"Really? Did we not just have this conversation?" Kate sighed, emphasizing her exhaustion with the whole situation in a single gust of air. Dean grinned at her from the driver's seat.

"Hey, this is pertinent to the case!" He pointed out his window toward the entrance. Kate peered around him, taking in the bright neon lights in stark contrast with the darkness pervading the scene. Hunched in the dark with a hoodie pulled over him was a young man striding with purpose toward the door. As he yanked it open and bathed in those neon lights, she connected the dots and rolled her eyes.

"Oh, of course he is. Fine, go ahead. I'll wait here and keep an eye on the door." Kate waved him off with a groan. She didn't want to be anywhere near the establishment, and she wanted that made very clear to her leering older brother. He rolled his eyes.

"Come on, it's not that bad! This actually has some pretty classy reviews, not like most of the places we've been to." The thought made her shudder and he just grinned in amusement. "Besides, if it is him, then we may need to make sure there aren't any back exits to escape through." She glared hard.

"Damn, that's a good point. Alright, let's do this."

They slunked out of the Impala together, one albeit a little more reluctantly than the other, who had a positive spring in his step. Stepping through the door, the pair were immediately assaulted by the pounding of drums and riff of a guitar threatening their ear drums, and the accompanying smell of booze and sweat clinging to the hot air around them. It dazed Kate for a moment at first, but her hunter's training allowed her to recover quickly enough to not lose sight of her brother and their target. They made their way through the crowds of men and scantily clad girls carrying beverages with Kate all too wary of her own vulnerabilities in a crowd this tight. Her trigger finger twitched briefly but she composed herself.

The two were making their way toward the back end of the club when a large gentleman dressed all in black tapped her on the arm.

"Excuse me miss, but can I see some ID?" He asked her gruffly, but not impolitely. Kate met the man's dark eyes and could have kissed him as her opportunity greeted her with closed-off, buff arms. She grinned and turned to her brother.

"Uh oh, sorry bro! I guess I'll have to wait in the car. Have fun! I'll keep an eye on things!" She smirked as he looked between her and the bouncer and rolled his eyes. Dean stepped up next to her and leaned in toward the bouncer.

"Come on, is this really necessary? She's not drinking or anything. She's with me." He flashed his ID and handed it off to the bouncer, who glanced briefly at it before shaking his head.

"Sorry sir, no minors." He retorted in no uncertain terms. The man looked at Kate and raised an eyebrow. "Besides, do you really think this is the place for her?"

Kate had no control over the chuckle that came from her as Dean frowned at the bouncer. She was touched by the concern he displayed for her delicate sensibilities, but really how was he to know the things she'd seen? However, she decided to use this to her advantage.

"It's fine, I'm just going to wait outside. You have fun, and I'll see you later." Dean rolled his eyes.

"Fine, whatever. Just keep your phone on and don't go anywhere. Hear me?" She rolled her eyes right back, giving him a mock salute.

"Yes, sir!"

"I found him." Dean announced, his eyes never roaming from the dancer before him.

"Good, don't take your eyes off him." He casually arched his head around the shapely legs of the girl and glanced briefly at the man across from him. The lecherous look in his eyes and the tall beer in his hand told Dean everything he needed to know.

"Oh yeah, my eyes are glued." He answered. He could practically hear Sam's annoyance from the other end of the line. He could probably hear the music in the background, no doubt putting two-and-two together.

"Wait, just you? Where's Kate?" Dean sighed impatiently at his brother.

"She's the look out from the car. Look, don't worry about it, she's fine. I've got Kurt here, she's probably just reading a book or some other nerdy hobby she got from you."

"I don't think you understand how genetics work, dude. Just check in with her, who knows what's out there."

"Yeah, yeah. I've done this big-brother gig before. Listen Sammy, I got to let you go, I don't-" Her legs spread hypnotizingly, teasing promises he had no doubt she could keep. "I don't want to miss anything."

SWDWKWSWDWKWSWDWKWSWDWKWSWDWKWSWDWKWSWDWKWSWDWKWSWDW

Sam shook his head as the call disconnected. He knew exactly what his brother didn't want to miss. And I wonder how many STDs he wouldn't miss…

Glancing at his phone, he pondered a little bit about his current situation. Madison was certainly a beautiful woman, he couldn't deny that despite his brother's teasing. She was also smart, funny, professional, kind… And most assuredly not Jess.

Thinking of Jess brought fresh waves of pain that Sam had hoped would pass with time. He knew he would never really recover from losing her, but he had hoped that maybe he would adjust enough that the familiarity would ease him through pain like this. Right now it felt all too fresh. The sheer reality was driving through him and he felt more than a little guilty. Had there really been enough time for him to be having thoughts like this for another woman? What about Jess? The very thought of betraying the woman he'd been so ready to marry and settle with made his blood run cold in that moment. He could do a lot of horrible things in his life, and in fact had, but betraying her? That was one line he could never cross.

Sam shook his head and opened his phone, dialing a still-new number and pushing these thoughts aside as he pressed it to his ear. The ringing helped focus his mind on the here and now, avoiding the past and its darkness as much as possible.

Running her fingers through her now tangled hair, Kate stared at the door of the strip club through half-lidded eyes and a bored expression. She'd searched the car for some form of quiet entertainment, quickly realizing that her meager collection of books was in her bag at Madison's, and anything else would draw attention to herself. Given the area, she decided readily against that.

The chirping of her cell phone dragged her from her boredom.

"Hey there, Don Juan. How's it going there?" She teased. She could feel Sam rolling his eyes through the connection.

"Haha, look who's talking. Didn't think strip clubs were really your scene. Then again, we are just getting to know you…"

"Ugh, save it. How's Madison, really?"

"Madison is great! Really great, yeah. She's uh… She's been really nice, you know?" Kate couldn't help but smile a little bit at her brother.

"Yeah, I know." She answered. Eyeing the door to the club and ensuring things were still quiet inside (well, quiet in a hunting sense anyway), she adjusted the phone to her shoulder and swung her legs around to sit with her legs up on the passenger seat. "And she works in a law office? That's pretty cool."

"Right? It's so funny, I used to study law at Stanford. Never thought it would come in handy, but it's nice to be able to talk about concepts and cases with someone." Kate thought her cheeks would break off with the force of her smile. He sounded so excited, it was a nice change of pace for Sam. It got her thinking.

"Definitely! I have to tell you Sam, I will definitely not ever be studying law so make friends." She laughed.

Kate was a little surprised when she was met with silence instead of a sarcastic reply. Raising an eyebrow, she cleared her throat.

"Are you a little… distracted… over there perhaps? We can always talk later!" She teased. After a moment's hesitation, she heard his faint chuckle come through.

"Nice try, but nothing is going on! In fact, Madison just went to bed so I'm just sitting here waiting for a report from you guys."

"OH, she went to bed? All by herself? Are you sure that's safe, Sam? She may need some company, you know, in case something were to happen…"

"Very funny. As long as you two children do your job, then nothing should happen, so stay alert."

"'Children'? I will have you know that the only "child" here is our dear brother, who is enjoying this hunt about as much as you are, so really now that I think about it…" Sam's laugh interrupted her tirade.

"Alright, enough. Look just be careful out there, ok? Call if you need anything." Kate couldn't help but smile.

"I will Sam. You be careful too, use protection!"

Her only answer was a dial tone.

Aaaaand then she was bored again.

The door to the seedy club ("Not seedy, classy!" She heard Dean's voice reply in her head.) had seen no action for the past hour and a half. Even before that it was only a handful of (clearly intoxicated) gentlemen in need of something to fill the voids no doubt consuming them in their meaningless-

Wow, ok. I need to take a walk or something.

Kate stretched out her legs as much as she could in the slightly cramped Impala, relishing in the satisfying *pop* of her shoulders. The door handle was cool to the touch as she propelled herself to the night air.

It was cool out in the night air, a relief compared to the stale air recycled from her own breath in the car. She leaned back against the car door, one hand fiddling with the small, silver knife in her pocket. The club was still quiet (traffic wise) as expected, so she allowed herself a moment to let her eyes and thoughts wander.

The full moon glowing above her head was absolutely breathtaking. How could someone not admire it? The light was warm and comforting, regardless of the loud music and shouting of rowdy people in the neighborhood. Kate felt at peace with it, a smile small drifting to her face in spite of the ugly undertaking her life had drifted to. It was moments like this, moments like her last few weeks spent with her brothers, that kept her going.

They're goofy, ginormous, and ridiculous, but man I do love them.

A flicker of movement just outside the door of the club caught her senses. Snapping her head in the direction of the club, she noticed a hooded, slightly staggering figure making its way down the sidewalk. Squinting slightly in his direction, Kate was slightly relieved to see it was her target. Dean must have been on his way out too.

DWSWKWDWSWKWDWSWKWDWSWKWDWSWKWDWSWKWDWSWKWDWSWKWDWSW

"I'm telling you, it was classy! You would have seen that if you'd bothered to stay even a little bit longer." Dean argued passionately, drumming the steering wheel of his baby mindlessly. Kate rolled her eyes, a skill she was quickly perfecting the more she spent time with these boys.

"Trust me, I'd seen plenty thank you." She replied heavily. "I'm a little surprised you don't agree with the bouncer, why would I want to be in a place like that? Ugh I feel like I need a shower just from those few minutes!" She shivered.

"Well if you had stayed, you'd have seen there were showers there!"

"DEAN!" She cried in outrage. "Let me guess, were they on the stage? Did they have a rope attached for strategic waterfalls? Do you really think that's what I'm talking about, or are you just that dumb?" Dean frowned.

"Wait, so they aren't showers?" Kate sighed, dropping her head into her hands dramatically.

"Let's change the subject. Where are we now?" She glanced out the window, scoping out the highrise buildings surrounding where the car was now parked near an inconspicuous alleyway.

"Kurt's apartment. Or, his building at least. We just parked on the other side, don't want anybody recognizing my baby from our previous "investigation" here." Dean cut the engine and switched the lights off. "We need to make sure he doesn't go all Kujo on us, or anyone else tonight."

"Right. Ok, let's do this." Kate clicked her seatbelt off and pushed her way back out into the night. Her nose wrinkled at the smell of the apparently freshly-filled dumpster her brother was casually stepping towards and looking around. She inspected the dark corners of the alley, half-expecting rotting meat and half-expecting something to jump out and latch onto her face. Much to her relief, nothing of the sort was found.

After her impromptu perimeter search, she strode back to her elder brother, watching as he checked the count of the silver bullets in his gone.

The still atmosphere complete with loud, rock music pouring through the air was broken by the sound of shattering glass. Kate flinched as she instinctively brought her arm to her face, inwardly cursing before glancing up to Kurt's apartment. Her blood ran cold as she laid her eyes on the now shattered window.

"What the-" Dean muttered to himself. Before anything more could be said, the two grabbed their weapons and sprinted to the door.

Upon reaching the apartment, Dean worked it open with all of his usual finesse and tact… and by that, Kate obviously watched as he swung his leg up and kicked the door in. Guns raised, the pair cautiously made their way inside. Dean charged forward as he peered into each doorway, looking for any sign of life (or just the opposite). Kate followed close behind, nearly bumping into her brother as he paused for just a moment too long. Before she could ask what was going on, she peered around him and stifled a horrified gasp.

Kate could easily see she was gorgeous, with her long brown hair that curled just right and dark, sparkling eyes. Her pale skin seemed to glow in the sunlight pouring through the large windows, and her slim but curved and defined figure topped off the complete package…

Including newly defined canines, snarling and dripping with the blood of the mangled victim beneath their feet.

"Oh Madison…." Kate couldn't help but groan sadly. Tears came to her eyes but she quickly blinked them away. Now was not the time. They were in very real danger here with the werewolf, not to mention standing in a crime scene with the grisly body of what used to be Kurt.

Before anyone could make another sound, the werewolf (Madison, her head echoed, she has a name) leaped at them, shoving Dean into the wall behind them. He groaned in pain while Kate steadied her weapon and aimed.

"Hey!" She called for the beast's attention. I need to get her heart… "Over here!"

The werewolf (Madison!) whipped her head around at the sound of her prey calling. As soon as she spun around, Dean whipped out his silver blade and sliced her arm. As she howled in pain, he crawled to an opening, feeling for his gun. Kate ran to her other side, still trying to find a way to her vulnerable chest. Unfortunately for the hunting duo, the wolf (MADISON) recovered quickly, gnashing her teeth and turning to the window.

"Oh no you don't!" Kate cried, running towards her.

"Kate, WAIT!" Dean called after her. He stretched for his gun once again, flinching as pain radiated through his body. The beast (MADISON!) swiped her paw upward and growled, knocking Dean's head into the wall. His eyes fluttered closed, and he lost consciousness.

"Shit, Dean!" Kate eyed the werewolf staring her down, desperately wishing she could just run over and check on her brother. In her peripheral vision she could see his chest rising and falling rhythmically, so at the very least she knew he would be ok for now. Her main concern fell with stopping the werewolf (MADISON MADISON MADISON MADI-).

The wolf pounced, lunging toward the open window. Kate put no thought into her next move whatsoever, reaching only for the long hair billowing behind the beast- (Long, brown hair that shone in the light as she smiled at the trio-). As her fingers caught the threads, she gripped it tight and pulled with all her might, keeping her silver blade handy as the beast screeched in pain. It flailed in her grasp and still Kate held on, even as the two begin tipping out the broken window. The glass and the werewolf's (MADI-) claws scratched her skin, but Kate held steadfast to the creature. With one last snarl, the wolf (MA-) swiped at Kate, narrowly missing her bent throat, and was released from the hunter's grip. Without missing a beat, the monster ran at inhuman speeds, and was out of sight.

"Shit shit shit shit shit!" Kate winced in pain at her newfound cuts, but she shoved the thought aside. She knew where the beast was heading - and Sam had no idea what was coming to him. With that, Kate leaped onto the fire escape and took off under the light of the full moon. As she ran after the creature, Kate couldn't help but think that the night was somehow darker than she could ever have imagined.

Wow, so…. Yeah…. I suck at updates… But I'm alive! I'm here! And with me are hopefully some more updates? I'm finding my way back into writing now which is fun, although I'm also a teacher now and so I'm just on break this week….

Anyway, let me know what you think!
