Chapter Forty: Promised Day

Elsa finally stirred awake to find herself in a dark room, no light illuminated anywhere except from the space from the floor to the bottom of the door. Her head throbbed from the blow she had taken to the head a few times at the castle. Her heart clenched when she remembered what happened seeing the tower explode into flames with Mathias, Kristoff and Christian inside. She couldn't believe that they were gone but a faint sob escaped her lips knowing that she'll never see them again.

"M-Mathias…" She whispered to herself as tears began to slide down her face like a stream.

"So, you finally decided to wake up did you?" someone spoke from the darkest corner of the room shocking Elsa from her thoughts.

"W-who's there?!" She shouted as she looked around frantically. She went to move but couldn't move her arms. She finally noticed that her hands were chained to the wall along with her legs and quickly became fully aware of what's going on.

"Let me go now, there's no point in holding me captive whoever you are." She said fear dreaded in her eyes as she spotted movement in the darkness as her eyes adjusted a bit.

"Oh… so you already forgotten who i am already, pity." The man said as he came out of the shadows. It was Hans and there was rage evident on the shadowy outline of his face as he continued to walk closer to her

"What did I ever do to you?" She asked, afraid she already knew the answer. Hans gritted his teeth before he smacked her across the face in anger. She felt the sting but wouldn't give him the satisfaction as she looked back up in defiance.

"You... You took everything from me! The throne, my title, the kingdom, everything!" He yelled at the blond woman who was bonded to the wall. He then looked across the cell to Anna, who was chained against the wall. Her left cheek swollen and a small gash on the right side of the head. He then turned to the other women and sadistically smiled down at her. "Oh... Elsa, now I'll return the favor. Watch as I slowly murder your precious sister." He said as he pulled out his dagger from its sheath.

"Don't you dare... DON'T YOU DARE TOUCH HER!" She screamed in anger. A curdling scream was heard through the room stopping Hans mid step as he looked at the door in irritation.

"What's going on out there!" He bellowed and then an all too familiar roar was heard and the man was now fully aware of what's going on.

"No it couldn't be." Elsa said to herself in disbelief but her attention quickly went back to Hans as he stared out in horror.

"TAKE HIM DOWN!" She heard someone say outside the door followed by another roar. Hans tightened his grip on his dagger in anger and rushed over to Anna.

"I WON'T LET ANYONE STOP ME FROM GETTING MY REVENGE!" He yelled as he raised his dagger above the younger women. The door busted off its hinges and a tall shadowy figure slowly appeared in the doorway. He made a heavy step on his right leg as he walked in. Scars illuminated over the top part of his body along with some new wounds on his right side. His attention was fully on the armed man. His amber eyes glowed in the dark as he stared dangerously at the man standing before him.

"M-Mathias, you're okay." She said in relief as she watched him slowly walk in the room his eyes never losing sight of Hans as he clenched his fists tightly making Hans stumble back a bit.

"H-How?! You're supposed to be dead!" Hans said startled. A low growl came from Mathias's throat before he unleashed his furious roar that boomed throughout the room causing Elsa to flinch slightly but watched as the two men charged each other in fury. Hans' blade connected to Mathias's left shoulder causing him to growl in pain as he grabbed the exiled prince and slammed him into the nearest wall away from Elsa and Anna. Mathias stepped back and admired his handy work for a few seconds before facing the doorway as if expecting something.

"Hey Kristoff what the hell are you waiting for get them out of here!" He bellowed in as he brought his attention back to Hans as he slowly stood back up glaring at the other man. Elsa was stunned when she heard him call out Kristoff and looked at the doorway when she heard footsteps and was amazed by the fact Kristoff was alive and well also.

"Kristoff! H-How are you two still alive?" She asked him bewildered as the mountain man approached her with some keys.

"The bastard threw me down the stairs before the blast so i was fine." He said but Elsa caught the "was" in the sentence.

"W-What about Christian is he alright?" She asked him as Kristoff fumbled with the keys finding the right one. Kristoff smiled though bitterly as he found the right key and unlocked her legs then her hands.

"Mathias shielded him from the blast though i was surprised to see them both still alive but Mathias was injured badly and i had no choice but to take him to Grand Pabbie to heal his wounds. To my surprise Grand Pabbie already knew about him and wouldn't answer any of my questions about that. After he was healed he quickly went out to find you two." He said as he walked over to Anna much to Mathias's irritation as he fought for control over the dagger with Hans. Elsa was surprised that Grand Pabbie already knew about Mathias and wondered if Mathias knew him as well as she hurried over to help Kristoff free Anna from her bindings. Mathias roared in aggravation as he shoved Hans away from himself and charged again.

"Will you guys hurry it up!" He said through gritted teeth as he stopped the dagger from stabbing him in the face and added more pressure to Hans's wrist till he let go of the blade in pain. Hans held his hand breathing heavily as he stared at Mathias in anger as he stood between him and the Royal sisters.

"H-How did you get your strength back?" He asked but was only answered by a low chuckle confusing him.

"Trust me, that's not the only thing i got back." he said with a toothy grin and Hans gasped in horror realizing what he meant.

"No….No it can't be, it's not possible!" He said fearfully as he backed against the wall as Mathias's grin disappeared into a glare as he stepped closer to Hans.

"How many….How many people do you have to make suffer before you realize enough is enough?! How many people have to die for your arrogance, your ambition for power?!" He asked angrily catching Elsa's attention as she looked at him frightened remembering the time he was like this when Alice died.

"You hurt too many innocent people, friends, family and loved ones and you don't even care! You tried to offset the balance of nature for your own bidding and your selfish arrogance will be your undoing." He declared angrily but Hans began to laugh surprising him a bit.

"You're the one to talk. How many people have you killed in your lifetime, hundreds, thousands, Millions?! What makes you any different from me Mathias? He asked causing Mathias to tense up at the question.

"You're right i have killed a lot of people in my lifetime but i only did it to keep the order when they tried to disrupt the balance of nature and unlike you i always kept my distance out away from the humans and only stepped in when it was necessary just like what i'm about to do now." He said as he looked back to see them finally free an unconscious Anna who was in Kristoff's arms.

"Go, get as far from here as you can, Kristoff will take you to the ships where it's safe." He ordered and Elsa looked at him shocked as she tried to walk to him but Kristoff grabbed her.

"What about you, are you coming with us?" She asked worriedly and Mathias gave her a small smile she knew when he becomes stubborn.

"No, I'm staying here to take care of the Southern Isles on my own." He answered as he looked back at Hans. Kristoff knew what he was about to do and tugged at Elsa and ushered her to follow him as he stormed out of the room with her in tow but she stopped halfway through and looked at Mathias one last time.

"Please be careful." She said as she hurried out leaving the two men in the room. As soon as she left Mathias's whole body began to glow a bright blue and Hans knew he too had to leave before he got killed and rushed past Mathias as he slowly turned back into his true self slowly destroying the dungeon ceiling. His skin turned gray forming into tough scales along his body and spikes began to grow down his back as he roared out declaring his war against the Southern Isles.

Kristoff ran as fast as he could with Elsa in tow, he couldn't believe Mathias was going to do that within the castle of all places. The ground began to shake violently and he could hear the more frightening roar of Mathias.

"Keep running and whatever you do don't look back!" Kristoff shouted back to Elsa who was trying to keep up with him. The castle slowly started to crumble behind them once they got past the castle gates. Guards were swarming everywhere paying no mind to the two running down the street. Elsa caught a glimpse of a familiar face within the skirmish, her evil counterpart was looking onward toward the castle. A loud booming rumble was heard and everything went silent, Elsa turned around and saw the castle crumble and soon after rise revealing something terrifying, the very thing that had been haunting Elsa in her dreams is rising right before her eyes. Debri of the castle fell off the giant body as it stood its full height. The sounds of cannons firing shook her out of her awe as the beast roared in anger. Its massive clawed hand slammed into the earth not far from them.

"Run!" Kristoff yelled and they bolted away from the chaos. The roars were deafening and debri was flying all around them crashing into buildings. A group of guards spotted them and rushed forward stopping them in their tracks. Anna finally started to wake up and began to pound on Kristoff's back demanding to be let down.

"Put me down you creep!" She yelled frantically till she finally got a look at her husband.

"K..Kristoff?" She asked in disbelief as he set her down ignoring the guards approaching them.

"Yeah, it's me and you picked hell of a time to wake up feisty pants." Kristoff said mentioning to the guards barking orders at them. Anna quickly picked up a stick and started to approach them.

"How dare you!" She yelled at them and before she got any closer to them something flew over her head and slammed into the guards. They were gone along with a good bit of the street, the buildings were completely destroyed and she turned around and became chillingly pale. Kristoff grabbed her and moved quickly out of the way as a giant foot slammed into the ground where they once were. Elsa quickly ran to them in worry of her sister.

"Anna are you alright?" She asked but Anna was still staring above them at the giant beast as it roared again before moving away from them. Kristoff took this opportunity to usher the royal sisters away from the warzone.

"Come one we gotta go now." He said as he helped Anna up on her feet. She started to look around and saw an empty ally leading towards another street and ran towards it. She didn't hear Kristoff yelling out to her when the beast's tail slammed into the ally a few feet from her before lifting back up. Kristoff grabbed her arm and led her to another street where Elsa was already waiting for them

"Come on, Hurry!" Elsa shouted to them. She looked ahead and saw the creature going after the soldiers firing off their cannons. A wall of ice formed between her and Anna and Kristoff before they could get any closer.

"And where do you think you're running off to?" A feminine voice asked causing Elsa to turn around to see her darker counterpart. Her sadistic smile broadened as she looked up and down of her.

"I can't let you leave, in order for me to become complete i have to kill you and take your life as my own. This slow absorption process is killing me so we'll have to speed it up, so why don't you just give up and become apart of me already." She hissed and Elsa scoffed standing her ground.

"If anyone is going to die today i promise it's going to be you!" She yelled shooting an ice blast toward the other woman who dodged it with ease. The two women begin their fight despite the destruction happening around them. Ice formed around them as one tried to hurt the other but they paid no mind to their changed surroundings. Anna and Kristoff found another way around and watched the scene before them. Anna in her attempt to help Elsa, cheered her older sister on.

Exhaustion was starting to take over elsa as she tried with all her might to keep up. The dark haired woman noticed this and smiled and shot ice toward the ground by Elsa's feet forming ice spikes stabbing her in her stomach and left leg. She screamed in pain as the spikes dug deeper into her flesh, her blood slowly sliding down the ice.

"It's over i've won Elsa." She said as she walked over and cupped her hand on Elsa's cheek. Her other hand she used a single finger to wipe up a bit of blood on the ice and stuck it in her mouth for a taste.

Mathias continued his carnage upon the soldiers that desperately tried to harm him with their cannons. Such weapons have no effect on him like the ones he once experienced. He immediately froze when he heard a scream, a too familiar scream then not long another.

"Elsa!" He heard it and his heart paced as he quickly turned around and from the distance he saw his beloved impaled by ice and that witch standing in front of her, as Anna went rushing in to try and aid her sister. He growled as he became fueled with rage and began to move forward towards them ignoring the men behind him for now.

Anna ran towards the two and took advantage of the dark haired woman not noticing her. Without hesitation she threw her punch landing her fist in the woman's jaw causing her to stagger back in surprise.

"You stay away from my sister!" Anna growled putting herself infront of her wounded sister. The other woman laughed as she stared down at Anna.

"What power do you have to stop me?" She asked with a sadistic smile. From behind her Anna heard a thud and saw that spike of ice broke causing Elsa to fall to the ground. She quickly hurried to her sister's side, a small pool of blood began to form. The sight filled Anna with fear, fear of losing her sister the only family she had left after their parents died.

"Elsa please, please stay with me." Anna pleaded as she held her sister, tears started to stream down her face. The Ice queen began to move forward toward them when Kristoff stepped between them.

"Ah the peasant wants to die as well i see." She said but Kristoff held his ground. Behind the woman a blue glow appeared and started to rise revealing a tail further up the glow went revealed the massive titan, His ember eyes glowed the smoke.

Kristoff slowly backed away knowing what was about to happen hoping that he'll give her what she has coming . The evil counterpart glared up at him in defiance, turning fully to face him.

"Begone pest!" She yelled firing ice and snow into the ground. A giant snow golem rises and faces the titan ready to swing its massive arms. Another roar boomed from the sky and a massive dragon dove in at incredible speed tackling the golem to the ground, pinning it with its claws. The glowing titan looked down upon the woman fired the built up energy from within him just as the dark haired woman fired an ice blast. Two opposing elements collide forming a warm mist that falls upon the area.

Everything was slowly starting to blur in Elsa's vision but she was able to see that her evil counterpart was starting to overpower the titan, that's when she seen the blue light, it reminded her of the very man that she loved. It finally dawned on her, the dreams happened ever since Mathias came into her life and now that very same beast from her dreams is here right now.

"Mathias.." She barely whispered as she tried to stand herself up, scarring her sister in the process.

"Elsa, you need to rest." Anna told her but Elsa ignored her and finally got to her feet but was having difficulty keeping balanced.

"Mathias." She said again as she refocused on the ice queen mustering the remaining strength she had left. The other woman finally noticed her, eyes widened in shock.

"You will not harm him!" She yelled as she summoned an ice blast, the ice impaling the other woman's chest weakening her. The titan took advantage and pressed harder overwhelming the ice queen by its sheer power enveloping her into the flames, her body disintegrated. The titan flared through its nose having to finally get rid of the witch. His attention is drawn to Elsa as she lay still on the ground motionless. The dragon approached looking down at the humans then looked at its comrade who moves down closer to them, his eyes filled with sadness as he looked upon the young woman.

Mathias finally snaps and gets up with a ear splitting roar. His attention went back to the soldiers that were getting on their ships and the ones that remained at their posts. Helios slowly backed away before he got caught in the crossfire and watched as a destructive force of nature unleashed his furious rage upon the humans.

From the ashes of the Ice Queen, the magic that was used to create the evil counterpart was broken and the power and life that was stolen began to return to its rightful owner. Anna and kristoff watched as the titan laid waste to the remaining forces that opposed him, Kristoff didn't blame him but Anna didn't understand why the beast saved them, let alone show the emotion of anguish and sorrow. The most confusing to her was that Elsa was determined to help.

"What did she mean you will not harm him?" She asked herself till she felt movement in her arms. Shocked she found that her sister was alive, she checked her over for the wounds but they were gone.

"Elsa you're okay!" She cried out in relive as she hugged her older sister, more tears ran down her face as she held her sister closer. Her sister slowly stood up and looked around till she see him surrounded by flames, his roar booming across the now barren land of the southern isles. The spikes along his back began to glow blue as he released the blue fire the engulfed the remains of the buildings. Tears fell down her cheeks as she watched on knowing that she is the reason that he's enraged. Wanted to calm him down let him that she was okay so he can end the destruction but she didn't know how.

"Mathias!" She yelled out hoping it would get his attention but it didn't seem to work. Anna was still confused till the white titian behind them walked forward and roared catching his attention, then his eyes lowered down to her and froze. It seemed time froze between the two as the titan walked forward a light glow illuminated from him nearly blinding them. Once the light died down Elsa was finally able to see clearly, Mathias stood in front of her his eyes meeting her blue ones it was almost like the day they seen each other for the first time.

"I thought i've lost you.." He said as he pulled her closer to him and she hugged him back. She looked up at him as they pulled apart.

"This has to stop Mathias, just look around you, you've won." Elsa said referring to the destruction that surrounds them. Mathias simply looked down in shame.

"You aren't a monster Mathias, certainly not to me." She said as she reached up and cupped the left side of his face reassuring him that everything is alright now. The moment was interrupted by the sounds of clapping. Mathias's eyes narrowed as he pulled Elsa close to him. From the smoke appeared Hans, covered in soot and dirt with his clothing torn in a few areas.

"Well done, well done, quite unexpected really that you have regained your true self. And by yourself you've done all this, destroyed my home and for what exactly, her?!" He asked gesturing to elsa who stood by his side.

"Why is she so special to you Mathias?" Hans asked as he glared at them but being mindful and the other titan that stood behind the group. Mathias looked down at the woman who changed him for the better and smiled as the memories of them being together came flashing back in his mind.

"She taught me what it is to be human which gave me a different perspective in life. Because with her i found happiness and love, and i would give up my old life if it means spending an eternity with her." Mathias said and Hans glared in irritation but smiled at him.

"Well if you're willing to give up all that power then i'll be happy to take it from you." He said as pulled out an item from his pocket. To Mathias it looked like an old artifact but he took the caution of moving elsa behind him for her protection.

"This Mathias is able took take your power and make it mine and once i gained all of your power, i'll end all of you." He said pointing it in Mathias's direction but Mathias had no time to react as the artifact released a yellow beam hitting him square on paralyzing him.

Kristoff rushed toward Hans to try and stop him but some of the yellow sparks zapped Kristoff sending him flying backward. Hans smirked as he felt mathias's power surge through him, he felt like he was invincible and he was enjoying it. His moment of victory ended as soon as the other titan stepped in, it's giant hand covered Mathias shielding him from losing anymore of his strength causing Hans to absorb the dragon's power as well which was starting overwhelm him. His body burned like it was on fire. He dropped the artifact and screamed out in agony as his skin began to turn red. The sounds of bones cracking even made Mathias cringe as he watched wondering what was happening to Hans. He quickly turned Elsa away as soon as he noticed the flesh was starting to fall off as he began to grow and change. He was no longer Hans now but something far more darker, the price of his arrogance and selfish quest for power led to his insanity. Thus begins the clash of titans.
