Chapter 20: Good Luck with Twilight
When we arrived in Port Angelas we parked a couple of stores down from the dress store and walked the rest of the way. Before we entered the store I back trying to remember where to go first.
"Come on Jessica." The other Jessica said. I turned around and went into the store along with the others. As they tried on dress after dress I grew antsy.
"Jessica! What do you think?" The other Jessica asked about the hot pink dress that she was currently wearing.
"That looks really good." I said as I looked at it. I wasn't really paying attention to them. I was just waiting for the right time to leave, however looking at the expression on Jessica's face I have to have better responses to her questions.
"It looks good because..." I started as I examined the dress more closely. "It compliments your curves." I said and she smiled and looked down at herself. Yeah... I know what looks good. Jessica turned around to the mirror.
"Totally! My chest looks so good in this!" She said. Lauren gave her a smile and Angela chuckled. (Clank!)(Clank!) We all turned around to see four guys watching us through the big glass window that showed off the store. They were looking Jessica up and down because she was in an easily to spot.
"Oh! I like that!" One of them . They looked like gross middle aged men with pasty faces and grotty five o'clock shadows. You could tell that they drunk way to much.
"Jerks." Lauren said as they left.
"That was very uncomfortable." I mumbled and looked down at my phone when it vibrated. I touched my figure on my messages and read the message.
"Head to the store now. I'll instruct you on where to go." It read. My heart stopped. This is it. I got up on my feet and felt my legs wanted so badly to tremble.
"Hey guys before we live Port Angelas I going to check out this book store." I said and they all looked over at me.
"Are you sure you don't want us to come with you." Angela asked.
"No it's alright, i'll be fine. I always walk around repeatedly before I can decide what I want. I'll just end up annoying you." I said with a hint of humor.
"Okay, just be careful." Jessica said.
"Alright, bye see ya later." I said leaving. After I left the store John texted me my first instruction and I smiled. I started to walk to the book store with a lush of excitement. I looked down at the sidewalk that was lit up by the street lights and then I watched the stores as I passed by them. Most of them were very bright boutiques like the one I just came from. After a while of following instructions I saw the book store come into view. I started to walk faster until my steps turned into a jog. Then I walked up the ramp that led to the door and went inside.
"Welcome." The Native America clerk said when I entered. I gave him a small smile and nod. Then my phone vibrated.
"I'm in the back of the mystery aisle." It read. I looked up at the signs that hung above the ceiling above the isles. They went from comedy to romance than finally mystery. I stood in front of the aisle and looked at the end of it. I saw wooden tables and chairs. I head very few noises as I walked to the back of the isle, then when I finally reached the tables and chairs I found them all empty. Where was John? I wondered then I felt a hand on the small of my back and gasped then turned around. I saw that it was John and I smiled at him. He was dressed in a brown coat with a gray shirt that could be seen underneath and wore black jeans with it. He smiled down at me warmly.
"Hey." I said a little excited.
"Hi, how have you been?" He asked. I already know that he knows how i've been already. I guess he was just being polite. My gut twisted in anxiousness.
"You already know." I said smiling.
"Not really that much. I do let people have some privacy." He said as he walked me to a chair then sat down himself. I crossed my arms and leaned on the round table and he leaned back comfortably back on his chair.
"So," He said then looked at me with serious eyes. "What is your decision?" He asked. I closed my eyes two seconds and took in a silent breath. Then I looked at him.
"I have decided, to stay." I nodding slowly. He smiled at me then. And I felt the feeling of relief wash over my mind. John leaded towards the table and reached over and took my hand.
"Are you sure? After this I can't promise you that there will be a way out." He asked me. I nodded quickly.
"Yes." I said completely sure of themselves. He nodded and chuckled.
"Look at you, you're already growing." He said. I looked up from our warm hands to him.
"What do you mean?" I asked curious. He rubbed his thumb on my hand a little.
"Before, you were so careful and afraid that even in simple decisions you struggled with the answer. And even when you would finally decide on something it would be to late to do anything. This time you didn't do that. You may have put a lot of thought into this decision but you were honest with yourself. You saw what you wanted and knew that you would have to fight for it. And now you're stepping into it. You're even braver then when we met." He said with a smile. I looked at him with my mouth slightly opened. Then he stood up and came over to me and kissed my cheek in a swift friendly manner. I blushed and stood up to."I hope you become as happy as I have. Did I tell you that I met someone?" He asked. I shook my head. "Well I have. And she's amazing. I think that I will spend eternity with her." He said. I opened my eyes wider and gave him a smile.
"That's great!" I said squeezing his hand a little. He nodded smiling than he looked towards the store and then back at me.
"You should go pick out a book. I know that you still like reading."He said and I nodded agreeing.
"I do." I said. Then he came closer to me.
"When you leave this store your life will really began. But don't worry. I will be still watching you." He said. I nodded to him happy with what he said. He's kinda like a parent. He took a step back.
"Goodbye." He said turning to leave. I didn't want him to go yet.
"Wait." I called in a hushed voice. He turned back to me and I went over to him and put my arms through the spacing between his arms and hugged him, then he embraced me back."Thank you." I said into his neck. I felt him nod. After a couple of seconds we pulled back and he looked down at me.
"You really should go looking for that book now." He said with a cheerful expression.
"Okay." I said with a smile on my face. The I watched him walk out of the mystery section and not long after I heard the door's bells ring. I looked back down at the table and smiled to myself. After a second more I started to look around the store for a book. And where did my feet take me. The non-fiction section. Which is weird because I never look in the non-fiction section. I looked down the aisle then suddenly something caught my eye. It was a flower trapped in between a book. I walked up to it and saw that it wasn't just any flower, but my favorite one. A yellow rose that had dark purple curled edges. I went to pull it out but it being in between a book I pulled them both out. I flipped open the book and took the rose out and smelled it. I smelled like an alluring perfume, but I knew that it was its nature smell. When I was a kid I thought that all flowers smelled like dirt, I know why they smell different now that i'm older, but i'm glad that they do. Still holding the rose up to my nose I looked down at the pages that it was in between. It had poems written in it. I looked closer at one page and read a couple of lines.
"I met a forceful light this year,
Burned hot and short,
Reddened my ears.
She radiated, glowing, warmth."
I smiled down at the book. So that's why he wanted me to go look for a book. I took the book to the front desk.
"Excuse me?" I asked lifting up the book in my hand. "I'd like to buy this book." I said hand the book to the Native American clerk.
"Oh, this one?" He asked looking up at me. I nodded. "You must be Jessica." He said. My eyebrows pulled together slightly and I nodded. "Yeah, your friend already pain for this for you, along with book he told me to give to you." He said handing me a book from behind the counter and showed me the book. The Guide to Reaching a Home Run:For Women My eyebrows rose and my mouth was slightly agape. Really John? Really? I thought to myself. The clerk gave me a smug look. Oh mi gosh. I took both of the books off of the counter after the clerk bagged them.
"Thank you." I said a little embarrassed. He nodded.
"Come again please." He said then went back to his computer.
I walked to the front door and put my hand on the handle. Before I opened it I put my head down. This is it, I thought. Then I pushed open that door and walked into the fate that awaited me. Twilight. Then I leaned onto the blue chippy painted railing that was on the ramp outside of the book store. I looked out to the parking lot and then I thought of his name. Edward.
