A/N: Thank you for the follows and reviews! Here's the second chapter (sorry it's short). Enjoy!
That night when they got home, they were all too emotionally drained to eat dinner, so they went to bed. As Ferb entered his and Phineas' room, Perry greeted him. Picking up the platypus, he climbed into bed and explained the situation to his pet. He couldn't put his finger on it, but Ferb had always felt that Perry knew more than he let on.
"I'm afraid Perry. I truly am. And I feel like it's my fault." He looked around the room. "I just realized this will be the first night I've spent without Phineas in years. At least you're here Perry. Good night." The platypus chattered sleepily and pretended to go to sleep.
Once he was sure that Ferb was asleep, Perry slipped out of his arms and out the door. Poor Phineas. What was a platypus to do? He made his way to the lab via one of his many secret passageways. He clicked a button on the consul and the screen flickered to life to reveal a snoring Monogram.
"Harumph, hm, wha? Five more minutes…" Major Monogram mumbled sleepily while holding a teddy bear. He blinked open an eye.
"Oh, Agent P. What are you doing here?"
*serious chattering*
"Grave news? What's happened?"
*explanatory chattering*
"Great googly moogly! I'm sorry to hear that Agent P. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help."
*chattering*
"Time off. Hm, yes, I suppose you have deserved it. I wish that boy the best. Good night Agent P."
Perry signed off and returned to bed. If only he could do more.
The next day, Ferb was already at the hospital when their friends arrived.
"Oh Phineas!" Isabella cried and clapped her hands to her mouth in distress. They all moved to the bedside.
"I cannot believe it," said Baljeet. "How long did the doctor say it will take for him to recover?"
"Possibly never," Ferb admitted. "His back and brain damage were rather severe." Isabella whimpered and Buford placed a supporting hand on her shoulder.
The three of them stayed a while longer. As they were leaving, they all hugged Ferb.
"You know where to find us if you need us," Buford said. I need you now. Ferb wanted to say.
"Hang in there Ferb," consoled Baljeet. Isabella leaned down and kissed Phineas on the cheek, pausing to wipe away her tears, before hugging Ferb.
"I'm so sorry Ferb. I know how close you two are. Please let me know if anything else happens." Ferb nodded in affirmation. The three friends bade good bye and left. Ferb held back a sigh. He had the full support of his friends, yet he had never felt so alone. He wondered why.
The answer was currently in a coma.
