Chapter 35: Be Good Today
I opened my eyes slowly and raised my head off of my pillow and sighed. I was feeling more relaxed and well rested then I usually did in the morning on school days. My eyes glanced over my quiet room and landed on the window, of course the sky was gray like most days but it seemed much more pleasant today. I laid back down and then stretched and yawned loudly. Just when I thought that I might have woken up early and had probably half an hour until I had to get up for school I slowly looked at my clock. It read 12:11 p.m.
I stared at it lazily for a moment before I got what that meant, f***. My eyes went wide and I sat up in bed trying to wake my brain up so I could figure out what to do. I sighed to myself in annoyance. I slide out of bed and into my slippers to go to my parents room and tell my dad what happened, he gets mad when I miss school, but when I opened the bed was neatly made with no one in it.
"Dad!" I called. No answer. And then I went down stairs and found no sign of anyone there either, not at the dinning table or the living room and the t.v. was turned off. I walked into the kitchen and looked out the window, my dad's car wasn't in the drive way. It's official I was completely alone and my dad didn't try to wake me before he left. So does this mean that I get to have lazy day? Hack yes it does.
I went upstairs and starting stripping down for a shower and of course there was a knock on my window. I felt my heart thud in my chest knowing exactly who it was, so I slide back on my navy blue night shirt and went from the hall way to back into my room. When I saw his hazel eyes and the usual smirk on his lips I smiled wholeheartedly at him and went over to the window to let him in. Of course he jumped in my room with ease before he came and stood closely right in front of me. He stood there gazing over at me and he didn't say a word so I looked up at him with an odd expression on my face.
"Good afternoon Edward." I said to break the silence.
"Good afternoon Jess." He said and then he leaned down and gave me a gentle kiss which made my heart beat quicken. I licked my bottom lip when he stood tall again before he went over to my desk silently and started to look over unfinished drawing and brushed his hands over a several of them.
"So, what brings you to my humble abode? Not that i'm complaining of course." I said with a smile. Edward looked out my window and sighed. I gave him a curious look.
"Well I was waiting for my lab partner to come to class today but... they didn't even show up." He said looking straight at me and I gave him a straight face.
"I'm sure that your lab partner had a legitimate reason why they didn't show up." I said and he started to slowly stride over to me almost as if he was hunting me.
"Really?" He said. His eyes seemed to gleam along with his teeth that were showing through his crooked smirk. I backed away from him slowly, if he was trying to make me nervous he was succeeding. "And what reason could that be?" He asked me. He made me back up until my back hit the wall beside my bed.
"I woke up late." I said and failed horribly at sounding reasonable. Edward placed his right hand on the wall right beside my head and leaned his head down until I felt his cool lips brush my ear. When he spoke I got goosebumps.
"So, because you overslept I had to sit through biology class partner less learning about the different types of mating systems?" He asked. I sunk lower underneath his gaze and he just leaned closer down to me.
"Yeah..." I said before I swallowed hard. Edward gave a little chuckle against my ear and my body shivered in reaction. When ever he feeds he's very playful and likes to push boundaries a little.
"You missed an entire lesson on mating, and as your partner it's my duty to make sure that you're caught up. So I should demonstrate the lesson to you." He said and brought his face in front of mine and gave me another close up of his eyes and smooth lips. I could feel his cool breath on my face as we stared at one another.
"A lesson on mating?" I asked.
"Yes." He said and then he took me by my waist and brought me closer. Oh my...
"Jessica!" I gasped and jumped in the air when heard my dad yell for me. My eyes went wide in shock as I turned and looked at my opened door, I didn't even hear anyone come in the house. I looked back at Edward who looked like he was about to explode with laughter. I squinted my eyes and threw him an angry look, he just looked like he wanted to laugh harder.
"I can't believe you find this funny! If I get caught i'm dead!" I whispered.
"You're overacting. I'm going to meet your father eventually why not now?" He asked.
"You're going to give me a heart attack!" I whispered. "Edward get out!" I said as I went to close the door. Edward stood near the window and looked down from it.
"Are you sure? It looks like the rest of your family is down there." He said. I went over to him and that my mom and sister were outside so I led him away from the window.
"Oh my gosh why did they have to come back at this exact moment...I know, i'll hide you in my closet!" I said and he raised his eyebrow at me.
"The closet?" H asked and I gave him a pleading look.
"Yes, please get in the closet now, please!" I said while he let me turn him around by his shoulders and push him in that direction.
"Yes mam." He said with a smile before he stepped gracefully into my closet.. I loved how his lips curved when he smiled, if I wasn't trying to hide him I would try and kiss him. Focus! Focus!
"Jessica!" My dad called again.
"I'll be down soon!" I said giving Edward one final pleading look before I shut the door to my closet.
"Jesse!" I heard my mom call from downstairs and lips broke out into a smile. I was so happy that my mom in my sister was back home I ran down stairs as soon as I could and hugged my mom and my sister all at once.
"I missed you all so much!" I said.
"Awe, we missed you too Jesse!" My mom said and then she gave me a kiss on the side of my cheek.
"You probably enjoyed having the house to yourself." Jasmine said. I laughed and then took a step back to see them both clearly.
"What? No...No...A little..." I said jokingly and both my sister and my mom rolled there eyes.
"Jessica, come on." My mom said.
"I'm just joking, I really did miss you. The house is so quiet when all of you are gone." I said. And when Edward isn't here. My mom put her arm around me and kissed me again on my forehead.
"Well it's feels good to home again." My mom said.
"Good it feels great! I couldn't take anymore hospital food and sleeping in that hospital bed." Jasmine said stretching. My mom went over to the couch and sat down.
"Oh yes I cannot wait until I take a shower in my own shower and get in my own bed finally." She said and Jazz joined her. Dad and I also went and stood in the living room with them.
"Can we go out to eat? I'm hungry" Jasmine asked dad.
"Yeah but it would just have to be y'all, I have to get back to work in about... thirty-five minutes."He said.
"I could make a late breakfast?" I suggested.
"Okay!" Jazz said hyped.
"You don't have to do that Jess." My mom said.
"No, no, I want to do it. You two look really tired and this way dad can eat with us." I said.
"Well okay if you're sure." She said.
"Yup I got this, i'm just gonna go up to my room for a minute." I asked.
"Okay." My mom said.
"Please hurry up Jessica!" Jazz said.
"Don't forget I have to get back to work soon." My dad said.
"Okay! Okay! I'm hurrying!" I said running up the stairs. When I got to my room I closed and locked the door behind me.
"Edward..." I whispered. He opened the closet door and came out.
"Hi." He said.
"Hi, Edward...can-" I started to say but he interrupted me.
"I think that it would be a good idea to see you tomorrow so you can I spend some time with your family." He said. Of course he would know exactly what I was going to ask.
"I don't want you to leave Edward..." I admitted.
"So I can meet your family then." He teased. I smiled and bit my lip.
"Later...but for now can see you tomorrow." I said. He slid his hand down a lock of my hair and he gazed down on me with his topaz eyes.
"I'll hold you to that." He said and then I watched him as he walked to my window. "No kiss?" He asked and I laughed before I went over and gave him a short kiss on the lips and my heart jumped in my chest. After that he winked at me before he exited.
After he left I went down and made breakfast and spent as much time with my family as I could before my mother and my sister went to bed. Which didn't take long at all they went to bed around seven o'clock but I made sure that I made them dinner before their heads hit the pillow.
That night when I went up to my room I was very content to have all of my family at home again. Maybe it was because I stuffed from two very heavy meals and after having so much fun with my family but I was so tired that I fell on my bed with a smile and that's the last thing I did before I fell asleep.
~ Two in the Morning ~
"Jessica! Jessica wake up!" I heard a familiar voice whisper at me. I opened my eyes surprised and my heart was beating rapidly in my ears. When I gained a sense of my surroundings my eyes found and concentrated on the silhouette of a man who held me up by my upper arms.
"Who are are you?!" I breathed and then they reached over and turned on my lamp with a click. I was surprised again when I saw that it was John Summer, his hair glowed a warmer brown then usual from the yellow light of my lamp. I sighed in relief before I sat up and folded my legs underneath me.
"John, what is it? What are doing here?" I whispered. His face had a unsettled expression and I immediately became concerned. "John?" I prompted a little louder.
"I'm so sorry I should have came to you sooner but I had to find out some things out first." He said as he ran his hand through his hair.
"What are you talking about?" I asked.
"I know that I said that I wouldn't help you anymore but I couldn't help but feel like I should keep safe you longer then I intended. It's a good thing that I did because I don't know if you have noticed but there has been shadows lurking around you lately." He said.
"Shadows?" I questioned.
"Essences, that don't belong here. I'm not sure what is going on but I know it's not harmless and the one behind these things are conciliating themselves." He said.
"Are they from 'here'? I mean if you made this world then wouldn't you know what they are?" I asked.
"That is precisely what I thought so I did some digging and a couple of closest friends and I have discovered these shadows and holes here and there, rafts through this universe. Some coming from the dream world even. All of them are staying close to you, this world is as big as the one you came from yet they don't manage to go farther then where you would go, it's not a coincidence." He said and there were moments of silence before I spoke again.
"The dreamed world..." I said. I started to think about my nightmares that plagued me.
"What is it?" John asked.
"I have been having nightmares for sometime now, could that be related to this?" I asked. John's eyebrows pulled together.
"Considering that you have a raft in your room from the dream world that keeps reopening. Yes, definitely. I really didn't want you to worry you about this but the way that things are going...has there been anything strange happening besides that?" He asked. I lifted my eyebrows. "Besides the usual things of this world of course." I sighed.
"There has been something, or rather someone" I said. John came closer to listen. "I've been seeing this women with black hair everywhere, sometimes I dream about her other times there are just glances of her everywhere. She always seems to be really angry with me." I said, all of the disquiet emotions started to surface because these were things that I was trying to ignore.
"Is that all the contact that you have had with her?" He asked. I shook my head.
"I think that I meet her once in person." I said.
"What happened?"
"I was out getting a gift for my sister when she was in the hospital and at the store I got it from the lady that was working there looked a lot like the women. And she said some pretty strange things." I said.
"Like what?"
"I think she was suggesting that I committed adultery with older men or something. She spoke very hostile and seemed kind of crazy so I just ignored it. But I have been to the same store at least several more times and I have not seen her again." I said and John raised his eyebrows.
"That is very strange." He said looking down at he floor. I guess I had a an uneasy look on my face because when he looked back up at me he gave me a gentle smile and raised my chin.
"It's going to be alright don't worry." He said and I gently shook my head.
"I don't know, if someone like you is worried how can I not be?" I asked.
"Because i'm going to handle this, I promise you that I will get to the bottom of this and keep you safe. So that you can have a long and happy life, the life you deserve." He said.
"Sometimes I think you put me to high." I said. He just shook his a head and grabbed my hand, he's were so big and warm.
"I have to go now, don't worry yourself please." John said before he stood tall, his broad shoulders more evident in his black clothing. I nodded to him and he gave my hand a squeeze before he turned to leave.
"John." I said as I unfolded my legs and he turned back around and met my gaze. "Be careful." I said.
"I'll do my best." He said before he quickly vanished into a dim light that outlined his body and it too had vanished after he was through.
"Whoa." I said and then I looked around my now silent room. How in the world am I going to sleep after that?
Hello everybody sorry I haven't posting anything for long periods of time, i'm really trying to get this done with a satisfying plot and ending. I don't want this story to go unfinished so please, please review. I really enjoy reading them especially now that i'm writing after taking a long break, I really want to know what you all are thinking. And I hope that you enjoyed this chapter of The Deeds Of Life!
