Chapter 3
After they had finished eating, Sarah and C.J. climbed down from the table and walked into the living room, unaware of a girl in the room looking at them. She was of Japanese decent with tan skin and black hair. She wore a white long sleeve shirt and purple pants. Grinning, the girl moved at super speed and tackled C.J. to the floor.
" C.J.!" She squealed in delight.
Sarah froze in shock when she saw the girl tackling C.J. to the ground. With a growl, Sarah marched over to the stranger on top of her best friend, ready to lay down the law until she heard C.J. say.
"Aunt Hana? What are you doing here?!"
That brought Sarah up short, as she thought to herself in confusion. 'Aunt? But they don't look related, and don't you have to be a grownup to be an aunt? This girl is as old as C.J. and me!'
Now Sarah was standing next to the pair, with a frown. Before she could ask a billion questions, Kim came back to the living room from the front door and answered her son's question.
"Your Nana just dropped her off for a play date C.J."
'And then took off before I could say anything.' Kim thought to herself, rolling her eyes.
Sarah looked at Hana and then up at Kim. "Is she really… C.J.'s aunt?" She asked skeptically, "because she doesn't look like it, and she's not a grownup. She's a kid, just like us!"
Smiling at Sarah, Kim said. "Someone doesn't have to be a grownup to be an aunt or uncle. It just means that they're a brother or sister, to someone else's mommy or daddy."
"Is she your sister?" Sarah asked, still not believing that this girl was related to Kim or her son.
"No, she's C.J.'s daddy's baby sister." Kim gently explained to the young girl.
Sarah's face squinted in disbelief. "But how could she be his daddy's sister? Mr. Stoppable is a grownup and she's as old as C.J."
"No I'm not" Hana said, very annoyed. "CJ's this many years old," She then held up one hand, showing four fingers and continued speaking. "I'm this many years old." She held up her other hand next to the first, showing all five digits as if for comparison.
"But you don't look like C.J. or his daddy." Sarah argued.
Hana glowered at Sarah while C.J. looked agitated at the growing tension between the two girls.
"I'll proof she is my aunt," He shouted desperately.
Sarah and Hana looked at C.J. in surprise.
"How can you prove it," Sarah said slowly.
C.J. smiled. "Come look at this!" he said happily, leading the two of them to an end-table next to the couch.
Kim groaned, already knowing what her son was going to show them. Inside the end-table's drawer was a photo album, with a picture that Kim, to this day can't get her parents or in laws to admit to taking. And why this was her son's favorite picture of him and Hana, she would never know. She sighed.
'So much for the embarrassment being over,' Kim thought to herself, pinching her nose in exasperation.
C.J. now had the large book sitting in the floor, turned to his favorite page. He pointed at a picture at the top corner with his finger. "See! That's my mommy and daddy, that's Hana, when she was little. And that's me when I was in my mommy's tummy!"
Sarah eyed the photo. There was CJ's daddy who was laying long ways on the couch, asleep. Leaning back in his arms, was CJ's mommy, also asleep. She clearly pregnant. You could clearly see her belly, thanks to the fact that she was wearing a dark red, short sleeve shirt that matched the hockey jersey she was leaning against. Her navel was exposed, due to her swollen belly
Looking at the picture, Sarah also saw a smaller version of Hana. She was napping on Kim's outstretched legs and using her pregnant belly as a makeshift pillow. Except for her age and the outfit she was wearing, the little girl looked exactly the same as she did now. Right down to her hair cut.
Kim just closed her eyes and shook her head, while the children were gathered around the photo album.
She remembered her mother and Monique talking her into wearing that shirt, against her better judgment. The media had been giving her and Ron grief over the circumstances, or what they thought were the circumstances of CJ's birth. Her mother and her best friend had thought the best way to deal with it, would be to show that she wasn't ashamed of the pregnancy, or who the father was and that she didn't have anything to hide, which apparently meant, letting everyone see that she was obviously pregnant and to let everyone know that she was carrying Ron's child. Monique had even made her another t-shirt like the one in the photo that said. "Ron Stoppable's baby!" and had an arrow pointing down to her belly.
After looking at the picture for another moment, Sarah guiltily looked up at Hana. "I guess you are CJ's aunt. Sorry about that."
"No big." Hana said happily, and then introduced herself. "My name's Hana! What's yours?" she asked, holding her hand out to shake.
"I'm Sarah." She replied happily, taking the outstretched hand and shaking it. She did this without any fear or hesitation, thanks to C.J.
"She's my best friend!" C.J. Chimed in happily. "Glad to see the two getting along."
"That's great C.J.!" Hana squealed once again, turning to him and wrapping him in a tight hug.
Unfortunately, she didn't hear him whimper as her gave him a crushing hug and whatever ribs his best friend had spared a little while ago, started to protest loudly.
Sarah winced when she saw the discomfort in C.J.'s face. After Hana had stopped the hug Sarah moved next to C.J.
"Are you alright?"
"Sure," C.J. said with a pained smile.
Oblivious to CJ's discomfort, Hana said happily. "Maybe you two will get married one day! Just like my big brother and Aunt Kim!"
Ron and Wesley just turned the corner into the living room, just in time to hear Hana's last statement. Looking over the children, Ron saw his wife standing on the other side of the room with her eye twitching. Remembering the instant from high school involving giant cockroaches, he took this as a sign that Kim was about to have another fainting spell and quickly made his way around the kids.
Once he got to her side, he put an arm around her shoulders and took her hand with the other. He then gently led her to the couch and they sat down side by side. Still looking at Kim, Ron saw her eye continuing to twitch. Not knowing what else to do, he gently leaned Kim onto his shoulder, kissed the top of her head and started rubbing her back with one hand.
Kim remained silent, as her mind flashed back to the day C.J. was born. In her mind's eye she saw a still shot of their home movie, documenting the occasion. She was lying on an air mattress in her parents' living room, holding her baby boy for the first time. She was sitting back on a large pillow, with a sheet wrapped around her so that the rest of her family and friends were free to come meet C.J. Ron was sitting next to her on the floor, with the happiest smile of his life and tears in his eyes. He kept going on about how amazing she was, how much he loved her and thanking her repeatedly for saving his life.
This scene was a happy memory for Kim, until it started to change. She saw C.J. and Sarah, only they were adults.
C.J. looked a lot like Ron only with red hair and green eyes. Sarah had a strong resemblance to Shego, only with blue eyes and her hair was tied in a ponytail. . He was looking down on his wife, Sarah who was laying on the air mattress, holding two babies in her arms.
Fortunately, Kim's train of thought was interrupted by her husband whispering comforting words in her ear, fighting to keep her from losing consciousness again. Zoning back into reality, she heard Hana's next question.
"So, how did you become best friends?"
"Yeah, you haven't told us that yet." Ron said, hoping for a topic of conversation that wouldn't give his wife a heart attack.
The kids smiled before talking.
"We met at school." C.J. began.
"He help me." Sarah added. " He saved me from a bunch of mean kids. He used his monkey magic."
"Monkey powers." C.J. pouted.
Sarah's pale face blushed, "Monkey Powers. He was amazing. He also got me my ribbon back and got hit in the head with a rock."
"WHAT!?" Kim screamed, startling everyone. "You didn't tell me."
"It's no big, mom." C.J. argued. "I'm a big boy."
"I'm calling your grandma." Kim said, heading for the phone and started dialing.
All this was happening as Ron rubbed his eyes. "So much for that idea."
C.J. sat in a chair pouting. He wasn't wearing a shirt while Ann examined his head, arms, shoulders and torso.
Kim, Ron and Wesley stood nearby, watching the examination quietly while Hana and Sarah seemed to find C.J. Predicament amusing.
"Hey stop it!" C.J. protested while Dr. Possible prodded his head.
"I'm almost done baby, it's not that bad." Anne Possible said, continuing to check her grandson.
C.J. pouted as he glowered at Hana and Sarah who were giggling.
"OK, he is fine," Ann said, finishing her evaluation. "If he got the injury you mentioned, it's healed."
"Mystical Monkey Powers are handy," Ron commented, looking at Kim. "See, nothing to worry about."
"Thank God," Kim said, still trying to relax.
C.J. began putting his shirt back on while Ann looked at her grandson. "Well I think our patient deserves a reward. How about some hot chocolate and marshmallows?"
C.J. smiled.
"Me too, me too!" Hana and Sarah shouted, wanting a share of the reward.
Wesley, Ann, Ron and Kim glanced at each-other smiling.
After everyone was served a hot beverage, hot chocolate or coffee depending on their age, Kim and Ron made proper introductions between the Go family and Mrs. Dr. Possible.
"So, your family were the super heroes from Go city that Kim and Ron talked about years ago?" Ann asked Wesley, who was sitting across from her.
Wesley nodded at her before replying "Yes ma'am, that's right."
"Oh please, call me Ann." The older red head replied with a smile.
"Thank you, Ann." Wesley said, returning the smile. "So, you're a brain surgeon?"
"That's right." She replied. "Although, I can't tell you how many times I've had to revert back to an E. M. T. and patch these two up." She said gesturing toward Kim and Ron.
"Moooooooom…" Kim said warningly to her mother, hoping she wouldn't go into much more detail.
With a sly smile, Ann continued "I remember one time when they just finished their freshman year where Kim had the wardrobe malfunction for a change instead of Ron, and you're sis…"
Ron quickly cleared his throat, interrupting his mother in law. This was followed by Kim shaking her head then making a nodding motion towards Sarah.
Although Mrs. Possible caught that she was about to let a secret out that needed to be kept from the children, the perplexed look on her face made it clear that an explanation was needed.
Turning to C.J. and the girls, Kim said "daddy and I need to talk with Grandma for a little bit. Why don't you guys go play up stairs, ok?
"Ok mommy!" C.J. Said excitedly, before all three children drained their cups and bolted up the stairs.
After running up the stairs, the children paused and looked at each other for a moment before C.J. Broke the silence.
"So what do you guys want to do now?" C.J. asked the two girls.
Continuing to scan their surroundings, Hana spotted the stairs to the attic. A wide smile spreading across her face, Hana said "let's go up there!" while pointing at the door.
Looking unsure, C.J. said "I don't know Han. Mommy and Daddy won't let us in there and we can't unlock the door by ourselves."
"Well I can…" Hana replied braggingly.
"Can not!" C.J. argued back.
"Can too!"
"Can not!"
"Can too!"
"Can not!"
"QUITE!" Sarah yelled at her two friends, silencing them.
Now that she had their attention, she caught her breath for a second before continuing. "Will you two quit arguing already? It is really annoying!" she said, now scowling at a two Stoppables.
C.J. was just about to say something when Sarah started talking again, turning to Han, saying in a challenging voice "I'm fine with going up there, if you can open the door. Just do it already!"
With that, Hana turned around and proudly marched towards the door. C.J. walked a couple steps behind her and had a teasing smile on his face, waiting for her inevitable failure.
Sarah watched a scene in front of her while rolling her eyes. To her, her new friend and his family kept getting stranger and stranger. First of all he had something called mystical monkey power, which seemed weird to a girl that could make hot plasma come from her hands. And his family seemed odd as well, both his parents acted funny around her.
His mother seemed to panic at random and her stomach could apparently cause a small earthquake when she was hungry.
His dad was a complete goof ball and he had an aunt who was basically a kid and that looked nothing like the rest of his family. On top of that, if what she was seeing was normal then the two of them acted more like brother and sister than anything.
Sarah walked up to her friends just as Hana reached the lock on the door. The scanner was a simple square outline below the door handle with a grid pattern inside it and an outline of an open palm in the center. C.J. and Sarah watched with interest as the girl in front of them turn towards the lock that was just over her head, stood completely straight and didn't seem to do anything for several moments. But as C.J. was just about to start mocking her again, she made a quick jump and planted both of her small feet in the center of the pad and landed gracefully before the lock maybe a soft dinging sound followed by the handprint in the middle turning green and unlocking the door. With a smug smile, Hana looked over her shoulder at the other two children and gently pushed open the door to the attic.
In the dark dusty room, unseen by the children, the slight breeze from the door opening caused a file folder sitting on a box in the back of the room to glide to the floor.
The two girls walked into the door and started up the steps until they realized C.J. wasn't following them. Turning around, they found him still standing by the door with his mouth hanging open and his eyes wide.
"But, bu-but but, wa-how? Th-that, yo-you…" The boy muttered in surprise.
While her friend kept muttering to himself, Sarah turned to Hana and asked "Does he usually do this?"
"Sometimes, but I think I might have broken his brain!" The other girl replied laughing.
"Well, do you know how to fix him?" Sarah asked, with her voice becoming a mix of annoyance and concern.
Hana shrugged her shoulders and said "Just give him a couple of minutes, he'll be fine. Come on, let's go!" she said as she turned and ran back up the steps.
Sarah started to turn and follow, then paused and glanced over her shoulder at C.J. still standing dumb struck. The little girl gave an annoyed sigh, then turned back around and snatched her friend through the door by the front of his shirt.
C.J. Gave a startled yelp, as he was snatched through the door. After shaking his head clear, he followed Sarah up the stairs to where his aunt was already digging through an old box.
After digging through the box for a moment or two, Hana came back up with something that looked like a tube of lipstick. "This is my favorite thing up here!"
"Lipstick? Yuck, that's gross! Why would you wan-YIPE!" C.J. just barely jumped out of the way, as his aunt fired a glob of pink sticky goo where he had just been standing.
Hana giggled as she fired another blast of goo at C.J. and forced him to run past her, farther into the attic. As C.J. ran towards the back wall, he was about to make a right turn to take cover in the closet, when his foot landed on something smooth that slid out from under him causing him to fall face first.
"C.J.?!" both girls shouted at the same time.
"Jinx! You owe me a soda!" Hana announced to Sarah.
"Um, oh Kay….?" Sarah replied, completely confused before shaking her head and looking back at C.J. and asking "Are you OK C.J.?" she asked in concern.
Both of them watched in silence for a few moments as C.J. Lay flat on the floor, unmoving. Just before they started get worried, from his position on the floor C.J. replied with a muffled "I'm OK…"
This caused Hana to giggle and Sarah to roll her eyes, as they moved to help him. As Sarah was pulling C.J. to his feet, his aunt had paused when she saw what made him fall.
"Hey guys, come look at this!" the little ninja said, now holding open the folder.
As the three children gathered around, they saw the prison photo of a woman with long black hair, green eyes and very pale skin.
Meanwhile, Kim, Ron and Wesley had explained the situation about Sarah to Mrs. Dr. Possible.
This earned an apologetic look from Ann as she said "I'm so sorry you're having such a difficult time, Wesley. If there's anything I can do for you or Sarah just let me know."
"Well you see, part of the reason I took a job here in Middleton was to ask for your help," the young man replied awkwardly.
"Oh?" Ann asked her curiosity peaked.
"Well, I know Sarah has her mother's plasma powers," He continued. "But you have to understand something. After my family got hit by the comet, we went to doctors to see what had happened to us. One of the things these doctors said was that many of us wouldn't be able to have children. And that if we did, they would probably have chronic health problems due to radiation."
Dr. Possible nodded, as she replied "Okay, I see your concern and I would be happy to help, but why me specifically? I'm not a pediatrician, or a geneticist."
Wesley frowned irritably. "Because, as far as I can tell, Sarah doesn't have any of the predicted medical problems and she has her mother's power. Which I may add, none of the doctors even guessed would happen."
"All right, but why do you want Sarah to see a neurologist?" Ann asked gently. "And why me specifically?"
"The doctors we went to after the comet changes, said that in addition to our powers that the mutation from the comet made our nervous systems a lot stronger," Wesley explained. "They said that the energy from our individual powers travels and interacts with all our nerves. That's how we control them. So it would be a good idea for Sarah to see someone in your field. As to why I want to see you specifically, I could really use someone I can trust not to turn my niece into a science experiment. When I looked online, I recognize your name from working with Kim and Ron back in the day and that you were the most experienced specialist anywhere near us. And the fact that you are somewhat familiar with my sister's power makes you the closest thing to an expert I could find."
When Wesley mentioned the altered nervous systems in his family, the three relatives in the room shared a look with each other that Wesley noticed when he speaking. "What is it?" he asked.
"When C.J. was born we did some tests and learned that his body reacts to the MMP a lot like you just described," Ron explained, "Which reminds me, we still need to talk with Sensei about all this."
Kim, wondered out loud, "I wonder if that's why their powers interacted the way they did earlier?"
While she was saying this, Wesley said to Ron, "It's starting to get late. If it's that important we should call him before anything else happens."
Raising her voice to be heard over everyone, Ann said, "Wait a minute, hold on! Did I hear right? Sarah and C.J.'s powers interacted with each other?"
After a moment, everyone nodded and gave an affirmative answer. Seeing this, Ann was deep in thought, "If that's the case, I would like to examine them both. Assuming, you all agree."
Kim and Ron looked at each other and made a silent agreement, before turning to Wesley.
"It does make sense…" Kim said carefully.
"But Sarah is your niece," Ron added. "We won't push you into anything you don't want to do."
Wesley shook his head, before saying, "No, you all are right. We need to figure out what's going on with the kids. And this is what I moved us here for but things are going a lot crazier than I thought they would be!"
"Welcome to our life." Kim chuckled before her mother spoke.
"Okay, since you three still need to contact Y-er… Japan, why don't you call Wade while I make the appointment?"
Nodding, Kim clicked on her Kimmunicator and brought her wrist up to the table for all to see, while her mother stepped into the living room to call the hospital.
"Hey Kim!" the eighteen year old, said on the screen. While the young man hadn't lost any weight, he had clearly grown into his body. This added with his deepening voice, reminded Kim of her and Ron's trip to the future when they were in high school.
"Hi Wade, I-wait. What's that?" Kim said, pointing toward a bra hanging on the corner of a computer tower, next to Wade.
"Oh, uh…um-I, it…" he blushed, and starred hopelessly.
"WADE!" Kim shrieked,. Then continued in a harsh whisper. "First of all I have company, and would appreciate them not seeing girl underwear in your room! And second of all, just because my uncle Slim is into high tech robotics, doesn't mean he won't come after you with a shot gun!"
"Hee hee… Uh, what can I do for you guys?" Wade, nervously laughed and asked, while he tossed the incriminating article of clothing over his shoulder.
"Something's come up and we need you to contact Sensei for us, please and thank you." Kim replied, still slightly tweaked.
"No problem!" The teen said quickly and typed in the commands faster than normal.
"What does your uncle have to do with anything?" Wesley asked.
Kim froze in shock. She then turned and glared at Wesley. "How much did you hear?" She demanded.
"Not much," Wesley said. "Apparently Wade upset you about something I missed and you said something about your uncle."
"Eavesdropping is rude," Kim snapped.
"I beg your pardon," Wesley demanded. "I thought this involves all of us."
Kim groaned. "Sorry. It's just…"
"Wade upset you and it's a private matter whatever it is?" Wesley asked.
Kim nodded.
"OK, I'll be quiet," Wesley said, taking a step away.
Kim looked back at Wade, glowering. "What is talking so long, Wade?"
"I send a message, I'm waiting for a reply," Wade explained. "It shouldn't take long. Ah got a reply. I'll set you up."
Wade's image was placed with an elderly Japanese man, wearing a red robe with gold trim.
"Good day, Kim Stoppable-Sama,' He said politely, "What can I do for you today?"
"Hello Sensei, some… interesting things have happened today and Ron and I thought we should tell you. Also we would like your permission to disclose certain things to an acquaintance of ours, who's become directly involved."
"I see. Would you care to elaborate?" The elderly teacher replied with a nod.
With that, Kim preceded to explain. "Earlier today, my Son befriended a girl with powers. The girl's name is Sarah, the daughter of Shego."
"Interesting." Sensei replied.
"she is being raised by her uncle, Wesley Go. He's the acquaintance we told you about and Sarah has plasma powers much like her mother," Kim explained. "C.J. has monkey powers like Ron, but recently, when she and C.J. were together, their powers…for like of a better word interconnected somehow."
"Hmmm… Most interesting, most interesting indeed." Sensei commented, while stroking his long white beard. Then he asked, "May I speak to Mr. Go, please?"
Kim rotated the communication device, so that the two men could speak to each other.
"Sensei." Wesley said, respectfully.
"Mr. Go-San." The ninja master replied, with a slight nod of the head. Then continued and asked, "My… organization is familiar with your family's work in Go city, that being said I'd Trust that a former superhero with a secret identity, could be trusted with the knowledge of a secret facility and its location?"
"Yes sir, I understand," Wesley said.
Also," Sensei added, "given your niece's apparent connection to young C.J., Maintaining the secrecy of the Yamanouchi School, and the mystical monkey power, would be in her best interest as well?"
"I promise I will not say or do anything, under any circumstances to compromise your organization, or any of the people involved." Wesley assured him, bowing his head. "You honor me with your confidence sir."
"Very well then." Sensei said, picking up on the thinly veiled meaning in the young man's statement and satisfied that he understood how sensitive misinformation was. Then said, "You may want to answer that." The
Wesley was about to ask what he meant by that, when his phone buzzed. Looking down he checked the caller ID and said in surprise, "Michael? Um, excuse me." He said as he stepped out the back door, to answer.
"Wait." Ron said, as his wife turn the Kimmunicator back around to face them. "Are you telling me that a guy you'd never met before is now in the loop involving Yamanouchi and the MMP, just like that?" Ron asked, snapping his fingers for emphasis.
"Indeed, Ron-Sama." The old teacher replied, with the slightest hint of humor in his voice. Then said in a slightly lower voice, "Truth be told, we received instructions beforehand on how to react to this situation."
Kim looked at the screen with a puzzled expression for a moment, then a look of realization took its place, and she said. "Aw, I see ..."
Ron looked at his wife, clearly lost until she glanced at him knowingly. Then it dawned on him what they were talking about. "Oh… Beforehand, I get it."
Sensei chuckled at his former student, before saying. "It has been a pleasure speaking with two of you but there are things I must see too. Good day, Ron Stoppable-Sama, Kim Stoppable-Sama."
Ron smiled and replied, "Alright Sensei, see you later!"
Sensei lightly pounded his chest twice and flashed a peace sign, before disconnecting communications.
Mrs. Dr. Possible stepped back into the kitchen, while putting on her coat and saying. "Well, everything's set. I'll see C.J. and Sarah a few months from now. I guess I'll be on my way. Where's Wesley?" the older red head wondered.
Kim looked at her mother and said, "He stepped outside to take a call. We'll let him know about the appointment."
Ann smiled. "Okay then, bye kids!" she said, as she made her way towards the front door.
"Bye mom!" Kim and Ron said at the same time, as they heard the door closed.
Kim looked at her husband and opened her mouth but before she could call another jinx, they heard a loud thumping sound from the back of the house. After getting up and opening the door to investigate, they found Wesley slumped against the wall, with his arms hanging loosely at his sides and his cell phone still in hand. Looking at his face they saw he was paler than normal his eyes were unfocused, looking off into space.
"Wesley?" Kim asked concerned.
"You okay man?" Ron questioned.
Without looking at them, Wesley said in a whisper. "Hego…f-found Sarah's birth certificate…"
