22. Ask students who exactly in the school is considered the most intelligent of their age 23. Try implying that any other student is not quite as bright having grown up in the Muggle world 24. Or speak to them more slowly because of it
The cafeteria was spacious, there were tons of tables everywhere with no distinct way to distinguish who was meant to sit where. Given Erica was already taking the lead, I felt quite comfortable simply following. The two other girls were already in discussion about something, but they stood right at attention when they saw Libby and Erica drawing near. Clearly, Libby had already made something of an impression on her classmates. It's not as if she got the whole attention of the student body, however, as for the most part everyone else ignores her presence.
For a moment Libby lets herself ponder how odd it was, that everyone sort of just… mixed together. Like it was the time she went to the park with her brother and his friend. The only really way to categorize people was by an estimation of their age. It always seemed to Elizabeth that an important part of going to school was connecting with other students based on a shared foundation, like the house system of Hogwarts. As she pondered this, it seemed she lost track of what was going on around her.
"…to do with you. They all think you're mad!" One of them laughed. Elizabeth forgot their names already, except for Erica's.
"Well, are you mad, Libby?" The other girl, freckle-faced with blonde hair, implored.
"Oh, no, no." It seemed to Libby that, between Miss Cartwright and everyone else looking at her as if she were mad, that, just as she figured, the muggles were a bit dense. Not their fault, obviously, there was only so much they could know. While the teachers were, perhaps, intelligent people, her fellow peers were just as clearly a bit slow on the uptake. After all, they all reacted far more immaturely to her questions, without any sort of speculative investigation as to why she would say or ask such things. So, Elizabeth deduced, they were definitely dim, and needed to be handled with care.
"Who… is… considered… the… most… intelligent… of… their… age?"
It seemed to Elizabeth a straightforward enough question, there had to be at least one student in attendance everyone knew performed above the rest. Perhaps it would be to her advantage to find and befriend him or her, it would be easier to communicate with someone on her level.
All three girls looked at each other, then at Elizabeth. Then, they laughed.
"Blimey you're a strange one! A good laugh."
Elizabeth sighed. This was going to take more getting used to than she thought.
A/N:
Long time since an update… basically the case for all my stories. Anyways, I've decided not to go in order of the list because it would inevitably interrupt the natural flow of conversation/events, when I originally made the list I hadn't thought of it in a sort of 'day in the life' piece or in a chronological sense, just wrote it as ideas came to me. Anyways, hope you enjoy, if you did feel free to leave a review! And thanks to everyone who's left a review!
