for what it could be."

Winston smiled warmly at that statement.

"And eventually, I found my place again, and I didn't do this alone. I had help from the fine men and women who were brave enough to take a stand, to fight for truth and freedom, who won't let Talon simply walk over people and manipulate them for their own selfish gain!" He then raised a fist. "No matter how many times Talon comes at us, no matter how many times we fall down, we will always find the strength to get back up! And no matter what happens," He then declared loudly, "HEROES NEVER DIE!"

Everyone in the room cheered loudly, and no doubt, the people around the world roared in applause.

"So let me sign off with one final question," He said, looking dead into the camera. "Are you with us?"

And with that, the broadcast ended, the people in the room cheering loudly, as his friends clapped along.

"And I mean what I said; I couldn't have made it this far without you all." Jet declared, facing the brave people in the room. "Now, it's time we get to work!"

With a renewed determination and their mission in mind, the newly reformed Neo Overwatch made it their goal to rise from the ashes and takedown Talon, once and for all.

The End…For Now.

And there's the final chapter! Finally, the story has come to an end for now! I'd like to say thanks to those of you that stuck around for the ride and enjoyed the story and gave their criticism to help me improve. Also, huge thanks to victor157, realDJFusion and Kalikedeshi for their OC's used in this story and their support. I would also like to thank Tipsy-Tose for his help and revision for this story, so basically he served as my beta reader. If you're not aware, he and I had a rocky beginning, but after some time to reflect, I talked it out with him and we're on better terms now. Unfortunately, I haven't heard from him for a while, and I hope he's okay. Still, I wish him the best and I hope to hear from him soon.

Anyways, I want to say that I do have a sequel in mind, but I want to take a break from my Overwatch story for a while so I can work on my other stories. Don't worry, I will get to work on the sequel one day, but for now, please bear with me and I hope you can wait.

Until then, thank you for reading and I hope to see you in the sequel! Be sure to review!
