Giyu sat at the far corner of the diner, looking once, twice into his phone. He looked around the rather packed establishment, but not like he's waiting for someone and wanting to be like everyone - having a date night. It was a given, because it's Valentine's Day and the diner had a discounted meal for couples. Giyu never really wanted any part of that. All he wants is some alone time... maybe get some dinner too.
But then he just seemed to forget why he was even there, ending up spending three hours just scrolling away on his phone without actually ordering anything aside from a glass of water. The diner's crew had started to notice him, and not sooner did a waitress walk toward him.
"Excuse me, sir," the waitress jolted Giyu back into reality, almost making him jump off his seat.
"Yes…?" Giyu shifted in his seat, looking up to the lady.
"I'll have to ask you to leave," she says, picking up the empty glass of water on his table. "If you're gonna stay, you're gonna have to order more than a glass of water."
"Oh, uh… right…," Giyu was just about to stand up and leave when he suddenly felt a hand on his arm, gripping it quite tightly. He looked over to his left to see the last person he'd expect to even be where he is.
"My, my… all this time you haven't even ordered anything?" Giyu's felt himself rooted to the spot as Shinobu started talking and chuckling. The waitress only cocked an eyebrow at their direction. Shinobu just laughed as she pushed him along to sit down, bowing toward the waitress. "I'm sorry. He's been waiting for me. Can I have two cups of coffee, please?"
"Um… sure… here's the menu if you'd like anything else," the waitress replied, handing them both the menu before walking back to the kitchen area.
"I… I thought you were busy…?" Giyu quietly asked, slightly moving away from his unexpected date. Shinobu smiled, looking toward him for a second.
"Nope. I've been to my parents' place," she replied, pausing as she received their coffee and ordering pasta for the two of them. "How about you? Same as always?"
He just nodded, sipping his coffee. Shinobu's lips curled upward in that familiar smile of hers. The waitress soon came back, their pasta dinner in a tray in her hands.
"You sure are too cheap for ordering water and making your date pay for the food," Giyu almost choked at what he heard just as their food was set down on the table. Both her and the waitress chuckled.
"Enjoy your meal," the waitress said before walking away. Giyu was a little unnerved at the stare she gave him.
"Oh come on, I was joking. But really, it's a big drag and I'm tired of playing matchmaker for Sis everytime…," her eyes wandered off to the other people in the place, Giyu's gaze followed her.
"Is she still with Sanemi?"
"Yeah. It's their fourth anniversary," she pauses, sipping coffee, scowling at the thought.
"Fourth?"
"Four months."
"Oh." There was silence.
"Say, Giyu… why are you even here?"
"Those three brought me here last month. I could say I kind of grew to like this place like they did…"
"I see…"
Another minute of absolute silence came over the two. Giyu looked down into the plates of pasta on the table. "Shall we eat? It's getting cold…"
"Oh yeah, yeah." They ate in silence, awkwardly shifting in their seats and looking at random things in the diner as the establishment's speakers began blasting awfully romantic tracks.
"Hey…"
"Hm…?"
"Shall we keep this up longer?" They stared at each other for a few seconds then toward the next occupied seats.
"Yeah I guess…," Giyu answered, setting down his cup. "I kind of miss the times when you're not annoying me."
Shinobu playfully punched him on the shoulder. "Fine. The food's discounted anyway… and I like pretending to be your girlfriend. Happy Valentine's, you dork."
"Thanks. Happy Valentine's to you too."
"But really, when are you ever going to get a real girlfriend?"
