CHAPTER FOURTEEN

After disappearing through the curtains and reemerging backstage, Ashley and Lita were discussing plans for SmackDown the following night when they turned a corner and ran into a very familiar face for both of them.

Lita did the unexpected as she looked into the eyes of her ex-husband, and smiled at him. "Well, damn, if this isn't a surprise. Didn't you just retire, old man?" She laughed and ruffled his hair. "Nice haircut. I thought boy bands were out."

"It's nice to see you, too, Lita," Edge laughed, putting his arms around Lita and pulling her close, into a tight hug against his chest. When he released her a moment later, he looked at her friend and protégé with the multicolored hair, who was also smiling at him then. "You brought Ashley back with you, huh? It's nice to re-meet you, I guess."

"I can see why you traded up from Matt, now." Ashley smiled seductively, batting her eyelashes, as Lita fought back laughter. "You like nicer than ever, don't you… you've done a very good job keeping in shape, with that neck injury." Ashley looked him up and down, and Edge took a breath in through his teeth, stepping away from her and putting Lita between the two of them, returning his attention to the redhead.

"Well, it was nice to see you again. I've got to get out there, the WWE Universe has a big surprise." He leaned down to kiss her cheek, waving awkwardly with one hand to Ashley, who was still checking him out, shamelessly. "I'll see the two of you later, maybe… I'll definitely try to see you, though, Lita."

You think you know me…

The crowd in Portland, Oregon, went absolutely ape-shit as they watched Edge walk out onto the stage in front of them.

He took his time getting from the stage into the ring, and then accepted a microphone as he stood there, basking in the cheers he was receiving from the crowd.

"Thank you Edge!"

"One more match!"

"Thank you Edge!"

"One more match!"

Edge laughed, his head falling back a bit as he did this, before shaking his hair out and looking through the crowd at all of them. "I've got a surprise for each and every one of you, and everyone watching at home." The crowd cheered as Edge stated, "The WWE has hired me to be a trainer for the up-and-coming talent. I'm going to be overseeing their growth and suggesting who will be moving up in the ranks and who needs more training." The crowd was still eating out of the palm of his hand, and he waved out at them as they screamed. "As much as I'm going to love being back, I still can't be wrestling. It'll be good to see all of you again. I've missed this."

Edge exited the ring then to the shouts and cheers of the crowd, who were absolutely wild at the idea of having Edge back.

Natalya was entering first on SmackDown, and as the guitar riff echoed through the arena, mixed in with the hysterical cheers of fans, she walked out onto the stage, all business. She couldn't make herself smile, she was so angry. She stormed to the ring, turning sharply on her heel to look at the stage as DEAR's theme music started to play.

Gail Kim walked out to the music, with Maria on her heels. Natalya scowled at her former friend, who entered as normal. She had just been cleared for the match, and still had stitches in her head. But she didn't care. Gail needed to be brought back down to Earth.

Gail jumped up onto the apron to do her signature pose before getting into the ring, and was shocked when Natalya grabbed her by the hair and pulled her into the ring over the top rope. Maria shouted in anger at the ref, who rang the bell as soon as he realized Gail and Natalya were fighting and weren't going to stop long enough for the bell.

Natalya held the offense for most of the match, until Gail reversed an Irish Whip and sent Natalya into the corner.

"It's like you've taken a dive off the deep end, sweetie." Gail taunted when she finally got up to her feet from Natalya's offense, walking backwards and away from her opponent.

"Don't you call me sweetie, traitor!" Natalya ran for Gail again, but Gail took her down in a basic drop kick, and then began to pound on her with kicks and hits, taking second-long breaks as not to get disqualified until the referee pulled her back, moving her away from Natalya and telling her to give it a rest. While the ref's back was turned, Maria got into the ring and put her foot on Natalya's throat as she kneeled down.

"You will never be as good as DEAR," Maria said as she slithered back out of the ring, and Gail was on the attack once more, pulling Natalya to her feet.

Natalya stumbled back and then ran forward, but Gail grabbed her by her feet, shoved her back with one foot to her shoulder, and then hit her with the Eat Defeat just like she had Alicia Fox.

Maria got into the ring to help Gail attack Natalya as the referee got out of the ring, trying to avoid the fight but get security. It turned out that he didn't need to do that, as down the ramp suddenly came a flash of lighting which slid into the ring to pull the girls off of Natalya.

"Oh my gosh!" Michael Cole's jaw dropped as he recognized who it was. "Booker, do you see who that is?!"

"Tamina has been out on injury for weeks, but here she is, back and better than ever!"

"I don't know about you two, but I'm sure excited to see more of this on next week's SmackDown."

Tamina and Natalya threw Maria and Gail from the ring on opposite sides, and then backed up to the center of the ring. They slammed into each other, and then turned around, glaring.

The last time Natalya and Tamina had seen each other, they had been on opposite sides of the field… but now, they had no choice.

Tamina held out hand for Natalya to shake, and Natalya accepted it, shaking her hand before they turned to watch Maria and Gail walk backstage.
