I followed the human border line, running without pause towards the gulf of Mexico. Peter had always stayed in the south, never leaving his roots as they were. Texas and Mexico had been our hunting ground, a completely different world to Forks Washington.

I felt a surge of joy as the lush valleys and rivers gave way to the desert, mountains rising high above my head.

The sky was flushed with crimson as I grew nearer to my destiny.

This was coming home.

Peter had driven his monstrosity to the border and then parked it there in a garage he owned, before taking Bella and running with her.

He and Char would take turns carrying her, even though it wasn't necessary.

They were kind hearted folk, for vampires, and they would be bonding with my mate in their own way.

I felt another surge of adrenaline as the realisation that Bella was finally mine sunk in.

She was so fucking amazing, I could hardly wait to see how many changes had taken place in my absence. My venom would only perfect the abundant beauty Bella already possessed.

Now she would be unbreakable and beautiful.

Perfect.

I saw the homestead several miles out, immortal sight giving me unfair advantage. It hadn't changed a bit over the decades. Peter didn't like change a whole lot, unlike many of our kind he preferred the comfort of predictability in the long stretch of eternity.

Most of our kind liked variety and constant change to break up the endless expanse of forever, but mostly, the ever changing world around us made Peter value his roots.

The homestead was a house we had acquired together, in the late 1930's from an old couple we had fed off.

Peter and I had stayed on there afterwards, both of us liking the quaint old world feel of the place. It sat on a large spread of land, a ranch Peter still kept well stocked with livestock to avert an gossip from the rather distant neighbouring ranchers.

Peter and Charlotte were not vegetarian vampires and neither had I been, until I'd met Alice.

Charlotte had hated Alice from the very beginning, their personalities clashing the moment I'd introduced the two women.

There was jealousy from Alice's side and distrust from Char.

Charlotte had been convinced from the beginning that Alice was not to be trusted with me.

I was more than able to take care of myself, but I found the loyalty from my small family endearing.

The ranch was the perfect cover for us, allowing us to exist without exposing us to the humans around us for the monsters we were.

I smiled as I ran into the yard, the horses in the paddock beside the house shied away from the speed of my approach and cattle milled around lowing loudly.

I went to the door and let myself in without hesitation. This would always be my home and I knew that I was always welcome here.

I could smell the sweet scent of my mate from downstairs, it had changed subtly.

It was now even sweeter, more mysterious and multifaceted. She was almost halfway through the change.

Her heart was still sprinting wildly, her breaths fitful, punctuated by the occasional whimper or moan.

Still no screaming.

I was still emotionally bonded to Bella, I had felt her bright white light inside me the entire time I'd been apart from her.

Now, the bond strengthened, dragging me upstairs, urging me closer. It was as if she was calling me, begging me to come to her.

I burst into my old bedroom and found myself beside her instantly, my hands seeking hers out with a desperation I'd never felt before.

Our bond tightened around us as our hands joined, I could feel our bond, the strands of red silk binding us to each other. I could feel it in every cell of my body.

Our bond was filled with our passion, Bella's blood running through my body and our need for each other all consuming, our flesh joining – everything that was us.

Bella forced herself to look at me, her face pale and luminous, her eyes dark pools of pain.

Her lips trembled but no sound came from her.

You came.

The words echoed through my mind, startling me.

"Darlin'," I whispered, "I can hear you in my mind."

A chuckle behind me interrupted my shock.

"She's a special one, Jasper. You sure know how to pick them."

I didn't even look at Peter, my entire focus on Bella.

"What is this? Is she..?" I asked my vast mind running several different scenarios at once. In Maria's army we had often discovered gifted vampires among our new recruits, although nearly all the gifted ones had been terminated as soon as their skills became apparent.

Maria had never wanted a challenge, simply mindless soldiers willing and able to die for her.

Peter came to crouch down beside me, patting my back with warmth and familiarity.

"Your Bella seems to have some gifts of her own, Jasper and she's not even fully turned yet. God help us when she is."

I lifted my gaze to his momentarily, "Can she speak to you this way?"

He shook his head, smirk tugging at his mouth. "No, you're the only one so far that she has spoken to, but I saw it, long before this."

"You mean, she is a telepath?"

At that moment Bella whimpered, her fingers tightening around mine so hard it almost hurt. Yes, her mortality was almost over if her strength was any indication.

Peter reached passed me and stroked her forehead gently. "Yes, it's almost over."

I felt Bella's relief and joy at his words, she was listening to our conversation.

Jasper, don't leave me again...

I felt her light grow brighter inside me as she spoke to my mind.

"I won't, Darlin'." I promised, pressing a kiss onto her hand reverently.

Peter rose to his feet. "I'll see you both tomorrow."

I didn't question his statement, because Peter just knew shit.

"Alright, brother." I murmured, my gaze never leaving Bella's face.

The final change happened twenty-two hours later.

Bella's limbs were finally free from pain, I felt her relief when that ended. The pain in her torso, however, doubled at the twenty second hour and I felt every agonising moment, reliving the scorching heat willingly, to keep her company. My hand never left hers, even though her new glass like nails tore my stone flesh every time she squeezed it. Her strength was now that of ten vampires.

Bella was almost a new-born vampire.

She lay there panting wildly, her teeth bared as her heart gave out under the deluge of fire.

Twin needle sharp fangs stood out starkly as she gasped her last human breath.

And then there was silence.

Hers and mine.

Her eyes slid shut and for one moment she looked dead.

I admired her immortal beauty, a smile tugging at my lips.

Her face was doll like in it's perfect symmetry. It was a smooth oval made of alabaster, animated by two large, dark eyes. They were thickly lashed and stunning. Her mouth was even fuller than before, the top lip slightly thinner than the lush lower one. Dark winged brows slanted across a smooth white forehead framing all that dizzying beauty.

I was as still as only a vampire can be.

Waiting.

Bella finally drew in a long experimental breath of air and slowly her eyes opened to reveal a deep shade if scarlet.

Our eyes met and held, her fingers finally releasing their death grip on mine.

"Jasper..."

Her voice was different. It was sweet, husky and delicious.

I was instantly hard beneath my jean's.

I'm scared.

Her voice crept into my mind.

Everything's different.

"I know darlin'." I told her out loud, I wished that I could reply to her the way she could speak to me. "Its over now. You're immortal, Bella, you're like me."

A slow smile spread across her face, illuminating her face and reminding me of the human I'd loved.

"We can be together." She said softly, wincing at the sound of her own voice.

Her free hand lifted and was at her throat instantly.

"My voice is so strange." She said as her unparalleled senses tried to analyse everything at once.

She was distracted by the sight of her own hand and stopped, staring at it.

"Its all different." Bella whispered and then lightning fast she looked at me. "What do I look like? Do you like it? Show me!"

I laughed at her excited talk, pulling her into a sitting position. "I'll show you, come with me."

I led Bella to the antique mirror hanging on the wall opposite massive four poster bed. It was slightly mottled by age but its glass had a flattering honeyed tone I found pleasing.

Bella held my hand firmly, refusing to be parted from me for even a second as I pulled her gently towards the mirror.

She stopped abruptly when she caught sight of her own reflection.

Her free hand once again lifted to her face, touching her own skin with wonder. "I'm so..."

"Beautiful." I finished for her, reverently.

Her bright ruby eyes met mine in the glass and her lips lifted slightly in a smile.

Swiftly she turned to me, both her hands reaching up to hold my face.

"Jasper, you're so gorgeous." She said, her throaty voice going straight to my cock. She stroked a particularly deep scar on my cheek, which was only partially visible to a humans eyes. It had been healed with venom when I had first turned.

I ran my fingers along her jawline memorizing every curve.

Our lips were drawn together as gravity shifted and we crashed into each other with the ferocity of a landslide.

Our lips moved with a hunger which was too much for mortals to bear, I was no longer terrified of breaking her.

I wanted to own her, possessing her silky flesh had become my existence's ambition.

I gripped her to me frantically trying to meld our bodies together.

We could sense Charlotte outside in the corridor but we ignored her presence.

I could feel Charlotte's emotions and they were not worried, simply annoyed.

But Bella's lips moving against mine was a far more pressing matter.

I slowly thrust my tongue into Bella's mouth, mimicking what I wanted to be doing to her body.

A polite sniff outside the door caught our attention.

"Ahhh, Jasper, I don't want to disturb you, but we have some trouble incoming just a few clicks west of here." Charlotte said through the door, tapping her nails against the wooden door in a slowly rhythm.

She didn't feel that this was an actual problem, but she felt that she should let us know.

I stiffened.

"Who is it?" I growled, already knowing the answer.

"Its the vegetarians." Charlotte said scathingly, a soft snort following her words.

Bella stared at me, fearfully. "Its the Cullen's. They've come for me."
