A/N: Hey all! Coming at you with an out of nowhere Gaiden and another submission from a fellow author. This time Chaosblazer sends his piece. This one being a two-parter.

Just a few things: This is set post-Dawn of Chaos but before Neos United, and The West Coasters.

I'd venture to say early-2010 in YYGDM-01's timeline.

Some tidbits to keep in mind: certain details (such as Shaina & Lance being a possible couple, and Richard's loss to Larry) are carryovers from my Summer Diaries: Special Edition. I would highly recommend reading the chapter titled Lance, which is a chapter revolving mostly on dueling. In addition, Ken's relation to Karin/Sedna is revealed in Chaos' Accel Stream Season 2 fic (meaning yes, Kensuke's former incarnation was a brother to Princess Sedna and hails from the Planet Sedna; once their world got destroyed, the Kuipers and he were later reincarnated, but just like Karin, Kensuke was reincarnated in a different dimension as a means to protect him from not just Sailor Charon/Chaos but also himself).

Likewise, this two-parter will focus on Duel Monster dueling. While dueling isn't highly prioritized in this series anymore, that doesn't mean our characters can't duel at all. It's mostly off screen. But since Chaos has been inching to send me a Gaiden submission, I decided to let him have his turn.

Without further ado, on with the story!

Chaosblazer's A/N: This takes place during the epilogue of Accel Stream Season 2, and before D-Reaper's Fury.

Dueling Evolution: The XYZ Story, Part I of II

"Man I can't believe how awesome some of these cards are!" Tike yelled jubilantly as he and David purchased various packs of Duel Monster cards, and opened them after buying them.

"Make sure you two don't leave your trash on the ground." Kara lightly scolded the two. Unlike them, she wasn't opening her packs right away.

Nearby, Tai (DF-616) sighed at their behavior. "I'm glad Kasumi's dad is covering this, but I hope he knows what he's getting into." He wondered as Ken opened two packs he seemed drawn to.

Ken became elated scoring some cards depicting dragons.

A new Accel Synchro monster! Yusei would love this, and Clear Wing Synchro Dragon? Nice. He thought before turning to Tai. "So, what's the deal? Do they even sell Duel Monster cards in your world."

Tai nodded. "They do. It's just that with all the constant chaos, there's been delays so to speak on cards getting released. We're still only up to the "GX" era as some call it."

Ken replied. "I see. That makes sense."

Takato walked up behind Ken holding an XYZ monster with a nasty looking dinosaur on it. The card's was identified as No.61: Volcasaurus.

"Man these Synchro and XYZ cards are amazing! Too bad we're only allowed to take the XYZ's back with us."

Tai was confused by this. "How come?"

Ken answered. "Because of the meeting Pegasus and Miss Lyn are having with the creator guy."

"This is amazing! Look at all these card designs!" Lyn was in awe as she and Pegasus were led on a tour around the facilities.

The one handling this tour was none other than the creator of the Yu-Gi-Oh franchise himself, who needless to say was more than surprised to be guiding one of his creations around the place, Pegasus, but Lyn also intrigued him since she greatly resembled Kisara.

"I'm glad you two are enjoying yourselves. Mr. Shika sure surprised me. To think I'd be meeting a character I created, as well as one who resembles another."

Flushing, Lyn rubbed her head. "I'm not so sure if I'm related to this Kisara girl, but that's besides the point..." She neglected to tell him about her brief adventure into ancient Egypt and her run-in with her past incarnation Kisara while she and her friends pursued Professor Frank. "Anyway, what can you tell us about the XYZ monsters?"

The Creator was surprised to hear this. "You know about them? Do you know about Synchro types as well?"

Pegasus nodded. "Yes, some friends of Yugi-boy came back from the future with them. However, I'd prefer to not print them yet. I'd rather just focus on the XYZ monsters because printing Synchro could mire our timeline more than it possible has been."

The Creator nodded again. "Very well. The lore of XYZ monsters is that they are created via anti-matter and traveled through a black hole to be with duelists. They possess ranks and not levels, making them unique, but the number cards are the most unique."

Lyn nodded and jotted down notes. "Go on."

"There are one hundred number cards, and even more over one hundred, they are the most unique as their memories have been lost to them. In the anime we have going, we've shown they cannot be destroyed except by battle with another number, but in the real game, they can be destroyed by anything."

Pegasus looked thoughtful for a moment at this. "Interesting, is there anything else we should know?"

The Creator shook his head and handed them two large pamphlets. "No that's about it. These contain data on all current Synchro and XYZ monster cards to date. As well as some updates to the rules of the game."

Lyn asked with intrigue. "Updates?"

"Yes, for starters whoever goes first now does not draw a card on their first turn. Also both players may now have a field spell in play."

"That is interesting indeed." Lyn smirked, taking the books.

Pegasus shook the Creator's hand. "Thank you for your time, Mr..."

With that, they left the room.

Once they closed the doors, he shook his head and sighed deeply. "I completely forgot to tell them about the Pendulum monsters."

Present Day/Card Shop/XLR-08

"It's amazing how they're working to get those cards integrated into the game," Mai said as she and Yugi walked up with new cards. "Felt so drawn to these." In her hand, she showed off an XYZ card called Harpie's Pet Phantasmal Dragon.

Yugi had four cards. Two of them were XYZ magicians, Legendary Magician of Dark and Magi Magi Magician Girl;the other two were warrior effect monsters, Phoenix Gearfried and Lightray Gearfried.

Jeri approached with an XYZ monster as well. It was No. 54: Lionheart.

Finally, Chazz, who had come with them as well, approached but he wasn't happy. "More Ojamas. Just what I needed." He groaned the spirits of Ojama Red and Ojama Blue floated around his head.

'I'll pump you full of lead, boy!' Red threatened. but Blue calmed him down.

'Easy there, sugar! The fact he can see us means he's special.'

Chazz merely grunted and sighed.

"Think of it this way Chazz. With their field spell, you can really do some damage." Takato said trying to look on the bright side of things.

"Perhaps, after all with that new double field rule, if Jaden plays Fusion Gate, I can use it to fuse my Ojama's and..." He got cut off when he heard a noise from outside. "What's going on?!"

Ken, Tike, and David had gone out to get food. Everyone saw that Ken had apparently gotten an ice cream cone, but Tike knocked it out of his hands by bumping into him.

"Pick that up, eat it, then pay for it!" Ken threatened.

"No way it was an...!" He stopped when Ken's aura flared for a moment. "I'll buy you as many as you want but I'm not eating that one...geez!" He said somewhat scared.

Back inside, Jeri looked at the cards Yugi had.

"Are you going to use all of those Yugi?"

Yugi replied kindly. "Actually these two I plan to give to Joey." He pointed to the Gearfried cards and showed them to Jeri.

Chazz smirked. "Those will definitely strengthen his deck."

Takato turned to Kasumi, who stood nearby. "It was nice of your dad to pick up the tab for this. He doesn't mind?"

"It's his way of apologizing for recent actions of his towards the Digimon. Besides even he was floored at the prospect of there being other worlds." Kasumi answered as Mai stared at a display case.

Within this display case was several versions of the Blue-Eyes White Dragon.

"I can't believe this thing is so easy to get in this world! In our world, it's so rare. I can only imagine what Kaiba would..."

Ken entered at that moment with a new ice cream cone in one hand and Tike's head locked in the other.

"Don't tell him about it. Knowing how he is, he'll come over here, and try his hardest to nuke everything. And I really don't want to have to stop him." Ken insisted while letting go of Tike.

"It's still kind of unfair those three can take them to their world, but we can't." Chazz said, noticing Tike, Kara, and David with their gleaming Blue-Eyes cards.

Ken shrugged. "Kaiba doesn't exist in their world. So, they have free reign to do so. But, since he exists in your world, bringing any outside Blue-Eyes back could cause problems."

Yugi concurred. "I agree."

Tai, however, was confused about one point. "Wait a second though, didn't Pegasus say he wasn't going to print the Synchros, yet don't you have some Ken?"

Ken answered plainly. "The ones I have don't get used by the Signers in the future, and as long as I don't use them for official duels it's ok."

15 minutes later, the shopping ordeal came to end. After bidding the groups farewell, Ken returned to the Digital World and Kasumi went home with Lunamon.

One Week Later/KaibaCorp/April 11, 2010/YYGDM-01

"They sure as hell got this up fast." Ken noted as he entered with his sister Karin Osaka, his niece Athena, Athena's partner PinkPatamon, and his girlfriend Christina Denton.

"Yeah, well Lyn was so hyped she wanted it done quickly," Karin added. They're going to have some exhibition duels to get the XYZ monsters known world wide."

"I don't understand why they picked me. Yes, I was exposed to them first, but still I'm not good at dueling in front of people." Ken replied, exhibiting his modest side.

"Don't worry so much! You'll do fine!" Christina said grabbing his arm, causing him to blush a bit.

"If you insist, who else is dueling?"

They headed to the upper floors for the duels. Upon arriving, he saw most of the Digiteams and Duelists were present. Surprisingly, Leo and Luna were there, slightly older from their previous visit almost one year removed from the Dawn of Chaos events.

Gawking at the twins, Ken asked in befuddlement. "What are they doing here?"

"We were invited!" Luna smiled.

Leo added. "Usa brought us and Yusei back to check out these monsters."

Ken palmed his head with his free arm. Doesn't want to print the Synchro types, but doesn't mind showing their successors to the future people... the bloody hell Pegasus?!

Karin sighed at his frustration. "Oh, Ken."

(Cue Yu-Gi-Oh! 5Ds OST – Strategy Conference)

"So you're dueling, too?" Rika asked as she and Takato walked up to Ken. They were the only ones who seemed ready to go.

"Who are our opponents?" Ken asked as Aster Phoenix heard him.

"The Grandras, a family of dueling experts. The youngest, George, uses warriors like me and Jaden, the second oldest, Shaina, uses a water style deck based around clearing the field, and the oldest, Richard, uses a dragon deck. Richard beat Kaiba once."

Upon hearing of Richard's biggest feat, this greatly intrigued Ken.

"Really now? He beat him?"

Joey interjected at this point. "Yeah, spooked rich boy into an early retirement, but then again I've heard Richard's been on a losing streak recently. Ever since losing in a tournament a while back to a friend of ours named Larry Stonebagel."

Ken wanted to ask more, but Lyn arrived to get the festivities going for all those in attendance.

"Where's Kaiba?" Yugi asked.

Lyn replied to the King of Games. "He's busy at the moment, Yugi." She walked past him and was handed a microphone. She entered the dueling arena.

At the same time Lyn entered, a boy and a girl were recognized by the Digiteams and Duelists. Ken heard their names and turned to the Grandra siblings. However, conspicuous by his absence was Richard.

"That's them?" Ken asked Takato.

"Yeah, but I don't see their older brother."

Lyn held the mike close and announced. "Ladies and gentlemen! To all those who could make it today, this marks a new dawn for the era of Duel Monsters! Not only will we be introducing a new type of monster through our three exhibition duels, but we also have some new rules to showcase as well. This will not be a best of three duels, as we intend to showcase our new monsters with pride! The matches are as follows: Rika Nonaka vs Shaina Grandra!"

The two girls glanced at each other.

Shaina acknowledged Rika. "This should be good. I heard Mako declared you the top ocean duelist. Well, you'll have to beat me first!"

Rika shot right back. "I didn't ask for his title, but hey if you want a fight you've got one!"

"Match two will be Takato Matsuda vs George Grandra."

"Good luck, bearer of the phoenix!" George said in a sporting manner.

Takato rubbed his head. "Same to you." He replied.

"Finally, Kensuke Rainer vs Richard Grandra."

Ken palmed his head. "Of course, me against the toughest one, but where is he!?"

With an exasperated sigh, Shaina quickly answered him. "Our brother needs extra time to prepare, but you don't seem all that tough. What was Kaiba thinking placing our brother against a nobody?"

Upon hearing the girl's remark, Ken's aura was ready to flare up, but Karin and Athena quickly calmed him.

"Don't let her get to you, Uncle Ken." Athena pleaded kindly to him.

Ken relaxed as his niece reached him. "I intend to let my cards speak for me today not my fists."

"All right, let the first match commence! As for the new rules, whoever goes first no longer draws on their first turn. Secondly, both players may have a field spell in play at the same time. Begin when you are ready!"

As Lyn stepped away, Rika and Shauna took the field and handed each other their decks to be shuffled.

"You should've stuck to the Digimon card game cause I'm the ocean queen here!" Shaina said smirking.

Rika's grin was equally devious. "I said it before, I didn't ask for Mako's title, but if you want to go all out, bring it on! I'll take what you can dish out and then some."

They stepped back to the opposite ends of the duel field and initiated their duel right away. The Digiteams and Duelists cheered Rika on to victory.

"There it's done!" Yusei announced, spinning his chair around to face Seto Kaiba. "Now any time a new card comes into existence, your Satellite system will be able to read and document it."

Kaiba nodded with a cool smile. "Thank you for your help, Yusei. This will enable implementing newer cards into our system much easier."

"You should thank Usa. She wanted us to find out about the new XYZ cards so we could take the information back to the others in our time."

"Speaking of which Seto, isn't it time for the duels to start?" Mokuba asked.

"Yeah, Rika Nonaka and Shaina Grandra's duel is first. Let's go."

As they walked, Pegasus, who was with them, sighed. "By the way Kaiba boy, did you really put Kenny boy up against Richard? Are you sure that's a good idea?" His query earned him a cold grin from Kaiba. "Oh dear, you haven't changed, Kaiba boy."

"You almost have her, Rika!" Jeri encouraged her.

"Not too often she uses that Shark Drake card," Takuya noted.

"Gotta hand it to Rika. She can definitely hang with the best of 'em!" Joey said.

Renamon intently eyed Rika and waited for her to make the next move.

"Got that right! Attack her!" Shark Drake unleashed a powerful energy blast at Shaina that knocked her off her feet.

Surprisingly someone quickly caught her, but the duel was over.

"Well, look who it is? hey Lance." Rika addressed the newcomer that saved Shaina.

Shaina's lifepoints went down to zero.

"Lance?" Ken wondered as George sighed at his sister's defeat.

"Lance Canebrook. He was the one Pharaohmon took control over a long time ago," Himura said from nearby.

Intrigued, Ken almost wanted to meet with Lance, but let it go when Rika confronted Lance.

"Nice to see you, too, Rika. Still going strong, I take it." Lance acknowledged the Digimon Queen. He turned and helped Shaina to her feet.

"I didn't need your help, but thanks..." Shaina blushed. She walked over to Rika and extended her hand. "You may have beaten me today, but mark my words this isn't over. As of now you're my rival, Rika Nonaka."

Rika took her word for it and shook Shaina's hand. "Anytime, anywhere."

The crowd cheered for their good sportsmanship.

Shortly after, George and Takato took the field as Lance confronted Ken.

"Heard about you. You're the guy they say dueled Yugi and could've beaten him."

Ken sighed as they shook hands. "I wish people wouldn't bring that up." He muttered as he noticed his spirit partner, Rainbow Kuriboh, was floating nervously around. "What now?"

Lance was confused. "Who are you talking too?"

Ken noticed that Rainbow Kuriboh was being glared at by Yugi's normal Kuriboh and Jaden's Winged Kuriboh.

And the reason? Luna's Kuribon seemed to be glancing at Rainbow Kuriboh with a blushing face.

Not a good time for a Kuriboh brawl. Ken thought as the duel on the field began.

Private Room/KaibaCorp/YYGDM-01

Richard continued to look over his deck repeatedly. What's wrong with me?! Ever since that duel with Larry, I've...begun to lose a lot more than I should! It doesn't make any sense! My monsters are strong! My strategies are full proof, so why!?

"Even the best of strategies can falter over time. Someone as skilled as you should realize this."

Looking up immediately, Richard found himself face to face with a blond-haired woman dressed in attire befitting that of a hooker.

"Who are you and how did you get past security? This is a private room!"

The woman gigged in a seductive manner as she approached him. His body suddenly went limp as she intently peered into his eyes.

"You want to win? More than anything in the world?" She sat on Richard's lap and tempted him by caressing his face.

As she leaned over, she gave him a full view of her bust, which got his attention. As he looked into her alluring green eyes, Richard's eyes became glazed over for a moment.

"Yes... that is my desire," he replied mindlessly and devoid of free will.

The woman then took out a spell card from her pocket and slipped it into his deck.

"Then take this and when the time comes, use it!" She requested before turning and walking out.

When she left, Richard finally came to. "What... what just happened?!" He held his head as if awoken from a daze.

"Wow, George's good with those! I didn't even know those heroes existed! Heck, Terra Firma looks like an earthen version of Neos!" Jaden called out excitedly, embarrassing his friends at the same time for his lack of knowing of the cards.

"C'mon, seriously, Jay?" Syrus sweatdropped.

"He might be older, but he's still the same dweeb as we all know," Chazz remarked.

Well, he only used those cards in the manga. It's no wonder that this anime version of Jaden doesn't know about them. Still ,Takato took too long. Ken thought before he heard a cracking noise.

Looking up, Rainbow Kuriboh looked like it had been in a bar fight. Rainbow Kuriboh was holding a broken base ball bat and breathing hard. Yugi and Jaden's Kuribohs hit the ground unconscious. However, Yugi and Jaden were too deeply invested in the duel to notice these happenings. But, Ken did not as Rainbow Kuriboh retreated back to him with a "Please don't make me hurt anyone else" look etched on his face.

"Yo, Takato! Heads up!" Kazu warned him.

"Takato, you dummy! You left yourself open!" Rika chastised.

Takato was confused. "Why? Our monsters have the same attack points so I'll survive if he attacks."

"No, you don't get it...!" However, Kenta failed to get through to his pal.

George smirked. "Sorry to say this Takato, but that's not what's going to happen. You see when Absolute Zero leaves the field, your monsters go as well, and my Terra Firma can take one of my other heroes and absorb it's strength!"

Takato gaped when he saw Terra Firm absorb Absolute Zero. As this happened, Volcasaurus was destroyed.

"Oh no, Takato lost?!" Guilmon gaped in shock.

"What do ya expect? He just upgraded his deck like not too long ago?" Terriermon shrugged. "Just needs a fine tune-up and he'll be back to kicking duelist butt!"

Henry cringed. "Oh, that's gotta sting."

"Man, that wasn't good!" Takuya yelled from the crowd.

"Yeah, talk about a bummer for Takato," Izumi sighed.

"He should've used his monsters effect when he summoned it to destroy Terra Firma then! Oh boy, is he getting training when this is over!" Rika declared with fire burning in her eyes.

Picking himself from the floor, Takato faced his opponent. "You got me, George. That's a nice deck you got there."

George smirked and replied. "Your fire deck is good, too. How come you didn't use Suzaku?"

Takato rubbed his head. "Can't always rely on it during duels. Let's just say I need it for something else." He simply grinned it off and turned to the cheers of the crowd.

As Takato and George stepped off to lively cheers, Lyn took the field.

"We will have a ten minute reprieve before the final duel! So everyone rest up the best is yet to come."

(End theme)

Walking out to get some fresh air, Ken groaned and muttered. "Don't overhype me." Before long, he suddenly felt himself being pulled into the wall behind him. One blinding flash of light later, a tablet appeared before him. Upon it was a dragon monster, one that he recognized. "Your freaking kidding me?!" The tablet broke to reveal a card which flew into his deck.

Another flash and he found himself back in the vicinity.

"The hell was that about?!" Ken wondered, but before he could discern what he just saw Karin and Christina walked over.

"Brother, there you are! Hey, Vivian and Miho are here. They want to meet you. C'mon!"

Ken was so disoriented from the light flash he forgot what was going on for a moment.

"Give me a second... never mind." He found himself being dragged off by the two.

"Man! These duels are intense. What do you guys think?" Jaden asked Yugi and Yusei.

The trio decided to go to the restrooms like others were.

"We're off to a good start," Yugi concurred.

"I agree. The XYZ monsters were impressive before, but these new ones are just as intense," Yusei added. "Too bad Takato didn't use his correctly though."

"He was so excited to summon it because it reminds him of his partner that..." Yugi stopped when three familiar figures blocked their path. "YOU THREE!"

"Glad to see you remember us you scum," one of the figures openly addressed Yugi, chuckling.

Jaden and Yusei also took defensive stances.

Standing before them were the former Paradais Knights: Grapplo, Zealoss, and Dragoon.

Chaosblazer's A/N: The bit at the beginning with the (DF)Kai characters ties into D-Reapers Fury, if you recall Tike mentioned getting cards in Ken's world, this is when that happened, you may also noticed Ken mentioned this event during the AS Season 2 epilogue, yep here it is.

Pegasus and Lyn meet the big guy (yes, Kazuki Takahashi) himself. However, Pegasus doesn't want to print Synchro Monsters despite them coming first before XYZ's. This is because in the YYDGM-01 timeline, 5D's takes place in the future and printing most of the Synchro cards could mire the timeline. XYZ's, however, are an outside force (considering Zexal was not apart of the first three series), so it's ok for them to be printed. FTR, Ken will be using a few Synchro, but they are ones used in Arc-V and won't use them in sanctioned duels.

Don't expect Pendulums to be used because me and Kanius agreed that we can't use everything from Yu-Gi-Oh, and I find Pendulum's a bit extreme compared to the other methods.

The Grandras were selected to be Ken and Co's opponents due to them being well known as a triad. Of course, the score is 1-1 so far. Ken vs Richard is up next.

If you can figure out who the mystery woman was that slipped an unknown card into Richard's deck, feel free to guess (and NO, it's not Charon or any of her incarnations). Of course, Ken's gotten an equalizer so to speak, and now he's going to meet the two Kuipers he hasn't met yet.

Finally the ex-Paradais trio return. What do they want? Well that's for next time.

Back to Kanius, until next time peace out readers.

My A/N: There you have it. The first part of Chaos' Gaiden story. And by the way, the mystery woman is someone who's appeared in the YYGDM story (you only get one guess: she appeared in Wrath of Pharaohmon Redux). Rest assured she's human and not an evil force or anything in disguise.

As for how Rika got a number card, she got it during Chaos' Accel Stream Season 2 fic. Shark Drake fell into YYGDM-01 and possessed Mako. Mako challenged Rika to a duel, lost, and Rika somehow ended up taming the shark; one again, Rika shows why she's the best at what she does: taming. This makes Rika the first duelist in YYGDM to possess a Zexal-era (XYZ/Number) card.

Since I've decided to make Zexal (and Arc-V) separate dimensions like Xros Wars, that's not to stop me (or Chaos) from implementing XYZ cards in YYGDM's dimension, whose technology has augmented years ahead of the mainstream YGO: Duel Monster universe (and influence from the Digital & Virtual Worlds can do that). The YYGDM dimension is a unique world in its own right. Hope that clears things up.

Yeah, only a certain number of duelists will be using XYZ and Number cards. Rika was the first, but as you can see a select few are bringing some from Ken's world. Meanwhile, Kaiba has secretly been making his own XYZ's and his tech has now been augmented to support the new card types.

And surprise, Lance is here! Yeah, there could be a thing between him and Shaina. We'll see. I'll leave speculation to you.

The next part should come out shortly this month. Chaos will be working quickly to get out as soon as possible. What to expect: Yugi, Yusei, and Jaden' face-off with the escaped Paradais Knights, gee I wonder who freed them? And the Kensuke/Richard duel. Additionally, Ken meeting the remaining two Kuipers he's yet to meet: Vivian Wong and Miho Nosaka. Anything else? You'll have to wait.

Until then, send a review and stay cool.
