"Lucy... just where are you...?"
It had been a day since talking with Tohru, the Sohmas and Fairy Tail and Hikaru, Kaoru and Haruhi were heading to the school Tohru, Yuki and Kyo attended because they had to deliver a large envelope to Shigure from Kyoya. The envelope was filled to the brim with paper and resembled envelopes that Shigure would place his manuscripts in. Though they didn't know what the contents were since Kyoya had specifically told them that it was for Shigure's eyes only.
Haruhi could care less about what was inside. What was annoying her at the moment was the fact that their method of transportation is through a helicopter, much to her undeniable displeasure. But she did wonder just what Kyoya wanted them to deliver to Shigure so badly that they had to get there quickly as possible that he made them go on a freaking helicopter just to get there in a few hours.
It would be wrong to say that they were going there to just deliver the package. In truth, ever since hearing about Aya from Levy, the hosts grew curious about the girl. She's the closest thing to a hint as anything they've received in the last 6 months and they wanted to meet her. They were hoping to meet her before delivering the package to Shigure and maybe ask her if she knows Lucy and knows where Akito is hiding her.
"Hey Kaoru... are we almost there yet?" Haruhi asked. "I don't know if my butt can stand sitting for another hour."
Kaoru looked down at the GPS he was holding, swiping a few times to see the distance between their current position and the landing point. Then, he nodded to himself before looking at Haruhi with a reassuring smile. "Yeah, we'll be landing in a few minutes. Isn't that great Hikaru?"
The twin in question, however, was deep in thought. Looking out the window, undeniably worrying about Lucy. His seriousness and worry evident on the expression he wore.
"Hikaru?" Haruhi called, but still no reply.
"Hikaru!?" Kaoru shouted in his ear, finally catching his attention.
"Waah!?" He shouted, jumping slightly off his seat, chuckles escaping from Kaoru and Haruhi's mouth. "Gheez, what was that for?"
"That's for spacing out when we've been calling your name a couple of times." Haruhi said, an amused look on her face.
"You were thinking about Lucy again, weren't you?" Kaoru guessed in a teasing tone, earning a huff from Hikaru as he crossed his arms.
"Yeah, so what? She's been missing for 6 months, of course I'm worrying about her!" Hikaru defended, a blush creeping up his cheeks.
"So... you really do like her, don't you?" Haruhi asked, her eyebrows wiggling as Hikaru's blush intensified. "I knew you and Lucy were close but I didn't know you guys were that close."
"Wha-!? What are you talking about, Haruhi!?"
"Oh~! I get it now!" Kaoru exclaimed. "No wonder you were so angry when you found out Lucy was taken. I knew that moment in the classroom wasn't nothing."
"Oh come on, not this again..."
"Hikaru, if you like Lucy so much, why don't you just say so?" Haruhi asked, resting her head on her palms as her elbows rested on her knees.
"Oh come on guys, even if I did like Lucy, look at her!" Hikaru said, a defeated look on his face. "She's a princess and not only that, she's a tough mage from Fiore! I'm nothing special compared to that."
"Hikaru..." Kaoru said in a low voice, not liking to see his brother so dejected.
Haruhi looked out the window and saw that the pilot had began to descend, meaning they had arrived to their destination. "Regardless of what you think Hikaru, I think what really matters is what Lucy sees in you rather than calling yourself not special." She said. "And we won't find out unless we find her, so let's go... okay?"
Hikaru looked up and nodded, the 3 hosts unbuckling their seat belts and getting off the helicopter with ease. Though, Haruhi could tell that there would be an uproar. One reason being that there were 2 handsome twins and herself going to the school, especially since she had a feeling that everyone would assume she's a boy, and the fact they were wearing Ouran academy uniforms. Then, they began to make their way to where Tohru was, the GPS guiding them to the school.
Aya sighed as she was walking around the school corridors during class break. For the last 3 days, she had been trying to avoid all the Sohmas that were present in the school. She had just recently found out on her second day that there were 2 other Sohmas at the school she attended, other than the 2 in her class, though were younger than her. Even feeling their presence bothered her, but for some reason... in a good way.
Why? She didn't know. She hated the thought that she was in the vicinity of Akito's family, it made her feel that they were just watching her for Akito, making sure that she doesn't try to run away from his hold. They even had the audacity to try and act as if they had not known that she was kept captive in that god forsaken house, especially when Akito would yell and abuse her whenever she even uttered a sound.
Yes, Akito would abuse her and that is why she constantly has bandages on her body. It was all because Akito claims that she is a danger to his family, that he's doing all this because he's keeping his family together. But she didn't even remember why she was such a danger. Heck, she couldn't even recall much of her past, only hazy images. As such, Aya refused to associate herself with any Sohma.
But, how was it she could sense where every Sohma in the school was? It made no sense. It was as if a force is pulling them to her, or even vice-versa. But why? Was it some sort of 6th sense? But why only the Sohmas? She always felt Akito's aura and presence, it made her hostile and scared. But the Sohmas at school? They made her calm, almost comforting that they were close. It made no sense.
All of a sudden, she could hear students fill the corridors and she could hear fangirl screams too, much to her dismay. She decided to go check it out and began to make her way to the source of the sound. It was too late for her to realize that the source was also making its way towards her. So when Aya came face to face with Hikaru, Kaoru and Haruhi, she didn't realize she had stood froze with her eyes wide.
"Oh my gosh! Look at them!" Female students shouted from their classes.
"They're wearing uniforms from Ouran Academy!" A male student noted.
"Ouran? Why are rich people here at our school?" Another male asked.
"I knew we should've come in our casual clothes." Haruhi sighed, holding the envelope, looking through classes for Tohru, Yuki and Kyo.
"So this is a commoners high school." Kaoru said, looking at literally every little thing around his.
"The exterior was so basic and plain looking, but inside is super simple and easy to navigate, smart thinking." Hikaru added.
Aya didn't understand, but hearing the 3 hosts' voices... it triggered something in her head. But yet, she stayed still. Watching as they got closer and closer to her frozen form. When the 3 hosts finally looked in front of them, they were surprised to see the pink haired girl in front of them, staring at them with an unreadable expression. But just by the sight of her pink hair, they knew that this was the Aya that Levy mentioned.
They all stared at one another for what felt like an eternity. The students all whispering as to why the hosts would look at Aya with curiosity sparking in their eyes. They were analyzing each other, the hosts for obvious reasons but for Aya? She felt a sense of familiarity and she had no idea why. It was as if her body didn't want to turn away, as if she had been waiting for them. Yet, she had no idea who they were.
'Lucy... tell me why...? Why... do I feel this way?'
Haruhi was the first to break out of the trance, then Kaoru, then Hikaru. They shook their heads and looked at Aya, tilting their heads and raising a brow questioningly. The girl had not spoken a word and her body had yet to move. There was clearly something strange going on in her head. What exactly was another matter. Hikaru then moved forward to her frozen body and waved his hand in front of her face, trying to get her to snap out of it.
"Sorry but, you wouldn't happen to know where-"
"Hikaru." Aya suddenly said softly enough for only the hosts to hear as she cut Hikaru off.
Hikaru, Kaoru and Haruhi's widened. There was no way Aya could have known Hikaru's name, especially since they know Tohru never brought it up or she would've informed them of such. But regardless, they had literally just met a minute ago. They hadn't even introduced themselves yet, but somehow Aya knew Hikaru's name. Nothing added up. Not for the hosts, not for Aya.
Hikaru stared at the girl as she had yet to comprehend what just happened and for a split second, the Hitachiin twin could have sworn her eyes changed to a darker colour. But it was too quick for him to be sure. But the longer he stared, the longer he felt a pull, familiarity, towards the girl in front of him. From the way she looked to the way she said his name. It all looked and sounded familiar. Too familiar. Almost like when he's with...
"Lucy?" He asked in a low voice.
Before the girl could react, Tohru had called out to the 3 hosts. "Oh! Haruhi!? You're here! Hikaru and Kaoru too!?" The brunette ran up to her cousin and twins but when she saw Aya, her face showed confusion. So did Yuki's and Kyo.
"Ms. Lilith, are you alri-"
It was when Yuki addressed her that she snapped out of her trance and her face became pale. "I... excuse me please." She said before running away.
"Wait, hold on a moment!" Kaoru called.
"Aya!?" Tohru also called.
Aya ran all the way to the rooftop, surprised at herself for knowing the boy's name. Even after running away in shock, she had no doubt in her mind that that was the name of the boy in front of her. Yet she had no idea why. But when he called her Lucy, she felt her head hurt. Almost like something was trying to break out of a tightly taped box. Attempting to rip the top in half... and it hurt like hell.
She leaned against the door and slid down to a sitting position. She was panting, tired from basically sprinting to the rooftop from the first floor. She was scared. She was scared that because of this incident, Akito would lock her up again. The deal was that he allow her to go to school, live like a normal teen, but she had to swear that she would never run away or attempt to escape her prison. That way, the Sohmas would remain bound to him forever.
'Why did I know his name? Why did he call me Lucy? Did he know her? Does that mean... the other 2 with him... knew her too?'
The pink haired girl didn't know what to do. She had no idea if she should trust the 3 newcomers, but seeing as how Tohru knows them, that would most likely mean that the 2 Sohmas that are normally with her also know them. And from the looks of it, they're friends too. Aya wanted to stay away. She finally got her freedom and would soon have the chance for revenge... but now she was second guessing herself.
'If they all knew Lucy... would that mean... everything Akito said was a lie?'
Back at the first level of the school, Hikaru, Kaoru and Haruhi were explaining what had happened before they arrived. From when they had the stare down with Aya to just right before she ran away. Momiji and Haru had also joined them, hearing the commotion and was surprised to see the 3 hosts at their school. Haru commenting about how it made sense now as to why the girls were going crazy in class.
"Wait what!?" Kyo asked shocked. "Run that by me again."
"You're saying that Ms. Lilith called you by name before you could even introduce yourself?" Yuki added.
Hikaru nodded, leaning against the wall with his arms crossed. "It was literally out of nowhere... but the way she looked and the way she said my name... it reminded me too much... of Lucy."
"You're saying that Aya is Lucy in disguise!?" Momiji asked.
"I'm not sure about that yet!" Hikaru said. "I just... had a feeling you know? Didn't any of you notice that before she starts.. malfunctioning I guess I'd call it, she had a similar aura like Lucy?"
Kaoru and Haruhi took a moment and thought back to their little stare down. Hikaru wasn't the only one to catch her little eye colour switch. Both too had seen the change and they also sensed the familiarity despite never meeting Aya prior to coming to the high school. They began to understand what Hikaru was saying and they knew where he was getting at by that point.
"Now that you mention it... she did seem familiar..." Kaoru said.
"Especially since her eye colour changed out of nowhere, it almost looked like Lucy's eyes." Haruhi added.
"Her eye changed colour?" Haru asked.
"I thought I was the only one who noticed." Hikaru said, glad that he wasn't going crazy like he had initially thought. "While I was looking at her in shock after calling my name... her eyes switched to Lucy's dark brown colour. But it was only for a split second."
"So let's just say that Aya is really Lucy...how come she hasn't said anything to us?" Tohru questioned. "And why did she seem so genuine when expressing her hate to Yuki?"
"Right now, everything we are saying is just a mere hypothesis." Yuki said. "We won't know it's Lucy for sure unless she somehow achieves something only Lucy can..."
"There's no way we can ask Tamaki-senpai for her gate keys, it'll only bring him temporary hope when everything we're suggesting is crazy to begin with." Haruhi explained.
"She's right. The boss would probably scare her off knowing his personality." Kaoru said. "And seeing as how Aya is pretty unstable, it would only make matters worse."
"Well, if not her gate keys... then what?" Kyo asked for everyone.
They all stayed silent. Thinking of how to confirm that Aya may be Lucy as a possibility in a subtle way. Asking up front was definitely out of the question and somehow getting to talk about her past can be easily avoided. The plan had to be fool proof and something that Aya would never expect when confronted with the plan. It was then that Tohru began to reminisce about her time with Lucy at the Host club.
From when they would eat cake together, prepare tea, help each other with homework, talk about Fiore, Lucy showing off her magic, meeting Mira and the others, going to the beach, the encounter with Nakago and Soi, learning about Fairy Tail's betrayal to her, asking her about Yuki and Kyo's curse, Lucy asking the book why the curse wasn't effective when it comes to her, the book telling them how to break it...
"That's it!" Tohru shouted, startling everyone.
"What's it, Tohru?" Haruhi asked, her hand settled against her heart.
"I know how to see if Aya may be Lucy!" Tohru said, a smile forming on everyone else's faces.
Natsu and Happy went inside the guild's archive room. He wanted to check on the girls' progress but no one was in there. But every book they opened and the notes they took were everywhere, sprawled throughout the entirety of the room. The book still open to show the vision playing on loop and the weird jumble of letters that was once Lucy's name still unsolved.
"Guess they must've went out for a break, huh Natsu?" Happy asked.
"Yeah. Looks like they didn't make much progress from yesterday though." Natsu replied. "If only we knew what this vision means, then maybe we'd get somewhere!"
As Natsu watched the looping vision with Happy flying over his shoulder, the exceed's wing hit the ink bottle and ink spilt on the book and table. Happy immediately panicking that some of the girls' notes were covered with ink blotches and the book had splashes of ink as well. But what made Natsu freak out along with Happy was the fact that the ink covered some of the letters of the code.
"Happy! What did you do!? Mira and Erza are gonna kill us!" Natsu said as he began to look around in panic.
"Waah! Natsu!" Happy cried. "I didn't mean it! It was an accident!"
"Accident or not, the girls will be furious that we messed up their notes and even worse, the code had ink on it!" Natsu exclaimed. "How are they gonna solve it now and-?"
The dragon slayer soon became silent, his blue exceed noticing that he was no longer panicking and just staring at the book where the code was written. "Hhhhhhh, Natsu~!" Happy called. "It can't be that bad, can it? I mean you can still read it right-"
"Aya." Natsu said out of nowhere.
"What?" Happy asked in confusion, watching Natsu look back and forth between the looping vision hologram and the code that had ink on some of the letters. "Natsu? What's up?"
"I got it. I figured it out!" Natsu cheered, grabbing Happy excitingly and spinning around. "Happy, you're a genius! The code's been cracked!"
"Waaah! I don't know... what you're talking about Natsu..." Happy spoke in a dizzy manner after Natsu stopped spinning him, the world going round and round. "But, it must be... because... I'm a smart... kitty..."
"We have to find Levy and the others!" Natsu said in a hurry. "They'll be so happy, we found Luce!"
