Chapter 3: To the place that forgot us

"Achoo!" I rubbed my nose feeling the dust tickle my sinuses as we walked down the hallway, "Man would have thought that after all this time I would come back to a place I cant even call home anymore." I mumbled under my breath, I felt the two behind me start to regard me with a look of concern but said nothing. As we reached the end of the hallway and came into the grand hall, I heard some shuffling coming from one of the rooms downstairs and thought that maybe Vergil was doing his own raiding if he hadn't been dragged down to Limbo, "So a question, but why would someone send a couple of peons like you here?" I turned to look at both new heel leeches I had acquired.

"Actually yes." Kiba responded with a kind smile and put his hand over a very offended looking Issei, "Like I said previously we were sent to investigate where ever our master send us to clean up the messes of stray devils and the general occult." He started to reach into his back pocket for something, and almost immediately I took on step backwards, they both seemed to notice that and Kiba gave issei a strange look to which Issei shrugged, "I didn't mean to startle you or cause alarm, I was only grabbing this from my back pocket." He lifted his hand from his pocket holding what looked to be a pentagram looking symbol. I stared at it for awhile and found myself being coming super frustrated at the fact that this guy might be trying to play me for an idiot, I think it might have shown on my face as well because Kiba quickly said, "This is a teleportation rune made by the house of our Master, think of this like a quick way to get back to her if we need to." I had to admit it sounds kinda stupid to hear about and there were a few flaws that were inside of that story, but in the long run I guess that you can say that I didn't care at this point.

I was about to say something else when I heard a voice in my head, "Dante?" It sounded like I was coming from the hallway opposite from where we were, "Dante?!" I turned towards the sound and before I knew what was happening I heard it again, "How did they find us!" The voice sounded really familiar, "Vergil! Where are you?!" I saw the blue misty frame of a women he would never forget, a women who even though was clad in pure blue I my memory was able to fill in the color of her red hair and pale skin, I stopped.

"Who is that hot-" Issei started but then it sounded like he had a shar inhale of breath, "Sparda! Where are you?!" The frame stopped in front of the doorway and looked around frantic, she looked in a state of panic and extremely frightened, before I could even reach out to her she ran down the hallway and screamed a loud. Before I think I was already tearing down the hallway, I was joined by the sound of a second pair of footsteps and as I looked over I saw Vergil with a determined look on his face, I was going to ask if he saw the same shadow but at the end of the hallway I saw the blue wisp of my mom cowering as a man stood above her talking. He was tall and professional looking but I could get the feeling of an evil aura even from this shadow version, Vergil and I slowed down as we reached a few feet from where my mom was.

"You seem to think that as long as you put u your charms and spells that we wouldn't find you." The voice was gruff and deep but something about it registered as familiar in my head, "I had to admit though, it did take us awhile." He knelt over her body and grabbed her throat I stepped forward the blood rushing to my head and Vergil grabbed my arm and shook his head, "Poor Eva, the one who was tricked by a demon and gave birth to the atrocities known as the nephlim, the bastards of the Demon-kind" With each word it looked like he was choking her however when he finished he pushed her back down to the ground. Then the image seemed to shift as they disappeared and reappeared and the man was holding her by her throat, I couldn't stand by and watch this anymore I pulled against Vergil and looked at him confused why he wasn't doing anything.

"Dante, stop there's nothing that we can do." He held a firm grip on my arm, "These are memories that are held within this place, I think we are seeing what we didn't know before." I fought against his grip more and broke free and I ran and jumped at the man, I fell through the mist and turned and watched him as I knew word for word what he said next. I started to feel the tear build up as both Issei and Kiba caught up, they looked like they were about to say something but stopped as the mist spoke again.

"We searched the whole house and there wasn't anyone here but you." He tightened his hand around her throat and the sounds of her choking filled the air, "Well I guess that the mother hen is better than no prizes at all, after all a mom is where the home is." With that he raised his hand to her chest and thrust it inside, I screamed and reached out for her, Moms face went from one of panic to pure shock as she tried to catch her breath fighting back with what little strength that she had left, "I'll be sure to tell my brother your last goodbye." He tossed her to the side of him as he held her heart, s she hit the floor I heard a new voice, childlike gasp. I wanted to look but I couldn't take my eyes off her still face, I reached out to touch her face and unlike before it felt, no she felt so real.

"What have you done to my mother!" He walked towards me slowly almost as if he was relishing every step, then finally he knelt in front of me "Besides, that's not how you say hello to your uncle" After that I know every went black after he hit me again but afterwards I was never sure of what truly happened.

The room exploded with a white light as the room caved and what seemed like a thousand hands reached from above until those hands started to have bodies attached and then angels descended from heaven all flying in a circle around her, they seemed to whisper and were even hesitant to touch her body, "It seems as though the Angels were predicting the outcome here but didn't care to step in or intervene." The man stood and looked at the Angels, "Am I right in the assumption that you want the children dead as well?" He smiled a sickly smile that I wanted to smack off it of him, "I see that I must have your tongues tied then, so let me offer this one parley then. I will give you the heart if I have this Nephilim child." They didn't seem to falter on that, one of the angels flew down and seemed to rip the heart away. I can't say as I was shocked truthfully, at the fact that the Angels took the offer, after all I've heard that they look after their own more than even humans.

The man looked at his hand that seemed to almost look as if it was steaming from the angels touch, he then stood up tall took a deep breath and fixed the wrinkles he saw in his arm, "Well then, I guess that concludes business" He turned toward me and walked towards me with his hand outreached, almost shockingly his hand seemed to fall off leaving a bloody stump in its place, the look of shock on our faces must have mirrored because I was confused, then I saw the same angel that took her my moms heart float over to where we were and whisper to her as put the heart back in place and heal the wound. I heard the sounds of foot steps coming from the doorway and if I hadn't seen that Vergil today I would have sworn that he looked the exact same as the shadow minus the black overcoat and monocle the shadow was wearing with rebellion drawn.

"Mundus, leave this place at once." Sparda spoke in a low even tone, the man turned towards my father still holding his stump and teeth gritted, "I have committed no crime for the King of the Underworld to hunt me himself, I even handed in my resignation formally as well." He pointed Rebellion at the man named Mundus and I noticed that the blade looked different almost more sinister. Mundus apparently wasn't taking the hint and screamed charging at my dad, and just like that the memory stopped and I was left kneeling over nothing but a dusty old rug, I stood up and felt the familiar rage settle in my stomach, I locked eyes with Vergil and he gave me a look that mirrored the way that I felt.

"What was that?" Issei asked his brown eyes filled with confusion, "Who were those people?" Vergil took a deep breath and swallowed before he answered opened his mouth,

"You never told me that you saw her." He made eye contact with me and I saw something deep inside of his eyes, "You never even mentioned that you got a look at the same guy that killed our mom!" He spat walking towards and motioning where the memories had been, "Why didn't you at least tell me?!" He pushed me, "You never said anything about him or her. You said that you-"

"I didn't say anything Vergil because what would that have changed!" I pushed him back felt my own emotion rise, "Tell me what type of a difference that actually would have made?" I pushed him again and he glared back at me and gritted his teeth, "I tried to find you Vergil, I looked everywhere, but for some reason you were gone and nowhere to be found." I let my voice turn cold as I pointed at his chest.

Vergil shook his head and turned around and walked down the hallway brushing past Issei and Kiba, "I was getting someone who could do something, our father." He left and almost immediately I felt bad, I looked over to Issei and Kiba in hopes that maybe they had taken the hint that I wanted to be alone but they both seemed to be in a conversation of their own and completely ignoring me, I turned away from them and saw that there was a photo that was covered by a cloth, it looked almost the same as the in the opposite room but this one looked a couple of inches shorter. I walked over and pulled it down, inside of the frame stood a man of medium height and a thick head of silver hair slicked back. He was holding a very handsome looking Rebellion and had Yamato attached to his him. He wore a purple overcoat and a dark blue button up and a black pair of loafers on his feet.

"Dad." I looked underneath the photo and saw his named engraved on a gold plate like moms was, I reached at the stone slab underneath and pressed my palm against it, I felt a surge of energy and I closed my eyes, I took a deep breath all around me the world distorted as the sound of stygian flame knights erupted from the ground, I opened my eyes to see six of them there weapons at the ready as they lifted their heavy shields laughing that annoying laugh that they do, I felt the familiar weight of Rebellion on my back once again only this time it felt more heavy on the bladed end.

"Break them Dante" I heard a voice whisper, I reached on my back and lifted up a heavy axe and slammed the blade on the floor, Issei and Kiba looked about surprised as I felt, the ground where I slammed the blade split and a red light emitted from the split as it traveled and slammed against a knight, making an audible smashing of porcelain sound. Without wasting any time I picked the axe back up and swung at the nearest knight, "Holy Crap. This thing tears through them like butter.'" I thought as it cleaved the knights shield in two and threw it off balance, I then turned back on my heels and faced the knight opposite to me and picoted my blade spinning towards him, I put both hands on the hilt and swung as hard as I could and watched as my blade dislodged and spun rapidly towards the knight. Almost amusing when I saw the two of the knights jumped in front of the other and raised their shields, it was a really poor effort as the blade tore through all three of them. I was so absorbed in all of this that I hadn't noticed that the knight behind me had risen and swung at me with its cleaver.

Time slowed to a crawl as I turned and tried to raise the hilt of my axe to save my ass, I was almost thinking of what Vergil would say if he were here, probably something about the fact that I was to careless and I was lacking the finesse to finish off the job, the sound of metal hitting metal filled the air as Kiba had blocked the cleaver with a sword of his own, then almost as quickly Issei fired something and the knight exploded. I whistled, "That's what I call a explosive finish." I looked at the hilt of my Axe and wondered where the blade was, then looking around the room I checked to see where the other three knights went.

Kiba saw me looking and explained, "After you split the tide Issei and I were able to take care of two of them." I looked over at the two of them," There is no way that the two of them were able to take down two of them unless they have a lot of power." I thought sheathing my axe, The Limbo effect seemed to fade away as everything started to right itself and I could see just how decrypted this place truly become Kiba must have read my mind because he pointed to Issei, "He's our power buff." Issei smiled and was about to say something when a new voice rang though the room.

"Issei, Kiba I was wondering what took you two so long, had I thought about where I was sending you two I would have gone along from the start." The air shimmered and on the floor appeared a glowing red teleportation symbol, it was blinding but truthfully I have to say seeing who stepped out it was pretty worth it. I saw a tall lady in the same Kouh Academy female outfit that I saw this morning only she had a deep crimson in her hair that almost reminded me of my mothers, and a huge rack. Issei shot me a rather protective look as she walked towards them with the teleportation circle dissipating, I couldn't help but get the feeling that she was his girlfriend or something. Just to assure him that I wasn't in to her I raised my hands and giving my best uninterested look, last thing I wanted to deal with was some dude saying I was getting into his girlfriend or something.

"President." Kiba bowed and smiled a friendly smile, "The house was a bit bigger than expected, however we are almost finished with the stray demons." Issei fumbled his hello before getting a rather tight embrace and relaxing right on her chest, I felt a little twang of jealousy but I guess girls that wont murder me upon first glance wont be in my lifetime. "Madam President, did you happen to know that this is House of Sparda?" Kiba asked
