A/N: Hey guys, DrPhill's back with another new chapter for you guys to enjoy in this wonderful world of ours.
Tyler: Okay, who's next on the list... *picks up paper* Elliot Sparks? Born in Kalos, slight accent, moved to Sinnoh when he was 9.
Wendy: Not bad. Points for not wearing all black like the last guy was. And his team is pretty well balanced. Ooh look here Tyler, Barbaracle, he's got a Rock type.
Tyler: Well now I hate him. Next!
Wendy: You say that about every Rock type trainer. I'm putting him in the Maybe pile; I still think he's got potential.
DrPhill26: As you can see, we're busy handling OC submissions for this story since we announced last chapter that we would begin accepting them. And I'm pleased to say that we've actually received a few good characters from you guys so far. Part of me thought we wouldn't get any but you proved me wrong.
Tyler: Of course if we're still working on submissions now, it might be a while before these characters make it into the stor... God dammit *crumples up paper* Another wears-nothing-but-black-guy. Seriously? That's like the fifth one!
Wendy: Pulse? You finding any good ones over there?
Pulse: I believe I have found a couple good submissions.
Wendy: Okay, put them in the pile when you're done with your stack.
DrPhill26: But since the story needs to continue along so we can begin adding these OCs of yours, which we will still be accepting so... if you're interested just pm me and I'll send you a form, here's a new chapter for you guys to enjoy in the meanwhile. Team summaries are once again at the end of the chapter so yeah, have fun :D
Exhaustion was about the only word Tyler could possibly use to describe the mood that he was in. Fatigue was close, but the burning ache in his arms and legs, and the way he slouched his body against Wendy's was more akin to lifelessness than simply being fatigue. The phrase "dead on your feet" came to mind and Tyler thought that it would be highly appropriate, if it weren't for him being on the back of his moped with Wendy driving the two of them through Solaceon Town. And considering that Tyler was too tired to think of a better word to explain how he felt, exhaustion would have to do. As they drove past a small plaza in town, Tyler lifted his head up enough to briefly make out the time on a clock, reading a few minutes before noon.
"Wuh'dayh mea iz noo?" Even Tyler's speech was being affected by just how exhausted he was, coming out in a heavy slur that even he had a hard time understanding.
"You say something back there Ty?" Wendy asked cheerily as she continued driving through town. Tyler looked at her like she was some kind of freak, though all he could see of her was the lavender colored helmet she wore on her head. How the hell was she still awake, let alone awake enough to drive after last night? The two of them had gone straight to Amity Square right after their altercation with Shaquille in the Pokémon Center so Wendy could start training. That was at about 8pm and they stayed there for hours, with Tyler trying his best to teach as much to Wendy as possible about double battling. But he didn't expect them to be training until 2:30 in the morning. And he certainly didn't expect them to also get up at eight that morning to go to Solaceon Town and head to the daycare straight to the daycare.
"Hw are oo awae?" Tyler yawned as he rubbed his eyes.
"We'll be there really soon Tyler. Just stay with me a bit longer okay?" Wendy called back. Tyler really hoped that it would be sooner rather than later, because any later and he might pass out and fall off the back of the moped. He noticed through the blur of the cobwebs and how fast they were traveling that they'd neared the north edge of town and saw a large open field beyond the haze. Even the small ups and downs of the rolling valley over there looked inviting to him in his sleep deprived state. He'd done it a few times before back home, just sleeping out on the sand in the backyard under one of the few trees Phenac had to offer. It was actually quite relaxing. The sand molded with your body and with the added heat from the sun, it felt like you were being held in the loving arms of your mother. You felt warm, safe and cared for in the sand's embrace, and Tyler was thinking that the same could be said of some of the nearby hills.
All of a sudden Tyler felt his body slip lightly to the right, his head moving to Wendy's shoulder instead of being centered in her back. He looked up and around, being able to make out that they'd turned up a dirt road towards a house. It looked like it was made mostly of stone to Tyler, possibly an old cottage of some kind? Whatever it was, it looked to be a bit on the larger side than a typical home with a secondary building seeming to be attached to the home part of it. But as long as it had a bed that he could pass out on once he got off this moped, he really didn't care.
"Okay Tyler, we're here." Wendy said as they slowed to a stop before the cottage. Gingerly she got off the moped and put the kick stand down, draping one of Tyler's arms around her shoulder and helping him stand up.
"ey, I cn stand by muslff." Tyler mumbled, trying to push himself away from Wendy's grip.
"You sure about that?" Wendy asked partly concerned, but with a joking tone of voice. "I've seen Spinda that can stand up better than you right now." Tyler shrugged her off, stumbling a few steps away from the moped and half-squatting to prove to her that he could sort of stand on his own. "Well, just don't hurt yourself while I go find my parents."
"Can do." Tyler shot her a thumbs-up while watching Wendy walk towards the door.
"E Komo Mai!" A low sounding voice called out as Wendy took a step up the door. Both she and Tyler turned to face the man, seeing a man walk towards them wearing an oceanic blue shirt and khaki shorts. "Allow me to welcome you to the Solaceon Daycare. My name is-"
"Oh, Keanu. Even better." Wendy clapped her hands as she saw her friend. "Hey, do you know where mom and dad are? I need to see them about something."
"Wendy?" Keanu looked taken aback, but became quickly reassured when Wendy took her helmet off and gave him a hug. "My apologies, I did not recognize you with that helmet on your head."
"Oh come on, you don't recognize this body after seeing it for so long? I'm hurt Kee." Wendy pouted but quickly broke into laughing before Keanu could respond. "Don't worry about it. You know I'm just kidding."
"Still, it is a surprise to see you today. I was not told to expect you to come."
"And since when do I have to announce that I'm coming home Kee, huh?" Wendy teasingly poked Keanu's chest. "I mean I guess I could have, but you know it's more my style to just drop in unannounced like this."
"Well, you are your parent's little leilani." Keanu grinned, unclipping a walkie-talkie from a belt loop on his shorts and pressing a button on it. "Keanu to Luna?" There was silence for a moment before the crackling of a voice came through the speaker.
"Go ahead Kee." The voice replied.
"Your little Wendy is here to see you." Keanu spoke into the walkie.
"Hi daddy!" Wendy added before Keanu let go of the speaker. There was another momentary pause before the walkie clicked.
"Wendy? What are you doing here?" Wendy took the walkie out of Keanu's hand and held it up to speak.
"I came here on business today actually. But of course if you'd like, I'd be happy to help out today while we take care of what I need." Another pause…
"What kind of business?" The voice asked suspiciously.
"It'll be faster to just explain it in person. I'm up at the house with Keanu."
"Alright, I'm at the barn right now but I have the four-wheeler with me. I'll be there in a sec."
"Thanks daddy! I can't wait to see you." Wendy smiled, handing the walkie back to Keanu.
"Yeah, see you soon." The voice clicked as Keanu attached the walkie back to his belt.
"So, you aren't just here to play with the Pokémon?" Keanu looked curiously at Wendy.
"If I have time I will, but yeah, we're here on business." Wendy motioned towards Tyler, who had found his way to a seated position on the ground and looked to have fallen asleep while sitting there.
"Tired little kolohe isn't he?" Keanu quipped, earning a brief giggle from Wendy.
"It's not his fault; I kept him awake all night last night."
"Did you now?" Keanu's grin turned impish as he looked back at Wendy's lower body. "I can't say I blame him. With an 'ōkole like yours, it would be hard not to."
"For your information Keanu, we did not have sex last night." Wendy playfully scolded him, turning her butt away from his leering eyes. "We were up late because he was teaching me about double battling. Both of us are signed up for the tournament over in Hearthome this coming weekend."
"Really? Now that is quite surprising." Keanu sounded shocked. "What made you decide to participate? You are not really the battle type."
"Let's just say that a certain somebody needs to be put in their place and I want to be the one to do it." Wendy frowned thinking about the way Shaquille behaved yesterday. "Stupid guy thinks he's so good. I can't wait to rip the smug grin right off his face."
"Should we do something about him?" Keanu pointed towards Tyler, who promptly jerked his head up only for him to slouch over just as quickly.
"Please do. I'd rather have Tyler awake when he meets daddy." Keanu nodded, grabbing one of the Poké balls attached to his belt and enlarged it.
"Give me a hand Lana."
"Dewott." Keanu's Pokémon calmly bowed at her trainer as the silver spark shower disappeared around her.
"Can you wake up our friend with a little Water Gun? Nothing too big though, just enough to give him a jolt."
"Dew." Lana nodded, turning around and walking to a spot in front of Tyler. She waited for his head to jerk back up a second time before spraying a small but intense looking stream of water into his face. Tyler quickly fell over, gagging on the water that had gotten into his mouth and nose but Lana wouldn't let up. It wasn't the first time Keanu had told her to wake someone up; usually it ended up being Wendy who needed the extra help in the morning, who instead found the display of Tyler flailing his arms around as he tried to avoid the water rather comical.
"Do I always look like that when you do that to me?"
"Exactly like that." Keanu chuckled to himself. "I just hope he doesn't take after you and slap me for it."
"Well you do kind of deserve it. But he needed the wakeup call."
"Ack. *Cough* Make it stop!" Tyler yelled as Lana finally stopped her attack, walking back towards her trainer and standing beside his legs. Tyler held himself up on his hands and knees, shaking some of the wetness out of his hair and running his hands through it while catching his breath. It might not have been the best way to finally wake up today, but kneeling there in a puddle of cold water had managed to shock himself back to alertness for the first time since yesterday. He stood up, looking around and seeing Wendy and Keanu snickering with each other while he tried to gather his thoughts. "The hell are we? This isn't Hearthome is it?"
"We're at the daycare in Solaceon Town, remember?" Wendy said pointing towards the cottage home behind her. Tyler rubbed his eyes again as he looked at the building, noting its dark stone walls and evenly spaced windows at ground level and on a floor above. He also saw another building made of the same stone standing along to the side that had a chimney sitting atop the roof. It wasn't quite what Tyler had envisioned in his head as far as what a daycare would look like, but the incredibly large fields around the building at least added up to his expectations.
"This place is the daycare?" Tyler looked around a second time at the fields. "Then where's all the Pokémon?" You'd think that with all the fields and open space that this building is sitting on there'd at least be one Pokémon to see. Maybe a Flying type soaring above with the clouds, maybe a group of young Pokémon racing through the fields after each other, maybe a larger Pokémon trying to catch a nap. Tyler expected to see something besides the lone Water type that he suddenly realized was probably responsible for his shirt and face being soaked.
"It's feeding time. All the Pokémon are back at the barns with the staff taking care of their meals." Wendy explained and Tyler relented. That would explain why it looked somewhat barren today. "By the way, do you want me to get you a towel?"
"Nah, I think I'm good." Tyler said despite having to wring some of the water out of his shirt.
"It is nice to see you again Tyler." Keanu spoke, holding his hand towards Tyler who shook it cheerily.
"Yeah… Keanu was it?" He nodded. "Good, you know normally I'm really crap with names."
"Eh, everybody calls me Kee around here." Keanu shrugged. "You can call me that too if you want, I don't mind." Tyler was going to say something, but he heard the rumbling of a motor approaching them in the distance. He looked off to his right and saw a man riding on an ATV at a good speed heading towards them. Tyler could see what looked like a beige colored shirt on the man's chest over blue jeans that were tucked into a pair of leather work boots. He raised an arm off one of the handlebars and waved at the group, Wendy waving back at him as he began slowing to a halt in front of the other building.
"Well I'll be damned, it actually is you." The man spoke, power in his voice but Tyler could feel a familiar playful kind of goofy warmth along with it just like his own dad back home.
"Hi daddy!" Wendy caught her father in a hug the moment he got off his ATV and gave him a kiss on the cheek.
"Hi sweet pea. Daddy missed you."
"Dad, it's only been like ten days since I was here last."
"Still doesn't mean I didn't miss you." Wendy's father hugged her a second time before letting go. "Now you said something about being here on business today?"
"That's right." Wendy casually walked over to Tyler and placed her arm around him, pulling him towards her dad. "Though it might be more accurate to say the two of us are here on business."
"Well now, who's this strong looking guy you got here?" He asked looking over Tyler's body. Tyler wanted to avoid eye contact with him, as being looked over by someone he just met was a little unnerving. But this was his first chance to introduce himself to Wendy's father and he knew how badly first impressions were, especially your girlfriend's father.
"Tyler Lawson sir." He held out his hand and swallowed apprehensively. "I'm Wendy's boyfriend. It's a pleasure to meet you." Tyler stood tall, feeling another wave of the visual assessment from Wendy's dad begin. He folded his arms behind his back as he looked at Tyler, squinting his brown eyes and leaning in closer to Tyler a couple times. But then a smile quickly shot out over his face and Tyler felt his hand being squeezed to death.
"Now that's a man for you! Politely introduces himself, walks in with an air of confidence and says 'hello sir, I'm your daughter's boyfriend. It's nice to meet you. He's already doing a lot better than that Jessie guy last time you brought home a guy."
"Daddy…" Wendy rolled her eyes as Tyler willed himself to grab the man's hand back and return the favor of his strong handshake.
"And he's got a little meat on his bones too. Shoot son, I might just ask you to do some work around here today if you're up for it. We can always use an extra pair of hands."
"If you think I'm up to the task, I'd be glad to help." Tyler smiled. "I've always wanted to help out at a daycare."
"Perfect!" Wendy's dad beamed as he took a step back. "Arthur Riding's my name. I'm Wendy's father and the proud owner of the best damn daycare here in all of Sinnoh for the past twenty years with my wife Julia."
"And there he goes boasting already." Wendy shook her head. "You can tell Tyler about how impressive this place is and give him the grand tour later; I'd like to get straight to business."
"She can be so impatient sometimes…" Arthur whispered to Tyler and rolled his eyes, making Tyler snicker. "Alright sweet pea, what do you want to talk about?"
"Tyler and I are here because we want to breed our Pokémon." Wendy answered. "I was hoping that you and mom could help us out with that."
"Pokémon breeding huh?" Arthur scratched his chin, pulling a stray hair out of the short, silvery goatee on his face. "Well you certainly came to the right place. I am an-"
"We know you're an accomplished Pokémon breeder already daddy, that's why we came here. Can we just get to the point already? The sooner we get this started the better."
"She doesn't let me have any fun…" Mr. Riding whispered to Tyler a second time and rolled his eyes. "I hope that she isn't that way with you."
"No sir, we know how to keep each other happy." Tyler replied.
"Good, alright you two follow me inside to the examination room and we'll get down to business."
"Actually daddy, I was hoping that you could just take Tyler." Wendy grabbed one of her Poké balls and tossed it to her dad. "I already know about the things you need to go over with him so I'll just give you Pulse to checkup on and I'll get to work helping Kee with whatever he was doing today."
"Alright, if that's what you want. Feel free to take the four-wheeler back with her alright Kee."
"Sure thing Luna." Mr. Riding turned to Tyler.
"Follow me inside son. We'll get started on our examinations." Wendy's dad turned on his heel and walked towards the front door with Tyler following him. He heard the engine of the ATV turning to life as he closed the front door behind him and stepped into what looked like an ordinary home's walkway. A staircase was right in front of him that led to the second floor with a pair of hallways on either side of it at ground level. Mr. Riding had taken the one on the right and Tyler followed him, seeing what must have been a room with a fireplace on his right and a modest kitchen off beside it. They turned right again, heading towards the area that Tyler saw was the larger building next to this home with a door and a sign on top of it reading that it was for daycare employees only.
As Mr. Riding slid the key into the lock and opened the door, Tyler stepped into what was more akin to a daycare as he had thought of it. He could see a receptionist sitting behind a computer at a desk directly in front of him, who turned towards them and greeted Mr. Riding with a smile. Off to Tyler's right was the main entrance to this building, a more professional looking reception room with open seats all across the room between shelves filled with magazines for waiting clients. They however went left, deeper into the back of the building down a hallway and into an open room on the right side.
"Okay, you can take a seat in the chair by the door and if you could release your Pokémon, we can get started." Mr. Riding hopped around the examination table against the wall and towards a counter where he started washing his hands. Tyler frowned looking at the room as it reminded him of the hospital room back in Snowpoint, but at least this room had paw prints of various Pokémon on the wall. He couldn't recognize any of them at a glance, but at least it felt appropriate for a daycare's décor. He grabbed Yuki's ball and released it as he sat down in the somewhat stiff feeling chair.
"Glaceon!" Yuki mewed, sitting patiently by her trainers' side. Mr. Riding looked over as he heard Yuki call her name and then started laughing to himself.
"No wonder you two are going out." He shook his head as he turned off the faucet and put on a pair of latex gloves. "Well if you can get your Glaceon onto the table, we'll get started in a bit."
"Yeah sure." Tyler reached down, picking up Yuki in a loose hug and placing her on the table. "We're here for a checkup just like at the Pokémon Center, so behave yourself like you would there okay?"
"Glacie." Yuki nodded, swishing her tail back and forth lazily as she sat down.
"So, how'd you meet my daughter?" Mr. Riding asked while grabbing something out of a drawer.
"We met when Wendy was in Orre for her report on the region." Tyler answered. "We were just at a club and she walked up to me, we just started talking and hit it off."
"I'm sure your Glaceon helped a bit in that regard."
"Actually, she didn't know about her until we met again on the ship she took back to Snowpoint." Tyler corrected him as he sat back down. "I'm from Orre obviously, and wanted to go see the world. When we were talking that night, Wendy suggested I go see Sinnoh and I was like, okay sure. Then we ran into each other again and that's when we started hanging out more. Now a month later, here we are."
"Well that explains why we haven't seen her that much since she got back. Normally Wendy spends all her free time here helping out and playing with the Pokémon." Mr. Riding placed a stethoscope around his neck and turned to face Yuki. "Does she have a name?"
"It's Yuki." Wendy's dad smiled warmly as he held out a gloved hand to Yuki.
"Well hello there Yuki, my name's Dr. Riding and I'm going to be giving you an examination today." He bent over slightly next to Yuki, holding his hand by her front paws. "We just want to make sure you're as fit as a fiddle before your big day okay? Nothing too strenuous, I promise."
"Glaceon." Yuki pressed her paw into Mr. Riding's hand and shook it briefly.
"That's a good girl." He walked to Yuki's side, placing his hands on her body and looking closely at her fur and her skin beneath it. "So my girl's finally getting herself an Eevee, is that what's happening here?"
"Yeah," Tyler nodded. "We came up with the idea a few days ago actually. I need a Fighting type to balance my team, Wendy has Pulse, I think Lucario are pretty sweet and obviously you know about Wendy's love for Eevee."
"I wouldn't say love so much as obsession." Mr. Riding chuckled to himself, moving back to Yuki's front and grabbing a small flashlight. "Has she told you about her collection yet?"
"Collection?" Tyler asked as Mr. Riding shined the light into Yuki's eyes, making her flinch.
"Oh well as you could probably guess, Wendy has all sorts of things that pertain to Eevees and all their evolutions… could you open your mouth please? Aaah." He asked to Yuki, shining the light inside there as well. "Plushies, bed sheets, little figurines, even clothing and costumes. You name it, if it's got an Eevee on it, she has it."
"Damn." Tyler shook his head with an amused grin. He knew Wendy had a noticeable love of the Eevee-lutions, but this was sounding a bit more beyond what even he had expected.
"Of course I can't blame her though. I think some of them are pretty cute too." His examination continued, shining the flashlight into Yuki's ear.
"What d'ya think about Glaceon?"
"Not my personal favorite but yours is adorable, and so far she's very healthy too." Wendy's dad responded, placing the stethoscope behind Yuki's front leg on her side. "M'kay Yuki, can you please take in a deep breath for me?" Yuki did as the doctor instructed her. "Hold it for a moment… … aaaaand… release."
"Glae…" Yuki exhaled, her body shaking slightly as she caught her breathing.
"That's a good girl. You're doing great." He slid the stethoscope down between her front two legs and brought his other arm up to his face with Tyler seeing a simple digital watch. "Let's check for your pulse."
"I wonder if she thinks the stethoscope is cold." Tyler thought to himself remembering how much he hated having the device pressed against his chest. Was it really so difficult for doctors to warm their stethoscopes slightly before using them? "Then again she's an Ice type, so maybe she didn't notice."
"Let's see, 36 beats times four is…" Wendy's dad pulled the stethoscope away from Yuki's chest. "144 beats per minute. Good, right about where it should be for a Pokémon of her size. Good, very good… So how long have you had Yuki?" He asked, making a note on a sheet of paper at his desk.
"Uh, about ten and a half months I think. Tyler scratched his chin trying to remember. "Actually now that I think about it, I think Yuki just had a birthday the other day and I didn't notice. When I got her, the breeder said she was only about two months old."
"Don't tell Wendy then." Wendy's dad laughed. "She'll want to throw a party for her if she hears that."
"Well I wouldn't feel right if I didn't do a little something. How about I make you a special Poké puff to celebrate, just the two of us."
"Glaceon Glacie!" Yuki nodded excitedly as Wendy's dad opened a drawer and pulled out a clipboard, attaching a sheet of paper to it.
"Okay well, so far everything seems to be in working order with Yuki." Wendy's dad opened the door to the room and motioned towards the doorway. "I'll do a more thorough checkup later, but all that I need to do now is see how much Yuki weighs and then I can throw some paperwork at you to fill out."
"Goodie…" Tyler rolled his eyes and followed the doctor out of the room, who had turned around and was walking down the hallway backwards while looking at Yuki as she caught up to Tyler's stride.
"It's not that much. Just want to add your contact information into our computer networks to make it easier to get a hold of you for business purposes." Still walking backwards, he grabbed a handle on a door that he was about to hit and opened it, stepping inside to Tyler's surprise. "You know, standard e-c-i forms, updates about your Pokémon, potential egg status. Sometimes we even contact trainers with offers to bring in their Pokémon for breeding and we pay them handsomely when we do."
"Really? So am I getting anything for bringing Yuki in?" Tyler asked curiously as he entered the relatively empty room. All that was in this room compared to the last one was a large metal tile in the center and a small countertop in the corner.
"Normally yes. Eevee's tend to fetch a very high price in the breeder's circuit, especially purebreds. Do you know if Yuki is a purebred?" Mr. Riding walked past Tyler towards the countertop and placed his clipboard on top of it.
"Not off the top of my head, no." Tyler shook his head.
"Well let's just say that if Yuki is a purebred, we'd be willing to pay you about ten grand to breed her. Thirty if you let us breed her with a male Eevee-lution ."
"Holy crap!"
"Okay Yuki, can you step on that metal plate there until I say so?" Yuki walked over to the plate on the floor and patiently waited, watching the doctor as he pulled on one of the drawers at the countertop and pulled out a keyboard and typed briefly at it. "But considering that you agreed to a mutual trade with Wendy for a yet to be bred Riolu, that means we'd need you to pay for the adoption fees and special breeding services. So that means I can give you about… I dunno, about 3500 once we cover the appropriate fees."
"Balls..." Tyler frowned. He could have really used the large payday that he could have gotten with Yuki, even if it did make him feel a little guilty about using her for the money. But since he was broke anyway, 3500 bucks in his pocket was better than nothing.
"Could you move to the side a bit Tyler? You're blocking the display." Wendy's dad looked in Tyler's direction, seemingly past him.
"Huh?" Tyler turned around and saw what looked like a small digital clock on the wall behind him and stepped out of the way. "Sorry."
"Don't worry about it, now let's see..." After a moment the red numbers on the clock stopped changing and read a solid 55.6 that blinked a couple times.
"Hmph, a little under weight for a Glaceon." Wendy's dad commented.
"Is that a bad thing?" Tyler asked looking down at Yuki who seemed indifferent.
"Not really, Yuki's still within the healthy range for her species. But we'd like her to be a bit overweight before we try to impregnate her. It'll make it easier on her body and would be better for the egg. If we can get her up to 60, maybe 65 pounds that would be good." Tyler nodded, realizing that he'd been feeding Yuki only about the same since she evolved despite her being clearly bigger. That and she'd been battling more too, so she'd be burning off calories a lot more than normal as well.
"I guess I need to start feeding you more." Tyler teased Yuki's ears with the back of his hand, getting her to mew at him.
"Actually I'd like it if we could keep Yuki here at the daycare if it's okay with you." Wendy's dad offered. "That way we can ensure that she gets all the treatment she needs to be ready for what she'll be doing with Pulse. Of course we'd offer this for free as a favor to Wendy."
"Oh, that'd be great! We'd really appreciate that... "Tyler began but trailed off after a bit."Then again, I was hoping I could use her in the tag tournament in Hearthome."
"Yeah no, that's not a good idea." Wendy's dad said heading back towards the door and into the hallway. "Any sort of stress to her from battling could harm her ability to have a healthy child."
"Point taken." Tyler frowned and so did Yuki. He was looking forward to seeing just how strong Yuki could be in a tournament like this one, and Yuki's own frown said she wanted to fight as well. But they both knew they had to listen to the doctor. "Alright, let's get Yuki set up for an extended stay here then."
"Wonderful. If you could go see our receptionist sitting in the main lobby, she can help you through the paperwork and whatnot. I need to go check on the rest of the staff and see if meal time is going smoothly." Mr. Riding held out his hand to Tyler a second time and Tyler clasped it firmly. "Will you and Wendy be staying the day? Maybe overnight? We've got a guest room on the second floor of the house if you're interested."
"What, I can't sleep in Wendy's room?" Tyler said jokingly, but felt a shiver run down his stare as he saw her dad's blackened stare in return.
"Not under my roof you're not." This was definitely the classic angry-dad stare, something Tyler had known all too well growing up with his old man back home in Phenac City. There was no surer way to know that you'd crossed the line than when you got this icy, disappointed stare back in your face.
"Okay, it was a joke. I'll keep the door locked if we do stay the night."
"Nah! I'm just fuckin' with you." Wendy's dad slapped Tyler on the back with enough force to make Tyler's vision blur for a moment. "You seem like a nice guy Tyler. Remind me of me when I was your age. Hey, come find me when you've got that paperwork done. I'll give you a tour."
"That sounds like fun." Tyler nodded, letting go of his hand and turning towards the receptionist. "I'll see you later Mr. Riding."
"That's Arty to you son." Mr. Riding's laugh could be heard down the hallway back towards the first examination room as Tyler approached the receptionist at the lobby. She smiled politely at him, having already grabbed the appropriate forms and put them on the desk for Tyler to go over. She didn't say much, quietly pointing out where Tyler needed to sign his name, his trainer's license information and a bunch of other small things. But she did make the process go fairly quickly and within a matter of a few minutes, all the forms were back by her and Tyler had been registered into the daycare's contact network.
With her polite goodbye, Tyler made his way back out the front door of the daycare and stepped into the house a second time in pursuit of the previously mentioned guest room. As much as he wanted to be awake to go on a tour of the facility or help out with the Pokémon here, he could still feel the tendrils of exhaustion wrapping themselves around him and knew he'd pass out soon anyway. Atop the stairs and down the last door on the left, Tyler found a mostly barren room compared to the ones he'd been looking in with a bed, nightstand and not much else. Too tired to search any longer and with strength waning from his body, Tyler's legs dragged towards the bed and he fell onto the bed, bouncing once on the rebound of the springs, before passing out on second impact with the softness of the mattress.
A/N: And there you go, that makes 29 chapters in the books for this story.
Tyler: Great, now that you're done you can take my place and review some characters yourself. I'm taking a nap.
Wendy: Yeah, I'm tired myself actually. I think I'm gonna join you.
Pulse: Master, I have finished reviewing the forms you gave me.
Wendy: Great, you can join us.
DrPhill26: Hey wait, I can't go through all these papers by myself. Look at this guy here! He practically wrote a book describing his character. I can't go through all of it alone.
Tyler: Team nap?
