Chapter 100: Eternal Tomorrow

The sandy shore of Saragel disappeared, as did the sparkling seas. Revisiting the past was over with. Now, she had to go to the future, where her friends were waiting.

"Huh...?" Amara said. Now she could only see white, except for her hand in front of her face. And her torso. And her legs. "What...? Inanis!"

"Yeah!" Serena said. "Everything here but us is gone. It's back to plain old Inanis."

"Except this time, there is nothing here...at all." Nathan said. "Not even Amurdad's ruins. Just white space, as far as the eye can see. Emptiness - what Inanis stands for."

"Sure beats seeing ghosts of people killing each other." Blaine said, shuddering. "For once, I'm happy to see this place. Now that it's back to its usual self, Inanis is...kinda nice."

"You think so? It's just empty. But perhaps compared to what was here moments ago, even that's preferable..." Alastair said.

"All the Divine Sparks must have been reverted. Even Kanaloa's." Aimee said. "I don't even feel anything around this centre point anymore. This might be a little early, but I think we won."

"Absolutely!" Karl said. "Not a single Shadow in sight. The war's over. And Janus is nowhere to be seen...or heard."

"Then I guess all's well that ends well? You whined and whined until fate caved in to your demands! What a stunning victory!"

"What – who's there?!" Amara demanded.

"That's...me!" Ethan said, stunned. "Or rather..."

Sure enough, a dark cloud of red mist appeared, although it seemed faint. Within this smoke, was a transparent humanoid shape, that regained colour...Nihane Kronos.

"Ha... You actually did it. Even if you had to team up in the corniest way you could...sickening. Nevertheless, you finally made good on your threats and beat us all. No more Ater Vox to worry about, huh? No more Shadows running around, so you can all go back to lazy, boring lives in a city that offers you entertainment at your fingertips!"

"What? You think we were better off fighting for our lives, day after day?" Other Blaine asked. "That's bullshit! You've got no right to lecture us!"

"Even after you've lost, you're still trying to deride everything we stood for..." Other Nathan said. "How pitiful."

"Hehe...HAHAHAHA! Haha...ha." Nihane's laughter quickly turned from its usual mocking, arrogant tone, to one of pitiful misery. "Don't let me upset you glorious heroes any further...I've got nothing left. Janus is gone, and all the Shadows with it. Before long, Inanis will disappear. No one will ever get another glimpse at Amurdad, you know. Once all of you are gone, its memory will fade again, forever. And you call that a victory..."

"Your ancient homeland may have suffered terribly, Nihane...but you can't put the future on hold because you miss the past." Other Amara said.

"Amurdad was a beautiful place...in its memories. The Amurdad you would have created would have just been a replica, trapped in those memories. We have to move on." Other Serena said.

"Don't make me laugh..." Nihane said. "My Amurdad was never going to happen. No point speculating what it would have been like. I thought at least Janus could take you guys out once and for all, but it couldn't even do that! But, it isn't all bad. You at least did one thing for me...you proved me right."

"About what?" Tara asked, confused.

"Many years ago, when a great deal of you were just children, I was still an isolated, reserved individual. Often, I debated with myself what the meaning of my existence was. I had no roots anywhere, so I wondered who were my family, and what they would have wanted from me. One idea stuck in my mind, for a while. And now you've proven my hypothesis correct."

"No. Surely, you don't mean -"

"That's right, me. There is no meaning to my life at all. Not a single reason for me to even be here. I was just an anomaly the universe was too ashamed to acknowledge. I gave my all into becoming the leader of a new, glorious Amurdad, but that was destined for failure...therefore, I may as well never have been born."

Ethan bit his lip, shaking, but kept quiet. Everyone else looked at him, stunned. The words they had just heard were of a broken man, ready to face the afterlife in utter isolation. To take solace from such a nihilistic epiphany...Nihane Kronos was a faint spectre of himself.

"Hahaha...go on, have your precious freedom! See if I care...nothing I did ever mattered. And it won't matter what you think of me. You have want you wanted...no need to cry. I'll just go away, and leave the world to die on its own terms...how soon will that be, I wonder? Not soon enough..."

Nihane shut his eyes, and his face vanished into the smoke, which dispersed. It flew through the air, and briefly touched Ethan's hand. He gasped, and his lips trembled.

"You didn't need a reason to be here..." Ethan said. Tears trickled down his cheeks, as he gazed up at the sky. "No one needs one...they need to choose that for themselves! You...idiot!"

I thought...beating Nihane would be a chance to celebrate. But it just feels so pointless. How am I supposed to cheer about defeating him, our sworn enemy, after seeing him so defeated? To go into the next life, convinced his own life was meaningless...I don't want that to be me. Nihane Kronos, as much as I hated you...rest in peace.

There were a few moments of silence. Ethan wiped his eyes, but his sorrow was not so easily numbed. Then, he stepped into the very centre of Inanis. Holding his hands up, he summoned Sraosha.

"H-Hey. What are you up to now?" Roger asked, worried.

"Isn't it obvious? I need to lower the city onto Inanis. One that happens, things will finally be where they are supposed to." Ethan said, concentrating. "I may need some assistance, however. I'm sorry to have to depend on you yet again, but my strength isn't quite enough."

"As if you needed to ask." Karen said. "One last task for our Personae? We can do that."

"Absolutely. Cities belong on the ground, not in the sky. Look what happened to the Kingdom of Zeal." Serena said.

"...Yes, I'm sure we can all learn from...that." Priscilla said, laughing awkwardly.

"Once we do this, everything should be normal, right?" Amara asked.

"There may be remnants of Shadows left, such as those used in the smaller generators around the city. Yet those shouldn't be difficult to deal with. Rest assured, I will safely find you a way home. It's the least I can do." Ethan said. "...I suppose this is goodbye, Inanis. Empty as this place is, it's forever a part of me."

Everyone summoned their Personae. With Sraosha, they flew up high, onto the base of the city. Each one grabbed it with their hands, and it began to shake tremendously. Six beams of light appeared, below each district. Strangely, the area of Kanaloa wasn't just an empty hole anymore.

Before long, the city came lower and lower, and the barriers surrounding Inanis were completely destroyed. There was a great flash, and everyone's surroundings completely changed. The feeling of being in a void was gone. Amara felt the cold breeze on her face, and as her vision cleared, she saw many colours other than white.

Looks like it's time.

|Other World|5:01 am|

"What the -"

Amara couldn't believe her eyes. The buildings around her, mostly run-down homes and grim apartment towers, were of Kanaloa. Yet she had not returned to her own world. Rather, she had remained in the other. The square around her, somewhat pretty in comparison to the surrounding area, consisted of a monolith monument – listing names of those who had participated in warfare.

"Pride Square?!" Blaine exclaimed, astounded. "Why the fuck are we here? Kanaloa...got destroyed, didn't it?"

The Other Blaine, plus Dan, walked towards the monument, and touched it. Sure enough, their fingers felt cold stone, and the engraved names of brave men and women. There was not a single trace of Aeternus, not anymore. Kanaloa of 2002 had finally returned, brick by brick.

"Look!" Serena gasped. Amara looked around – there was nothing surrounding the city anymore. No metal barriers, no hellish vortex. And the sky was dark, of course, but it was five am on a December morning. Time had refused to end after all. And so had life itself.

"Ah, I understand. We're here because of the Chamber of Eternity. The sole part of Amurdad's legacy that still exists." Ethan said. "...And forever it will stay buried. My ancestors will be happier that way."

"It's so real - no, it IS real!" Tara said, in awe. "I...never went near Kanaloa before. I can't believe I'm saying this, but it's...beautiful. There's no creepy malevolent architecture anywhere. It's just a normal place."

"Then, does that mean that...the city's finally back to normal?" Aimee asked, hopeful.

It's...really over. There's nobody left to oppose us anymore. I took a while, but...I always knew this day would come! We've got our city back!

"...Yes." Ethan said, nodding. "For the first time in ten years, New Motus City is open to the world."

There was a long silence, as the team stared around at the area. There wasn't a single thing wrong with the sky. The clouds, few as they were, were not too close. And there was no wall to keep the people shut inside. For the first time, Amara could safely say this world looked liked her own.

Tara's right. Kanaloa is pretty if you look at it the right way. But I can't wait to see what the rest of the city looks like!

"This is the start of a new age." Aimee said, gazing to the starlit sky. "This island will be caged no more. The word must spread that we are free! We can rebuild our lives, all of us! And there will be no shadows to darken our days!"

"Yes!" Aimee said. "We've truly won. Kanaloa is back at last!"

"It's just as I remember it!" Matthew said, tearful. "My home...it looks like shit, but...it's really home! I finally came home!"

"Y-Yeah..." Dan said, overcome. "It's...all here again..."

"I never thought we'd be back here..." Other Blaine said. "This place...Pride Square...it's the only part of Kanaloa that looks worth a damn. I..."

Overwhelmed, the three men embraced, crying from sheer relief. Sophie, too, looked relieved, gazing all over at the familiar sights. Other Amara stood by her, proud. This had been the reason to go through all of their hardships. To wrest back happiness.

"Everyone, we've finally done it. There's no more Aeternus Corporation! No Shadows! For the first time in ten years, New Motus City can see the ocean." Priscilla said, ecstatic. "And it's all because of us!" She hugged Other Nathan tight, shedding tears of joy. Tara smiled, equally joyous, and let out a hearty cheer.

"Serena." Kyle said. Other Serena looked at him, grinning ear to ear. "We might not have a hideout anymore, and it might be freezing out here, but...I've never wanted to celebrate more than I do now!"

"Then that's what we need to do!" Other Serena said. "Let's get the whole city into the swing of things! After all, their lives can finally begin again. The children who have never ocean can finally go see it! We can go up the hill, or go see Clairdol anytime we want! I knew when I met you that I was onto something good!"

"W-what?" Kyle asked. He blushed, smiling, but shy. "Well...I'm sure glad I met you now. Having you by my side when we were up there...it sure helped."

"Feel good to be home?" Karen asked, holding Roger's hand. She held it tightly, making sure never to let go.

"Hell yeah it does..." Roger said. "Look...you can make out the stars so clearly. What a night.."

"What do you mean, what a night?" Lucy asked, incredulous. "We just saved the whole world! And just think, no one in my family's ever done that before. I think it's about time we did throw a party! Biggest one this island's ever seen!"

"We should get going, then!" Shirley said. "No one's here except us, but if we go beyond, we can spread the good news! There won't ever be another Shadow on the streets. No more Interitus or Ornatu Legion. The future is ours again, now and forever!"

"Now a city-wide party sounds just my kind of thing." Richard said. "Just wait till I get my new comedy routine going. They'll be laughing their asses off!"

"Or kicking yours." Alastair said, slyly.

"Those people will be in the mood for amusement again." Bianca said, happily. "And flowers can bloom without having to suffer. I...can't believe I'm really thinking like this!"

"It's a good day, Bianca. That's why. We've not had one of those in ages." Kazuya said. He took her in his arms, and kissed her. Richard and Alastair cheered, the latter practically leaping up and down.

"Okay, then it's decided. We take the celebrations to the entire city. Sure, everyone should be asleep – but on an occasion like this, who cares? The entire world will see us, rejoicing our freedom!" Alastair exclaimed, his voice filled with wonder.

"I wish we could stay, but..." Karl said, anxious. "It's five in the morning now. There are people waiting for us over there."

"Yes!" Amara said. "I've got to tell my Dad I'm okay! No, I have to show him!"

"And my parents!" Serena said. "I...I really want to see them...I know it's five in the morning, but...I want to tell them how much me and Nina love them!"

"I've got a lot of people to apologise to...hehe." Blaine said, blushing. "Dammit, I gotta see that bro of mine!"

"At least we'll never have to leave them behind again." Nathan said, voice swelling with joy. "It looks like...we're going home."

"Yes, you must." Aimee said. "Now you can finally lead normal lives again. You really kept to your word, didn't you? You could have stayed in your own world, safe, but you put yourself in danger. I can never repay you. Ethan, is it still possible to use the NDDs?"

"There are still some Shadow generators around. For the moment, we can still use our Personas and the Shadow-based technology, but there's no more danger on the streets anymore." Ethan said. "Come with us. I'll find a functional NDD somewhere. Once you take it, though, we'll have to think about how to safely remove all the generators and all traces of Shadows."

"Does that mean we'll never be able to come back?" Amara asked, worried.

"Eventually...yes." Ethan said. "But I'm sure we can arrange a proper goodbye when that time comes. For now, I think you ought to spend the last few days of 2012 at home. It is the season of goodwill, after all."

The large group made their way through the empty streets of Kanaloa, into the crowded streets of Saragel. There, people were still in shock, gazing around. Many were running towards the promenade, screaming with excitement, and most were hugging each other out of sheer happiness. A better life was ahead – that was the feeling these people shared.

"Okay, everybody, good luck with everything! We'll come back sometime in the New Year, that's a promise!" Amara said. "This isn't goodbye. Not just yet. It's been one heck of a journey, helping your rebellion, but it looks like it paid off."

"Yeah. But you can't count on me to deliver pretzels anymore, Kyle. Just wait until the snack stores are open again." Serena said, happily. "Maybe next time you see me, I'll be in college!"

"Party hard, kids!" Blaine cheered. "Cause you've got a lot of work ahead of you. But...hard work isn't all bad. You'll feel proud, every single day!"

"It's a wonderful day..." Nathan said, looking at himself, the Other Priscilla, and Tara. "But I have something even bigger ahead of me. I can finally start moving towards my own family."

"Aimee, you and I will see each other again. Don't cry, okay? We can say our farewells later. For now, you've got to celebrate! You're not alone, remember. These guys are your family too." Karl said, wiping away tears from his eyes.

"One last thing." Amara said. "There's one guy who will be partying harder than anyone else. Make some noise, so he knows you're with him!"

"...Right." Aimee said, as she shed tears of joy. "Then since we won't be seeing you for a while...Merry Christmas! And Happy New Year!"

Ethan walked off with the five, as the once-anxious citizens began to whoop with joy. The Ornatu Legion ran around, joining in the excitement, and before long, people were singing and dancing. Perhaps it wasn't quite a festival, but now the city could finally prepare for those, and countless other events, without peril.

Finally, Ethan led them to an old store, and there was a NDD there. He marched up to it, and flicked it on. He then turned to them, and...smiled.

"Well, I don't know quite what to do with myself in the future." Ethan said. "But quite frankly, I just want to join the festivities. If only you had the chance to stay a little longer."

"Sorry, bud, but there's an amazing girl out there waiting for me." Blaine said. "Can't let her think I've kicked the bucket."

"Ethan, you take care of yourself." Nathan said. "It must have been harder, going through all of this, but now you have your life back again."

"Will you come back to our world as well?" Serena asked. "After all, you're technically from there!"

"It won't be quite that simple." Ethan said. "This body is from this world, and I'm classified as dead in yours. It would cause some confusion if I were to live there again, looking exactly as I did then. Of course, staying here has its own problems. Let me worry about them, you all. It's about time you went home."

Serena, Nathan, and Blaine nodded. After giving Ethan a handshake, they walked through the gateway, finally returning to their home. Amara, however, lingered a little longer.

"You'd better keep an eye on your necklace." Ethan said, smiling. "I won't be there to find it if it goes missing again."

"Oh, don't you worry." Amara said, confident. "This ankh is staying right where it belongs. I'll have to tell my mother all about you someday."

"Ah, I see. She must be proud." Ethan asked.

"I know she is." Amara said, happily, holding up the ankh.

"Of course. How many daughters get to do what you have?" Ethan said, pleased. "Time you got moving. Bye, Amara."

"Yeah. Bye for now." Amara said. She momentarily held out her hand. Then, giving in, she hugged Ethan warmly. He gasped in surprised, but soon smiled, letting himself hold her. A friendship that had faded was now bright again. Without turning back, she ran through, to be greeted with the Normal World once more.

|Normal World - Farawell|5:24 am|

"Sorry I kept you all waiting." Amara said, as she shut the warehouse door. "I...I think we all know where we need to go."

"That's right." Karl said, stretching. "You guys will be okay getting to wherever you're going, right?"

"Yeah. I've got a goddess of the moon inside of my soul now. I can take anybody!" Serena said. "Not that we'll need to do that anymore."

"Thank goodness. Now I can spend my evenings reading all those books from Christmas!" Nathan said.

"Living on the edge, eh?, Well, next time I'm out with you guys till five in the morning, it better not involve giant doors and ancient palaces. Although there might be a club like that in this city." Blaine said.

"If not, then you and Kaman can build one! We can make the dance floor look like the place we fought Janus! And the servers can all dress up like Nihane!" Serena said, excited.

"How expensive would those uniforms be?" Nathan asked. "More than this suit, I bet."

"And if they were to start dancing, they'd just trip on their capes. And offer us a Shimmering Wasteland cocktail." Karl suggested. "With extra ice."

Amara and the others laughed out loud, but not purely because of this idea. They had won. Half a year had come, and these five young people had prevailed over a foe with the powers of a god. And it was now time to share the good news with those that mattered.

"Listen. We'll meet up soon and have our own little party." Amara said, excited. "Until then...you guys better have a good night!"

The five said their goodbyes, and before long, Amara was charging full steam ahead away from her apartment. Her heart was set on once place. Her family home, where her father would no doubt be waiting for her.

Father, it's because of you I'm here. Thank you for making this possible.

|Furaha Household|

Amara, on her way to her father's house, had seen many shocked people return to their homes. No one seemed to remember what had just happened, other than some sort of earthquake. Yet there was no apparent damage, just lots of hysteria.

I wonder what happened while we were fighting?

Before she could reach the front door, however, it opened. And standing in the doorway was the Amara had been longing to see for most of this evening.

"...Dad?" Amara said. He stared deep into her eyes, and a tear fell from them. Amara couldn't hold back her own tears – of unbridled joy. Soon enough, she was running down that familiar path, past the lush grass and the big bushes, and was in her father's strong arms.

"Dad, I'm sorry..." Amara said, sniffling. "Can I...stay here tonight?"

"No need to ask...this is your home, Amara." Rudo said. "Whatever you get up to, you will always be welcome here. Always."

The two of them looked up at the sky, which was now clear. Its stars still twinkled, even if it was no longer pitch black. Such a beautiful sight could not be swallowed up, it seemed. It would be here every night, from now and forever. Even if Amara would not be here to see it, the next generation would.

"On a night like this..." Rudo said, after a long silence. "I once wandered alone, lost in the stars. So far away, but so bright, they were wondrous to behold. Little did I know that on that same night, a woman was walking by. Like us, she couldn't stop watching the stars. Then it happened. A shooting star, just as our paths finally crossed."

"...Mum?" Amara asked.

"That's right. Just like now, that necklace catches the starlight." Rudo said, warmly smiling. "Now there are three of us beneath the stars. Let's...stay here for a little bit, shall we?"

"That'd be perfect..." Amara said, resting her head against her father's chest. He held her close.

"Strange...before you came here tonight, I felt very afraid." Rudo said. "And now I can barely decipher what happened. All I know is...I am very proud of you, my beloved daughter."

"Dad..." Amara said, grinning. "Thanks. But I couldn't be where I am today without you."

"This has been a trying year..." Rudo said. "Yet we must look to what we have accomplished, rather than what we regret. And you, my dear...for some reason, it feels like you've managed something truly amazing. Thus...I was going to tell you on Christmas, but as we're here just now..."

"Tell me what?" Amara asked.

"It's been a long time since we went back home. Which means in the new year, you and I are flying back to Cairo." Rudo said, happily.

"...What!?" Amara asked, confused.

"Yes, Egypt!" Rudo said. "It's been so long. I think someone over there's getting lonely. Maybe we should pay them a visit, hmm?"

"That'd...be perfect!" Amara cheered. "When are we flying?"

"January 4th." Rudo said. "I...wanted to ask you earlier. I actually purchased three tickets several months earlier..."

"Oh." Amara said. "You wanted me to take...him?"

"I'm sorry. He seemed so interested in our homeland, I thought it'd be wonderful for him to see it. I...I only wish I could have taken you both sooner." Rudo said, awkwardly. "Tomas offered to hold the fort while we're away, so it might just have to be the two of us after all."

"I...don't know about that." Amara said, pondering something. "There just might be someone else I can ask. Someone else I can count on, besides you."

"Ah..." Rudo said. "It looks like you've made some good friends this year. Whichever one comes along, I'm looking forward to meeting them."

They relaxed, continuing to admire the grand spectacle of the starry night sky. As they did so, Amara thought she saw something out of the corner of her eye.

A shooting star.

|Nathan & Priscilla's House|

As he walked down the pavement, he saw confused citizens around him. Many seemed relived, yet perplexed, and many were returning to their homes.

"I'm glad they're all safe..." Nathan said to himself. As he walked down the pavement, he noticed someone running straight at him. Upon the sight of her, his heart fluttered. Gasping, he held out his arms. Running into them was his absolute beloved, the lady he now loved more than life itself – Priscilla Lancaster.

"Nathan! You're not hurt?! Thank heaven!" She exclaimed, concerned. She got a good look at his face. He shook his head, despite feeling a great fatigue all over his body. Relieved, she buried her head into his chest, sobbing tears of joy.

"I was never going to leave you behind." Nathan said. "Not in a million years. I'm an Albion, remember?"

"Yes, but..." Priscilla said. "More than that, you're Nathan. My Nathan."

"...That too." Nathan said, beaming, as he lovingly stroked his fiance's hair. Unable to control himself any longer, he kissed her on the lips, for as long as he possibly could.

I'll never have to do this again. Me and Priscilla have a lot more time to spend together now. Saving the world is a big commitment, but right now all I want to do is make one even bigger.

Finally, they let go, arms still around each other. Full of glee, they twirled around, the stars twinkling above them. No chaotic display of distortion would cloud their beauty ever again.

"Nathan. I was fighting with you over there, wasn't I?" She asked, suddenly.

Nathan, surprised, looked at her. Those piercing, inquisitive eyes, he could not possibly lie to.

"Yes. I...I couldn't tell you the truth until now. How could I tell you that I was going to be in another world, fighting strange monsters with total strangers? You'd never get a night's sleep!" Nathan said.

"I know why you lied, you daft lovable bloke." Priscilla said, smirking. "But I also know how strong you are. Courage is something you've never lacked, not even in the face of death. Nothing scares you for long, does it?"

"As long as I get to come back here, I'll do anything to stay alive." Nathan said. "Now there's nothing to worry about. We can have a normal life again, just the two of us."

Priscilla shook her head, but smiled nonetheless. "Normal? I doubt that very much. You're going to be taking over Albion Inc, after all. Everyone's expecting big things from you. I've got to get in that orchestra somehow, even if I have to practice the flute for years. Tara and Adrian will be getting married quite soon, too. And most of all...our own wedding. We need to start making it happen."

Nathan's face went red, as held his future wife's hands. "So we've got a lot of work ahead for us. Doesn't matter. It's work we can do together. I promise, I won't let you down. We'll make this wedding a day to remember! Till then...it's a nice night, for five in the morning. Let's enjoy it. You and me!"

"You want to stand out in the cold night, and watch the stars?" Priscilla asked. "Well, seeing as its you...go on. You saved the world. Thus, I think you deserve a treat or two!"

The two of them walked to their front door, and Nathan held the lady he had been fighting for close to his heart. All of his pain seemed so far away now. Fighting would become a distant memory.

"How about we go to Rome during the winter holidays?" Nathan asked.

"...What? Where's this coming from? That Audrey Hepburn film we saw last week?" Priscilla asked, stunned.

"Let's just say I got the idea from a friend." Nathan said. "I know it's last minute, but if I pull a few strings, we can get there -"

"Let's do it!" Priscilla said, cheerily. "If it keeps you out of that other world, we'll be there tomorrow!"

You and me, Priscilla - let's let our love shine, like those who came before us.

|Serena's House|

Along the way to her house, Serena witnessed everyone returning to their senses. The most frightening night these people would probably face, and yet very few would know the real reason why it ever happened. Still, now the year could go on as normal. There would be a tomorrow, after all.

She thought about going to see Kyle. What had he been doing while she was away fighting, she wondered. Yet now was not the time. She had to go somewhere very important. Her own home. Her mother and father must be out of their minds with worry, and she couldn't tell them the truth. Not one word of it. Especially not what had happened in the Ater Peractorum.

At least Nina can finally rest in peace now. It's up to me to carry on the Agnethe name.

Quietly as she could, she went inside. Weirdly, she didn't see any sign of her parents being awake. Had they slept through the chaos? If this city had been through what the Other World's had, no one could possibly have dozed off while hordes of distraught civilians contemplated their own deaths.

Quietly, she tip toed upstairs. What she heard was the loud sound of her father snoring, and her mother tossing and turning. Normally, this would have irritated her to no end. Yet now she couldn't help but let out a tiny giggle.

"Serena, is that you...?" Hilda said, tired.

"...Maybe?" Serena said, sheepish. "Sorry, I couldn't sleep."

"Join the club. I have to listen to this lump snore most of the week." Hilda said, slightly amused.

"What's that...are we having leeks tonight?" Fred said, groggily.

"Go back to sleep, darling." Hilda said. "You too, Serena."

"Okay...sorry Mum." Serena said, blushing. However, when she went to her room, something caught her eye. Outside on the pavement, staring up at her window. The gentle cold breeze blew his messy hair, which she had grown to love. Even beneath those glasses, she could see those shy, but strong, green eyes.

Without a moment's thought, she bolted down the stairs, and ran towards him. Quickly, she hugged him as tight as she could, taking him by surprise.

"Kyle...you're okay!"

"I'm supposed to be saying that!" Kyle said, tearfully. "Serena, I finally saw it. You and I, over there...and everybody else! We used our Personae! To fight the Ater Vox!"

"How - How did you know that?" Serena asked, confused.

"While you and your comrades were in the other world, all hell broke loose." Kyle said. "The sky went weird, we were stuck in this giant vortex, everyone was outside screaming...and my mother went missing. Then, I saw everything – where you really were at night. Another world, fighting Shadows."

"Everybody's memories were leaking from one world to another. I learned that when you started talking about your dreams. They were just like what happened over there. You must have figured that out too, right?" Serena said. He nodded. "Kyle...my parents don't seem to remember a thing! Did they vanish too?"

"Probably. All of a sudden, the sky went back to normal, and the vortex was gone. The internet and TV went back on, too. And my mum was back in her room. She didn't know anything...and went back to bed." Kyle said. "Serena, you really kept one hell of a secret. I bet you were pretty awesome, fighting with that whip and your Persona. But is it over? You won't need to do that ever again, will you?"

Serena thought for a minute. With Janus out of the picture at last, there were no enemies vying for her blood anymore. For once, she could safely say that this time, Kyle was right.

"Yes!" She said. "I won't be getting into any more trouble. I promise, Kyle! Next time I fight, it'll be in the digital realm."

"I'll hold you to that." Kyle said. "Christmas is around the corner, you know. Can I...give you my gift in person? For the girl that saved the world, I think it'll be pretty nice."

"Sure." Serena said, smiling. "Hey, before I get back..."

"Hmm?"

She leaned in close, kissing him. As she expected, his face went red hot, standing out among the dark streets and lights.

"I never thought I'd ever get to do that with someone." Serena said. "Thank goodness it was you."

"You're really something, you know." Kyle said, gazing into his love's eyes. "But you're everything I ever wanted."

"We ought to get some sleep." Serena said, blushing as well. "Next year is going to be big for us. Just remember, Kyle. You might feel small in that wheelchair, but you're the biggest man in my life."

Kyle gasped. Overcome, he let the tears flow. Not of sadness, of course – joy. In both their eyes, the other was worthier than anybody else.

They parted, although it would not be for long. After all, the two of them were still young. Students or not, they were destined to be together. For now, however, there was a place Serena had to return to.

A place that for a while, did not feel like one at all. Yet in truth, it always was.

Home.

|Blaine & Dan's House|

Blaine, yawning, strolled into Kanaloa. For once, it was quiet. Rubbing his eyes, he noticed that barely anyone was outside, unlike Farawell. He had no idea what happened while he was away, but the place was still intact. Just like the other world.

Still a dump. But it's our dump, Dan. Hold your horses, I'm comin' your way!

As soon as he got to the house, exhaustion taking its toll, he barely got to put his key in the door when it flung open. Standing there, in those orange pyjamas he was fond of, was the guy Blaine had been waiting to see.

"Dan..." Blaine began. "I..."

"Come on, get inside. We've got a lot to talk about." Dan said.

Anxious, Blaine walked inside, and hung up his jacket. When he got into the living room, he could smell a fresh pot of coffee. Even though it was five in the morning, Blaine could use a good refreshment.

"Hey..." Blaine said. "You're not gonna believe any of this, but I swear, this is the truth. The real reason me and those new friends of mine kept meeting up is -"

"To fight Shadows in another world." Dan said.

"...What? How'd you figure that out?" Blaine said.

"While you were busy kicking butt over there, this whole city went crazy. I couldn't get a signal, the sky was fucked up, and we were trapped in some weird purple tornado type thingamajig. I wanted to go out and find you...but then I started seeing weird things in my head." Dan said. "The memories of my other self..."

Blaine gulped. That must mean that Dan knew something even bigger – the one thing Blaine didn't want Dan to know.

"Yeah. I know Matthew's over there, too." Dan said, eyes to the floor. "No wonder you never told me. Must have been hard, seeing him again like that."

"Aren't you mad?" Blaine asked.

"You got that right. You're always going off doing somethin' crazy like this. Never thought you'd set out to save the whole damn planet, though. You got balls." Dan said. "But...what if you hadn't been so lucky? I might have never known what happened to you. I can't lose another brother, Blaine. Not you."

"I know." Blaine said, sadly. "At first, I wasn't taking it too seriously. Then, after a while, I realised just what I had signed myself up for. Those Shadows weren't easy to fight...but we all did our part. But Dan, this time it's over. I won't be fighting again."

"Good boy." Dan ruffled Blaine's hair, and took a big gulp of coffee. "I saw Matthew in some of my visions. The little guy's grown up tough...already a detective, eh? So he got to follow his dream after all." he said, grinning. "Still a hyper goofball, too. At least he's happy over there now."

"I..." Blaine said, still anxious.

"Hey, relax. You're home safe and sound, and you accomplished what you set out to do. No more Shadows to brawl with, eh?" Dan said. "Then just remember this. No more secrets. Got that? No matter how weird they sound, I wanna know."

"Y-You got it." Blaine said, managing a smile. He drank from his coffee mug, and sighed with relief. It was still the best cup of joe he had ever known. "A few times, I thought I might not make it back here. Especially tonight. But I couldn't just leave you on your own."

"You're gonna flee the nest sometime, though." Dan said, grinning. "But hey, that doesn't mean we can't have a man's night every once in a while. And there's way too many pubs and bars to try out alone. I need my drinking buddy with me!"

"Hell yeah!" Blaine said. "You ain't escaping from me that easy, big guy. It'll be like I never left! C'mere..."

The two quickly hugged each other, both joyous. Blaine was all to happy to be in his brother's good graces. Fear had set in, but faded quite fast.

"You know, Blaine, there are other people that want to see us." Dan said. "And there they are!"

Walking towards the front door, wrapped in their warm jackets, were two girls Blaine instantly knew. And at the sight of one of them, his heart leapt. Dan and him got up, and opened the door. Almost immediately, Lucy threw herself at Blaine. Tearfully, she lightly punched on his chest, barely able to speak. Anger, fear, love, relief, all of those feelings had reached boiling point.

"You stupid - you could have died, you know!" Lucy managed to say.

"Easy there, girl..." Blaine said gently, running his hands through her hair. "It's going to be okay now. No more fighting."

"You're damn right no more fighting! I don't care how tough you think you are!" Lucy wailed. "Just stay in this world! Please! You know how much I love you, don't you?! You can't just risk your life! Not if it means never coming home again!"

Blaine, quiet, simply held her close, letting her sob.

"Lucy, I...I fought so hard for all of us. So that me, you, Dan, Shirley and everybody else could keep on living." Blaine said. "We've got a future together, don't we? I don't want to lose that. Not ever."

"Future? Together?" Lucy asked.

"Yup." Blaine said. "It's about time we found a place of our own. Somewhere nice, for me, you, and Lilith. I think we're ready for that, don't you?"

"...More than ready!" Lucy said, wiping away her tears.

"Looks like those two are going to be alright. She was pretty pissed, though, the whole time we were coming over here. All those nights he was ought, and she couldn't reach his phone..." Shirley said. "At least that's over with. Dan, if these two are gonna be out of our hair..."

"Ah, righty. We'll get some time to ourselves, too." Dan said, grinning. He leaned in close to Shirley, and kissed her. "Come on, everyone. It might be five in the morning, but I think we can put together a celebration for Blaine the hero here!"

"But you and Lucy can't cook." Shirley said, sighing. "Guess it'll have to be me cooking this feast, then."

"Hey, don't worry. I'll give you a hand." Blaine said. "After all, it might be one of the last times I get to use that kitchen."

"Um..." Lucy said. "Before you get to work, there's something I wanted to show you. This was going to wait until Christmas, but seeing as we're all together now..."

"Yeah?" Blaine asked, curious. "We giving out gifts already? But I didn't wrap yours yet..."

"That is so like you. But my gift isn't the kind you wrap, so here it comes now!"

Lucy reached into her coat pocket, and pulled out something. A thin piece of hard paper, but Blaine could tell what it was right away.

"You wanted a real vacation someday, right?" Lucy asked, smiling.

Blaine read what was printed on the ticket, and gasped. A flight leaving on January 4th 2013. To Hong Kong.

|Karl's Apartment|

Karl walked to Saragel, heading towards his apartment block. To his surprise, however, he saw a large group of people having a conversation. The Holy Cross...and Keisha?

"Hey, look! There's the hero himself!" Richard said, pointing. Excited, he ran over, while the others calmly walked ahead.

"Richie!" Karl said, happily. "You guys, you're all alright?"

"Yes! Hallelujah!" Bianca said. "We all know what you've been up to. You and your friends's little mission."

"We can finally somehow make sense of our convoluted situation." Kazuya said. The others stared at him, strangely, but he just smiled. "I always wanted a chance to say that."

"I imagine you've been through a lot of stress today." Alastair said. "As have our other selves, and your friends. Even with everything you had to endure, you still managed to prevail. On behalf of this city, I thank you."

"Shucks..." Karl said, face red. "You four were pretty amazing fighters, you know. I saw you doing some pretty cool stunts. Like Bianca's flower attacks, or Richard's Ultraviolet Whirlwind."

"That's what he gets when he eats too many beans." Keisha said, giggling.

"Hey, that's mean!" Richard said, frowning. Although he didn't seem to mind. In fact, it was good to see Keisha in genuinely good spirits.

Wait a minute. I think this is the first time I've ever had a chance to speak to the Keisha of this world! She looks happier tonight. Looks like she's softened up.

"Oh!" Keisha said. "Yes. We didn't properly meet in this world until now. But you do know me, right? I recall seeing you in my visions."

"Yeah, that's right. Keisha Vivaldi." Karl said. "How come you're with these guys?"

"When everything was looking grim, I saw them trying to help everyone in trouble." Keisha said. "And then something clicked. It doesn't matter what happened in the past. What happened with mine and Richard's parents...what matters is now." Wiping away a tear, she gulped. "The other me...she died, I know that much. That's the last vision I saw. She went through a lot of pain, most of which I don't understand fully. But as she died, she thought of how much she loved this city."

"...Are you going to be alright?" Karl asked, concerned. "It must have been a shock, learning about all of this."

"I...I'll be fine, honestly." Keisha said. "I mean...knowing that I sacrificed myself to help so many people gives me a good feeling. And now that I've gotten to know these guys, I think I can put aside stupid grudges."

"Keisha." Richard said. "I might not be like that Matthew guy you remember, but...let's meet again. I want to know more about you. At least you don't have a dollar sign in your name."

"Really?" Keisha asked. "I'm...just a secretary at the mall. But, it would be nice to get out more. And you're...kind of funny sometimes."

"Well, I do read a lot of joke books..." Richard said. "Some ones you don't want your grandmother to hear."

"Oh god, not that after dinner speech one." Bianca said, disdainfully. "Trust me, Keisha, he's alright when he's being polite. Just don't encourage him."

"I'll bear that in mind. Hehe." Keisha said, smiling.

"So, Karl. What are you gonna do now?" Kazuya said. "I think I saw your boyfriend hanging around, you know."

"My boy – what?" Karl asked, face red. "How'd you know about that?"

"I...kinda blabbed..." Richard said, looking away. "I got talking about the guys on the team and their girlfriends, and then you and Liam came up, and I...um..."

"You can relax." Alastair said. "In this modern era, we should welcome love in all its forms. I can't speak for anybody else, but I'm happy for you."

"Perhaps not everyone can be so welcoming..." Bianca said. "My own uncle was never fully accepted by others. But those that do should always share their love."

"Doesn't matter if it's a girlfriend, boyfriend, or a Venus Fly Trap." Keisha said. "Go see them! I think I saw him too. Black hair, bit of a beard going on?"

"Righto. I better get going." Karl said. "Richard, see you some time. You all get some rest."

"Same to you. You've earned it." Alastair said.

"Adios!" Richard said. The Holy Cross plus Keisha left the area, chatting to themselves. Now Karl didn't have to worry about them. As he progressed, however, he thought he heard someone chuckling.

"...Are you sneaking up on me again?" Karl said, amused.

"Crap. I've lost the element of surprise."

Coming out from behind a bush was Liam, the captain of their team. Karl sighed with relief, and ran over. They gave each other a strong handshake, glad to see one another.

"Trust Richard to blab." Liam said. "At least his mates are quite accepting. So it's not so bad."

"You think the rest of our team will be okay with it?" Karl asked.

"If they want to win, they're going to have to be." Liam said. "But enough about that? What was happening earlier? No one seems to know! For a while, I remember feeling really scared. I was afraid everyone here would die. Yet the ground isn't shaking any more. And that dreadful feeling is gone..."

"I..." Karl said. Should I tell him anything? He wouldn't believe a word I said. And I can't just prove it. Not if I want to avoid freaking him out. "I think it was just an earthquake. I really don't know."

"You sure...?" Liam asked. "I guess it doesn't matter. Everything's normal now. And you're safe and sound. I...actually went out looking for you."

"You did?" Karl asked, surprised.

"Yes. I just...really wanted to see you." Liam said, earnestly. "If something happened to you, I'd..."

"Hey, what's this now?" Karl asked, smirking. "Not like you to get all mushy."

"This is serious!" Liam said. "It hasn't been very long, but being together with you...has been incredible. Every time I see you, whether we're on the training pitch, or out having a beer, or just having a walk along the beach...it feels so wonderful."

Karl, in awe, looked deep into Liam's eyes. They walked closer, and put their hands around each other's waist. A fledging relationship this might be, but there was definitely a spark. It mattered not what intolerant people thought. As long as those who mattered to Karl could accept, that would do.

"That's how I feel too..." Karl said. "I...I need to say something, though. Time and time again, I got really clingy with anyone I've been with...I don't want to push you away too."

"You won't." Liam said, shaking his head. He and Karl were so close now, each able to see the passion in each other's eyes. "I can accept you any way you are."

No longer could Karl resist the urge. He moved closer, eyes shut, and their lips met. Their embrace grew tight, as their true feelings bubbled up to the surface. This was not just 'early days', they realised. It was the beginning of something special.

"Just my luck. One of the best strikers in the club, and you're one of the best kissers too." Liam said, laughing. "Come on. Let's go inside. It's freezing here."

"Sure." Karl said. He held out his hand, beaming with joy. Liam took his hand, gently holding it. "This might just be the best Christmas I've had in years."

"Mine too." Liam said. "Maybe we should tell our families about us. Trust me, Karl, you'll love my sisters."

"Sisters, huh?" Karl said, anxiously. "That's nice. I...I've got a sister too. I think she'd have liked you a lot."

The smallest of events can completely change the fate of our world.

People will always wonder 'what if', forever reflecting on the past.

The impossible happened, and the events of the past were changed.

Two flows of reality began, growing more and more different.

Those rivers of fate met, and the time came for their souls to be linked.

They crossed the river, to an unknown world.

A great hardship was faced by them all, and with the power within them,

they did what seemed impossible.

They subverted a disastrous fate. It seemed inevitable that all would be lost,

but now these people have everything to gain.

And as time goes by, the pain fades, leaving way for happiness to take hold of their hearts.

|January 4th 2013|New Motus City Airport – Departure Lounge|11:13 am|

It was a new year for the people of the city. The bizarre earthquakes several weeks ago seemed to have been forgotten, and it was business as normal for the populace. Saragel's beach may be empty, but its nightlife pulsed vibrantly. Legarte remained the commercial darling of the city, the biggest stores packed each day. Takanawa remained a little slice of Asia, still selling its wares and its students continuing to excel. Nova Albion's class and elegance continued to impress all, and its businesses would thrive even more in the digital age. Farawell retained its historical architecture, being the starting point for many a tourist. Kanaloa was still a stain on the city's reputation, but this year, crime was on the decrease.

Now, Amara was preparing to depart the city, this time to return to her homeland. Despite all its recent troubles, she still cherished it, for both its ancient history and its modern memories. And as well as her father, one very good friend had been asked to come along. Sophie White sat next to her, admiring the view, while Rudo sat in front.

Things are looking up for our city. We got rid of Shadows over there, but did we do something about here? People seem to be enjoying their lives more. Even people in Kanaloa seem happy. Looks like our Personae are more powerful than I thought.

"I must say, Amara. I never thought you'd invite me to Egypt." Stella said, as the taxi approached the airport. She was wearing her blonde wig, except she had faint pink streaks near the ends. And her eyes were just her normal blue shade.

"If last year taught me anything, it's that life is full of surprises." Amara said. "Nasty ones, and good ones."

"Your year could have been an utterly mundane one." Stella said. "One of absolute safety, where you met new friends and worked hard in a new career. Alas, you were propelled into something greater. You met people that will forever be with you. Your career may have stood still, but your hard work has given everyone a brand new chance."

"I guess your strange fortune was pretty fortunate after all." Amara said, happily. "Trust me, though. From now on, things aren't going to be mundane. I know that, even without your help. This is going to be a new era for New Motus City, after all."

"Ha..." Stella said. "Well, I've signed up for those part time classes. That means, slowly but surely, I can shed my facade. Although I will miss introducing myself as Stella Cleon."

"You can bring out the costume for Halloween. Should scare a few houses!" Amara said, giggling. "Maybe we can write about this in Real People..."

"No. This isn't work." Stella said, shaking her head. "How can we relax when we have deadlines to work for? Let this be purely one thing – fun."

"Good thinking." Amara said. "And this time, I won't need to worry about what the Ater Vox are up to. Or how the rebels are doing in that tiny little basement. I can go there, with no worries..."

"Exactly. This will be simply a vacation, where the only thing to worry about are the airplane meals and in-flight movie." Stella said. "And just like in Glasswater, I won't be able to sense a single thing. For a brief period, I can be purely normal. Not a 'weirdo'."

"Do you really think there is such a thing as normal?" Amara said. "If you're a weirdo, Stella, then I wish everyone was one."

Stella looked up, and smiled. This was the greatest friendship of her life, Amara thought. Against all odds, the other world had failed to break her, but it had come rather close. Now it would be a distant memory, one never forgotten.

The taxi reached the airport, and the three of them left with their luggage. Rudo, in a good mood, gave the driver a big tip.

"Ah, it's been so long since I was last here." Rudo said. "As artificial as it may look, an airport is a magical place. A place to visit the whole world...and come home again."

"What a positive attitude. Heh. Now I see where Amara gets it from." Stella said, impressed.

"It's never made any sense for me to dwell on my misfortune. After all, I have far too much to be thankful for." Rudo said. "Stella, I hope you feel welcome in Cairo. I'll be sure to give you a grand tour."

"Thanks. But you can just call me Sophie." Stella said. The girls and Rudo walked into the airport. It seemed rather ordinary, with the usual trappings of a modern airport. After checking in their luggage, they went up stairs, to grab some brunch at the Big Eatings cafe. Rudo went to order, although there was a long queue. At least their flight wasn't leaving just yet.

"I feel guilty for letting him pay for everything." Stella said.

"Relax. He's always happy to treat people. And consider it a reward for helping me through the last six months. Hey...wait a minute. Look over there!" Amara said, standing up, Stella looked over, curious. "Isn't that..."

Sure enough, there was a congregation of surprised people. One's red hair stood out among the blonde and brown.

"Nathan?" Amara said. "Serena? Blaine?!" It was indeed her three compatriots, all of which seemed surprised to be in each other's company. Also there was Priscilla, Shirley, Dan, Lucy, Kyle. Sitting down, thoroughly confused, were a couple she assumed were Serena's parents. With them was a woman that looked a little like Kyle."What the heck are you guys all doing here?"

"We were gonna ask you the same question!" Serena said, astonished. "My family and Kyle's are going to Cologne for a city break...I didn't even know you guys had flights too!"

"Me and Priscilla are going to Rome." Nathan said. "I wasn't expecting to run into anyone I know at the airport, but here we are."

"Lucy and Shirley got us plane tickets to Hong Kong!" Blaine cheered. "All of last night, I was looking up the food there! It's gonna be freaking awesome! Lantau Island, here I come!"

"You'd think I'd have seen this coming." Sophie said, greatly amused. "All of us, heading off to exotic locales on the same day? That can't possibly be co-incidence."

"Of course not." Amara said, smirking. "I think someone up above might have had a hand in putting this all together..."

"Ah!" Serena said, exuberant. "I get it! A nice reward, for everything we did for him! It looks like Karl's out of luck, though."

"Not really. He and Liam are off to spend a few nights in Clairdol." Amara said. "Apparently, they're all loved up in the Berkshire Inn. Nice, huh?"

"Oh!" Nathan said. "The nicest hotel in Clairdol! Karl's in for a real treat. Their meals are exquisite! Right by the beach, too. It's the perfect romantic break, if you're willing to break the bank a bit. We'll need to go again sometime."

"Yes!" Priscilla said. "And it'd be nice to see this Liam, as well. Karl deserves someone really special."

"So where are you two off to?" Lucy asked, looking at Amara and Sophie. "Somewhere you can get away from my nagging, I bet!" She laughed, finally able to poke fun at herself.

"Actually, that's what I'll miss most." Amara said, sticking her tongue out. "Me and my dad are going back home, to Egypt. And Stella – no, Sophie here's tagging along."

"Ah yes...that's your real name, isn't it?" Priscilla said.

"Yup." Sophie said. "You'd be wise to remember it."

"Clever." Dan said, sniggering. He had his arm around Shirley's shoulder, who had in her hand a Cantonese phrase book. "I've never been anywhere out of this city till now...can you believe that? Thirty two, and this is my first real vacation."

"Trust me, Dan, you're going to love Hong Kong." Shirley said. "Everyone there's so friendly, I heard. And there's tons of places to see. In the Avenue of Stars, there's a huge statue of Bruce Lee. Me and Shirley can go look at the Ladies Market in Tung Choi Street. And at night, we have to see the Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade."

"Now there's somewhere else we'll need to go." Priscilla said. "Perhaps a honeymoon idea?"

"Maybe." Nathan said. "I'll need to hear the feedback first."

"You got it, pal!" Blaine said. "Hey Serena, you don't wanna introduce us to your parents?"

"What? No, I just..." Serena said. "We still need a cover story for them, don't we?"

"There's no need to lie. We simply tell the truths that they need to know. That we are all quite good friends." Priscilla said. "And as long as we grown-ups behave ourselves, there should be nothing to fear."

"That's me warned." Blaine said, laughing.

"You better not repeat what happened in Glasswater when we land." Lucy said, prodding Blaine in the chest. "But if you do, please, for the love of everything that is sorta kinda maybe holy, find better songs to sing?"

"Yes, your Majesty." Blaine replied, jokingly bowing.

"Ahem. Mum, you remember Dan, don't you?" Kyle said. "Everyone, this is my mother. Cheri."

"Ah yes, I remember Daniel. And it's a pleasure to meet the rest of you. You all seem quite friendly with each other." Cheri said, slightly smiling. "And I was worried Kyle wouldn't have many friends. I didn't expect him to be acquainted with so many adults, though."

"Kyle's very mature for his age." Priscilla said. "You must be quite proud of him."

"Smartest little guy we know." Dan said. "Don't you worry, we'll look after him."

"Ah, and...these are my parents. Hilda and Fred!" Serena said.

"It's a delight to meet all of you." Hilda said, scrutinizing the vast group. "Serena here was out quite late for most of last year...I hope she wasn't up to no good."

"On the contrary." Nathan said. "She's always stood up for everything good and just."

"Serena's a good girl." Lucy said. "Even if she spends too much time playing games with funny names."

"Hey, you're off to a place where everywhere has 'funny' names. You better get used to it!" Serena said, smirking.

"...Well, you're not a bad influence on her, at least." Fred said. "Our Serena seems to be much more outgoing this year than any other. If you lot are responsible for that, you have our thanks."

"It's alright. I think we're all better off for knowing each other." Amara said. "Although, we'll be busy after we get back from our trips..."

"Yeah." Blaine said. "I'll be working more hours, and me and Lucy will be busy getting our own place together."

"And school's going to be really busy..." Serena said. "If I want to get into college, I've got to hit the books big time."

"As CEO, I'll be occupied for most of the time." Nathan said. "And I need to plan this wedding. There are too many things to be decided."

"I still don't know what's happening with Real People..." Amara said. "But I'm not that worried. There's plenty of room for an artist in this city. And thanks to you guys, I think I can portray anything I set my mind to."

"So I guess we should make the most of today, then?" Shirley asked. "Alright then, when we're done eating here, us girls will go on a little shopping spree! I'll need to pick up some perfume!"

"Enforcing gender strereotypes, are we?" Lucy said, tutting. "Then again, how often are we at the airport? Might as well see if we can get any cool deals."

"Yeah. I was looking to get a good camera. The one on my phone's nice and all, but I want to get a proper high def one." Blaine said. "Kyle, you're the savvy one. You'll give me the low-down, right?"

"No problem..." Kyle said, anxiously.

"Please, Blaine, remember. There is no T in SD card. And also, they're not 'You is bee' cables." Lucy said, wagging her finger.

"This reminds me of when we started dating..." Fred said.

"I've got a lot to learn to get down with the cool kids..." Blaine said, scratching his head.

"Oh..." Priscilla said. "And if you're all worried about not seeing each other for a while, don't be. There will be one big reason to all get together, remember. One I really hope you all won't miss."

"Yes!" Nathan said. "Our wedding. It won't be easy getting you together with all the other guests, but I'll be damned if I let you miss out. Our future is only just beginning."

"Exactly." Amara said. "Everyone, let's make the most out of today. When we next meet up, we better have some great stories to tell!"

The various groups ate together, and then shopped together. The time came, however, for everyone to go to the different departure gates. Amara waved goodbye as they left to board their planes. In no time at all, she would see them again, and hear all their tales as they explored different countries.

Only difference is, I'm not going somewhere new. I'm going back home, where someone's waiting for me.

|Plane|13:00|

Amara had managed to get the window seat, and next to her was her father. Sophie had taken the aisle seat, and was looking rather nervous as the plane started to move faster down the runway.

"Here we go!" Amara said excited. She held her dad's hand, and the plane finally reached the momentum it needed. Up in the sky it flew, soaring above the giant city it served. Everything soon came into full view – the grassy plains, the forest, the hill, the theme park, and even Clairdol. The city from above was a sight to behold.

"Wow!" Sophie said. "I know I shouldn't be surprised, but it's still incredible!"

"I know! Look, you can make out the cathedral!" Amara said, pointing out the window. Before long, the island was out of sight. The endless oceans zoomed beneath them, beneath a bright blue sky.

"When we're at home, it feels like we're in a huge metropolis. It's only high above that we realise how small our island really is." Rudo said.

"It might look small." Sophie said. "But its heart is one of the biggest in the world. More and more people are coming to visit us. And a fair few of those stay to live here. And this year, a new motion begins for all of us."

"Hmm...I wonder?" Rudo said. "As long as we continue to prosper, I'll be happy."

Amara took a long look out of the window. It would be quite some time until Egypt would be visible, but she was shaking with excitement at the thought. The heat of the sun, and the remnants of a great legacy all around her - it was high time she had returned.

Mother, just wait until I get back home. There's a lot of amazing things I want to tell you about!

I am thou. Thou art I. With prosperity laying in wait, I too am glad to witness the future.

Mankind can evolve further and further. And I will do so with them.

Why? The answer is simple. Mankind, despite its many vices, is capable of miracles.

Today is yet another day I am convinced of this, like others before.

The two worlds can exist without consuming the other. All is well here.

A new motion of duality has begun, and I will be watching.

Until next time...Farewell.
