7 years had passed since Lucy rejoined Fairy Tail. 7 years had passed since all the core members of Fairy Tail went off to Tenrou Island for the S-Class trials. 7 years had passed since they defeated Grimoire Heart. 7 years had passed since Achnologia appeared out of thin air to the island. 7 years had passed since they had all disappeared off the face of Earthland. 7 years had passed and still no sign of any chances of them surviving. 7 years had passed... and everyone was ready to give up.
It wasn't just Fairy Tail and the other magic guilds in Fiore that missed the fairies that had vanished. No... the ones who were just as devastated about the reality were the 2 groups that had become a part a vital part of Lucy's family in her heart. One formerly known as the Host Club and the second being the Sohma family. However, no one, not even the the remaining members of Fairy Tail, was as hurt by the news as Tamaki was. It practically killed him.
When the hosts heard of the news, it had been a normal day at the university. Everyone had just finished their classes and had gathered at their club room at the new clubroom at the university. It had been Bisca and Alzack who had come to deliver the news, their grief evident on the couple's faces. The hosts had welcomed them happily, of course, when they had heard that they belonged to the same guild as their beloved Lucy. What they weren't ready for was what came next after the soft apology slipped from their lips.
Tamaki had obviously heard of the S-Class trials from Lucy before she had left for the island, along with the rest of the Host Club. They had all cheered her on, hoping to hear that when she came back, she would become S-Class. But when Bisca and Alzack told them that the trials had been interrupted and the island was practically obliterated by a certain entity, every single host in the room had frozen in absolute shock. The other females, besides Haruhi, in the room confused as to what the 2 fairies were talking about.
"You... You're telling me... the island is gone...?" Tamaki asked, his entire body shaking as his mind began to swirl at the reality that he did not want to believe. "...Lucy...? What... what about her...? She... she wasn't..."
When the 2 fairies realized what his question was, they both looked away in shame. Their tears soon resurfacing at the sorrow and lament that they too had to face when the news had come from the search party that went to check on their nakama. "We couldn't have known... but when the Magic Council came to our door..." Bisca began to explain, her tears making her choke at the reality.
"They had told us of a catastrophic blast... a massive amount of ethernano levels that hit where Tenrou Island stood..." Alzack continued in tears, the hosts all looking to the ground as the image of the younger Suoh surfaced in their minds. "The island... and everyone else that was on it... our family... they're gone."
Those words caused a heavy heartbeat to vibrate through the hosts' bodies, they had become paralyzed at the very idea of Lucy and the others being gone. It was like they were put in a frozen state and their chests became heavy of the truth. They couldn't believe it, of course they couldn't. It was Fairy Tail after all. Lucy said that no foe of theirs could defeat them. The girls in the room became worried, whoever the couple was talking about, they were clearly very important to the hosts.
Honey was the first to choke out his sobs, the tears in his eyes finally overflowing and streaked down his face like rapid rivers as he wailed in utter agony at the loss of Lucy. Mori, though usually composed and silent, immediately rushed over in worry to the honey blonde boy and took him in a tight embrace in order to comfort him. The girls, that they were hosting with, gasping in utter shock at the tears that had also managed to escape the black haired man's eyes.
Kaoru just stared at the floor with wide eyes, silent as tears dripped on his pants. His hand was on top of Hikaru's and he immediately felt his twin shake. When he looked at his other half, his eyes widened as Hikaru was clutching his chest in pain. His tears, much like Honey, streaming down his face. Hikaru had liked Haruhi, yes, but he had come to terms that she liked Tamaki and thus had time to move on. But then Lucy came to his life. He truly loved her more than he ever could with Haruhi... and that broke him.
Kyoya, though not as close to Lucy as he was with her elder brother, was close enough to also stand in utter shock at the revelation. The youngest Ootori may care more about benefits than relationships, but it was different when it came to the Host Club. Tamaki was the first to become his actual friend and he had grown soft for the blonde boy. Then there was his younger sister. He hated to admit it, but he had grown soft to the Suoh-Heartfilia in the same way as her brother since she had been just as cunning and nonchalant as he.
Haruhi hadn't felt loss like that ever since her mother's death. Though it wasn't as powerful as her sadness then, the celestial mage was still her only female friend that knew that the brunette was female at first glance. Because of that, Haruhi was much closer to her than the rest of the hosts since she could complain about things that she couldn't with the boys. With teardrops falling from her eyes, threatening her contacts to fall off, Haruhi turned to Tamaki.
The boy in question just stood there in front of Bisca and Alzack, completely grief stricken. His tears had been flowing but he had made no sound, it even looked like he had stopped breathing. That was his sister on that island. His sister was so excited about participating in the trials and looked forward to becoming S-Class. Lucy was his sister. No... Lucy IS his sister. The shock held too great of a weight on him and Tamaki fell to his knees in despair that Haruhi immediately rushed to his side.
"Senpai!" She cried, ignoring her own sobs momentarily as she put her arms around him.
"Lucy is not gone..." He mumbled over and over again. "Lucy is strong... she wouldn't... she couldn't..."
"Tamaki..." Haruhi thought as she pulled him in her embrace. "Cry senpai... it's okay..."
The aftermath was not pretty either. Tamaki had screamed his heart out in despair at the loss of his younger sister. The second he yelled out his lament, the other hosts followed suit. The girls in the room were utterly confused, but when Bisca told them in between her sobs that Tamaki's sister had been lost, the guests immediately understood and excused themselves. Telling the hosts that they should rest and not hold club activities for awhile in order to heal.
Once everyone, except Tamaki, had calmed down, Kyoya immediately began to ask about details. Who else knew of the news? When did this all happen? Who in Fiore could produce so much magical energy that an entire island vanished from where it rest on the ocean? The 2 fairies tried their best to answer their questions, explaining that the entity that had brought down their beloved nakama was Achnologia, the chaos dragon of pure insanity and evil.
Of course, this shocked the hosts yet again. That the thing responsible for their nakama's parting was a dragon, a dragon that was of pure absolute evil unlike the kind dragons they had heard of from Natsu, Wendy and Gajeel. Bisca and Alzack tried to help them cheer up by telling them that there was a chance that the island was still out there, telling them that one of the guilds that Fairy Tail is allied with sensed that there is a very possible chance that the island still stood protected.
It had helped, but only slightly. The news certainly lifted their spirits and the hosts were ready to offer their support and help, regardless of how slim the chances were, but Tamaki had stopped them. He thanked them for bringing the news to them and told them that if there was any need of help or news of development at finding Tenrou Island, that they could contact him and he would help willingly. Stating that they wouldn't be much help at knowing anything about magic.
The rest of the hosts knew he was right and sighed in disappointment, but also agreed and thanked Bisca and Alzack for coming all the way to the university to personally deliver the news, knowing how hard it must have been themselves to learn of the incident. The 2 fairies bowed in response and began taking their leave, leaving the hosts to their lonesome and despair. It was then that Haruhi thought of the Sohmas and Tohru, since Lucy was also close to her cousin and the large family.
"It's definitely going to hurt them..." Haruhi had thought.
And true to her prediction, it did hurt them. Tohru, Yuki, Kyo and Akito had been the most affected out of those whom Lucy had met during her little stay there after graduating high school. They all just couldn't believe that the girl had actually been taken when she had done so much good for them from the moment they met. Akito especially couldn't believe that the first person that had let out their hand to her had left the world.
While everyone wallowed in sorrow, Tamaki thought back to when Lucy had told them about her returning to Fairy Tail. She had been so nervous to tell him and the rest of the Host Club that she had even started crying since she felt guilty of leaving them. He couldn't help but chuckle at the memory, the sight of Lucy completely torn had warmed his heart. It allowed him to fully see just how much she cared about them and how strongly she thought of them to be her family.
It had been around summer vacation if he remembered correctly. The members were all still in the clubroom, cleaning up from the day's activities and Lucy had been quite distracted when cleaning the dishes. It was clearly obvious about how distressed she was with whatever she was thinking about so being the good older brother he was, he went over to her. Once he placed an arm around her, he leaned over with a smile, surprising her.
"T-Tamaki! Don't do that!" She scolded.
Her flustered face made him chuckle and he took his arm away as he leaned on the counter next to the sink, apologizing as he did so. "Sorry Lucy." He said. "I couldn't help but tease you since you seem so distracted just now."
Her eyes widened and she looked at him, placing the final clean dish on the drying rack. "Me? Distracted?" She asked. "What would I have to be distracted about? I'm perfectly fine so I think you're just misunderstanding my expression and-"
Before she could continue her rambling, Tamaki covered her mouth, cutting her flow off. "Lucy, you've been with us for practically 3 years now." He said, slowly releasing his hand from sealing her mouth. "Whenever you begin to deny something, you always talk fast and try to avoid the subject. Now what's wrong?"
The celestial mage blinked twice before sighing, knowing that her brother was absolutely right and began to fidget with her fingers. She was calmer now than a few seconds ago, but Tamaki knew that she was still nervous. He didn't want to rush her, Lucy appreciating the gesture so she took her time to collect her thoughts. Remembering what Akito told her prior to her returning to the Host Club after her little visit to Sohma house. But just as she was about to tell him, Hikaru and Kaoru's heads popped from behind the kitchen entryway.
"Hey boss. Lucy." Hikaru said.
"You guys done with the dishes yet?" Kaoru asked.
The twins then took in the stiff atmosphere and the nervous aura surrounding Lucy. It didn't take them long to realize that they were about to talk about something important. They became flustered and scratched the back fo their heads sheepishly, a little guilty that they had probably interrupted something that was between just the 2 of them. So, to give them a little more privacy, they turned around and began to make their way to the others.
"Oops, sorry for interrupting!" Hikaru apologized.
"We'll just tell the others that you guys need a couple more minutes to yourself." Kaoru added.
"Wait." Lucy said, making the twins turn to look at her as she took a deep breath and relaxed her nerves. "It's probably best that I tell you all about this at the same time anyway."
Tamaki looked at her and raised a curious eyebrow. "Tell us about what?"
The blonde girl just smiled sadly in response to his question, the smile he learned to recognize whenever she thought about Fairy Tail. So he chose not to press the subject as she grabbed his wrist and brought him to where the others were waiting for them, the Hitachiin twins following behind them in silence. Tamaki had a feeling he knew what the subject was about and had been expecting her to speak about it sooner than later so luckily, he had mentally prepared himself for the day to an extent.
When everyone noticed them coming, they were about to say something until they saw the sad look in Lucy's eyes and remained quiet. Lucy gestured for Tamaki, Hikaru and Kaoru to sit down with the rest and they obeyed without a moment's hesitation. Kyoya had been standing up front, but when the tense atmosphere settled in the room, he too sat down next to Mori as Lucy made her way to stand in front of them, gathering the courage to give the announcement she had been preparing since she was with Akito.
"I..." She began to say in a nervous manner. She rolled her hands in to fist, clenching them tightly as a means to gather courage to say what she wanted. "I've... I've decided to go back to Fiore and rejoin Fairy Tail!"
Everyone in the room stared wide-eyed for a moment, the celestial mage refusing to look at any of them in the eye as small tears began to form in the corner of her eyes. Her announcement had confirmed Tamaki's suspicions and so he relaxed more quickly than everyone else. Probably like Lucy, he had thought that it was about time she come to terms with what's happened and forgive the guild for what they had done. She had been thinking for about 2 years now.
Soon, one by one, everybody else began to regain their composure and their expressions softened. Kyoya was the first one to fully regain composure and smirked whilst crossing his arms. "So... you've finally decided to forgive them, have you?" He asked. "It's about time that you do, if you ask me."
Lucy immediately looked up from her staring at the floor and saw the soft gazes of her family, not judging her for decision but had seemed for proud of her decision. "Huh?" She asked. "You're not mad... at me?"
"Why would we be mad at you, Lucy?" Honey asked, giving her his usual childish grin. "If anything, we're proud!"
"Proud?"
"Yeah!" Haruhi said, smiling. "We may have started off on the wrong foot with that guild when we heard about what they did to you, but when you were kidnapped we all had worked together and they really are a strange but nice group of people, like you said."
"I hate to admit it too, but they were very determined to find you as a way to make it up to you for everything they've done." Hikaru said, pouting at the reality. "But they definitely care, so I guess that they deserve another chance."
"We've been aware that you've been thinking of going back to those guys, Lucy." Kaoru revealed. "So we've all been preparing ourselves for the day you suddenly come up and tell us that you're going back home."
"You guys..." Lucy said, her emotions beginning to overflow.
"We know you care a lot about us, Lucy." Tamaki finally said. "Sometimes too much, but that's just how you are. But we also care about you and we want you to be just as happy as we are."
"What... What are you saying?"
"You may be a Suoh by blood, Lucy... but magic is also in your blood." He continued, getting up so he could point where her heart lies. "You're a celestial mage, the celestial mage of Fairy Tail and like that friend of yours said, just as they will always have a home waiting for you... you made them a home in your heart and now it's about they returned."
"Tamaki..." Lucy said as she tried to hold back her tears. "But I don't want to leave you guys either... you guys are my family too and... you guys mean so much to me... more than you know!"
The hosts just smiled at the girl and all had stood up and took the girl in for one huge group hug, to which she hugged back in return as she cried. "We'll obviously miss seeing you everyday." Kaoru said.
"But just 'cause we're not together anymore... doesn't mean that we're no longer family." Hikaru added.
"Besides, we can always hop in our private jets and visit!" Honey cheered. "We'd like to see the guild since Tama-chan was the only one who went last time, right Takashi?"
"Yeah."
"I'd also like to see this guild of yours as well." Kyoya admitted, catching Lucy off guard since the guild is way more eccentric than Tamaki was, which might be too much for the black haired male to handle. "The guild system in Fiore is fascinating after all."
"Of course that would interest you, Kyoya." Lucy laughed.
"It would be nice to see Mira, Wendy and the others too!" Haruhi added. "We haven't seen them since we went abroad after all."
"You guys truly are the best." Lucy said, her tears finally drying as she smiled at each of them. "You guys are the best family I could ever ask for... and that's the truth!"
And just like that, 7 long years of hurt and healing had passed. It had become customary that the hosts, Tohru and the Sohmas that Lucy had met would travel to Fiore, with the help of the pilot that had brought Lucy to the Suoh estate in the first place, and go to Fairy Tail to mourn for the loss of the mages at the S-Class trials. Though the non-mages didn't know the other fairies well, the fairies knew that Lucy held the non-mages dearly to her heart... and any family of hers is a family of theirs.
It had been hard throughout those 7 years. People slowly began to abandon Fairy Tail and money soon became an issue. Of course, Tamaki was ready to help, along with the Sohmas and the rest of the hosts, but the guild politely declined as they could not afford to go into debt with rich people such as them. So they were rejected of the offer, but Tamaki still sent small amounts of money for simple things such as food costs. If Lucy and the others were really out there, they needed a guild to come home to after all.
But those 7 years had helped the hosts, the Sohmas and Tohru give in to reality. The first 2 were the hardest times for them to accept the truth since it was those 2 years that made them all decide that having hope that the island was still out there was meaningless. Regardless of whether Lucy was truly alive or not, they knew that she wouldn't want them to wallow away in their sadness over her. If anything, she would probably choose to suffer herself in replace of them.
Of course, that didn't mean that the small piece of hope they held was no longer in their hearts. They thought of Lucy returning everyday and laughed about how it would either be really emotional or really funny. There were times when they all imagined Lucy just popping out of nowhere just apologizing comedically for her absence and there were other times when they imagined a very heartwarming reunion full of crying and hugging. It was those ideas that made them continue on their lives.
Once the 2nd year had passed, Tamaki was the first out of everyone to become better. He had begun to smile and laugh comedically again and little by little went back to his aloof self. Thanks to that, everyone began to follow suit. They began to smile, laugh, go crazy, everything that they were before the news of Tenrou Island befell them. But of course, it was easier on him and the other non-mages because they all only really knew Lucy. Fairy Tail, on the other hand, was a completely different matter entirely... which is obvious.
Yet good things did also happen in those 7 years. Several couples began getting married one after the other. The first being Bisca and Alzack. Then it was Tamaki and Haruhi. Kyo and Tohru were after them and then next was Yuki and his girlfriend, now wife, Machi. Everyone in the Host Club had graduated university and are now preparing to either take over their respective family businesses or prepping to make their own sub-businesses.
The Sohmas had been thriving well. Momiji finally connected with his younger sister and reconnected with his mother now that the curse had been lifted and now is living happily with his family of 4. Ayame married his assistant Mine while Shigure went and married Akito. Hatori was still a doctor, living his life peacefully within the Sohma house and Kagura went on to work a job that went along the lines of childcare... or something like that according to Kyo.
Neither of the 3 sides of Lucy's family ever interacted with one another unless it was the time of year for everyone to gather at Fairy Tail or when Tamaki and Akito sent money to the guild. Both the Sohmas and Host Club especially could not look at Fairy Tail since it was a place Lucy had thought of so highly and is a place of magic. Each sides of Lucy's family just couldn't bear looking at the other, the memories they had with her resurfacing every time they did.
So it only made sense for both Haruhi and Tohru to be absolutely confused to hear from Fairy Tail in secrecy, asking the 2 females to travel to Fairy Tail in utmost urgency. The 2 had made an excuse to their respective husbands about their reason for travel, saying that it had been quite awhile since they had spent time together with just the 2 of them. Luckily, they didn't think much of the reason and the 2 brunettes immediately set course for Magnolia with their bags packed for at least a week.
When they had arrived to the run down building of Fairy Tail, they were surprised to see members from Blue Pegasus, whom they had met during the times everyone had gathered at Fairy Tail to mourn for the missing core members. By the time they entered the guild hall, they had expected the Trimens to flirt with them on the ready, but considering that they were both married now, the Trimens had respectfully backed out at any attempt to host the 2 females. Especially since Haruhi was a host herself.
"So what's this all about?" Haruhi asked, placing both her and Tohru's bags on a bench by the front doors.
"Hibiki has caught signals of a large energy reading of ethernano around where Tenrou Island once stood." Ichiya informed, making the brunettes' eyes widened.
"We have reason to believe that whatever that energy entails, it could possibly lead us to answers about what actually happened to the island." Hibiki continued to explain. "Or perhaps, and this is probably just wishful thinking... maybe it could lead us to where the core members of Fairy Tail are... and that they are likely to still be alive."
Haruhi and Tohru immediately froze at those words, shaking slightly as the hope they and the rest of the non-mages pushed away to the back of their minds began to resurface. The possibility of seeing Lucy and the others once again, it was something they couldn't help but pray that it was true. But then, Tohru paused her excitement for a minute, taking in the situation for just a moment. Haruhi noticed and got out of her own trance to check on her cousin.
"Tohru? You okay?"
"But then..." The girl spoke up, her eyes of concern piercing through the mages bodies. "Why would you only tell us about this? Why not Tamaki? He is Lucy's brother."
The fairies smiled at the brunette's concern and they'd be lying if they said that they hadn't thought about the idea. "Trust us, we thought about contacting all of you, but we don't know if these readings are ultimately correct and we didn't want Lucy's brother to get his hopes up just in case." Macao explained.
"You girls, out of everyone we've met from Lucy's third family, are the most mature next to that Kyoya fellow, Yuki and that Honey boy's cousin." Wakaba added. "If this doesn't turn out the way we hope, at least the rest of your group wouldn't become so distressed."
"And I'm sure Lucy would agree that it'd be best if you both were the one's to find her." Laki said. "She did mention you guys a lot in her stories after she rejoined the guild."
"But we won't force you." Macao interrupted. "We know how much it must hurt and we're not trying to get your hopes either. We just figured that if we did find the others, you could be the ones to bring Lucy to reunite her with everyone else."
Haruhi and Tohru looked at each other, they knew that there are slim chances for the core members of Fairy Tail but they couldn't help but hold on to that hope. The answer to the offer was quite obvious and even though it ended up as a failure they wouldn't regret going off to look for Lucy and the others. After all, the blonde celestial mage granted them so much. She gave Haruhi the only female friend that knew her secret during high school and helped Tohru with the Sohmas. They were grateful to her.
They nodded, their silent agreement confirmed and looked to the mages with determined eyes. "We'll go with you." Haruhi replied to which the mages all nodded in appreciation.
Hibiki smirked and handed Alzack some rolls of paper. "These are the coordinates of the energy signals, if Tenrou Island is anywhere, then it has to be somewhere in the marked area." He said.
The mages and 2 cousins nodded in gratitude as the Blue Pegasus members began to take their leave. Once that was done, it was decided that Jet, Droy, Alzack, Bisca, Max and Warren would accompany Haruhi and Tohru to look for the island. "Let's just hope that we don't go back empty handed..." Tohru thought.
