Compromise is good in any relationship...
"Charles." Molly asked innocently one evening as they drove back home to their house. "I was thinking, maybe we could get a cat."
Charles raised an eyebrow, though kept his focus on the road ahead of him.
"And why the bloody hell would we want a cat?" he asked Molly.
"I've always wanted one, we never got to have pets as kids." Molly replied.
"Yeah, but a cat?" Charles said incredulously.
"They're cute and fluffy and proper independent." Molly said "Just like me!"
Charles rolled his eyes, he couldn't argue with her on that one, but he decided it would probably be a good idea to change the topic away from any discussion of potential future cats they might have, in the hope that Molly might forget about it.
"So today I got an invite to a big black tie dinner charity dinner thing, I need a plus one. I mean I was thinking of asking my mum. But I don't know if you'd like to come with me?" he asked Molly with a teasing tone to his voice.
Molly sensed that he wanted a change of topic, she raised her own eyebrow at him but decided to go along with it. Cat talk could happen later.

"How about a dog?" Charles asked Molly as they walked into their house after they arrived home.
"A dog?" Molly asked as Charles opened the front door. "Can't say I fancy that idea." She added as she took her coat off and hung it up in the cloakroom.
"I always had dogs when I was growing up, they're amazing fun!" Charles told her.
Molly walked through her house to the kitchen where she filled up the kettle and turned it on.
"Dogs are big and smelly and need a lot of attention." She said as she turned on Charles' precious Nespresso machine. "Just like you!" she added with a giggle.
Charles scowled at his girlfriend's gentle teasing.
"We could get a smaller dog... Anyway at least a dog wouldn't scratch up my beautiful sofas." He said, sitting down at the kitchen table.
"That's what a scratch post is for!" Molly replied, "A cat wouldn't chew up my precious shoes." She added.
"That's what chew toys are for!" Charles retorted, mimicking Molly's tone.
Molly put her hands on her hips and glared over at her boyfriend. Charles bit his lip to suppress a laugh.
"I want a cat." Molly told him.
"Well I want a dog." Charles replied.
"Well then, we might gonna need to compromise." Molly said.

Sam was bouncing with excitement as he ran out of his mum's car to the front door of his dad and Molly's house. Molly had told him about their new pet when they had last spoken on the phone and he couldn't wait to see it.
After what felt like an eternity, Molly opened the front door and Sam ran into the house like a whirlwind. He dropped his bags at the bottom of the stairs and then turned to Molly with a huge grin.
"They're in the living room." She told Sam knowing exactly what he was waiting for. "Go in quietly though, Luna is a bit shy still." She added.
Sam nodded and practically tiptoed towards the living room. When he opened the door he was greeted by the sight of his dad sat on the floor, dangling a feathered cat toy around and chasing after it was a tiny ragdoll kitten.
"Awwwwwh dad she's so cute!" Sam whispered loudly, as he walked slowly up to his dad at the kitten. The kitten looked up at Sam as he approached and walked over to sniff him.
"Hi Luna." Sam whispered to the kitten "You are very cute and small."
Luna having decided that she liked Sam, flopped down onto the floor next to him and purred loudly as he stroked her soft fur.
Molly smiled and turned to Rebecca who had followed them into the living room.
"Charles wanted a dog and I wanted a cat. So we compromised and got a cat." She said with a giggle.
