14. A brief update from the Author

I told myself I wouldn't write another one of these, but oh well. My plan was to just wait to post anything until I was ready to publish chapter 13, but it's been almost a year now since I published chapter 12, so I figured you guys deserve an update.

I don't want anyone to think I've abandoned this story. It's still a story I believe in and need to tell. It's still one I work on frequently and try to improve. I still love the characters and, to an extent, still love the fandom. I'll refrain from talking too much about myself for the sake of keeping the story clean of my life (I think an author's work should be viewed first in a vacuum before the author's biographical stuff comes up). That said, here's a little update for you guys who have been waiting so, so patiently for me. Chapter 13 has been completed since December of 2018, and chapter 14 is already about halfway done.

Now, your first question upon hearing that is probably 'well then why haven't you posted it?' Those of you who have recently reread this and/or read and remember my author's notes know a bit about me and my cousin. We're very close, to the point that I frequently refer to her as my sister. I love her more than anyone else I know, and we've both grown a lot from the point where I began writing this story way back when. And guys, life is hard. We both have a lot of baggage from our family, and she was hit even harder than I was. This past year since I moved out of my family's house has been...well, 'dramatic' is an understatement, but it'll work for now. It just feels sometimes like life keeps kicking, but hey, life isn't supposed to be easy. What kind of story has no conflict?

That said, my cousin has been dealing with a lot of her own issues, and not always in the best of ways. For a while she was very distant and dispassionate, and it hurt to watch and not be able to help. It made writing hard. I did it though, and am actually really proud of chapter 13, but this is where my life starts affecting my story. See, I always talk to my cousin, we share almost everything. As far as DFU is concerned, she helped me come up with the concept and was always a big motivation for me to write. She beta'd every chapter and offered plot adjustments and so much else. It's her story as much as mine.

As a result of our issues, she hadn't proofread chapter 13 by the time our communications got cut off the month before last (also a personal issue, but it's not something between the two of us, nor is it anything dangerous, don't worry). I'm not going to publish anything she hasn't looked through, but I will continue to work ahead. That way, maybe one day I'll actually be able to release chapters with some consistency.

So tl,dr: This story is not dead, nor abandoned. I appreciate all your patience and apologize for the long wait. I have a strong personal connection to Weiss's story and DFU, so to end it without resolution may as well end me, which just won't do. I can't tell you all when ch 13 will be published, but I hope you'll love it whenever it is.
