Chapter forty-one: The Clash of Titans
Helios landed and looked about his new surroundings, ice and snow as for as the eye can see as he walked about looking for his target destination. It wasn't long till he felt an all too familiar presence deep within the ice that he took a few steps back before breathing fire upon the ice causing it to melt into a hot mist. He kept it up till a massive figure rose up it's six eyes glared down at him.
"Who is it that dares disturb my slumber?" It asked as it spread out it's massive wings towering over Helios.
"I am Helios, Dragon of the West. i've come seeking your aid as a new threat has emerged in your absence." He replied and the other beast roared as it's three spiked tails slammed into the ice.
"Is that so? Then why haven't you asked that amphibian for assistance?" it asked him and Helios suppressed a growl as he grew impatient.
"He came to me, but i fear we won't be able to win which is why i came to you. With your help we would be able to save this world and rid it of the corruption which will began to spread destroying everything In its path. This threat is in a form of a human but i believe he'll attempt in achieving the power of our kind." Helios finished as the other titan growled as if in thought till Helios flew away leaving it to it's thoughts.
"A mere human wants our power to conquer this world.. The mere thought of it insults me and i won't allow this puny creature to take what is rightfully mine." It said to himself as it roared out to the heavens in defiance.
Now
The Massive being towered over them it resembled more of a skeletal dragon with the exception of the massive spikes on its back resembling that of Mathias' true body structure most of the flesh had already fallen off what caught Mathias awareness was its shadow, within the shadow everything began to disintegrate. its yellow eyes glowed with hatred as it reared up and roared spreading its massive wings. Mathias herd Helios roar out in fury and quickly pulled Elsa down for cover as the white dragon lunged forward slamming its body into the abomination, slamming it into the earth. Mathias took this opportunity and looked at Kristoff who held Anna close to him.
"Kristoff get them out of here." Mathias said as Kristoff ushered Anna away. Elsa looked at him with concern and was about to approach him when Mathias stopped her.
"Please go with them, i wouldn't forgive myself if anything happens to you." He told her but She was still worried.
"What will you do?" She asked him and he gave her a sad smile and approached her.
"What i was meant to do. If i don't stop him now there is no telling what he'll do to the rest of the world, i can't allow that." He said and Elsa quickly pressed her lips to his for a brief moment before pulling away.
"Do whatever it takes Mathias but please come back to me." She said as she went off to follow Kristoff and Anna. Mathias turned around in time to see Helios crash down before him with the abomination pinning him down trying to bite at Helios' throat. Mathias began to turn blue as he was enveloped in dust.
The trio finally made it to the ridge where they were greeted by Jonathan and a few other men who were concerned for their queen.
"Are you alright my queen? we seen what happen and we feared the worst." Jonathan asked her as she approached she was covered and sweat and dirt with a few cuts on her arms and cheek.
"I'm fine but Mathias stayed behind to fight." She said as she turned to look down at the battle before her. The all to familiar roar boomed like thunder as Mathias' true self emerged standing his full height catching the attention of the red abomination. Anna stood there in awe before she looked at the group.
"Does anyone know what he his exactly?" She asked and they nodded their heads but Kristoff spoke up.
"Grand pabbie spoke of him, he's a god of some sorts he has been on this earth for a long time and there are more like him as you can see, but most importantly he's the king of all monsters and right now he's humanity's only hope." He said as the two massive titans clashed one trying to gain control of the other. The abomination shot up into the air and disappearing into the clouds. The white dragon got up and flew up into the clouds in pursuit. The clouds lit up orange and red till a massive mass of fire fell to the earth shaking the earth clouds of dust and debri spread, the shockwave of the impact nearly knocked the group down. As the dust cleared it revealed the white titan lying within the crater unconscious smoke coming off its body. The red abomination dived out of the clouds towards it next target.
The king of monsters roared out braising for the oncoming assault from his assailant. The contact was packed more force than he had anticipated as he planted his feet firmly into the ground as he was pushed back. He clamped his jaws into the beast but wasn't surprised that no blood was drawn out. With all his might slung the abomination off and away from him. Mathias turned to look at Helios but he was gone leaving him alone to fight the abomination. He didn't have time to turn around when he was attacked from behind, his side slid in the earth as the abomination clawed and bit at him.
Elsa stood in horror as her beloved was overwhelmed by the creature and no one was able to help him, his cries of pain pierced her heart the sounds of coughing caught her attention as she turned around to see a man clutching his side.
"My apologies i haven't done that in such a long time." The man said before he coughed again the other men looked at him wearily.
"Who are you?" Elsa asked as she took a step towards him. The man struggled to straighten himself up as he looked at her fully.
"I-I'm Helios, Dragon of the West as the people back where i am from once called me. I am a titan like your beloved down there." He said as he collapsed down to his knees and she ordered some men to aid him. She looked down at the battlefield seeing Mathias struggling to get back up only to get slamed back down again. He looked into her direction and something sparked in his eyes before she knew it he forced himself up his head ramming into the abomination's skull with a loud thud. The beast roared in anger once it recovered from the blow and began to circle around Mathias looking for the opportunity to strike. Mathias growled as he glared down at his opponent keeping it within sight.
"Why did you leave him alone out there with that thing?" Elsa asked him not even bothering to look back. She feared this would be a losing battle for Mathias with him at a disadvantage against something that can easily take flight. Without waiting for a reply from Helios she bolted down the ridge towards the battle, ignoring the pleas of the guards and her sister. Her eyes focused on her destination as frost began to form at her fingertips and with a swift motion jerked her hand forward summoning rows of ice spikes rising from the earth until one impaled the red abomination before it could lunge forward. It roared out in pain as it tried to free itself, massive claws scratching the ice in an attempt to break it off. Mathias looked in Elsa's direction surprise evident in his eyes then turned to horror as he looked back at his foe who was looking at her angrily as it was almost freed. He rushed forward realizing who it was going after, he roared out in an attempt to warn her but it had already broke free and began to charge after Elsa who was frozen in place as she watched the creature get closer before Mathias got infront of her, his spiked back facing the abomination as it impaled itself again. Its head was over Mathias' shoulder trying to snap at Elsa to no avail and it's shadow can't harm her much to Mathias' relive as he held it back with difficulty till he fell to his hands making sure Elsa was away from the abominations jaws and shadow. He looked at her almost pleadingly and she knew what he was wanting her to do but she didn't want to leave him alone with that monster. With a roar he slowly got up in attempt to get the creature off his back but with a sickening sound it slid off his spikes and fell into the earth with a growl. With his massive his tail he slammed it onto the beasts chest making sure it stayed down and looked back at Elsa.
"Please Elsa go this isn't your fight, i don't know what you are trying to prove but you don't need to prove anything, nothing has changed about how i feel about you. You're a strong woman with a special gift and a great ruler and your people love you. You've been through so much in your life, suffered the loss of your parents and still remained strong for your sister the only family you have left what do you think will happen if you die here? You'll be leaving Anna, Christian, Kristoff, alone and they need you right now and so do your people." He said hoping she would go but she looked bewildered as she looked up to him as if she heard every word he had said to her. The beast roared as it got back up recovering from the last blow it's eyes glowing in rage before three bolts of lighting struck it down. Mathias narrowed his eyes as he looked up to the skies searching for the source a dark shadow flew down from the clouds and landed hundred yards from him. It took a second to realize what and who it was as he growled getting between it and Elsa hoping to block it's view of her. It's scales seemed to be made out of gold as it revealed it's three draconic heads as it stood it's full height. Mathias roared in rage his voice booming through the air as he glared at it.
The group on the ridge watched the scene before them, shock evident on their faces except Helios who smiled upon himself. It's been such a long time since he last seen him he knew he wouldn't want someone else to conquer the world he believed he was destined to rule and remake in his own image. Anna noticed this and narrowed her eyes on him catching his attention.
"That's Ghidorah, they have been rivals for a very long time, but at one point in time the two fought side by side till they became enemies to one another." Helios said, arms crossed but Anna seemed concerned.
"And if that's so then why is he here?" Jonathan spoke up concerned as he walked up behind Anna. The whole group seemed concerned as they awaited his response. Helios soon realized his mistake and looked out in horror at the two as they had a standoff.
"I..I awakened him in hopes that he would help. If they could put their differences aside they would be able to work together to stop this chaos. If they fight now then all will be lost, there will be nothing left to save." He said as he stepped forward as the wind picked up, the abomination was getting back up and the two were unaware. Mathias' back began to glow blue and his eyes light up as he charged forward towards Ghidorah, both roaring at one another. Helios sprung forward as fire enveloped his body turning back into his true self as he landed between the two stopping them in their tracks.
"Enough! Now isn't the time for this!" He roared out at the two then turned his attention towards the abomination and lunged forward before it could attack Mathias from behind. Ghidorah looked on with his three heads in interest as the two fought then turned his attention towards Mathias who still glared at him.
"Killing you is my right and i won't let a creature such as this take that away from me. For now i'll assist you just think if at as old times." The three heads said in union causing Mathias to growl showing his teeth.
"You and i have different views of the old days but for now Helios is right, now isn't the time. We can't allow that abomination to live." He said as the two turned their attention to the red beast who was gaining the upper hand on Helios, it's teeth sank into his neck causing the white dragon to roar in pain. Mathias rushed forward using his body weight to shove it away from Helios catching the beast by surprise. Ghidorah took flight into the air waiting for his opportunity, his three heads searching for weaknesses with their sharp vision. He was caught off guard when it took flight heading towards him at great speed, jaws wide open in hopes to bite into his flesh. The right head fired a bolt of lighting before it got any closer, the blast struck it in the face as it roared out in pain falling back to the ground where Mathias was waiting. His spikes glowed even brighter before he unleashed his burning assault, the flames scorching the back of the beast before it hit the ground but didn't let let up till it stopped moving. Blue fire engulfed the body making it harder for him to see anything till it lunged out anger in it's eyes before Ghidorah swooped down gripping it in his claws digging into its bones along the neck then let go letting his three spiked tails to slam into the beast's side as he flew over it. The red dragon looked up and roared in fury unaware of Helios charging forward as his hand slammed the beast's head down into the earth with great force. The beast tried desperately to free itself from Helio's powerful grip to no avail till it was once again engulfed in flames from Helios. It's serrated tail rose up and lounged forward stabbing Helios in his right leg causing the dragon to roar out in pain as he lost his grip on the abomination falling to his side. Before it could finish the job Mathias swung his mighty tail slamming it on the beasts skull causing it to crack on the right side from the force. Mathias roared angrily as he began to move forward, hot air flared from his nostrils.
Elsa watched in disbelief but took this opportunity to get away as she began to run before Ghidorah landed in front of her causing her to stagger back in fear but he took off again in the air towards the battle to give Mathias aid, one of his tails narrowingly missed her by a few feet. She looked back and seen the golden dragon use it's tails to restrain the beast from moving much with such ease giving Mathias his opportunity to strike it. His claws slashing at its chest and neck causing the beast to roar in pain, the glowing red mist in its body began to fade a bit. Elsa cringed but turned away to head back to the ridge in haste, the battle thundered in the air and seemed to be moving closer to her but she didn't dare to look back. Two massive bodies slammed into the ground and rolled about from the corner of her vision seen the golden dragon and the red abomination not far from her. The three headed dragon was pinned despite it's three heads snapping at it's body but not being able to connect to anything. Elsa watched as the beast reared its head and roared as if it had won. She glared at it and summoned her power, raising her had forward as her magic shot out hitting the beast in the left eye causing ice to form on and around it. The beast roared angrily as it clawed at its face removing the ice and glared down at her with it's bright yellow eyes. Elsa glared back at it as frost formed around her fingertips as she slowly stepped back as it stepped forward getting of the dragon's body. It charged forward before Elsa could react, Mathias stepped in front of her grabbing the beast slowly sliding back as he sank his teeth into its neck. His tail swung wildly from side to side as he concentrated on keeping it away from Elsa. Ghidorah rolled over slowly before standing his full height, three heads glaring down at the beast who's back was facing towards him. In union the three heads fired streaks of lightning that hit the abomination in the back, the force knocked both Mathias and the abomination over to their sides. Elsa couldn't see anything from the heavy amount dust in the air but she was able to make out the large body in front of her as Mathias. A large hand landed heavily on his body and she gasped when the abomination rose up and looked down upon her as the dust started to clear. It roared showing it's serrated teeth as it moved closer towards her it's shadow eroding the ground. Everything seemed to slow down as the beast lounged forward it's jaws open causing Elsa to close her eyes waiting for her end. Helios despite his wounded leg charged in grabbing her in his palm shielding her from the shadow as he limped over to the ridge, carefully setting Elsa down on the ground where she was quickly pulled into a hug by her sister.
"Elsa don't you ever do anything like that again!" Anna yelled at her older sister angrily who looked at her wide eyed but soon softened as she returned her sister's embrace realizing how worried her sister was about her safety. Helios watched them till he was pulled away from them, the beast had it's jaws clamped on his wounded leg as it dragged him before slashing away at the torso causing the great dragon to roar out in pain. Ghidorah watched what had transpired and turned one of his heads towards the ridge, eyes set on the blonde woman which Mathias and Helios saved. He knew the human helped him but never knew of a human having such abilities like hers. He honestly thought Helios was telling lies till he witnessed it before his very eyes.
"If she dies at the hands of this beast her powers will cover the world in eternal ice? But how did a mere human gain such power to rival us.. to rival me!?" He thought to himself as his other two heads roared out catching the beasts attention as it moved away from Helios. Mathias was starting to stand up with difficulty, his amber eyes glowing with anger as it glared at the red beast. Helios laid still, blood seeping out of his wounds and onto the ground further angering Mathias even more. Despite its attention on Ghidorah, Mathias roared out in fury and charged forward pinning the beast to the ground, his left clawed hand reached into its body slashing away at the glowing red mist. He narrowed his eyes and clamped his mighty jaws on its neck growling as he tried to keep the beast still. Ghidorah noticed this and realized what he was trying to attempt and noticed the red mist began to fade a bit. Without hesitation he rushed forward wrapping his tails around the beast keeping it from struggling as Mathias began to drain its energy. His whole body began to glow the more energy he absorbed. The beast began to lose the red mist and the once fiery life within its eyes started to fade to darkness till Mathias finally let go, the energy overflowing within him and with a mighty roar an explosion of energy burst forth spreading everywhere blowing Ghidorah away and turning what was left of the abomination to dust. The group of people on the ridge took cover from the blast as it blew over them, the noise of the blast was deafening till immediately all was silent. Where the grass used to be turned to ash as they looked around, the battlefield where the titans fought was leveled except in the middle where Mathias stood in a crater, smoke coming off his body as he stood panting from exhaustion. Helios slowly rose up from the dirt and debri as did Ghidorah, the three heads glared at Mathias in spite but looked around for any signs of the abomination surviving the explosion.
Elsa watched with tears in her eyes as she watched her beloved slowly walk away from the crater, his massive tail dragging behind him. Her memories of the times she spent with him came into her mind leading to this moment, him being there changed her world and in some ways quite literally. Her heart pounded in her chest as she looked on with a small smile on her lips as the rest of the group cheered at the top of their lungs. The three headed dragon roared silencing the group before taking flight, the middle head looked directly at her as it reached higher altitude and she looked back in confusion. Mathias noticed this and turned his head and roared as the other titan disappeared into the clouds. Helios in his human body slowly approached them limping on his right leg.
"Guess today isn't judgement day, probably for the best, last time they fought almost brought humanity to near annihilation." He said and the group stared at him wide eyed in disbelief as he finally reached them. Elsa looked in Mathias direction seeing that he was still walking toward the coast with his head hanging low, she grew concerned when she seen his eyes. They seemed more dull then she remembered as they were always glowing in a way almost like all the fight had left him completely. She heard the group walking down and quickly turned to follow them, hearing Anna asking Kristoff about Christian like any mother would about their children. More people awaited them at the coast relieved of the royal sisters safe return. Jonathan noticed Helios' wounds and looked around at the men.
"Someone get this guy bandaged up." He ordered causing Helios to look at him in disbelief but accepted the help. Jonathan watched him but had a few questions to ask him about the other titan.
"Will we be seeing him again? If he still looking for a grudge match with Mathias i need to know." He asked concerned but Helios shook his head and smiled up at the man.
"Not in your lifetime, he's as badly injured as the rest of us. He's going to be resting for a while before he goes after him, specially after this." He said and Jonathan was relieved a bit knowing another battle like the one he had witnessed won't be happening anytime soon. Something caught the corner of his eye and turned his head to see Hans, his body burnt and his eyes blood red running towards Elsa who's back was turned talking to her sister.
"Queen Elsa behind you!" He yelled catching her attention as she heard Hans yelling running faster reaching his arm out.
"I will kill you!" He yelled angrily catching the rest of the group's attention. Helios seen a blue light brightening up over head behind the madman and looked at their direction, eyes widened in shock knowing what was about to happen but the two siblings were in front of Hans.
"Take cover now!" He yelled out pulling the nearest men down with him. Elsa seen the blue light and covered herself and Anna in a thick shield of ice seconds before the blinding light of fire, enveloped them and Hans. She struggled to keep up the barrier from the extreme heat but could her Hans scream in agony till he became silent as the fire went away. Slowly everyone got up as Elsa and Anna emerged behind the frozen barrier looking at the place where Hans once was. The sand had became shattered glass and the hill had a half a hole where Mathias stood behind it the light on his back slowly died down as he looked at them that seemed like concern. Elsa looked up at him her body shaking from adrenaline but stepped forward looking at him pleadingly. He flared his nostrils and unleashed a roared but she knew it wasn't threatening, she noticed the spikes along his back and tail beginning to glow blue again as he reared his head up as a blue flames shot up into the air above the clouds pushing them away to reveal the clear blue sky. Everyone watched in awe till it died down and watched him walk into the ocean and soon disappeared into the sea. Elsa ran forward with tears in her eyes screaming out to him but nothing, everyone was quiet the only sound was the waves crashing onto the shore. Helios walked up to her resting a hand on her shoulder causing her to look at him.
"Give him some time, i have reason to believe that he never wanted you to see this side of him for fear of you resenting him for what he is. He'll return back to you, he just needs to clear his head after all of this." He said in attempt to reassure her as Anna walked passed him to comfort her sibling. He looked out to the horizon and walked away from them turning back into his true self, spreading his mighty wings setting off into the air flying back to his home leaving them to have their own journey back to their home.
Things weren't the same at Arendelle especially in the castle walls, everyone was worried about Elsa. It had been a month since they last seen Mathias and Elsa seemed to have lost all emotions as she kept herself busy as queen. Anna and Kristoff tried their best to cheer her up to no avail, not even Olaf when he visited them from the North Mountain could bring a smile upon her face. Anna knew how badly her sister was hurting and could hear her crying almost every night since then and it broke her heart. Deep down she wished Mathias was here with them despite their differences they had gotten close over time, and it seemed her son missed him as well.
Elsa was in her study with a pile documents on her desk reading and signing each one individually, her mind lost in so many thoughts when a loud rumble caught her attention. Her eyes widened as she rushed to the window scattering documents all over the floor. Arendelle was cover in mist when she looked out the window searching till she heard it again getting closer. She could hear the people shouting and she hurried out of the study and into the hall as Kristoff almost ran passed her with Anna in tow carrying their child in her arms.
"You heard it too?" Elsa asked them excitement building up inside her as she seen them nod as they rushed out the castle towards the pier. There was a large crowd but they quickly made room for them especially for Elsa as she quickly moved to the front looking out in attempt to see him.
"Where are you Mathias?" She asked herself but it was quickly answered as she spotted a large shadowed figure approach them slowly revealing Mathias. The crowd cheered as Elsa tried her best to contain the tears that were beginning to form in her eyes, her heart ached to be in his arms to feel his touch after so long as a smile formed on her lips. Mathias stood over them and slowly knelt down, his snout near Elsa as he looked at her with his amber eyes once again burning with life as they seemed to glow in the mist. Slowly she reached up sliding her hand on the right side of his snout causing him to crackle as he took a breath. His skin was rough to her touch as she felt his skin, he slightly leaned into her touch. The crowd was silent letting them enjoy their precious moment watching as Elsa rested her forehead on his snout. His body began to glow blue blinding everyone including her till it revealed Mathias floating in the water a toothy grin on his face as he looked up at her. She chuckled a bit and knelt down neither one speaking a word for a moment.
"Do you plan to get out of the water Mathias?" She asked teasingly but the man continued to smile as he reached up gently grabbing her arm before pulling her in causing her to shriek in surprise as she fell into the water. She reemerged laughing as she glared at him and could hear people chuckling among themselves on the pier.
"To answer your question Elsa i need clothes first if you want me out of the water." He said causing her to blush in embarrassment but he gently lifted her up allowing her to get back on the pier. She looked at the people her face still flushed as she tried to regain her composure.
"Can someone please get him some clothes?" She asked causing them to laugh but Abigail walked out of the crowd with some clothing smiling sheepishly as she handed them to her along with towels for the both of them.
"I figured he'd be needed them." She said and Elsa thanked her as Mathias slowly pulled himself up quickly grabbing one of the towels covering himself as he sat down next to Elsa. Her hand reached out grabbing his hand as she looked at him in longing.
"Will you be leaving again?" She asked her voice a hushed whisper, Mathias looked at her for a long moment before he reached up cupping her cheek, gently pulling her towards him as their lips met, the kiss seemed to last a lifetime before they pulled apart both catching their breath.
"I won't be leaving you again Elsa, as long as you are still willing to have me in your life i won't be going anywhere..." He said then trailed off trying to find the right words to say then looked towards the crowd directly at Kristoff who raised a brow at him.
"Kristoff what's that thing you humans do when you want them to be with you for a lifetime before the wedding happens?" Mathias asked him leaving Kristoff confused before he finally realized what he was talking about and smirked.
"You get on one knee and ask them to marry you." Kristoff said as the crowd gasped but smiled knowingly. Elsa starred at him shocked as he gestured her to stand up as he got on one knee holding her right hand looking up into her blue eyes.
"I don't have a ring or anything but while i was wondering about i couldn't stop thinking about you. I thought of every way to make it right so here i am before you today with no other way to express how much i love you despite what i am and i truly want you to be apart of my life. Queen Elsa of Arendelle will you marry me?" He asked her with a smile but she stood there silent making him nervous before she lounged down wrapping her arms around his neck with a big smile showing her white teeth tears falling down the sides of her cheeks. She pulled back and crashed her lips to his catching him off guard before she pulled back, her cheeks were flushed as she smiled at him causing his heart to race knowing her answer.
"Yes i would love to marry you Mathias."
