A couple days had passed since the conversation with Naruto. During those days, Hinata realized that she was still feeling something for Sasuke. To hear that Sasuke was still with Sakura was slightly heartbreaking. Did their relationship mean nothing to him? Does that mean he was in love with Sakura? All these thoughts had been plaguing her. She had never stopped loving him no matter how hard things got between them. As she was deep in thought, she felt a warm tear run down her face. "No" she whispered, her voice cracking faintly. Hinata tried to stop before the tears became worse but as she wiped them away, more came. She thought she was moving forward in forgetting her feelings but it seems that she hasn't moved at all. The only thing she had truly done was cover up her overwhelming sadness...
Naruto managed to get himself back together after the betrayal from Sakura. This wasn't the first time she had chosen someone over him. Being love's fool definitely came with some consequences but this is a girl he knew was definitely for him. Something inside just refused to give her up no matter what she did to him. He knew Sakura was a better person than she portrayed herself to be and that was what he fell in love with.
Flashback
The day after Sasuke left...
Naruto had realized that he hadn't seen Sakura since Sasuke had left. He looked all over for her and right when he was about to give up he saw her at the gates of village. She was sitting on the grass with her head down, holding her hands tightly together. Her grip was so tight that her knuckles were turning white. As he got closer to her, he heard her muttering something but he couldn't quite make it out.
"Sakura?" he called as he moved close enough to crouch down next to her.
"Please come back..please! I can be good for you. Oh kami please come back, I need you."
A pain went through him as he heard her words. He couldn't help but pull her into his embrace. "Don't worry Sakura, I promise I'm going to fix everything. I'm going make sure you smile again." As he continued to hold her he felt her start to really break down in his arms. It was the most painful thing for him to to witness.
Flashforward
Naruto sat quietly on his couch, thinking deeply about that moment from the past. "I will make you happy."
It was about three o clock before Hinata managed to pull herself out of the house. She figured staying inside wasn't going to help the way she was feeling and food may be the cure to help her relax a bit. Her foot was about to hit the last step when she heard someone call her name. When she looked up, she was surprised to see that her father had been waiting for her across the street. She tried her best to look like it didn't bother her that he was here but her face would most likely give her away. He walked over to the driver and whispered something to them which caused them to take off back to the direction of the manor. "Father..." she greeted as he walked over to her.
"Good Afternoon my daughter" he responded, with a small smile.
Hinata squinted a little at this smile wondering what he was up to. It must have been hard for such a cold person to such an expression. "What can I do for you today?"
"Well I was thinking that we should eat together. Our conversation did not go... very well last time and so I think breaking bread would be a nice way to talk" he explained, hoping that she would accept his invitation.
The younger Hyuga looked away for a moment as she thought about whether she should accept or not. Today was not a day that she felt like being scolded about her past decisions. "Look...fath-"
"Please" Hiashi interrupted.
"Ok fine, where are we eating?" she asked casually as she looked in different directions.
Hiashi looked around himself, but he was not too familiar with the restaurants in the area. He had a personal cook to take of his food needs and in order to avoid answering, he responded, "Anywhere you would like to go."
Hinata thought for a moment before deciding to take her father to the place Sai had shown her in the forest. There was silence between them as they walked but it wasn't as painful as the other times. It was frightening to admit that it was actually quite comfortable. He seemed to be enjoying the little walk. His eyes would drift off to beautiful forestry all around him and Hinata could tell that he was quite fond of it. After a minute they arrived at the restaurant. It was still quiet like it had been the first time she and Sai went and she was grateful. They were seated promptly and handed some menus for their viewing pleasure.
"To be honest, I never knew that such a place existed in our bustling village" her father said as he continued looking around the menu. "Seems to have lovely food choices as well."
"Yeah, it's starting to become my favorite" she responded. "It's so quiet that a person can come and actually enjoy their food."
Hiashi nodded silently before placing the menu down. He looked to Hinata with most concerned face he could sincerely put on. "I believe I should apologize for the way I've acted."
"You really don't have to father."
"Yes I do. I'm not proud to have two daughters who don't think very highly of me..." he explained. "I was tough because you all were girls and I wanted no one to treat you differently because of that. I'm not blind Hinata, you are a very skilled fighter and I was just too stupid to realize it."
Hinata sat quietly as she listened to her father, feeling proud that he was actually admitting that she was skilled. As a child that was the kind of praise she was desperate for from him. This was another thing that she pushed to the back of her brain in order not to deal with it. Hearing him commend her like this almost brought a tear to her eye. "Thank you."
By this time, the waitress had come back to take their orders. Each ordered completely different things. Her father was more concerned with the vegetable dishes while all she wanted was meat. Once the waitress left Hiashi continued, "I must say again that I definitely think Sasuke was a bad choice in men but...it was the happiest I had ever seen you."
When her father continued, Hinata tried her best not roll her eyes when Sasuke was brought up but to hear how he had noticed her happiness with the Uchiha, warmed her heart.
"Your mother was my happiness" he said with his voice threatening to crack, but he quickly fixed that with some water. "Losing her was the hardest thing I've ever had to deal with, which is why I became hardened to everything. It was not the best way to do things but it was the only way I could think of coping at the time."
"Pardon me father, but why are you saying these things?" she asked curiously, not sure if she wanted to reconnect with him so suddenly. It cannot be forgotten that he had done a lot of damage.
"I'm saying this because I want to let you know that I realize my mistakes now. I want to restore what I have broken. You both are very precious to me even though I have failed to show you this. Please allow me to try again while I still can."
Hinata quickly took a sip of her water and she had to really wonder if he was dying. Why did he want to fix things all of sudden? It just didn't make sense but she could use all the positive energy she could get right now. For today she would entertain this idea of a nice father. "I look forward to this."
"Perfect" Hiashi said with a real bright smile. He knew that if they reconnected he would be fulfilling his wife's wishes and it could also benefit him in the way of Hinata moving back to the manor. He could already see her as a great leader over the Hyugas. It was the perfect venture.
Sasuke was heading into the hospital when he noticed Sakura standing outside. She was looking a little disturbed but that was none of his business at this point. Their little conversation was enough to let her know how much he truly didn't care about her feelings. He had almost made it to the door before she started frantically running in his direction.
"Wait!" she yelled as she tried to catch up with him.
Of course he kept walking pretending he didn't hear her. In fact, he actually managed to slip away into the building. Sakura came busting through the doors and grabbed his arm. His jaw clenched hard from the way her touch infuriated him. "That's not a good idea" he growled.
"I really need to talk to you Sasuke" she pleaded, still holding onto his arm despite the threat. "It's important."
Sasuke sighed softly wondering if he should even give her the time of day but he decided against the anger. He removed his arm from her grasp and moved to a corner close by, "What is it?"
The girl followed after him, still looking quite distressed as she held herself. "Umm..."she said looking down at the floor.
"Sakura get to the point, I really don't have time for this."
"I'm pregnant"she finally said, keeping her eyes down.
Sasuke felt as though everything had gotten quiet around him. He couldn't comprehend what she just said. "Is it mine?" he asked, for once genuinely concerned.
"What kind of question is that?!" she whispered angrily. "You're the person I was sleeping with for the past couple of months.
"Are you sure you're even pregnant Sakura?" he pushed. Sasuke had to turn away from her for a moment because he already knew how bad this was going to be. It could potentially finish already fragile relationships with Naruto and Hinata. "Oh god" he said feeling as though he was going to pass out.
"I'm a doctor Sasuke, of course I'm sure" she explained, her voice cracking a little bit.
"Oh fuck."
