Wheatley had spent the afternoon trying to think of a casual way to bring up something he wanted to ask Chell. He hadn't had much luck, but the black and white movie they were half way watching as they cuddled on the couch was sort of romantic, and he figured that was close enough to what he wanted to ask about.

"So…" Wheatley said, trying to sound nonchalant, "Valentine's Day is coming up."

Chell turned to look at him.

"And?"

"And… Do you want anything?" He asked.

For some reason Chell looked amused. Wheatley tried not to panic.

"I just thought I'd ask, because I'm not great at figuring out human holidays to begin with, but it's extra hard with you because you don't exactly follow all of them." Wheatley tried not to turn pink. "Isn't Valentines Day a holiday where you're supposed to give gifts to the person you love?"

"Mhm," Chell smirked.

His voice rose an octave.

"You still love me, right?"

"Of course," She laughed. She snuggled closer to him, tugging one of his arms around her waist. Wheatley relaxed.

"But you don't want anything?"

"Do you want anything?" Chell asked.

"No," He said, cuddling closer, "I already have everything I want."

Chell hummed.

"So do I."

If Chell wouldn't tell him what she wanted for Valentine's Day, Wheatley decided to go to the next best source(s).

"What does Chell like?" He asked the children of Horizon.

"You." Jake snickered. The other kids laughed, and Wheatley turned pink.

"Other than that."

"Being outside?"

"That's- okay. Technically true, but let me rephrase the question. What does Chell like that I can give her as a present?"

"Hmmm," Auburn frowned. "That's hard. She's not very materialistic."

"She likes books," Wheatley thought aloud, "But I feel like she would probably expect that. I want to surprise her."

Jake snapped his fingers.

"Oh! I know!"

He whispered something in Wheatley's ear, causing him to frown. That gift sounded familiar from the distant Before, but it wasn't something he'd encountered since coming to Horizon.

"Really?" He asked.

"Mhm." Jake nodded. "Chell loves it, but she hasn't had it in years. It's kind of hard to come by nowadays. You won't find any here in Horizon."

Wheatley tried to find a nice way to say 'Then how on Earth was that supposed to be a helpful suggestion' and was failing. Thankfully, Jake continued.

"But Michael's going on a trip out of town, soon. You could go with him and get it then."

"I honestly can't decide if that's worth it," Wheatley deadpanned.

Auburn grinned at him.

"You want to make Chell happy, right?"

It would probably be worth it.

One road trip and several weeks later, it was Valentine's Day. And, as with most holidays, Wheatley was more excited than was probably warranted.

"Good morning," He hummed, nuzzling the crook of Chell's neck as they spooned. She shifted next to him as she woke, her voice soft with drowsiness.

"Good morning."

"Happy Valentine's Day," Wheatley sang. Chell made a noise somewhere between a laugh and a scoff, but when he sat up she was smiling.

"I know you said you didn't want anything," He said, reaching into his nightstand, "But I couldn't help myself."

"Wheatley-"

"I heard that you love this, and that it's hard to come by."

He handed her a heart shaped box, and her cadence softened.

"Chocolate?"

She popped a piece in her mouth, then hummed happily as her shoulders drooped. Wheatley smiled at the blissful expression on her face.

"Do you like- MPH!"

Before he knew what had happened Chell was kissing him, and the world was sweet.
