A/N: I am back again. This ending has started to flow a bit better for me. Let's hope it continues until the end. I hope you all enjoy. I am pretty there are only going to be 3 more chapters after this. I don't want to rush the ending, but I know how long you have all been waiting for a conclusion. I thank each and everyone of you for sticking with this one until the end.
DIMITRI
"I don't understand why we just can't go get him." Katya said from the back of the car as we drove back to my family home. "Marcus and Rebekah are dead. We know where Adam is? He is even waiting for us. "What is there left to discuss?"
It was clear during these moments that she was not a trained guardian. Eddie and I, even Sonya, realized this could've been a trap from the moment we read the note. Katya didn't understand that we had to be sure what we were walking into before we could even think about going where Adam said he was.
"Because, Katya, it could be a trap." I tried to explain. "According to this note, Adam is holding on to his humanity, something that is nearly impossible when the transformation happens. For all we know, he could be playing on this to lure us to him and kill us all. I have to be sure that you are gonna be safe before we make a move."
"He saved me. Why would he tell me where he is, if he just wanted me dead?" I questioned.
"It might not be him who wants to kill you." Eddie explained calmly. "We have proof that Rebekah is dead, but we can't be sure if he is telling the truth about Marcus. He could be going along with a ploy of Marcus's to either get you back or kill you."
"But that doesn't make sense. He hates Marcus as much as I do, why would he be working with him?"
Guilt hit me again as I continued the drive back to my family's house. I couldn't believe I had dragged someone who knew nothing of our kind into this. There was a good chance her trusting nature, even after everything that had happened to her, was going to get her killed. I wouldn't be able to live with myself if that had happened.
"It does if you look at from a couple of different angles." I explained. "The first, and most likely, after Adam killed Rebekah, Marcus and Adam fought. Marcus has been a Strigoi much longer than Adam. Marcus was most likely able to subdue him and take him prisoner. Marcus could've forced him to write that note to lure you to them. He could be waiting for you to come, so he can torture and kill you in front of Adam. It is the best way for him to get revenge on Adam for taking away the love of his life."
I saw the look of horror dawn on Katya's face as I looked into the rearview mirror. It was clear this was not an option she had considered. I hated that I has to put that imagine inside her head, but she had to understand why we needed to be cautious right now. She needed to know why we couldn't run in their guns blazing to save the love of her life. We needed to be careful to insure both of them made it out alive.
"The other," Eddied continued. "Is that Adam is willingly helping Marcus because Marcus is the one that turned him. Often times, whether or not, the conversion was forced, a newly awakened Strigoi might feel such a bond with their creator that they would do anything in their power to please their creator."
"Considering Marcus's relationship with Adam before the transformation and the fact that he saved you, we highly doubt this." I added before she could get even more upset and begin to protest. "If this had been the case, then he wouldn't have helped you escape or killed Rebekah in the first place."
"So he's a prisoner again?" Katya asked in a hollow sort of tone.
"We don't know that for sure, but we think that it ia a likely option." I answered. "Which is why we need to try to do a little recon and have a plan in place before we go in there. We need to know how much of this note is true and how much is a lie. We need to know for sure if Adam will be a hostile force, and we need to know how many men Marcus has. We need to know what we might be up against."
"I understand." She said, sounding a little deflated. I hated taken away her few breif moments of happiness. She needed to know the odds, though. She needed to understand that her safety was the most important thing during this fight.
"Good. Now, when we get back to the house, I want you to get some rest. Abe, Eddie, Sonya, and I have much to discuss. We don't know when we will be raiding, but I want you to be well rested and at full strength. It could be a long hard fight."
She nodded, but didn't look happy about it. I knew she would want to be a part of the planning process, but she really didn't need all the gory details. She had alread lost enough of her innocence.
When we arrived back at the house, she went up to her room while the others and myself went into the lving room. My family had been very good with giving us privacy. As usual though, my mother had sent in refreshments while we began our long discussion of how we were going to successfully save Adam.
ROSE
Lissa had spent most of the rest of the day trying to distract me from the things that were happening in our lives right now. I was sure seeing me like that had shaken her and she wanted to make it better as quickly as possible. I tried my hardest to pretend in front of her, but the truth was, I would not feel better until I was able to talk to Dimitri about everything. I needed to know what his plans were once this mission was over.
Mostly though, I needed a chance to prepare myself for life without him, if he did decide to go with Katya and Adam when it was all over. I was sure a little warning would be life without him a little more bearable this time. Not much, but a little.
When I finally went back to my room after the full day with Lissa, I flopped down on the bed and had the cry I had been pushing away ever since this whole thing started. I didn't like to cry, especially not in front of people, but when I did it wasn't pretty. I don't know how long it lasted, but by the time I finished, I was a mess. My face was all red and puffy and my eyes were bloodshot. Thank God, I didn't have to see or speak to anyone for the rest of the night. I was just about to get ready for bed when my cell started bust in my pocket.
I pulled it out and saw the words Comrade flashing across the screen. I couldn't help but smile as I pressed the answer button.
"Hey, Comrade, I was hoping to hear from you tonight. How are things going?" I said trying to sound as cheerful as I could force myself.
"Better than I expected actually." He answered. "Or at least I hope."
"That doesn't sound too convincing. What happened?" I sat back on the bed with my legs pulled up to my chest.
"We went back to the remains of the club and searched the basement." He explained. "There was a note, left by Adam, telling Katya exactly where he was."
"You think it's a trap?" I questioned.
"It is quite possible. Your father had sent some of his men to the location to give us some idea of what to expect."
"How is Katya doing with that?"
"She is having a difficult time understanding why we can't run in their right now and try to save him. She is just starting to see all the ways it could be a trap. I had to tell her that it is possible Marcus has taken Adam as his prisoner and is forcing him to lead us into this trap."
"Are you sure Adam is even still alive, then?" I knew neither of us didn't want to go there, but it this really was a set up, then we had to consider every option very carefully.
"I think so. As sadistic as Marcus is, if he is trying to get revenge on Adam for Rebekah, he'd want Adam to watch Katya suffer before she died."
"I'll have to take your word for that." I didn't know Marcus well enough to really pass judgement. I wanted to believe there was a chance that Katya could still get her happy ending.
"And how are you holding up?" He asked. I should've known he would be able to sense my mood. He was the only one who knew me better than Lissa.
"I am okay. I'm just wondering what is going to happen when this is all over." I sighed. I had wanted to have this conversation with him, after all. I wasn't about to chicken out because I was afraid of what he might say.
"Katya and Adam will go on there way." He answered knowingly. "Eddie, Sonya, and I will return to court where we belong." Hearing those words warmed my heart. I couldn't believe that I was silly enough to think that anything, even guilt could keep him away from me.
"Even if you don't mange to destroy Marcus and Katya and Adam need..." I trailed of because my worries really did seem stupid now. He and I had been through too much for him to leave me over a mistake like this, no matter how big it was.
"If Katya and Adam need protection," Dimitri reassured. "I will help Lissa choose the most qualified guardians for the job. My place is next to you Rose. Helping you to protect Lissa and Christian and loving you everyday of the rest of my life. It would take a lot more than this to keep me away from you."
"I suppose I should've known that already." I whispered. "I just don't want to lose you ever again."
"And you won't. I love you more than anything in this world, Roza. You are everything to me, and I'm not going anywhere."
"I love you too, Comrade." I told him wishing I could throw my arms around. His words really did make me feel like I could fly in that moment. "Just make sure you do come back to me." I knew there was still a possibility I could lose him, as much as I didn't want to think about that."
"Always, Roza, Always."
"Goodnight, Comrade."
"Goodnight."
As I pressed the end button on my phone, I sent up a pray that I would not lose him, no matter what happened next.
KATYA
As I stepped into the mansion of my very first prisoner, I prayed that Dimitri and the others had been wrong. I knew I should've waited for their plan, but Adam needed me. He never once abandoned me, and I wasn't about to abandon him. Did they not understand that he was running out of time?
The house was so dark, I wish I had grabbed a flashlight before I snuck out. There wasn't time for that, though. I had to get out while they were distracted. If I hadn't left, when I did, they would've caught me and tried to stop me.
Part of me knew I needed them to save Adam, and I prayed that they would be right behind me. Perhaps placing myself in immediate danger would make them see that waiting was stupid. I could only hope that was the case.
I was walking down the almost pitch black hallway for a good five minutes and had yet to meet any resistants. Did that mean that Dimitri had been wrong? Could Adam really be here alone waiting for me? Not being able to see, I decided that speaking would be worth the risk.
"Adam?" I called. "Where are you?"
"Katya?" A voice called back. "Katya, help me please?" Along with his screams I could here the sound of chains banging against iron bars as I continued up the hallway. "I don't want to be a monster. Please save me."
"I'm coming Adam!" I called as I raced up the hallway with my hand against the wall. I was looking for a handle or any kind of gap in the wall.
"Hurry." His next scream seemed close by and my hand finally found a door knob. I yanked it open and stepped into a pitch black room. I realized then that Dimitri and the others been right.
Laughter broke out all around me as the door slammed shut. When the lights came up, I found I was surrounded by ten vampires with red rimmed eyes. Directly in front of me stood Marcus and Adam. Marcus had his arm around Adam's shoulder's and they both were sadistic smiles.
"Well, well, well, boys, it looks like my pet has returned to me."
