Well, this was new. The bunny was a bit on edge as she was taken from her cell and lead down the dark hallways. The last time she had been down here she was trying to find a way out of this damned place. Now she was being taken somewhere, and she had a bad feeling she knew exactly where it was going to be. After that night, or day, or whatever the hell it was, it's hard to keep track of time down in this hell hole; anyway, after her encounter with that raccoon she's been having recurring nightmares of waking up and being back in that chair. She still has yet to fully recover from what happened and doubts she ever will with the lack of proper medical treatment. If she ever walks the same again it will be a miracle. She wishes to not have a repeat of what happened, because she doesn't know if she'll survive this time around.
As the rabbit hobbled forward, she was continually shoved by the mammals escorting her. She wanted to growl and say something snarky, but she thought it best that she didn't irritate them in case they decided to let that raccoon hear about it. She gritted her teeth as she thought about him. Haunting her dreams, keeping her and all these animals here; he was a needing supply of gasoline on the raging fire that burned within her. She swears if she has any chance to kill this bastard she will not hesitate. For now, though, she would have to play along for as long as they kept her alive hoping an opportunity would present itself; and most of all hoping Nick would somehow find her.
How she's missed that fox. Yah, she misses a lot of people like her parents and the rest of her family; but Nick was different. When someone's apart of your life nearly every day for a couple years, they have a big impact on your life. Nick was no exception. If she can have one good thing happen to her in these times, it would be to see her fox just one more time. To hear his voice and his laugh; she'd even take that infuriating smug smirk. Hell, a simple picture would suffice at this point. Just to have anything.
With one final shove, Judy was pushed up to a door that she didn't recognize which was honestly a little more terrifying than going back to that room. What did they want with her now?
One of her escorts knocked on the door and an all too familiar voice called for us to enter. The entered a very brightly lit, white room that made Judy squint. Compared to the rest of this place she may as well be staring into the sun. When her vision did become normal her eyes landed on the familiar face of the raccoon who was looking at her with that sinister smile that she saw every time she closed her eyes.
"Officer Hopps, it's good that you could join me," he said, obviously amused with himself.
"I didn't have much of a choice," Judy wanted to spit back in his face, but she kept her cool and spoke calmly… mostly.
"Of course, I just thought you may want to hear a little humor before I show you why I have brought you here." After he said that, his smirk became ever more twisted and sinister. Judy needed to know what the hell that had done, though she feared she was not going to like the answer.
"What did you do?" It took every fiber of her being to keep herself from attacking this son of a bitch, even if she knew she'd probably be shot before she got anywhere near him. Still, the urge was almost irresistible.
"Come, sit down and we'll watch one of my new favorite videos." The way he spoke made Judy's stomach twist and turn; she knew something bad was coming and she had a very bad feeling she knew exactly what it was.
It took another push from one of the escorts to get her to move any closer to the raccoon where she took a seat in the vacant chair that was on the other side of his desk. He motioned his head towards a screen where a video flickered on to screen. Judy's heart sank as she saw the building. She recognized it immediately as Nicks' apartment. She swallowed hard not liking the implications of all this. If Judy has gained any knowledge about this raccoon, it's that he likes to inflict pain and suffering on those he deems 'evil'. Which she finds to be way more than just ironic. Anyway, whatever was about to happen Judy knew it was going to hurt, a lot. Then she saw him.
He pulled up next to the building in a police car and hopped out. Judy has never felt such conflicting emotions in her life. On one paw, there he is standing right there. Seeing him filled her with more joy in that moment than her entire time spent here. She was getting her wish, to see him again. But then the dread started setting in. Judy already knew that this may be the last time she was ever going to see him.
She noticed he seemed to be distracted by something which seemed kind of odd. Then he walked away off screen only to come back moments later. Obviously, something had caught his attention and he went to investigate but from the looks of it, it was nothing. Still, something didn't seem right with that. That thought was erased from her mind though as Nick walked into the building. Was that it? Was that what this sadistic prick wanted to show her? She figured something much worse was going…
Judy jumped in her chair as she witnessed an inferno engulf the entire upper part of the building. Her mouth hung wide open as tears started pouring out from her eyes as the realization of what happened hit her like a freight train. She couldn't believe it; didn't want to believe what she had just witnessed. She figured something like this was going to happen, but to actually see it was more than enough to break the poor bunny's heart. She couldn't even hear the raccoon's evil laughter as she sobbed away at the screen, pleading, hoping that this was all just a bad dream. Unfortunately, this was her reality she now had to live in. She wanted to scream, to thrash around at anything near her, to scream into the heavens asking what she did to deserve this, but all she could do was stare at the exploded building and weep.
Her head whipped over to the animal responsible when she heard him laughing. She would've thrown her own safety out the window and attacked the lunatic if the paw of one of his guards didn't land on her shoulder, keeping her from doing anything. "Why?" She spoke through gritted teeth, yet her voice conveyed a certain emptiness in it now. She didn't understand why he was doing this to her. Out of all the mammals they have kidnapped, this raccoon seems to have taken an interest in her. That interest was set to torment her as much as he could for some unknown reason.
"Oh, Officer Hopps, I don't want to spoil the surprise quite yet; that would ruin the fun," And that was all he gave her. After that, the raccoon seemed to be done with having his fun. He motioned to the guards and Judy was taken back to her cell.
As she was being forced back into the cold stone room, Judy saw nothing but the explosion that engulfed Nicks building. There was no way that he would have been able to survive that. And not only him. Anyone within a few floors of that thing would have been burned to a crisp. They killed a bunch of random mammals just to try and break Judy. She has to admit, they're doing a damn good job at it.
"Judy?" a soft voice called to her. She could hear the worry in his voice, most likely assuming something like last time had happened to her.
"I'm…" she paused. She was going to say that she was fine, but she really wasn't. Physically, they hadn't done anything to her, but her mental state and spirit were faltering. Ever since the first day she found herself here she always had the mentality that she would get out of here and that everything would be good by the end of this. But as the time passed and more and more animals are murdered, and now with the death of Nick, even if she did get out of here alive nothing would ever be the same again. The Zootopia she knew was gone; these monsters have made an impact that would forever scar the city and there was no going back from this. And with Nick gone, a part of her life died with him. The life they had lived together, and any possibility of a life together in the future was all gone. So, she was definitely not fine.
"I'm managing." She settled on.
Out of all this time, Earl had been with her all this time. He was always someone friendly to talk too as usually anyone who came here was always kind of nasty; to be fair she couldn't really blame them but still, Earl had been the only light in this dark place. It was nice hearing stories of his life with his family. It was a simple life that he had. He ran a small store in old town Zootopia and ran it for a long time until bigger companies came in and drove him to sell. Luckily by that time he was able to retire which he did. And his so-called crime for being here, a crime that this group believes requires him to be executed; he did some under the table deals to help his business get ahead. Illegal? yes. Punishable by anything more than a fine? Hell no. That's one of the many things that made Judy believe there was more to this than she knew, but she had no idea what the hell these monsters could gain from this.
"What did he do? Why did he want you." The fox questioned.
Judy took a deep breath as the very recent event began spurring up her emotions once again, getting tears to start forming in her eyes. It took her a moment, but she eventually composed herself and explained everything that happened. By the end of it, Judy found herself on her knees. There were no tears this time though, she had gone beyond that. Now she found herself just staring blankly at the ground as she tried to block out everything around her. Nick was her last hope, the last mammal she could count on, and he was gone. With him dead, there was only one thing Judy could hope to do. She had been staying away from the plan because it was a suicide mission, but now that didn't seem to matter.
Earl didn't know how to respond. It's a shame what this poor bunny has been through these past, however long they have been here. Sure, he has been here as long as her, but they seemed to have something against the poor officer. Maybe it has to do with her escape attempt, but he felt like it was more than that. If they really wanted to, they would have killed her already. Instead, they've kept her alive and just seem to be torturing her at this point. No one else who has come through here has been treated as harshly as her.
Earl has by far been here the longest, but Judy was not too far behind him. Everyone else, however, has long been taken away and used as examples for these peoples twisted definition of justice and order. Only himself and Judy were the original ones to remain. They've seen knew faces every now and again, but they were usually quick to be taken away. Yet, here he still remains. He always wondered why they were keeping him alive, what did they have to gain from it? He wasn't complaining, mostly just confused. Oh, and also terrified that at any moment he could be ripped out of this cell and publicly executed. He didn't like to dwell on those thoughts though.
"I'm sorry Judy, I really wish there was something that I could do to help you. I can only guess what you are feeling right now, but you need to keep strong. I don't know what they have against you, but you can't let them get to you. That's what they want, to break you down, because they know if they can break down one of the toughest animals in all of Zootopia, then they will win. But if you stand strong, and stay firm, no matter what happens you will come out the winner." Earl had never been the one to give inspiring speeches to anyone save for his own kids, but he felt like he had to try and get some sort of message across to her. And he thought all of that to be true. If these mammals can get Judy to break, then all of Zootopia is lost.
Judy heard his words and was thankful to have met such a nice mammal, here of all places. She doesn't know what it is about foxes, but they just seem to get to her in the best ways possible. She picker herself off the ground, wiped away any stray tears and walked over to the bars of her cell. "Thank you, Earl. I… I really needed that." His words really fixed nothing that was wrong, but they did make her feel better. It also made her want to take a stand against these mammals one last time.
"I thought you said you shot him up with enough shit to knock him out until tomorrow," Judy jumped from the sudden snarl of one of the guards that was frequently put there to guard her and Earl. And he sounded more angry than usual.
"I did, but this bastard just wont stay down," another voice growled, followed by a whacking noise. If Judy didn't know any better, she'd say that her and Earl were about to get a new neighbor. Its been awhile too.
"Hurry and shove him in before he gets fully conscious."
It didn't take long for three figures to be stood in front of Judy with their backs facing her. The cell was quickly opened, followed by a body being thrown in, then the door being slammed shut.
"Enjoy your new friend you two," one of them chuckled before they both walked away again.
There was silence for a few moments, save for the low groans of the new mammal, until Earl finally spoke up. "Well, that was unexpected."
Judy had to agree. She decided to take the initiative in this moment.
"Hey, are you alright over there?" Judy questioned. In response, Judy was given groans and mumbling that she could not understand. She decided that it would be best to give him a little more time. He was just coming down from the effects of who knows how much tranquilizer. They also knew he was going to have a headache from hell.
It took a while, but the mammal seemed to regain his composure.
"Whe- where the hell am I?"
"Basically hell," Earl said nonchalantly.
"Nah, I've been there. This aint hell, but its definitely not very inviting."
Judy wanted to make a comment about that but felt that wasn't the most important topic. This was always the interesting part of meeting others who came here. It was always a lottery of why these mammals were brought here. Some are like Earl and are here for very little. Then there's the murderers, rapists, serial killers, ect. So, it'll be interesting hearing this person's story.
"I'm assuming you're familiar with the group Tides of Change?" Judy asked.
"Of course," He said, pausing for a moment to let everything sink in. "So, they did end up snagging me up. How wonderful." The person chuckled. From that response, Judy thought the dude was insane, because no sane person would laugh at such a revelation.
"Uh, yah. So, who are you and what'd you do to get these animals to take you?" Earl questioned.
"What is this, story time," he laughed in a slight mocking tone.
"Hey, we're all in the same boat here. Might as well get to know each other since it's the only thing we can really do," Earl commented. The newbie said nothing for a second, but Judy saw him pick himself up and walk towards the bars. Once he was in the light, they both saw that he was an older looking coyote.
"Alright, I'll play along. The names Arthur Shills. As for why I'm here, well that's a little complicated."
"How so?" Judy quickly asked. The coyote looked at Judy for the first time and upon seeing her his eyes lit up a little.
"Wait, sorry. Officer Hopps? Officer Judy Hopps?" Arthur questioned. Honestly at this point Judy wasn't surprised that all the mammals knew who she was.
"Yes, that's me." She confirmed for him.
"Well, aint that lucky." He gave a hearty laugh.
"So are you going to explain anything, or just keep being vague and ominous," Earl interjected into the conversation.
"Right, sorry. I've just heard a lot about you from my friends' kid. My buddies kid fantasized over you and Officer Wilde for a long time before he joined the police and then he actually ended up being paired up with Officer Wilde." Arthur boasted a little.
At the mention of his name, Judy nearly broke again. She was able to hold it together for now. She did find that interesting though. What a small world. He pushed past that and decided to change the subject back to why he was here. She asked him again why he was brought here.
"Well, you see, they didn't like me killing some of there men. Me and that friend I talked about earlier have been posted up in his house for the past month waiting just in case the bastards came and came they did. We killed one in my friend's house and I chased the others as far as I could. I must have underestimated them though and the last thing I remember I was chasing them and now I'm here. So, they obviously got the jump on me."
Well, this guys just full of surprises. Again, neither Judy nor Earl would have guessed that. Whoever this person is, it was obvious you didn't want to mess with him. Unless you're a giant secret organization trying to cleanse a city.
"Was it worth it though? I mean now you're stuck here and will most likely get executed." Earl pointed out.
A smile slowly crept onto his face as he tapped on his arm for some reason, "Oh, you'll see just how worth it, it was."
Yet another Chapter done and up. I got it out a little later than I wanted, but school has been more busy than I was expecting. I do not recommend taking three math classes at the same time.
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this chapter and please leave a review for what you think about it and let me know where I could improve.
Again, thank you for reading.
Keep On Keeping On
Peace Out
