Swimming
Hermione opened her mouth and snapped it shut. She opened it again. "You mean you don't—"
"I don't," Harry said with a glare.
"I'm sorry. I don't mean to make you angry, but I can't believe you don't know how to swim."
"I can't believe you're that surprised. All the Dursleys cared about was I was able to clean their house, cook their food, and keep my freakishness away from them. They never planned to take me to the pool or a family vacation to the beach, so my learning to swim was unimportant. And if I happened to drown somehow, that would have probably been a happy accident."
"Don't say that," Hermione admonished, but she had to admit, knowing what she knew about Harry's relatives, they probably wouldn't have batted an eyelash if Harry died by drowning.
Harry shrugged. "But now I have to go in the Black Lake for a treasure, and I can't swim. What do I do?"
Hermione put her arm around Harry's back. "We'll figure it out. First, we figure out how to help you breathe under water. And then I can show you some basic stuff so you'll move through the water easily. It'll be fine. You and me, we can do anything."
Harry rested his head on Hermione's shoulder. "What would I do without you?"
"You'll never have to find out," Hermione vowed, and it was a promise she intended to keep.
