MY LAST NAME

Chapter 18

Harry stared at Draco, his eyes brimmed with tears that burnt. He didn't want to hear what he had to say, but yet, he couldn't stop listening. Harry was broken, and he genuinely believed that he would never be fixed.

He gulped before walking away slowly, letting Draco's hand fall back to his side. Why was he here? Why was he trying to help him? None of it made sense, nothing made sense anymore.

"I don't need your help, Malfoy." Harry walked to his desk and sat down. Too much was streaming through his mind; he needed time to think. He just needed time.

"That's okay, but I do need yours. I just want you to be able to shake my hand, and let go of the past" but before Draco could say anymore Harry shot him a look of complete disgust.

"Let go of the past?" Harry repeated. "Are you fucking insane?!" He stood back up again, infuriated by Draco's recklessness.

"I want us to be civil, Potter, for gods sake we only have one life, we need to enjoy the rest of our already fucked up one." He stood up to Harry, not scared anymore.

Harry was flabbergasted, speechless, he couldn't find the right words because at the back of his mind, Draco was doing the right thing. He was right.

And damn, he wanted to do anything but admit that.

Harry's eyes flicked from one side of the room to the other at an uncomfortably accelerated pace. He bit his thumb nail in a nervous way, his mind overwhelmed, his eyes heavy.

"Look, I'm not waiting around all day, I'm not here to watch the grass grow, are we civil or not?" Draco shifted his weight, starting to get restless and annoyed with Harry's childish, wild animal like behaviour.

Harry took a moment. In his mind, everything was broken. It was like there were thousands upon thousands of mirrors smashed to a pulp, shards stabbing his thoughts, his feelings, scarring his emotions, like they didn't ever want him to be happy. How could Draco be stood in his house right now wanting to hold his hand out, and shake away a tiny fraction of those shards. A tiny fraction of peace would return. Closure was what he needed. But even if he did, there was still thousands of shards left to be removed.

But it was a start.

"Fine." Harry's hand dropped to his side in defeat.

"I'm not running anymore." He walked closer to Draco. "But if I shake your hand, you will never step foot in this city, let alone my house, ever again, understood?" His voice was deep, threatening.

"I wasn't counting on it." Draco held his hand out, his fingertips reaching for Harry's approval, however much it seemed like he hated him. Harry returned the favour and locked hands with his now acquaintance.

"Now, leave." Harry walked to the door and opened it, beckoning Draco to leave. His foot tapped nervously as he waited. Draco walked over stepping over a pile of books that had been scattered around on the laminate flooring. He stopped momentarily at the door as he held his heart heavy.

"My offer for help is still there, Potter. I sympathise with you a lot, and I know how it feels to feel so dark and alone inside."

"You don't know anything."

A moment if silence passed as Draco bobbed his head in polite acknowledgement, and he walked out of the room.

In the hallway, three children stood. Two boys and one girl. Both boys were tall, but one older than the other, both wore jeans and a smart t shirt. Thick brown hair covered their eyes slightly as they stood next to a young girl with thick, hot auburn hair rolling down her back almost to her waist. She wore a light green dress with striped leggings.

Draco looked for a moment, each child stood in a uniform line, all staring at the man who was a stranger to them.

Ginny walked up behind him as a huff of laughter came from her lips. Draco looked down at the petite woman.

"There's James, Albus, and Lily." She shifted her weight with the fourth child staring up at Draco latched onto her hip, it's eyes full of interest and wonder.

"And this is Hermione." She looked at the small child, her eyes teaming with love. Draco gasped slightly as he looked down at baby Hermione, full of happiness and content. His eyes brimmed slightly as he all of a sudden became overwhelmed with emotion.

"You have a beautiful family, ." Draco smiled, and without another word, he walked through a gap the three children made, and out of the house, not looking back once.

Hermione paced in her flat. The cat was meowing profusely and the rain battered on the windows like people were trying to climb into her home. She hadn't heard a word from Draco and wondered if he was alright. She was panicking, and she felt nauseous. Her temperature fluctuated like she had never known it before. She felt annoyed, annoyed with the cat, annoyed with the rain, and annoyed with Draco.

Before anything else could annoy her, Draco walked into the flat, soaking wet through. His hair fell flat on his head, as his coat dripped at the corners like running taps.

Hermione's eyes widened as she stared in horror.

"Take off your coat! The rug is getting drenched!" She pushed him off the rug and onto the wooden flooring. Draco rolled his eyes and removed his coat. Hanging it on the back of the door.

"Hello to you too" he said in a huff of laughter. Hermione's face didn't change. She stared upon her boyfriend who was stood dripping wet through, and now laughing?

"What happened with you today? You haven't been in touch once Draco." She was disappointed as she walked into the kitchen.

"I've been a little caught up with your friend potter trying to kill me." He walked through following her as the words rolled off his tongue. He soon regretted even mentioning the whole episode.

She spun around quicker than he'd ever seen before.

"He what?!"

He laughed and walked over to her, placing his hands gently on her arms, holding them at her sides.

"Relax, everything's fine. I successfully shook his hand." His kissed her forehead.

"Was that after or before he tried to kill you?" She shrugged him off and walked away from him.

"After. And, what is the matter with you? I don't like this wound up, up tight girlfriend business." He frowned slightly and walked to her.

"I'm here, I'm safe, and I'll tell you all about it over a cup of tea?" He held her in his arms, he felt her soften as she let out a long, delicate sigh and answered.

"Only if you make it."
