'Where is he?'

I'm starting to think that maybe Riley won't show up at all. Two whole hours had passed since I left the house and went hunting and so far the night has been quiet. Did Riley changed his mind? Or did he know I am not alone? Did he sensed Jane's presence and backed out? I'm a hundred years old vampire and I can't sense her, I doubt a young vampire like Riley can. He's vampire for how many years? ah yes two years. More importantly what is he doing here at Forks? Is he a friend or a foe? Millions of questions are running through my head that only Riley himself can answer but the little sucker still nowhere to be found.

'Where the hell is he?!' I almost scream when a rustling noise from behind reached my hearing, followed by the familiar scent of none other than Riley.

"Cullen"

"Took you long enough to show up, boy. One thing you should know I hate waiting." my tone is snappy and cold but he didn't even flinch. He just stood there looking at me with a neutral expression.

"I have to make sure you're alone and done with your hunting so nothing can interrupt us."

"Well it just me and you here now so stop stalling, Riley. What is your business here? Did Victoria sent you here to bring Bella to her? If so, then you have to go through me first. I won't let anyone, not even you, her friend to take her away from me." I said this with all the seriousness I can muster and for the first time I saw his expression changed from neutral to a mixture of regret, pained and hope. It confused me.

"Victoria did sent me here but only to spy on you and your family. She's aware of the pixie's gift and wanted to make sure that you're family still clueless of what she's planning. Victoria is careful not to make any decision but she wasn't convinced it was enough to stop the pixie's vision so here I am."

"Why are you telling me all of these then?"

"I want to make a deal with you." he answered seriously. His tone was firm and sure, the look on his eyes was determined and pleading. It confused me even more.

"A deal? I don't trust easily, Riley. How would I know you're telling the truth? For all I know it could be a trap." I told him not wanting to trust this guy even if he's an old friend of my mate.

"Did Bella told you her past in Phoenix?" when he saw me nodded my response he went on "then I guess it's only fair to tell you mine as it is connected to her."

"You think telling me your story will make me trust you?"

"For your mate and the people I care safety, I hope you will."

"People you care?" can't this guy anymore confusing? The more he open his damn mouth the more I got confuse.

"Just hear me out first, okay? I'll answer your questions when I'm done." with my nod of understanding he begin his story.

"As you already know Bella and I met at school in Phoenix. She and I got along easily I guess it's because we're alike in most things." Riley has a far away look remembering those times he had with Bella with a fond smile. Somehow it also made me smile as it confirmed that Bella's experience at Phoenix were not all bad, she also had a good ones she treasured.

"I was born and raised in Phoenix, my dad left us when I was ten so it's just only me and my mom. Mom's parents passed away even before I was born and she's an only child so we don't really have anyone. Mom was devastated when dad left, she cried almost every night when she thought I was asleep. She also became more workaholic than she ever been. I understand that raising me alone wasn't easy so I helped with everything I could. I cooked meals for both of us, clean the house, wake up early to go to school on my own, do the laundry, and so on… I didn't realized that I'm slowly distancing myself to my friends and before I knew it, they're gone. I found myself growing up alone, no family, no friends, no one cares. Or so I thought."

"Bree. She's my very first friend. She's also our neighbor. Before dad left she and I are very close, we played, go to school together and hang out in each other's house every weekend. It changed after dad left. I became distant and she became popular. Bree's became a bully, bitchy, hard-headed and a rumor queen. It became worst when Bella came."

"A beautiful, intelligent and stubborn Bella. Bree hated her. It didn't sit well for Bree that Bella's better than her in almost everything. She's insecure and jealous. For her, Bella is threat to her popularity It also didn't helped that I befriend Bella. It enraged Bree though at that time I had no idea why."

"Then the James' incident happen" Riley paused his story and took a deep unnecessary breath, he looked at me with pain and regret as he continue his tale.

"I saw what happened that day in school. It was raining,and I have no umbrella so I decided to stay at the building waiting for the rain to stop. I chose to wait in the astronomy club room but I got bored quickly so I decided to take a look outside using the telescope that was set up near the window. That's when I saw James following Bella to the hallway. I watched frozen as the scene played out itself. I want to go there save my friend but my feet won't move, I can't even turn my eyes away from the telescope, my knees were shaking and I was terrified. From the corner of my eyes I saw someone not to far from James and Bella's direction with a cellphone at hand, it was Bree. I thought she was calling for help when she left but I quickly realized that wasn't the case. Bree abandoned her. I continued watching though. I don't have cellphone with me, the building I was in was too far from Bella's direction and even if I'm near I know I can't help her seeing as I can't even move at all."

"To my relief and utter shock a big pale guy came to Bella's rescue. Everything happened so fast that my human senses failed to follow everything. The next thing I know they were gone. Including Bella."

"I didn't know how I made it home that day but I did. I was shock, terrified and felt utterly guilty. I locked myself to my room and cried. Mom was in a business trip so she had no idea of what's happening to me. I'm not sure how many days I locked myself to my room but when I got the courage to go to school again I found out that Bella is no longer a student there. Her family was gone. Disgusting rumors about her floating around the school and it made me mad. One day I got enough and decided to confront Bree. I yelled at her, cursed her and called her hurtful names. I was so angry at Bree and myself. I didn't even get the chance to apologize to Bella and the guilty feeling is eating me inside."

"Then Victoria showed up to my doorstep one night. She told me, she's there to get her revenge. She bit me but didn't drained me like I was hoping. For three days I was writhing in pain and only pain. After feels like forever the pain stopped and I woke up confused. I didn't recognized the place I was in but I recognized the woman I'm with. Victoria. She explained to me what I had become, a vampire. She had became my guide. She helped me understand some basics knowledge about vampire, taught me how to feed with humans and trained me to be able to protect myself from other supernatural. After awhile I asked her why she changed me she answered with 'revenge' and when I pressed on, she told me James was dead and my friend Bella was to blame. That she'll use me to hurt Bella, against Bella. I lashed out hearing those, I tried to kill her but Victoria was smart. She had Bree. A human Bree. Victoria held her hostage and used her to control me. I maybe angry at Bree but I still care for her. She was my childhood friend. I can't let Victoria hurt her. I failed to save Bella and I'll be damn if I can't save Bree too. So from then on I'd became Victoria's puppet."

"I haven't seen Bree in person until recently. I have a great control with my bloodlust now but because I was newborn when Bree was hostage, watching her through surveillance camera is the only way I can make sure she wasn't hurt. It was a month ago when I decided to finally see Bree personally as a vampire. She was surprised to see me, I guess Victoria didn't mentioned anything to her about me. When the initial shock had passed, Bree threw herself to me as she sob at my chest. I stood there stiffly soothing her awkwardly as I waited her to calm down. Eventually, she did and the two of us reminisce our life. I learned that Bree did everything she did to get my attention. Her popularity, the bullying, her being top of the class, her bitchiness… everything. The only thing that got my attention though was the horrible rumor she spread about Bella. That night Bree confessed her feelings to me. Obviously, I don't feel the same, I care for her but that's it. She's just a friend to me and I told her that truthfully. She looked broken but accepted it in one condition… sleep with her."

"I did. I don't know what came over me but I did. I told myself it just a one night thing. It's wrong but if it will make Bree happy for just a moment then why not? The girl had suffered more than enough alone as Victoria's hostage. She deserves one wish more to grant and that wish is for me to spend a night full of passion with her. And so I did."

"A week after I granted Bree's wish, something big happened. Bree's got pregnant. At the same time Victoria informed me that I will need to leave to spy your family. I can't leave Bree especially now that she's pregnant so I have Raul, an ancient vampire that indebted to me, kidnapped Bree. Victoria can't tell me that her human hostage was gone, kidnapped or had escaped in fear of what I might do if I found out. She's scared I'll betray or leave her so before I notice anything, she sent me here earlier than planned. Unbeknownst to her though, I already knew everything. It was my plan to kidnap Bree using Raul after all. So now here we are. I know we can't fool Victoria forever, sooner or later she'll find out what I did. I have to do something, I need Bree to keep safe, her and the child growing inside her." Riley said the last part looking straight to my eyes with determination and desperation for me to understand. He has that same look of honesty like Bella, and I realized what he said at the beginning of his story is true. Riley and Bella are more alike.

"I'm sorry for what you've gone through, Riley." I told him sympathetically as I know no kids deserved to experience that. Bella is going to be devastated to hear Riley's story and knowing her, she's going to blame herself for it just like Riley blamed himself for not helping Bella that painful day. After hearing his story I can't be mad at him anymore. Only him though. Bree's still not off the hook. No matter her reason was, it's not right what she did to my Bella. "Why don't you and Bree just run and disappear? Surely there's a lot of places to hide from."

"Bree's pregnant, I don't want to risk her health by traveling in fast pace. My gift won't work either. I have no idea what a teleportation would do to her body." my eyes widen with this information. Riley can teleport? So that's how he and Victoria escaped us in Port Angeles?

"I didn't know you can teleport." I told him honesty, I'm sure Jane is also surprised to hear this wherever she is now. I don't even know if she's really here. "Tell me about your deal. I can't give you an answer yet though. You should understand that every decision as big as this needs to be bring up to the family meeting."

"Understood. The deal is I'll tell you Victoria's plans, help you to defeat her and in turn, I want Bree to be protected and have Doctor Cullen to check on her condition. I only want them to be safe so I am really hoping you consider this." desperation can be heard in his voice but the thought of me protecting that bitch is just impossible. I hated Bree! God knows what all the things I'm dying to do to her and none of those are close from protecting her!

"That girl is lucky she's carrying your child, if not I might not consider your request at all. Meet me here tomorrow night. I'll give you our answer then."

"Thank you. I'll take my leave now. Till tomorrow, Cullen. Goodbye." Riley did not wait for my response not that I have as he disappeared to thin air. I was left there leaning against the tree with my mind trying to catch up with everything I learned tonight.

Riley didn't gave me a single damn clue of what Victoria is planning. The guy was smart. He knew me and my family dislike Bree so there's a chance that we decline his deal and if that happen, he have no other choice but to come back to Victoria's side. He will demand the protection of his family in exchange of his loyalty, Riley was sure Victoria will cave in. Without Bree Victoria can't control him. Riley will leave and Victoria knew he can and it will difficult to locate him because of his gift. So yes. Victoria needs Bree protected. Riley knew of all her plans, she can't let him go.

"So why did he came to make a deal?" I asked myself out loud trying to make sense of Riley's action. Victoria wouldn't hurt Bree that just stupid if she wants Riley by her side.

"Don't underestimate Riley's friendship with Bella, Rosalie." Jane's young voice floated from nowhere startling me in the process if its even possible for a vampire. Am I too absorbed with my thoughts that I hadn't noticed her presence? "Riley if he can help it, he'll save both Bree and Bella. If he stay with Victoria that means he'll have to hurt or worse kill her and he doesn't like that."

"He's going to be our enemy if we turn him down, isn't he?" I asked earning a nod of confirmation from Jane

"He may not be able to save Bella but he still have Bree to protect. If you ask me, I'll say accept the deal. Don't get me wrong, Rosalie, I hated Bree just as much as you hated her but the child she's carrying is nothing to do with his/her mother's sins. That child deserves to see the world, Riley deserves to make up for Bella and most of all? Bella deserves to live in peace."

"You think Bella can live in peace with that Bree around?! The girl who ruined her school life? The same girl who spread rumour about her being a whore? That bitch humiliated my mate to the whole school, Jane! I can't just let that all go! I should have kill her, torture her, not protect her like Riley requested us to do!" I am furious, the monster in me telling me to make Bree pay for what she did but the human in me, the side that Bella melted felt pity for the girl and for the child growing inside the girl. I don't know what to do.

"I know, Rosalie. God, believe me I know! I'd be lying to you if I said torturing the girl didn't came to mind, it did Rosalie, not once but too many to count. But we need Riley. If we want to catch Victoria, we will need him."

"Yes I'm aware of that, Jane. It's not only up to me though. My family and especially Bella has the say to this too."

"You're right. You should get back to your house, you've been out longer than usual I'm sure everyone is beginning to worry. Talk to them and decide wisely. I will see you tomorrow before you meet Riley."

"Are you going back to Bella?"

"Yes, she was asleep when I left her with Emmet. I better go before she wakes up. Goodbye, Rosalie."

"Bye, Jane. Thank you for coming here with me."

"Anytime, Rose. Anytime."
