Chapter XVII
The world was far as a failure voice rang through her ears … was that? …
"Zelda" the person was almost in tears, Zelda could tell.
Slowly she started to open her eyes to see a blond blur. As her vision started to clear and focus she, was met by the sight of her older brother crying over her.
"Link?" she managed to say
"Zelda?" Link looked at her worriedly
"Where's Marth?" she asked
"Ike is taking care of him, don't worry" Link hugged her tightly
"What! No Marth!" she called for him and turned her head to the door where the sounds of battle rang out.
An arrow flew past Marusu as he jumped into the air and clashed blades with Ike. Ike pulled his sword close and delivered a punch to Marusu's stomach sending the Masked swordsman stumbling back. As Marusu stepped back, Ike took his chance and charged at the demon. Marusu regained his senses much faster then Ike had hoped, however it was too late for Ike to stop his momentum. Ike thrust his sword forward. As Marusu leaped once more, this time he landed on the flat of Ike's broadsword, with the added weight Ike's strength threatened to give out on him. Standing strong but unable to do anything Marusu raised his sword, as so it would bash in the teenage detective's skull. Then an arrow flew into Marusu's line of sight threating to strike him. He leaped off Ike's sword. Ike gave a look of thanks to his red-haired companion that just saved his life.
"Good, now that she is safe we got to go help," Pit said putting a hand on his friend's shoulder.
"But-" Link started.
"Go save Marth," Zelda said in an almost demanding tone of voice.
Link stood up not wanting to go against his little sister's order, he pulled out the blade of a faithful heart from the sheath that rested on his back and absentmindedly pulled out the shield as well. He looked at Pit in curiosity.
"Can you buy me some time I'll try to help but I need him completely still or at least in one spot?" Pit said looking determined then embraced.
"I'll try" Link nodded then set off.
Marusu slashed at Ike that blocked his attempt, Marusu jumped back and countered as Link tried to slash him by surprise.
Ike gave Link an approving nod and they charged at Marusu. Link and Ike worked together to try to take down Marusu … to no avail.
Hours later
"Damn it, he's too good," Link panted after having fought the demon that took the form of his childhood friend.
"This is getting us nowhere, we need to keep him still so that Pit can start that damn spell," Ike said through clenched teeth.
"Marth!" Zelda's voice rang out caching everyone off guard, except for Marusu that was about to slash Link from behind when a ball of light slammed into Marusu's chest sending him stumbling backward.
"Um guys, Marusu is still there!" Pit said putting extra enfaces on the 'there'.
"Oh thanks, Pit," Link said as they all returned to reality.
"Marth, I know you're in there, I know you can fight him, please Marth, fight him" Zelda called from the doorway of the warehouse
As all three swordsmen clashed blades locked in an intense battle, making it evident that Marusu has the upper hand. Marusu all of a sudden placed his unneeded hand to his chest as he fell to one knee and began to growl.
"You little wench you set him free," he said through clenched teeth.
Then a figure faded from his back, a bright light engulfed the pear and parceled the stormy black sky. When the light died down behind Marusu stood a young man in a purl white tunic, with silver-blue lasing, white tights, with knee-high white leather boots, a silver chest plate with shoulder armor of the same metallic color covered his upper body, a golden tiara adorned his silky blue hair, as silvery white wings rested on his back. His Cerulean eyes looked everything over, when his gaze fell upon Zelda, a warm smile crossed his face.
"Marth?" Zelda asked unsure of what she was seeing.
"Hey," he said in his usual gentle voice a small smile in his face
Marth ran to Zelda's side and embraced her.
"Marth" She smiled with almost relief in her quivering voice
"It turns out I was the reincarnation of an angle, a young man named Limm, that's why Marusu chose me out of all the other people because he assumed I was the young angel that imprisoned him so many years back" he explained
Marusu slowly arose from the ground and glared. Marusu raised his sword and aimed it at Marth and his friends. Marth released Zelda and stood in front of her protectively.
"You're not laying so much as a finger on her, or them" He then placed his palms together in praying like motion.
As he pulled them apart a bright flash of light appeared and then suddenly Marth held in his hand a sword sillier to Ankoku, but then again it was somehow different.
A sword with a golden hilt, a ruby o the purest shade of red rested in the center of the hilt, two golden hornlike spikes pointed down away from the Marth's hand, and a three-foot-long blade of the purest silver. He raised the sword and his wings turned into a silvery white cape. Marth turned to his two best friends and two new comrades and smiled sheepishly
"Well are we going to take him out or you idiots just going to stand there?" his four friends grinned and nodded.
Roy lifted his bow and let an arrow fly, Link followed after it and Ike after them, Marth was going to follow but a hand grabbed him before he had the chance. He stopped and faced Zelda in confusion as to why she had stopped him.
"Marth?" she said her voice low and her head down.
"Zelda? What's wrong?" he placed his left hand under her chin and lifted her face and wiped the tears from her eyes
"I'm scared, I mean what are you going to do? I thought you didn't know how to fight" she said worriedly.
"Fight no, but I know how to fence. Father Knight taught me a thing or two, plus Limm will guide me" he smiled and kissed her softly
"Fine, but he's powerful and fast what makes you think that if you're here that it'll make any difference?" Zelda said tears welling in her eyes.
"You have no faith in me do you?" Marth pouted playfully.
"it's not-" Zelda started before Marth cut her off.
"I have a plan don't worry your pretty little head about it" he smiled and pulled her into a deep passionate kiss.
"Bye," he gave her a warm smile and ran off into the fight.
Link slashed at Marusu, who sidestepped and made an attempt to slash Ike. Ike managed to roll out but was at sword point in the next moment. Marusu raised his sword but Marth was in between the masked man and the young detective in a blink of an eye.
Link charged at Marusu and failed as Marth's doppelganger sidestepped his attack again managed to kick the left-handed swordsman sending him flying backward, he crashed into a wall of light Pit had made to keep Marusu from escaping.
"Let us settle this hand to hand Little Wolf" Marusu smirked as he created a barrier of dark magic within Pit's barrier of light.
"What the hell" Link said in confusion trying to stand.
"Apparently Marusu wants to fight Marth one on one, I guess to get him back under his power again," Ike said getting up
"Pit can't you break it?" Link asked the other police officer.
"I can, but it'll take some time," Pit said a little worried.
"I hope Marth can last that long" Link said worriedly.
"He better," Roy said hiding his worry under a mask of annoyance.
Marth raised his sword and charged forward. Marusu sidestepped and lashed out. Marth raised his sword and countered managing to land a hit on Marusu. The masked man stumbled back but regained his senses before Marth could get close. Marth swung his sword in an upward slice, then down, then in both left and right. His steps even, balanced, rhythmic; it looked almost as if he was dancing. Up, down, up, spin, up, down, stab, left, up, spin, kick, spin, his movements whereas prosiest and deadly as they were graceful and beautiful. The silver cape twirled and rippled like waves of the ocean. Marusu and Marth began to look as if neither were going to win, mirror reflectors of each other.
"Enough we end this now" Marth called out as he pointed his blade to the heavens, and dashed forward at almost an impossible speed.
Marth lashed out one more and struck Marusu with incredible force and precision that can only be described as a Critical Hit.
Marth stood over his doppelganger and helped him to his feet. By grabbing both his wrists and holding him in place, in his weakened state Marusu was going nowhere.
At that moment the barrier around the two bluenets was broken. And Marth's friends rushed into his side.
"Marth, you Okay?" Link asked as he was the first to run up.
"Yeah I'll be fine but I can't hold him for long so …" Marth turned his gaze to Pit.
"Start the seal I got him to stand still" he ordered.
"But-" Pit began.
"Just do it," Marth said a firm tone in his voice, a look of undying determination in his eyes.
Pit bit his lip and raised his arms and started to move them in a strange pattern. Suddenly a spell circle appeared at Marth's feet with two smaller circles at both the left and right.
"Link, Ike you guys need to stab the swords into the smaller circles, Roy fire a silver arrow when ready" Pit ordered
"Marth we got him you can let go before-" Link began
"No I can't nor will I" Marth interrupted
"What?" Link said in confusion
"Lowell! You better get your ass out of that damn circle! Or GOD HELP ME IM GOING TO!-" Roy started
"No Roy I have to do this" Marth interrupted unintimidated by his best friends threats
"Marth we got him, it's over" Link started
"No … it's not, don't you see … if I let go we're not going to end him we're just going to put him to sleep only for this to happen again -is that what you want"
"And if I sacrifice myself he'll be taken to hell with me, this is what I was born to do … can't you see" Marth began a tear welling in his eyes
"I freed him so it's my responsibility to send him to straight back to hell even if I have to go with him to do it," Marth said lowering his head so that his bangs overshadowed his eyes
"But Marth-" Zelda said as she approached her boyfriend.
"No Zelda it has to be done," Marth said as he looked at her.
He closed his eyes and opened them slowly his cape started to rise and transforming into a silver wings
Ike raised his sword and plunged it into the spell cercal.
"Ike doesn't encourage him you asshole" Link barked
Ike said nothing and looking at no one.
"Link this is my choice and I'm going to do this" Marth looked Link in the eyes to let him know he wasn't joking
"I'm not going to do this Marth your practically my brother," Link said sheathing his sword and turning his back to Marth.
"Link think of Samus, you must do this" Marth began
A tear fell from Link's eye as he quickly turned around and unsheathed his sword
"Shut up I'm not going through with this" Link said as tears welled up in his eyes.
"Link please I'm asking you to do this not as an angel not as Marusu but as Marth" he lowered his head.
"Link please" he whispered.
"Just shut up Marth … just shut up" Link whispered as he plunged the sword into the other small cereal. He fell to his knees using the sword as a support tears flowing from his eyes.
Light began to emerge from the seal as Marth winced in pain, Zelda ran up to him and hugged him tightly baring her face in his fluffy wings.
"Marth please don't leave … please," she said almost crying.
"Zelda let go … Please … let go " he said calmly yet sorrowfully.
"But Marth-" she began.
"Shhhhhh … Zelda, do you remember when we first started dating you asked me what my last wish would be?" Marth asked her
"Yes but you never answered me," she said holding him.
"Come closer and I'll tell you," he said with a sad little smile.
She came close and he whispered into her ear. Tears started to form and flow out of her eyes and she hugged him.
She nodded and released her grip but she kissed him deeply and sweetly as a tear fell from the corner of his eye, when he opened his eyes he smiled for real this time but his smile couldn't hold back his tears.
"Roy the arrow," Marth said
"No," Roy said looking down.
"Roy it's me or the whole world," Marth said sternly.
Roy pulled back the string and aimed it straight but his bangs hid his face. He let go, releasing the arrow.
A light erupted and when it died down a statue was left behind
A statue of a young boy with angel wings carved out in white marble, a silver tiara in his straight almost perfect hair, a sword with a blade of the utmost purest silver, a hilt of pure gold, a beautiful ruby as red as a crimson flame shined in the very center of the hilt. He held it close to his chest as a king would. His eyes closed and with the sweetest but saddest smile on his peaceful face.
Roy fell to his knees, clutching the ground for support, he clenched his teeth, and let the tears fall. He punched the ground in anger but it wasn't at anyone but at fate at destiny at the cruel sick game she played. Link did the same and Pit rubbed both there backs unable to speak for he was a lost for words. Zelda ran to Ike and was ready to hurt him he lied to her he said she would get to see him but he didn't say anything about seeing him die. But when she looked up at his face to punch him when she saw the tears fall. Why was he crying he know Marth as much as Pit did so why was he crying?
"What's wrong with you?" she said almost irritated.
He lowered his head and said
"I know he was going to do this I tried to do stop him but I … I failed" he spoke quietly and said nothing more as he let the tears fall.
Zelda looked at all of the lost souls and then at the one she cherished most aside from her own blood. She looked up at the statue and raised a hand to his face. She ran her hand along the smooth surface, then the statue became softer as if it was made of sand.
Then slowly the wind blew it away. She watched as the silver bust flew off into the ocean and fell to her knees and cried
