Natsu sighed, the back of his head hitting the back of the stone pillar. God damn was he tired. He and the others basically spent all night talking about the events of last night, not finishing until five in the morning. But then again, he did far more active things than sit and talk all night. He wiggled the map in his hand, staring at the blank brown stained parchment.
"You're leaving Professor?"
"Yes, no one will accept me as a teacher now that everyone know what I am. It is best for me to leave before there is protest."
"That's not true Professor, Harry and I accept you."
"It's not that simple Mr Dragneel. True most students may be denial to this new truth, but it is the parents and the Council that may have an issue with this new discovery. Do not worry, it is not the end. I trust you and your comrades will protect Mr Potter while Dumbledore finds a more than capable replacement. In the meantime, do you still have the Map I gave you?"
"Yeah, though we haven't really used it yet…"
"I'd like you to share it with Harry."
"Hm? Are you sure?"
"Yes. He does have a right to know what happens in these walls. Speaking of, do you ever plan to tell him about you?"
Natsu hummed into a grown and rubbed his eyes with his palm. He did want to tell him, he truly did. But what would happen if he did tell him…
"Ah Natsu, are you not making your way to the hall for food?"
"Hm? Master Makarov, Professor Dumbledore…"
"You look troubled my boy, what ails you?"
Natsu looked at the two older men, before looking down in distress. "Do we have to keep this a secret from Harry and the others for long? I mean, he does have a right to know, but I don't want to put him in jeopardy either…"
Dumbledore and Makarov looked each other, then Dumbledore gave a warm smile at the boy. "Fate has a funny way of revealing itself to the ones who don't seek for its knowledge. It only takes a pull of the string to unravel what is beneath. But it is ultimately up to you if you want to tug on that string." He rambled in deep philosophy, staring into the unknown as he glided forward.
"Professor, are you saying I should tell him?" Natsu whispered. "With the threat bigger than ever, it won't be long until Voldemort rises, secrets will be revealed, death inevitable." Dumbledore turned around, sinking down to Natsu's height, boring into Natsu's eyes. "Remember that the safety of the students is the first priority. Three years have passed since you have arrived, many secrets uncloaked. The deeper you go, the more you will have to risk Mr Dragneel."
Natsu stood by silent, Makarov standing idly with a frown and folded arms.
"In any case, I am quite famished and with the eating habits we've all witnessed you would be hungry as well." Natsu went into a deep red at the call out, and if his embarrassment didn't get bad enough, his stomach growling right on cue. Dumbledore chuckled, moving slightly into the direction of the Great Hall.
"Don't starve yourself it's not healthy." He smiled as he moved away.
Natsu sent his direction to his master as his footsteps followed after Dumbledore. "Master…" Natsu whispered. Makarov stopped in his tracks, and looked at Natsu with that same fatherly smile. "Do what you think is right Natsu. But be aware, Erza may not like it. You know how dedicated she is."
Natsu shivered slightly at that image of Erza towering over him, beating a mace in her hand waiting for it to strike his skull.
"With that said, enjoy your time off. You deserve it."
And with that, Makarov's footsteps clacked away, its echo becoming fainter with each step. Natsu sighed again, folding his arms and leaning on the podium once more.
Footsteps came closer to Natsu again, but he could tell from the smell who it was. He turned his head, Harry heading his way, his mind occupied to the ground. He suddenly stopped with a slight look of realisation on his face and looked up. He met Natsu waiting patiently in the podium's shadow.
"Yo." Natsu saluted with a nonchalant attitude. "Natsu… I…." Harry began, looking down at his feet again. He felt a heavy hand placed on his shoulder. Harry looked up, Natsu responding with his normal smile. "It's fine. Come on let's talk."
The two wandered a bit outside the castle until they reached a clearing on a cliff. They sat down facing the lake, the castle in the distance. Once the two got seated, Natsu pulled out the map and held it in front of Harry.
"Here."
Harry looked surprised before taking the map into his hands. "Professor Lupin asked me to give it to you." Natsu clarified, tucking his knees under his chin and wrapping his hands around his shins. "I see… but why did he give it to you and not directly to me?" Harry asked. "Maybe he wanted to force us to talk." Natsu shrugged.
The two sat in silence once more, Natsu breaking the silence. "Hey, you still have that scarf I gave you on our first Christmas?" He asked bluntly. "H-Huh? Oh yeah, I have it here actually." Harry rummaged through his shoulder bag and pulled out the scarf still in pristine condition. Natsu smiled, sighing in relief.
"Thank goodness. I thought you threw out after our fight."
"I did think about it for a while. But for some reason, I just couldn't." Harry stared at the scarf, the material flowing through the wind. "Hey Natsu, I'm really sorry about the fight. You were right. I was so angry and I wanted to avenge my parents. I should have calmed down and listened…"
Natsu looked at Harry, and smiled as he looked to the sky. "It's fine. I do understand your pain. I'm an orphan too."
Harry looked up, slightly shocked. "You were too?" Natsu nodded, looking down and picking at the grass. "Yeah, didn't you hear Mr Weasley last year? He knew I was raised by a dragon, but you didn't have a reaction. But then again, I did notice you tuning out slightly." Natsu chuckled. Harry blinked, his mind warping at that information. A dragon could be capable of love to humans? But then again, Natsu did seem to jump when Ron mentioned his brother was studying dragons in Romania.
"But yeah. I don't remember my birth parents, and I was taken in by a dragon named Igneel. He became my family. Until one day he disappeared. Even now I don't know where he is. But I found my way and found a new family. And I'm sure you've found your true family here too."
Natsu smiled, Harry still in a bit of a shock. Now he felt horrible, saying that Natsu didn't understand. He basically yelled at someone who was in the same boat as him. "Oh my gosh Natsu I am so sorry!" He groaned, shoving his palms into his face. "I didn't know and I-"
"Hey hey hey Harry chill it's fine, it's all water under the bridge." Natsu panicked, hovering his hands over Harry's shoulder and back. "I know but I feel so horrible…" He muffled. "Harry don't worry. I'm fine." Natsu soothed, Harry peeking from his hands. "Trust me." Natsu smiled.
"...I'm sorry…."
The bell in the distance rang, signalling that Lunch was almost over. "Come on we better go get some food before it runs out." Natsu smiled and stood up with an open palm. Harry stared a bit, and smiled as he took his hand.
"Man I'm starving!" Natsu beamed with the pat of his stomach. The boys had just reached the outskirts of the school with time still to spare for lunch. "Hey Natsu…" Harry whispered as he followed behind his friend.
"Yeah?"
"After talking to you, I think I should trust you more… and that's why I want to tell you I've seen suspicious things going around. Specifically the White Shadows."
Natsu stopped and turned around with a bit of a cold stare. "Huh? White Shadows? Never heard of them…" Natsu muttered. "They're basically white cloaked people that can use magic without wands. Isn't that increible?!" Harry exclaimed. "Huh? That does sound cool!" Natsu smiled. "But why are you telling me this?" He asked, going on the move again. "I want to include you in our investigation." Harry smiled.
Natsu froze slightly, his mind reeling. The string was there, dangling and taunting him. If he decided to to pull the string, Harry might think he deceived him, but on the other hand if he didn't do anything, Harry could scold at him for not telling him anything. So he put on a smile and said the best thing he could think of.
"Sure! I'd be willing to help, but only if needed." He grinned holding his fist out for a bump.
Harry smiled, returning the fist bump. "I'll send you the details by owl during the holidays if I can. If not, I'll tell you next year. Now let's get some food!"
The boys raced to the Hallway, luckily not encountering any staff along the way. They screeched around the corner and stumbled into the hall laughing. "Harry! Natsu! Where were you?" Lucy scolded playfully as she approached them, wrists to her waist. "Soz Lucy got distracted." Natsu smiled, kissing her on the cheek.
Lucy, a little flushed, spluttered into a cough and turned to avoid them seeing her tomato cheeks. "A-Anyway Harry got a parcel this morning." She informed with a puff. "Huh? A package for me?" Harry repeated. "Yeah, over there." Lucy smiled, pointing to the small crowd on one of the tables.
Harry and Natsu looked at each other before moving to the crowd, wondering what it was. "Ah Natsu!" Happy beamed, leaping into Natsu's arms. "Hey bud! What's all this?" He asked with the tilt of his head.
"Harry I'm sorry I didn't mean to open it! It was torn slightly and they made me!" Ron defended as he pointed at his troublesome twin brothers. "No we didn't!" They said in unison. "Anyway take a look!" Gray smiled. Harry looked at everyone, and opened the soft brown paper, and in its full pristine form was a new broom.
"It's a Firebolt the fastest broom in the world!" Seamus marvled. "Eh really?! The fastest in the world?!" Natsu gasped, grasping on Happy a bit tighter. "F-For me…? Who sent it?" Harry asked, looking around as the smiling faces. "No one knows. It also came with this." Hermione held up a silver quill, Harry accepting it in his hands. Before he could say another word, a thud came from across the table.
"Hey Harry, let's have a race! Me and Happy against you and your new broom!"
"Get off my head firebreath!"
"Shut up!"
Harry only smiled, and nodded in determination. "Alright, you're on."
Everyone ran to the courtyard, Harry hastily mounting the broom as he wanted to test his new toy. He pushed his legs off the ground, the broom zooming left and right as Harry tried to cling onto it for dear life. After a few minutes, he managed to stabilise the broom and looked down at the cheering children below.
"Harry you ready now?" Seamus called out, Harry nodding. "Hehe…" Natsu flew up next to Harry, scanning the sky. "Ok from that mountain and back! Ready?!"
"You know it."
Both boys and Happy prepared themselves, Seamus clearing his throat and called into the air.
"Three! Two! One! Go!"
Both boys zoomed off into the sky, screaming and laughing as they flew into the distance.
"Man, they're both fast…" Lucy awed, shielding her eyes from the sun. "Well the Firebolt is the fastest broom and Happy has Aera…" Gray mumbled in return. "Oh they having a race?"
"Gajeel didn't see you there." Lucy smiled. "Yo." Gray greeted, Gajeel mumbling in return. "I heard Harry got the new Firebolt. That's pretty fast. But racing against Happy…" Gajeel whispered. Silence for a bit, excluding all the cheering students. "Wait, Potter does know when to stop the broom right?" Everyone snapped shut and gasped at Gajeel's point.
"E-Eh? W-What do you mean…?" Lucy quiverd, praying he wasn't going where she thought he was going. "New broom and it's the fastest so the break time will be different…. Right?"
Everyone slowly looked to where the boys had just flew off too. Lucy slowly pulled out her wand, a hand on Virgo's key.
"J-Just in case…"
