Chapter Thirteen: Relapse
Tommy laid in bed with Kimberly snuggled up against him. They were basking in the after glow of their love making. The crane and falcon cried out happily, the bond they once shared reestablished. When the two rangers pressed their hands together, tiny flashes of pink and white formed a little heart before disappearing. With everything that had happened in the past couple of days it didn't even phase them.
"Guess our Ninjetti spirits are pleased." Tommy chuckled.
"Apparently." Kim giggled.
"Kim, do you remember when we used our Ninjetti powers to save Zordon?" Tommy asked.
"How could I forget? It was a pretty important time in our lives." Kim said.
"What if we used them to destroy the evil inside you?" Tommy suggested.
"Do you think that'll work?" She asked.
"I don't know, but it doesn't hurt to give it a try. We can get the others to help out too." Tommy said.
"Would it work though where I'm the one whose infected?" Kim questioned. Her brow furrowed as she frowned. It sounded like a good idea in theory, but actions were stronger than words. She wanted to believe it could work, but there was a lingering doubt in the back of her mind.
"We'll find out tomorrow. Let's get some sleep, Beautiful." Tommy soothed. Kim smiled at him before snuggling deeper into him. She'd keep her negative thoughts to herself, and only hoped that his theory was right.
The rangers returned midmorning the next day. Tommy and Kimberly were noticeably closer, causing the veteran rangers to exchange knowing looks. When everyone was gathered in the lab Tommy explained his plan.
"Theoretically it could work, but we've only used our powers to revive Zordon. There is a chance that one with infected powers could cause catastrophic results." Billy pointed out.
"We should try it, but I think Kim should have the final say." Rocky said.
"I want to try it, but I don't want to put anyone at risk." Kim said hesitantly.
"I don't think we should try it here at the lab. If Kimberly loses control then Mesagog will know where our base of operations is. It would make more sense to perform this ceremony at another location. " Haley said.
"I didn't think of that. You're right Haley. Where do you think we should do this?" Kim asked.
"Personally i think this whole thing should be done in the forest away from populated areas. Not only do we need to keep your identities secret, but if the situation takes a turn there doesn't need to be any civilians around to get hurt. Also I think only the ninja rangers should go. We still need rangers available to protect the city in case Mesagog tries again." Haley explained.
"Haley, please find us a suitable location and the coordinates." Tommy said.
Half an hour later, the ninja rangers stood deep the Reefside forest, far from prying eyes. They all stood in a circle as they had when they first received their powers from Ninjor. Aisha reached for Kim's hand, giving it a comforting squeeze. Kim smiled sheepishly back at her friend.
"All right guys, let's do this." Tommy said. Simultaneously, the rangers all lifted their arms up, so that they touched hands. Closing their eyes, the team called upon their animal spirits. One by one, each one began glow their respective ranger color. The falcon, frog, ape, wolf, and bear rose up from the rangers looking directly at the off color crane above Kim's head. The colors of her friend's spirits intensified directing their power at the crane. She felt the warmth of their love spread over her, and believed it would work. Then came the darkness came and so did the pain. It was like a knife to her heart, and Kim cried out doubling over.
"Kim, what's wrong?" Aisha demanded.
"Mesagog's power is taking control!" Kim exclaimed.
"Fight it Kimberly!" Tommy ordered. The slippery coils of darkness tangled inside her, vying for control. The crane let out a strangled cry as the black tendrils seeped out of Kim to pull the crane back inside. The falcon reached for the crane only to be slapped away by a stray tendril. The animal spirits made an uproar even though there was nothing they could do. The crane darkened as she was pulled back back inside the pink ranger.
Dropping to her knees, Kimberly let out an agonized scream as the evil took over once more. Her eyes glowed pink as she looked up at her fellow rangers with a look of hatred.
"Foolish rangers! You'll never remove the evil." Kim said darkly.
"We'll save you Kim." Tommy promised.
"You should focus more on saving yourselves." Kim sneered. She lunged for Tommy, unconcerned with her lack of ranger suit. Billy and Rocky jumped into action, each grabbing one of Kimberly's arms. They pulled her away from Tommy, restraining her. An invisiportal opened and Elsa, Zeltrax, Electronix, and tryannadrones stepped out.
"Hello rangers. Thank you for making it so easy to find our pink ranger." Elsa sneered. Tommy and the others surrounded Kim protectively, despite the fact that she was currently struggling against Rocky and Billy.
"She doesn't belong to you." Adam snapped.
"That's what you think ranger." Zeltrax said.
"Billy. Rocky. Take care of Kimberly and call in the others. Aisha, Adam, and I will handle these guys." Tommy ordered.
"Affirmative." Billy agreed. The white, black, and yellow rangers morphed then charged into battle. Zeltrax went straight for Tommy, his obsession for revenge driving him forward. Aisha and Adam went up against the tyrannadrones and Electronix. Elsa calmly made her way to where Kimberly was being held.
Before she could attack, beams of light shot down as the rest of the rangers arrived on scene.
"Nice try Elsa, but you're not taking the pink ranger." Connor said.
"Outta my way rangers if you know what's good for you." Elsa snarled. The Dino Thunder rangers took on Elsa while Kat, Zack, and Jason joined their other Mighty Morphin comrades in battle. Meanwhile Kimberly continued to fight the grip Billy and Rocky had on her. Without the aid of her powers she was unable to break free. Suddenly Kim slumped over, leaning against Rocky.
"Kim! Aw man, she fainted." Rocky said worried.
"We'll set her on the ground." Billy said. When their grip on her loosened, Kim struck out shoving them away from her.
"It was a trick!" Rocky grunted.
"Of course it was a trick! It's not my fault you fools are so quick to believe I'm weak." Kim sneered. Billy and Rocky morphed, realizing that there was no choice now.
"Morph pink ranger." Elsa ordered.
"Don't you think I would if I could? My good side surrendered the morpher to these fools, and I have no idea who has it." Kim snarled.
"Of course she did. Fine then, we'll find out who has it." Elsa snapped.
She drew her sword and charged back into he foray with the Dino Thunder rangers. Billy and Rocky joined the veteran rangers in their battle against the other goons. The pink ranger glared at her former teammates. They'd all abandoned her after the letter. All of them, except Trini. Her one and only friend was dead. It was her fault. A lone tear slid down her cheek as she walked towards the veterans. She didn't need her power coin to kill them. She looked at Tommy who was preoccupied with Zeltrax, longing to duel with the white ranger. Zeltrax's obsession with Tommy was creepy, and unimportant. At least Kim's desire to kill the white ranger was reasonable.
"Zeltrax, enough! I want to fight the white ranger." Kim snapped.
"You don't tell me what to do! Tommy Oliver is mine!" Zeltrax shot back.
"I don't think so." Kim said. She jumped into the fight, taking both Tommy and Zeltrax by surprise.
"Kimberly! No!" Tommy exclaimed.
"Useless human! You have no power here!" Zeltrax snarled. He backhanded Kim, knocking her out of the way. She hit the ground hard, tasting blood and feeling the teeth rattle in her skull.
"Kimberly!" Tommy exclaimed. He rushed to her side, enraged to find blood seeping out of the corner of her mouth. Dazed and pained from the blow Kim looked up at Tommy to find his fists clenched. Zeltrax plowed into him, knocking the white ranger away from Kim. She fell back to the ground, head striking the rocky ground. Darkness wavered at the edges of her vision when she heard Elsa screech, "Electronix, use your freeze gauntlet to turn these rangers into popsicles!"
