Jennifer Baratta - Thanks!

Guest - Personally I can't ever see Kara trying to kill Lena - that's more Alex's bag.

"Why aren't you in bed?" J'onn asked entering Alex's room.

"J'onn? What are you doing here?" Alex asked looking guilty.

"The only reason your mother is resting is because she thinks you are in bed." J'onn went on ignoring the question.

"My leg was cramping." Alex lied.

"And the truth?"

"I thought I could help with the investigation."

"You can help by resting." J'onn said.

"I have not left this room in days." Alex reminded him.

"But you have had six different agents smuggle in laptops." J'onn countered.

"Which you have taken back."

"You are deliberately missing the point. You are meant to be resting."

"Hamilton said to rest and keep my blood pressure down. Sitting here bored isn't help me relax, especially when there are psychopaths out there."

"So you need a hobby?" J'onn asked as Kara walked in.

"What's going on?" She asked before looking at J'onn. "Ohhhh, I recognise that face. That is the same expression Eliza wore every time she had an argument with Alex when we were growing up. So kind of her daily expression." She then turned to Alex and asked. "What have you done and why aren't you in bed?"

"I was stretching my legs." Alex said.

"And now you are getting back into bed." J'onn said staring Alex down. When Alex finally sat back down on the bed he turned to Kara and asked. "How are the kids?"

"Well Elle loves the present you gave her."

"What present?" He asked confused.

"Baxter and Jenkins. She loves them so much I don't think you are getting them back. And Wil slept straight through which is kind of a new experience."

"That's good. And I have more good news for you. We caught those responsible."

"You have?" Kara asked.

"You could have led with that." Alex pointed out before asking. "Who are they? Cadmus?"

"No."

"There's another alien hating group out there?" Kara asked miserably.

"No. This had nothing to do with you being Supergirl."

"Then why go after the kids?" Kara asked.

"Revenge." J'onn said. "On you, well Kara you."

"Who'd want revenge on Kara?" Alex asked confused.

"The Joldaskis." J'onn stated.

"Who?" Alex asked.

"They're a crime gang. I wrote an article on them a few weeks ago." Kara said.

"One that led to many arrests." J'onn said before noticing Kara's pained expression. "This isn't your fault."

"Yes it is. They were targeted because of me."

"The dismantling of the gang has saved countless lives." J'onn said.

"And nearly cost Elle and Wil theirs."

"They are safe because of you." J'onn pointed out. "The important thing is they are safe and their identity is still a secret."

"I guess." Kara said.

"The better news is you can go home whenever you are ready." J'onn smiled. Noticing Kara wasn't looking happy he said. "I thought you'd be more excited."

"Oh, I am." Kara said, clearly lying.

"Kara?" J'onn pressed.

"I just don't want to leave Adam."

"He is due for release tomorrow so wait until then."

"We'll do that." Kara said.

"Good. Well then I'll leave you to it." J'onn then turned to Alex and warned. "Do not let me catch you out of bed again."

"Yes boss." Alex said before watching J'onn leave. Once he was gone Alex looked at Kara and reiterated.

"This isn't your fault."

"Yes it is. It was my article. And I was so blind to the danger I was creating."

"We all were. But the danger is over and the kids are safe."

"You nearly died." Kara reminded Alex.

"But I didn't. We are all okay. But if you dwell on this they win." She let her words sink in before asking. "So what is really going on in your head? Why don't you want to go home?"

"What if it isn't safe?"

"J'onn will have ensured he got everyone." Alex pointed out.

"That's not what I mean. What if there are more people with grudges? What if Cadmus strikes again?"

"And what if they don't? Ignoring the fact that Winn has installed even better security systems at your place. Do you really want Elle and Wil to be held prisoner at the DEO?"

"No."

"Then focus on the positives. Like going home. I mean I know I can't wait to get out of here and going back home."

"You're not going home." Kara said.

"Yes I am I. Hamilton is almost ready to release me."

"That's not what I mean. You are coming back with us."

"Kara, I have my own place. And I can look after myself."

"I know you can. But I'd feel safer if you stayed with us." Kara said as the door opened and Baxter and Elle walked in.

"Ma'ams." He said avoiding eye contact.

"Elle? Is everything okay?" Kara asked moving over to Baxter and taking Elle off him.

"I'm fine." Elle said hugging her mother.

"We were playing basketball with her." Baxter said.

"And?" Alex prompted.

"Well she went up against Jefferson."

"What do you mean went up against Jefferson?" Alex asked noticing Baxter was still avoiding eye contact.

"They competed for the same ball and well Elle got knocked over."

"Are you hurt?" Kara asked looking at Elle.

"No. I'm fine. I mean I have superpowers." Elle reminded her. "Jefferson needed an ice pack though."

When Kara looked at Baxter he explained.

"He kind of bounced off her."

"Is he okay?" Kara asked concerned.

"Apart from his ego. Anyway we just thought you should know. So I brought her here while Jenkins is organising lunch." He added still avoiding looking at Alex.

"We'll discuss this later." Alex growled.

"Yes Ma'am." He replied backing out of the room.

"You sure you're okay?" Kara asked Elle.

"I'm fine. Except the game got cancelled. Can I play with them later?"

"We'll see." Kara replied.

"Can we go home yet?"

"Not yet." Kara said.

"But you can tomorrow." Alex pointed out.

"Are you coming home too?" Elle asked.

"No."

"Why not? Don't you like us?" Elle asked pouting.

"Of course I like you." Alex said.

"So you'll come stay with us until you are better?" Elle pressed.

"You are as bad as your mom." Alex complained as Elle continued to pout at her.

"Is that a yes?" Elle asked.

"It's a yes." Alex conceded as Eliza entered the room.

"What's a yes?" She asked.

"Alex is going to stay with us until she is better." Elle said happily as Hamilton walked in.

"Well if Alex doesn't learn to rest and stay in bed she won't be leaving here anytime soon." Hamilton warned.

"What?" Alex asked.

"The Director told me about your latest escape attempt, whilst asking Winn to set up a containment field." Hamilton pointed out.

"I was-" Alex started.

"Alexandra, you should know better." Eliza said exasperated.

"I think that is our signal to go get you some lunch." Kara said to Elle, ignoring Alex's pleading look.

-00-

"Here." Eliza said handing Kara a mug of hot chocolate that night as Kara sat on the DEO balcony.

"Thanks."

"Still blaming yourself?" Eliza guessed.

"Well yeah. It's my fault." Kara said before turning to look at Eliza and asking. "Why did you do it?"

"Do what?" Eliza asked confused.

"Take me in. It put Alex in so much danger. It cost you Jeremiah."

"If you asked Alex if she would have preferred you never to have come in her life or to have you as a sister, what do you think she'll say?" Not giving Kara time to answer she added. "Life is full of dangers. You can't protect your children from them. All you can do is give them love and support." Eliza said as footsteps approached.

"Ma'am." Baxter called. Turning Kara saw the Agent standing next to Elle. "She was rather insistent about being brought to you." He explained.

"What's wrong?" Kara asked.

"I couldn't sleep." Elle said walking towards her mother who gathered her into her arms.

"I'll leave you to it." Eliza said. "Remember what I said." She added before kissing Elle and Kara on their heads. Once she and Baxter had gone Kara asked.

"So why can't you sleep?"

"Not tired."

"And the truth?"

"That is the truth." Elle lied.

"Why are you lying?" Kara asked.

"Because I don't want to live on Argo." Elle said baffling Kara.

"Why do you think you are going to live on Argo?"

"You think we are in danger. You think Argo is safer. And if I tell you I had a nightmare you'll want to take us to live on Argo."

"Argo would be safer." Kara pointed out.

"But it's not home." Elle pointed out. "And Grandma Cat wouldn't be there. Neither would Grandma Eliza or Alex or Lena or Winn or-"

"I get the picture." Kara said. "No one is going to move to Argo."

"You promise?" Elle asked.

"Right now there are no plans to visit Argo, let alone live there." Kara said. "So what was your nightmare about?"

"We were back in the park being chased." Elle said.

"You're safe now." Kara said holding her tightly.

"I know." Elle said before asking. "Are we really going home tomorrow?"

"Do you want to?"

"Yes." Elle replied sounding happier.

"Then the good news is we are going home." Kara said kissing her head.
