Author's note: So, song for this chapter, Safe and Sound by Taylor Swift. Tbh tho this chapter is like- sickeningly sweet. Idk how that happened. Also whoops I meant to explain the job in this chapter and didn't. Next chapter then... maybe
Trudes, haha I could def see Blake selling his soul if that was an option. If it would get Lisa back to him, he totally would. Luckily that's not an option here.
It was a warm embrace. Arms wrapped around Lisa, one on her waist, the other raised so a hand could smooth her hair. She vaguely recognized the jazz playing in the background, but couldn't bring herself to focus on it. All she cared for was the comfort of being held. After her talk with Blake she'd rushed home. It didn't feel wrong at all that she'd gone straight to Jackson. She hadn't gone to Cynthia, or Joe, certainly not her house with Blake. Going to Jackson simply felt natural.
"Leese, what's wrong?" Jackson asked.
For a moment Lisa felt bad over simply collapsing on him, rather than explaining why she was upset. Regardless of the guilt, she needed to tell him. "I... met with John. To tell him it's over. Really over..." she paused, taking a breath. Somehow saying it was over with Blake had been a relief. "He's mad. I told him we slept together... I halfway think he'll come after you himself, rather than letting Danny at you."
Jackson had remained silent as she spoke, gently running his hand through her hair. The warmth in his hold seemed to stem from the contact. Once Lisa seemed to be done Jackson spoke up. "I'll be okay. It's true I've underestimated Daniel, but once we're on the job we'll be untouchable."
"Like the guy you're supposed to kill?" She asked quietly, bitterness laced in her words. For all the love she held for Jackson, his job was never something she could agree with. Even the first time they were together, it caused her so much grief, knowing when he was out late that he may not come back from a job.
He pressed a gentle kiss to her forehead. "He doesn't know what's going to happen. He's a politician, they're all oblivious to threats. I, however, know how to watch my back. Not to mention, I'll have you by my side."
She sighed, trying to curl closer as she spoke, "Danny's a cop though. No one will suspect him."
"That's why you'll be there. I promise Leese, I'll be okay," He promised, pausing to give her a comforting smile. "Is there anything else upsetting you?"
Several minutes passed, Lisa not saying anything as she drew shapeless lines across Jackson's chest. "He... John asked if I was insane, for loving you. It's been six years since you flipped my life upside down... and ever since I've never had a calm life. I've either been with a killer or a cop... I can't take a normal life. I'm not sane..."
He frowned, not at all liking hearing her say that. "Leese, you're the most sane woman I know. Just because you like having an exciting life doesn't make you insane," he said, trying to comfort her.
Lisa pulled away slightly, the hand in her hair dropping to her shoulder. "Jackson, you're a murderer, psychopath, whatever. John's right when he says you can't possibly love me. But... I do love you."
Jackson raised his hand to caress her face, "Leese that's nonsense. I do love you. Why else would I have gone to all this trouble to get you back?"
The question made her pause, before sighing and laying down again. "I thought you wanted revenge..." she whispered, scared to admit that.
He wrapped his free hand around her, holding her close. "I could never want to hurt you Leese."
