Chapter 42: Finally

They stole kisses from each other whenever they could. Until Lena tore Shizuka away for the western tradition of throwing the flower bouquet. Genji had no idea what that was about, so he settled down next to Jesse to watch the proceedings with a bemused smile on his face.

Shizuka positioned herself with her back to the other women attending the wedding, who Lena had dragged over in record timing. Even Ýri hadn't been spared and was now being positioned next to a disgruntled Mercy.

Suddenly a black and blue blur shot past him directly towards Ýri and Genji could hear the muttered words of his brother.

»No-one steals from a dragon!«

He chuckled. Lena had obviously ripped the Viking away from Hanzo, which the Shimada was not ok with.

With a last shrug over the strange custom, Shizuka threw the flowers.

Only mere seconds later Lena's excited shouts of »I got them!« were replaced by furious outcries.

Genji couldn't help himself, he burst out laughing when he noticed the reason for her indignation.

In the middle of the crowd of women stood his brother, who plucked the flowers from his person.

»Hey! Watch where you throw that thing«, his disgruntled voice carried over.

Everyone started laughing. Even Ýri couldn't keep it from slipping past her defenses. Obviously no-one had ever told Hanzo that whoever caught the bouquet would be the next person to marry.

Still chuckling Genji put an arm around his wife, who came over again wearing the same amused expression as him.

»This wedding is just perfect«, Genji told her as they watched Lena now ranting on Hanzo for daring to catch the flowers before she had been able to. His brother only yelled back at her for daring to snatch Ýri away from him.

Finally Ýri took pity on him and explained the tradition to him. After which Hanzo threw the flowers into Lenas face with a beet-red face.

»Hey brother! What color do you want your wedding dress to be?«, Genji called out when Hanzo took his girlfriend's hand and led her away from the crowd.

His brother froze and turned to face Genji. »What?!«, he screeched horrified.

Next to him Ýri did a poor job of stifling her giggles. »Oh, that is an interesting thought«, she said while stealing a glance at Hanzo's body, probably already imagining the silly thought and poor Hanzo only went paler.

»Absolutely not!«, he protested loudly.

As they continued their playful squabble, Lena flashed up to him and Shizuka again.

»It's time for the newly-weds first dance!«, she singsonged.

Knowing it was fruitless to get in the way of Lena and her plans, Genji put a last kiss on his wife's head before offering her his hand. »Shall we my dear?«

She smiled, »With pleasure«, and took his hand.

They had danced together countless times before. The kimonos made things harder, but since it wasn't supposed to be an elaborate dance they managed flawlessly this time as well.

Next to them Reinhardt was trying to coerce Ýri into dancing with him. The result was rather funny to watch. Especially when Genji spotted Hanzo standing a few feet away glaring at Reinhardt.

»Come on, lass! Grant that old man a dance!«, Reinhardt boomed.

Ýri tried to wave him off. »You really don't want that. I am rather terrible«, she admitted nervously.

»Nonsense! Everyone can dance!«, Reinhardt argued and with that just dragged her out onto the dancefloor. Hanzo's glare got even worse at that.

Shizuka chuckled as well. »You have way too much fun at your brother's expense.«

Genji grinned back. »That's what little brothers are for.«

They continued to dance along to the music and watch a rather clumsy Ýri being passed around almost all the guys in a vain effort to teach her how to dance without breaking everyone's toes. Until Hanzo finally had enough and took over as her dance partner. Strangely enough, with him it seemed to work.

Genji pulled Shizuka closer. »Finally alone«, he whispered into her ear.

»I wouldn't call this alone, my love«, she teased back.

He groaned. »Fine. We're finally far enough from Mercy so that she won't nag at me again. Better?«

»A little«, came her playful reply.

He slowed their pace down and his voice became darker. »Do you think us far enough away that we could slip away unnoticed?«, he asked.

For a moment there was silence, before she answered. »There is still Lena. She will notice immediately if we leave before the dinner let alone the cake. So, no.«

Genji groaned. »Dammit. I waited long enough already to get you out of that kimono.« His words were followed by his hand on her back slowly sliding downwards.

But his wife was already used to his tactics by now and calmly put his hand back to its original place. »And I am afraid you will have to wait a while longer for it.«

He pouted. »Why? As your husband it is my duty to see to all your needs.«

»And you will have plenty of time for that. Later«, she responded evenly.

»Why not now?«, Genji whined.

She nodded her head in the direction of their guests. »Because we still have a party going on.«

He pouted. »Fine, fine. But after the cake, surely-«

»Genji«, she said sternly yet not without kindness.

»What? I bet no-one besides Lena and Mercy will fault us for disappearing early. It is our wedding after all.«

She chuckled. »Exactly. Which is why we can't just leave in the middle of it to go ravish each other.«

He carefully twirled her around the dancefloor. »I disagree.«

Pressing her close again with the next move, he put both arms around her.

»My love«, she spoke barely audible, »I do not want our first time as husband and wife to be rushed along.«

He put their foreheads together, now only slightly swinging to the music. »Not even a little?«

She smiled. »Not even a little. I want it to be special.«

»But it is always special«, he said with a hint of teasing.

A kiss on his cheek was all he got in return. »Just be patient a little longer, my love.«

He grumbled. »Easier said than done.«

She laughed and gave him another kiss. »Let's grab some cake.«

»Finally! The sooner the better«, he exclaimed and proceeded to all but carry her over to where Lena was already arranging the magnificent cake. Or cakes more exactly. Almost everyone had a cake to themselves, because Emily couldn't decide which one she would rather bake for the occasion. So everyone got to voice their preferences. Only no-one could foresee that she would actually make them all.

»They look wonderful, Emily. Thank you«, Shizuka said and Genji nodded in agreement.

»You really have outdone yourself«, he added.

Emily blushed and leaned against Lena. »I am glad you like them.«

»So what are we waiting for?! Let's cut them open!«, Lena shouted with her usual enthusiasm. Genji seriously believed that she hasn't stopped vibrating with energy for the entire day so far. As long as it wouldn't get in the way of his plans for the night, Genji didn't mind though.

After the cake had been cut and passed around with a few more pictures added to the wedding album the newly weds took a moment to breathe and retreated to the edge of the party grounds.

Together they watched as Lena and Emily claimed the dance floor for themselves and Winston stuff himself with the left cakes. Torbjörn and his daughter shared a barrel of mead with Reinhardt and Mercy and the others quietly talked to each other.

They even saw a rather messed up looking Ýri with two slices of cake vanishing again and two watchful dragons hovering after her.

Genji raised an eyebrow at the sight. »Strange«, he mused.

Shizuka made a questioning hum.

»Well, most of the time only one of his dragons is following her. But now both of them are tailing after her like overprotective puppies«, he explained.

Shizuka shrugged, seemingly not bothered by the odd sight. »So? They just want to be close to her. Just like your dragons want to be close to me. Hanzo's just can't merge with her like yours did with me.«

The explanation was sound, but Genji couldn't shake the feeling that there was more to the story than that. »True. But the way they are clueing on her heels, they seem to fear that she could drop dead any moment«, he continued.

She watched Ýri a while longer, and then chuckled when Jesse tried to talk to her, only to be growled at by two angry dragons. »They only protect her from Jesse. Which is completely normal considering how Hanzo and Jesse are competing over her.«

Genji put an arm around her. »I guess you are right«, he relented.

A smirk grazed her lovely lips. »I am always right«, she teased.

»As you say, my lady«, he replied in the same playful tone.

»I told you I am no lady«, she chastised gently.

In answer he kissed the top of her head. »You are my lady now.«

She giggled at his sappy line. »Shizuka Shimada. Never thought I'd like the sound of that«, she admitted.

A smug grin made its way onto his face. »Never underestimate alliterations.«

That caused her to burst out laughing.

Genji leaned back and pulled her closer. Nothing could ruin this moment for him.

Of course, that was the cue for Lena to show up.

»Come on guys! We still have a lot planned until dinner!«, she said and tried to made them get up from their comfortable spot under the tree.

He groaned. »Lena … «

She shook her head. »No buts! Up you get!«

Left with no other choice they did as ordered.

»Come on, love, let's dance some more«, Shizuka said and dragged him away from Lena.

»Sure«, he agreed, »It's the only way we can have some privacy around here.«

»Indeed«, she said and pressed her body closer against his.

A soft, but warning growl escaped him. »Don't tempt me too much my dear.«

She smirked, knowing exactly what she did. »Why not?«

»Because at some point I will simply drag you away from here without a care«, he promised.

Shizuka though, wasn't deterred in the slightest. »I doubt that«, she all but purred.

»Just keep provoking me like that and find out yourself. By the way: How much do you like this kimono?«, he asked.

»Very much so«, came the answer.

Genji cursed. »Damn!«

His wife giggled at his crestfallen look.

»It is handmade after all«, she explained, »What? Is it not to your liking?«

»Oh it is. Nevertheless I can't help but think of the fastest way to get it off you«, he admitted with a dark purr.

»Well first you … «, she started a lengthy explanation on how to remove a kimono even though Genji knew all the steps fairly well. He once lived in Japan in a traditional yakuza ring after all.

»That's it«, he pronounced suddenly, interrupting her, »We have to skip dinner.«

The following look of confusion on her face was absolutely adorable. »Pardon?«, she asked.

»Because I will need all that time to get that thing off you«, he stated.

She chuckled. »I am afraid Lena won't accept that excuse at all.«

He growled. »But there has to be something she accepts.«

»Goddammit, just go!«, Jesse suddenly yelled from right next to them. If it weren't for his ninja training, Genji was sure he would have jumped a few feet into the air. Then the words registered in his brain.

»Wait, really?«

Jesse groaned. »Really. Go. I will cover for you«, he told them. »Now go before I change my mind«, he continued.

Genji looked at his wife. »Do you agree?«

His friend piped up again. »Please say yes. I've heard enough horny dragon whines back when we shared a room in Overwatch's golden times to last a lifetime.«

That got him a glare from said horny dragon.

Shizuka blushed. »Let's just go.«

»Wonderful!«, Genji shouted and picked her up in the next moment. Bridal style of course.

»Oh, thank god, you have a different place to stay the night«, Jesse said.

Genji smirked. »Better get yourself earplugs, my friend. I won't guarantee anything.«

Shizuka looked from one male to the other, confused. »Why would he need those?«

Jesse started laughing and Genji tried his hardest not to groan. Her obliviousness was cute at times but sometimes it really put a dent in his plans.

»Have fun tonight, mates. Looks like I worried for nothing«, Jesse brought out between his laughter.

Genji threw him another glare.

Not bothered at all, Jesse waved them off. »Just go. I will find a way to distract Lena.«

»Thanks bunches«, Genji said and adjusted his grip on his precious price.

With not a minute to spare he marched off towards his destination.

Shizuka stared at him. »Are you sure you can do this?«, she asked.

»Of course. You are not that heavy«, he defended his male pride.

She only chuckled. »Says the guy, who dropped me once.«

He huffed. »Will you ever let that go?«

She grinned. »Never.«

He groaned good-naturedly and continued on his way.

»May I ask where you are taking me?«

»It's a surprise«, he answered with his own grin.

Thankfully it was one that Lena had no part in, since Emily had warned him about her plans beforehand. That way he had enough time to assemble proper wedding night quarters and simultaneously avoid whatever horrors Lena had prepared in the bedroom of their own quarters.

Now he only had to take Shizuka there and hopefully spend the rest of the night with her without further interruptions.

He couldn't wait.
