Chapter 26: A Ride with a Friend

I woke up the next morning feeling more relieved than usual. Seconds after I opened my eyes I thought of Edward and smiled. Although everything wasn't completely out in the open between us we were friends and that was very great way to start a nice relationship with him. Hopefully in time that will change.

As I got ready for school I thought about the exchange between Edward and I last night. I smiled bashfully as I remembered giving him a kiss before he left! Oh god! Okay so even though most of what happened was embarrassing, which is a feeling I can't stand when it is present, it was completely worth it. He was completely worth it.

When I started combing my bang out my cell started to ringed. I walked from the bathroom to my room and picked it up from my bed. The screen that was lighting up showed the caller ID which was labeled 'dad' so I answered it.

"Hey dad." I said.

"Hey Jessica! I'm sorry but i'm going to be a little late. I was helping to get some tile floors finished by today." He said. I shut my eyes tightly. I swear sometimes he forgets that he has a family. I turned towards my window and sighed. To my surprise I saw a silver Volvo out in the front of my house.

"Hold on for a minute dad." I said.

"O-okay." He said sounding distracted. He must be on he phone while he's still working. I walked fast out of my room and went down stairs to the front door and went outside. As I stood on the porch for a moment I realized that I forgot my jacket so I started to freeze. I walked across the lawn and Edward got out of his car. he did it with such flare that it looked like he was going in slow motion for a few seconds. He looked at me with a perfectly raised dark eyebrow and I saw that his eyes were not as bright as usual. Hmm.

"Shouldn't you be wearing a jacket?" He asked me. However I should be the one asking questions at this time.

"Edward, what are you doing here?" I asked with a as I came to stand right in front of him.

"I wanted to give a friend a ride to school." He said. I looked out towards the neighborhood street and its houses before I turned back to him.

"Really?" I asked.

Yeah." He handsomely chuckled. I bit the side of my lip as my smile widened, then I my pointer finger and pointed to the back of my cell phone so he couldn't see the front of it. And then I pressed to my ear.

"Hey dad?" I spoke into the phone but I received no answer. "Dad?" I said louder.

"Yeah!" He finally answered.

"It's okay, you don't have to come. I got a ride with a friend." I said while smiling over at Edward.

"A friend?" He asked.

"Yeah, from school." I said in a casual way so he wouldn't treat as a big deal.

"Uh, okay. But call me once you get to school." He said.

"Okay dad, bye." I said before hanging up the phone and putting it in my jean pocket. A gust a wind blew right through me and I shivered before looking bring my gaze back to Edward.

"Do you want to come inside. I haven't eaten breakfast yet." I asked him and he gave me a nod.

"Sure." He said and I smiled at his answer. I really am going to enjoy being around him.

We walked back to my house said by side before we walked to the front door. Edward motioned with his arm for me to walk inside after he opened the door for me. I might never get over how polite he is, it just feels so weird to be taken care of. After I walked into the house Edward followed after me and shut the door behind. I looked at him tentatively before showing him to the kitchen.

"The kitchen is this way..." I said before we walked into the kitchen and I then turned to him. "Do you want anything?" I asked him.

"No, I already ate." He said sitting down at the kitchen table and then he looked around the kitchen and at the kitchen's entrance.

"You're still here by yourself." He asked. I looked at him for a moment before I went to the freezer and got out a box of cinnamon waffles.

"Yeah, my mom is at the hospital with my sister and my dad is at work." I said as I sat three waffles on a plate and put them into the microwave.

"What wrong with your mom?" He asked me as he leaned back on the chair with one arm still on the table. I pushed the numbers into the microwave and started it.

"Nothing is wrong with my mother. It's my sister." I said sitting down in the chair right across from him.

"And what's the matter with her?" He asked.

"She has Lupus." I said. Edward scowled a little with his eyebrows and he leaned towards me.

"That's a virus right? I makes the body weaker." He said. I nodded at his information before speaking.

"Yeah and painful joints. It doesn't help that the shingles virus is accompanying it and making her face flare up. Okay talking about makes me get a little emotional so I took a deep breath and I looked up at Edward to see him nod at me. Then his gaze became more intense.

"I'm sorry." He said and I shook me head.

"It's nobodies fault." I said.

"And you have to be here alone all the time." He said and eyes expressed how not okay he was with that. I was flattered by how much he cares.

"They haven't been gone that long. Besides even when they are here i'm in my room most of the time anyway. So until i come out it doesn't really feel like nothings changed. Thought I do feel like i'm losing my mind being stuck here all the time." I said jokingly. He smiled at that and then the microwave beeped. I gave him a smile before I got up to get my waffles out of the microwave and a fork. After I went back and sat the plate and fork down on the table I grabbed the syrup and a cold bottle of water and sat back down.

"It still doesn't seem fair for you though." He said. I looked up at him a little confused.

"Me being by myself?" I asked and he gave me a nod.

"It's like I said before, i'm okay. And I wish that my mom understood that too. She doesn't think it's fair either, which you are both right about. It wouldn't be fair if I wasn't okay with it and if I was being forced into compromise. However she is a terrific mom and does more than her best. And because of that I feel that things are going to be okay." I said honestly. Edward looked at me with surprise in his eyes and smiled at me mysteriously.I was confused by his reaction.

"What is it?" I asked.

"You're very mature for your age." He said and I looked at him strangely so he explained why he thought this. "The way that you look at the situation... Someone else would usually see only their side of things." He said. I nodded to him after I understood his explanation.

"Well, that is what my mom taught me ever since I was a kid. 'Always try to look at the situation through someone else's eyes, because you could never know what that person is really going through." I said then i grabbed the syrup off the table. I could feel his intense gaze as I poured the syrup on the pancakes and began eating, which was hard to do because I could feel my chest fluttering. I smiled at him when I looked up from eating and he gave me a small smirk in return.

After I had drunk some water and put my dishes in the sink I went upstairs to get my book bag and my jacket. Then I came back down stairs where Edward was waiting for me and we left. As we drove to school in Edward's car I became really comfortable around him, which is something I can't say about most people i meet or even know and I wanted see if we could maybe spend more time together.

"Edward?" I asked and he glanced over at me expectantly. "Are you free this weekend?" I asked tentatively and he looked over at me again, this time with more curiosity.

"This weekend i'm going camping with my family, so no. But why? Did you have any ideas for us?" He asked me with a big headed sexy smirk. I ducted my head a little embarrassed of not getting the smooth yes that I was mostly expecting.

"Oh, I just wanted to hang out." I said. He looked over at me with understanding.

"As soon as we get back from camping i'll come straight over. But until then i'll text you from time to time." He said. I nodded but then I remembered that we didn't have each others number's yet.

"But you don't have my number?" I said.

"You can give it to me at lunch." He said with that same smirk. Oh he thinks he's big stuff now that he knows that I really want to be closer to him.

"Mmhmm." Was my response as I thought of other things to talk about. "So what do you do during a camping trip?" I asked him. Edward kept his gaze planted onto the road.

"We hike, fish,and...we bond." He said.

"Oh I know that, but I want to know in full detail of what you specifically Edward does to pass the time. Your family is full of couples after all." I said and he chuckled.

"Why the sudden curiosity?" He asked. I looked innocently out of the window.

"Oh, it's just that i've never been camping and you seem like very interesting guy. And who knows maybe one day we can go together." I said and he looked at me with his eyes more darkened more then usual, he really does need to go 'camping'.

"Alone?" He asked incredulously and I found his reaction funny, he was so serious.

"Yeah..." I said while nodding my head slowly as if he was the weird one in the conversation. "Friends do take camping trips together Edward." I said as I saw Edward's grip on the steering wheel tightened.

"That they do." He said lowly. Edward got out of the car and came around and opened my door for me while sent my dad a short text message that said 'I'm here' and then I picked my bad up from the floor. As soon as I stepped out of the doorway I noticed a multitude of people looking our way and I became really nervous and frustrated. Why, oh, why did he park in the middle of the parking lot? And why are there so many people out here?! Don't they have Facebook and Google plus accounts?...Oh wait they don't. But still It's not that early.

"What's wrong?" Edward asked beside me as started to walk across the parking lot. I looked side ways at him.

"Well a lot of people are looking our way, it's like my first day all over again...Well not my first day but close." I said and Edward chuckled.

"Don't worry about we're almost in the school." And not long after he said that did the bell ring and we entered the Edward turned and looked down at me.

"So i'll see you at lunch Jessica?" He asked smoothly. I sigh. I love the way he says my name. Oh god, I can feel myself blushing.

"Yeah, of course. See you." I said and he gave me a smiled and walked away and i'm not saying that I didn't take time to enjoy the view either.

"Jessica!?" I heard someone shout behind me so I turned around and that it was the other Jessica.

"Oh, hey Jess." I tried to say in a non dreamy way. Come on, shake it off Jessica!

"Don't 'oh, hey Jess' me! You didn't call me last night to tell what happened between you and Edward yesterday! And now I see coming out of his car!" She exclaimed loudly which I was really put off by. I really didn't feel like telling her everything right now, i'm still coming down from my Edward high.

"I'll explain everything at lunch, but right now I have to get to class!" I said avoiding her and speed walking to the art room.

"You better!" She shouted and I waved my arm in the air to indicate that I heard her.
