Jaime was awake and feeling on edge. Her danger senses were playing merry hell, fluctuating between extreme danger to only slight danger. So she had climbed onto the roof of the house in order to keep an eye on things while everyone else was sleeping, napping or just doing their own thing. So far there was nothing to worry about. It may have been dark but she had excellent night vision. As she sat against the chimney stack, the Scots-girl listened to all the sounds a hot and clammy Miami could offer. Things croaked, crickets chirped, sirens wailed, an airplane passed by overhead, the faint sound of a crazy Floridian shooting off a gun and the odd sound of grunting.
Jaime's eyes widened and she tensed up. Wait, what? Somebody was climbing up the side of the house! Hackles rising, Jaime activated her Electrokinesis and got ready to throw a ball of it at the possible enemy. But she soon stood down when she saw who it was. It was The Doctor, well the Twelfth one to be exact. "Oh, hello!" The Scots-girl greeted, shaking the static electricity away as she watched The Doctor climb onto the roof. "Wha' brings ye up here?"
"It's you, actually," he replied, carefully crossing the flat part of the roof towards Jaime and sat down next to her.
"Och, aye? Why'd ye want tae see me?" Jaime asked, brows raised.
"You, Jaime MacInarah, intrigue me." She waited for him to continue. "And it's a long list of curiousness."
"Of course it is!" Jaime uttered with a chuckle.
The Doctor grinned. "The Pandorica," he began. "How is it that you were the one to get locked up in that so-called prison instead of The Doctor…your Doctor." He asked. "And what did Missy have to do with it?"
Jaime sighed and looked away to stare across the rooftops, thinking of an answer. "Okay," she muttered once she figured out the answer. "I think The Master might have found me a wee bit intimidatin', or maybe he did some research." Jaime explained. "It's jus' really complicated."
"Aren't we all!" The Doctor replied, and Jaime chuckled, looking back at the Time Lord with a nervous smile. "Just explain it as best you can."
Jaime nodded her head. "The trouble first started with The Trickster…" The Doctor scowled angrily at the mention of the Ancient Being. "…'cause I'm one of the very few All-Powerfuls in our universe tha' thing took a likin' too. Had me abducted and tried tae convince me tae join him." She explained to The Doctor what The Trickster tried to do in order to join him.
"Och, the Chimera flower is an extremely psychoactive plant. It's a wonder you didn't do any further damage whilst under the influence."
Jaime smiled grimly at The Doctor. Everyone else had been understanding or treated her with kid gloves. Not with this Doctor though, and she was fine with it.
"I wish I could say tha' was true," she replied. "But after The Trickster's plan failed I sort of went on the rampage across the Universe." She looked away again while The Doctor waited for her to continue. "Have ye ever heard of The Fire-Bird?" Jaime questioned. It was a bit of a longshot. She highly doubted there'd be anything about it in this universe.
"Vaguely," The Doctor replied, which did actually surprise Jaime so much she looked at The Doctor with wide eyes. "The Fire-Bird is a Myth on Gallifrey…in this Universe perhaps, I'm not sure about anywhere else. It's said a great Bird of Fire would wage war across the entire universe, setting planets alight as they crossed paths. Enslaving the weak and butchering those it angered or felt intimidated by…"
"STOP!" Jaime snapped and when The Doctor looked at her he saw that her face was a lot paler than normal. "If ye must know, the Fire-Bird is me. I went tearin' across the Universe and causin' so much trouble tha' my younger incarnation is on so many Wanted Lists for so many crimes in too many Galaxies it's hard tae keep up." She said, feeling embarrassed about her actions. "I did so much damage tha' a Space Force was created tae stop me, Bounty Hunters followed me and The Master and The Shadow Proclamation formed an alliance and put me into an indestructible prison."
Jaime took a deep breath before continuing.
"I spent years in tha' thing, nearly a hundred of 'em. And because it had an inhibitor it hurt a lot. And 'cause tha' incarnation had a brain haemorrhage it made everythin' so much worse."
The Doctor grimaced in sympathy. Of course it hadn't been that simple. "How did you escape from the Pandorica then?" He asked.
Jaime shook her head. "Tha's really complicated." She replied.
Then she told The Doctor how and why Donna had turned up in Colchester around the same time her Doctor, along with Rose and the Ponds. It had been a Paradox and Jaime had to go to Chiswick in order to help Donna to remember The Doctor. In the process she became a full Time Lord with memories from The Doctor as well as her own. Shortly after that, the TARDIS took them to 1980's Amesbury while a sentient tracker helped to reveal an underground chamber beneath Stonehenge.
The Scots-girl looked at the Scottish Doctor, feeling waves of sadness coming off him after mentioning Donna. She was unsure whether this Universe's Donna had her memories restored or not. She decided not to say anything as she felt it wasn't the right moment.
"We found the Pandorica, along with an ancient Cyberman, though we took care of it quickly," Jaime continued. "When we did manage tae open it and found younger me inside it was a wee bit of a surprise. I couldnae remember how I got in there 'til new memories came tae me."
The Doctor was nodding, keeping up with the story. "And that was through intervention of Missy and The Shadow Proclamation?" The Doctor checked and Jaime nodded her head.
"Aye!" She replied.
"And what did you do with your younger self?" The Time Lord inquired.
"I had tae make her forget wha' happened to her, transfer the other half of the Metacrisis to her so she'd safely regenerate instead of dyin', then sent her on her way." She replied.
"Thus closing the Paradox." The Doctor surmised and Jaime nodded her head again. The Paradox for this adventure had yet to be completed.
"Anyway, the last place I landed was Metabelis III and I almost became spider food if Dyna hadnae saved me." The Doctor stared, his brows raised in surprise. "I had a blow out," Jaime continued, tapping the side of her head. "And it almost killed me." The Doctor winced. It would have almost been like a Neural Implosion for her, only more deadlier. "She helped me get back tae health before returnin' me tae The Doctor." Jaime finished.
The dark sky was looking a tad lighter.
"How did you get those abilities?" The Doctor questioned next. "Were you born with them…" He trailed off when he saw Jaime shaking her head.
"Nope. I was born with brittle bone disease," she replied. "But it wasnae 'til mum took me tae a hospital in Cambridge did everythin' change…"
Jaime told him what the MI6 in her old universe were doing to the disabled and sick kids on their program and she could see The Doctor getting angry, his attack brows furrowing deeply. Waves of fury soon washed off him once she told him about Jenny being there and how she had been treated by MI6.
"I got my powers from Jenny. While she has Infinite abilities, I'm more of a Psionic Manipulator. And I'm the only kid tae gain a siblin' bond with her, so tha' makes me her sister."
"And you call The Doctor your dad?" The Scottish Doctor added in an inquiring way.
Jaime nodded with a hint of a smile. "Aye, but technically he adopted me, and I'm fine with tha' 'cause I've no idea who my real father is."
The Doctor frowned in thought. "And would you want to know?" He asked.
Jaime shook her head. "Nah, I'm fine with The Doctor. I dinnae need anybody else."
She could see The Doctor had even more questions on his Mind. "The Doctor and John are brothers and John has a sibling bond with Donna," she told the Time Lord.
Looking confused, The Doctor scratched his head, puzzled. "So he would be your uncle and since Rose is bonded to The Doctor she would be your step-mum."
Feeling his confusion, Jaime snorted laughter. "I know it sounds weird, but we jus' happen tae be a wee bit quirky."
The Doctor chuckled, agreeing with her. In a way it reminded him of how he had a family with River, Amy and Rory. Three people he missed very much! He looked at Jaime and saw that she was looking at him with a sad expression. He remembered she could read Minds. "You and your mother came from a Universe where I only exist as a TV show, is that right?" He asked and saw apprehension appear on her face. "It's okay. I know about the TV show. I met the actor that played me as my Tenth incarnation. That was when i was travelling with Delta and her friends."
Less suspicious now, Jaime nodded her head. "Aye. I know my dad's entire past and most of his future," she stated. "However, my foreknowledge ends with you." The Doctor's brows raised. "We left our universe before we could see any episodes from the actor playin' a version of you."
The Doctor nodded his head thoughtfully, now fully understanding what exactly Jaime was. The sky was becoming less darker by the minute and The Doctor could see the first beginnings of a dawn appearing across the roof tops. The sound of a door opening, followed by it clicking shut caught their attention. "Who's that at this time?" The Time Lord asked.
Feeling the strong emotions coming from them, Jaime had a feeling she knew who it was and moved into a crouch. Sure enough they saw Delta walking down the path towards the street. She was wearing a hoodie top and sports trousers, along with trainers.
"Where's she going?" The Doctor wondered as he watched Delta step out of the gate and throw her hood up before running off.
"I dinnae know, but I got tae keep an eye on her." Jaime replied. "Och, I've got somethin' for you." She made all the research papers reappear and gave them all to The Doctor. "Ye might want tae keep an eye the people in those papers. Anythin' could happen tae 'em." Now she stood up, balancing on the roof top.
Seconds later The Doctor watched as the Scots-girl jumped off the roof top onto the ground. The Doctor thought it might have been reckless and she could have injured herself. Well, that was until she flew off into the sky. "Wow!" The Doctor muttered, awestruck as he watched her fly through the dark sky before disappearing from view. He looked down at the bundle of research files and opened the first one, noting that it was a medical file of a ten year old boy with glasses. He was called Grant and lived in New York.
