The kiss began lazily enough. One moment Luna and Adrien were leaning back on the picnic blanket laughing, and then the next moment after their eyes met and the laughter died, their lips collided. As first kisses went, it was a damn good one. Her mouth was as soft and sweet as Adrien had always dared to imagine, tasting a little like the (homemade, thank you very much) apple pie they'd been sharing. Their kisses were slow and leisurely, if not the most skilled, but none of that mattered. What did matter was that now, finally, Adrien was locking lips with the girl he'd been crushing after since she'd first strolled back from fashion school.

"Woo-wee, Luna! I guess you got past rancher-smell, huh?"

Unsympathetic irritation surged through Adrien as he and his girlfriend broke apart, and he could tell by her pout that Luna felt the same. They turned their heads to follow the source of the interruption, and Adrien felt a ripple of shock go down his spine as Maya and Chase approached, the latter carrying a picnic basket.

"Go away, Maya," Luna snapped at the girl. "No one likes a voyeur." Adrien blushed and hoped the evening's light masked the redness. Totally not cool to get so flustered in front of his girlfriend like that.

"Little warm out here, Adrien?" Chase smirked, clearly noticing.

"What are you even doing here?" Adrien replied, rubbing the back of his neck in annoyance. "I thought it was considered polite to not set up camp right near another couple."

"We're not a couple," Chase grimaced just as Maya squeaked, "We thought we'd do a double-date!" Chase shot a look at the waitress, who to her credit didn't wilt an inch. Adrien felt his respect for her go up a notch; he too had been on the receiving end of one of Chase's withering looks, and he was not proud to say he hadn't held up well on most occasions.

"Well, we thought we'd do a single-date, so maybe you two should shoo," Luna sniffed. Adrien wrapped his arm around her and they both turned their attention back to the moon, like they were supposed to be doing. From behind them, Adrien could hear the fwumph of a blanket being opened and spread out.

"Maybe if we ignore them, they'll go away," Adrien murmured in Luna's ear.

"I hear you, idiot."

Whatever. If Chase, who Adrien could currently hear unpacking the basket, wanted to be mysterious and annoying and not even tell his bro when and whom he was dating, so be it. As far as Adrien had been aware, Chase made no secret of his disdain for Maya and her affections for him. He hadn't pegged Chase as the type of guy to play a woman's heart, so if he wasn't just humoring her, why hadn't he said anything? Adrien, after all, had basically spent most of his time mooning after Luna; it was Chase's duty to do the same. Well, with Maya, of course. Not with Luna. No way with Luna.

Perhaps it would be better to try and enjoy the Moon Festival for its sake alone, but Goddess, did the pair of redheads have to be so noisy?

"Stop stuffing your face. You're making me nauseated."

"I can't help it!" More chomping noises. "It's your fault for making such yummy food." Chomp, chomp.

Adrien's arm tightened around Luna's back in a soothing fashion as he felt her stiffen. He began tracing circles on her shoulder with his fingers, hoping his radiant sexiness would be enough to distract her.

"Where's the pie, Chase?"

"Are you done already? That's disgusting."

"Don't be so mean! You said there'd be apple pie!"

"I must've forgot."

"Chase—"

And Luna violently whirled around in Adrien's arms. Well, he was pretty sure even the sexiest guy in the world wouldn't be able to calm Luna's explosive temper. "Will you both just shut up for two minutes and enjoy the festival?" she snarled. Her eyes were practically blue fires in her round face, slightly pink due to anger. Now did not seem to be the time to tell Luna she looked adorable, but Adrien couldn't help but think it as he admired the way she tore into his friends.

Luna continued to stunned silence, "Even if you're going to be loud and obnoxious, you could at least have a little bit of dignity. Slow down while you're eating—you'll end up choking and we all know you're only eating that fast to show Chase how much you loooove his cooking."

Chase smirked, but Luna whirled on him next.

"And you! You're even worse. Pretending you hate your crush got old in elementary school. I heard you ask Maya to the festival; you're not fooling anyone. You might as well stop trying to make her feel bad and hope instead she doesn't find someone less abusive."

"I'm not abusive," Chase muttered defensively, but whatever he was about to say next was cut off by Luna throwing a large piece of pie crust at him.

"Be quiet! And also be quiet. The rest of us are trying to have a good time."

"Yeah, Luna," Julius called some yards away with Candace. Luna turned pinker, either with embarrassment or simple annoyance with her sister's date, and turned back into Adrien's embrace.

Adrien, for his part, was awed, and by the much-quieter sounds emanating from Maya and Chase's direction, they were pretty cowed, too. Maybe Luna had been a tad harsh—after all, not many people came to her for lessons on being mature, and for good reason—but they had been pretty annoying, and Adrien sure wasn't going to brave insulting Chase like that. Luna's courage was one of the many things he liked about her, he thought fondly, and pressed a kiss against where her ponytail connected with her head. To his surprise, he felt tiny hands clutching his shirt to pull him down, and he complied, their lips meeting in a slightly-less-lazy second kiss.

He could hear Maya giggling—quietly—behind him, but he didn't really care. The moon was pretty and all, but the redhead in his arms was prettier, and he was pretty sure the full moon didn't sparkle as well as Luna's eyes did.
