The elders would always tell us the same story. How our world used to be very different than it is now, but the wrath of the gods changed it entirely.
According to the legend, we all lived in very different places across various lands. Some of us lived in jungles, some lived in plains, some lived in snow, and some lived in deserts. We all lived with the land and made it apart of us since we would return to it one day. We built strong communities and fought with valor to defend our homes.
Then, out of nowhere, everything changed. The skies darkened and roared while striking the land below with strings of light. The land shook violently before tearing open and bleeding streams of lava. Some pieces of land rose higher than mountains, while others were completely devoured by the ocean. Everyone felt so powerless in the midst of that event. Countless people lost their lives, and several powerful empires ceased to exist.
Finally, everything calmed down as quickly as it had begun. Different groups of people found themselves in an entirely new landscape, scared, hungry, and in pain. Centuries of unceasing conflict soon followed between the groups. A sea of blood soaked the lands that we now call home. They say that those conflicts began out of ignorance, fear, and utter desperation.
However, after seeing the amount of destruction they brought upon themselves, the people placed down their weapons, and instead dedicated the following centuries toward unification in order to ensure a land full of peace for future generations.
This newfound peace led to an advancement in science, art, language, and overall unity. It also led to a mass blending of every culture from throughout the land into one. Although, many distinct aspects were kept while others were lost in time.
Thankfully, we are still in that era of peace, according to everyone. Although, I sometimes have nightmares that this era of peace will be disrupted by a force the likes of which we have never witnessed. And while I can't help but feel a bit of concern, I continue to hope that they are simply that, nightmares. Unfortunately, only time can tell.
