A/N: Hello! Long time no see! So, this is sort of Part 2 to this story and I hope you like it! Enjoy and reviews are always appreciated!
Phineas wheeled down the hallway, turning around halfway back to call to his parents, "Come on! Let's go!"
"We're coming!" his mom said. "Hold your horses!"
"I've been here three and a half months. I've held them long enough!" And he wheeled down the hallway, even faster than before. Ferb jogged to catch up with his brother.
"Once we're out of here, we should trick out your wheelchair."
"Can you make it like Meap's spaceship?"
Ferb nodded.
"Sweet."
As his parents checked him out at the desk, Phineas spun in circles in his wheelchair. It had been half a month since he had woken up and he'd been working with physical therapists ever since. However, Phineas had yet to twitch a toe by himself, much less stand and walk.
Thankfully nothing kept the optimistic inventor down for long. He and Ferb had made their own plans for Phineas rehab, including, but not limited to, a bionic skeleton.
More importantly though, the brothers were starting middle school in a week. They'd registered Phineas for classes as soon as they knew he'd be able to attend. He was especially excited for a robotics class he was taking, but unfortunately the only class he had with Ferb would be band.
As soon as they pulled up to their house, Phineas was welcomed home by his friends and family. It was so good to see them all!
Isabella nearly tackled him, but made herself be gentle as she gave him an awkwardly positioned hug (the chair was gonna take some getting used to). He whispered something in her ear and she blushed, but smiled, furiously.
As he and his friends ate pie and ice cream they compared their school schedules. He had math with Baljeet and Language Arts with Isabella.
"What's been going on with you guys? How was the rest of summer?"
His friends were a bit stilted as they talked about what he'd missed.
"Most of it was worrying about you, to be honest," Isabella finally admitted. The others murmured their agreement. Phineas smiled sheepishly.
"I'm sorry about that guys. I'll be more careful next time."
"Like hell you better," Ferb muttered, nudging him playfully. With the ice broken, everyone laughed and turned their discussion to the first day of school.
It came soon enough.
"You ready for this bro?" Phineas asked as they wheeled and walked to the front doors. Ferb's face was set firm and he nodded. He glanced down at his brother.
"Are you?" Phineas took a deep breath.
"I think so. Text me if you need me, ok?"
Ferb nodded. "You too."
"Will do." They arrived at Phineas' first class. "See you in band." Ferb waved and Phineas rolled into class.
His first few classes went by surprisingly quickly. He found out that he had art and science with Django and Language Arts with most of the Fireside Girls, including Isabella. Band was awesome; the teacher seemed really fun and it was the best class to have with Ferb. He had math with Baljeet and afterwards came lunch.
Phineas had brought a lunch from home, so he wheeled carefully through the lunchroom looking for somewhere to sit. He spotted Buford at the end of one of the tables and went to join him.
"Hey Buford!" Phineas said, pulling up to the end of the table.
"Hey Dinner Bell. How's it going?"
"Pretty good! How about you?"
"Not bad. I have math with Ferb and science with Isabella and Baljeet." They chit chatted about their first classes until someone sat down across from them.
Three someone's actually. Two of them had the build of Buford and the third was a bit taller and leaner.
"Hey Buford. Mind if we sit here?"
"Not at all! How's your guys' summer been?"
"Oh, pretty good. So who's Wheels over here?" he asked, nodding at Phineas.
"Oh, I'm Phineas." They boy's eyes widened slightly as if he hadn't expected a response.
"I'm Marcus. This is Cooper and Bryant."
Phineas quietly ate his lunch while the three friends caught up with Buford; apparently they worked out at the same bully gym and had gone to a weekend long camp together. Finally the bell rang, giving Phineas and excuse to leave and head to his next class: robotics.
He was so excited! An actual robotics course! He'd heard only good things about the teacher and it sounded like fairly challenging stuff, but Phineas wasn't too nervous considering what they'd done this summer.
The room was fairly large, with square tables spread throughout the room. There was a seating chart up on the projector and he was mildly surprised to find he sat on the front row. The person he sat next to was already there.
"Hi! Are you Grace?" The girl looked up, a bit startled, but then smiled.
"Yeah. Are you Phineas?"
"Yup! Nice to meet you."
"You too." She watched as Phineas hoisted himself into his seat then folded up his chair so it wouldn't get in the way as much. He turned back to her and she stopped herself from staring.
"So do you live in the neighborhood then?" she asked. The two made small talk until the rest of the class arrived and Phineas noticed Cooper, Bryant, and Marcus all had this class as well. Grace was also glancing around nervously until she finally slouched in defeat once the bell rang.
"What's wrong?" Phineas asked.
"I was really hoping I wasn't gonna be the only girl in this class." Phineas looked around and sure enough, she was.
"If you're anything like the other girls I know, you'll blow us all out of the water, no sweat." She smiled gratefully, then the teacher came in. He looked to be in his early 30s and warm brown skin and thick black hair. He wore thick frame glasses, a green shirt, and had a smile on his face.
"Hello class! I am Mr. Roberts and welcome to Robotics. Let's go over the disclosure, which I'm sure you've had plenty of today, then we'll get started."
Phineas like him immediately. He made jokes as they went over the disclosure and wrapped it up pretty quickly.
"Now," he said rubbing his hands together. "Let's get started." He pulled out a small remote control car and carefully unscrewed part of the plating, revealing some of the wiring. Using the camera on the projector, he put the image up on the screen.
"Can anyone tell me what these two wires do?" Phineas grinned and raised his hand; this was easy.
"Yes… Phineas?" he said glancing at the seating chart.
"They control the-" He stopped. It had been on the tip of his tongue, but now it was just gone. "They control, uh… It slipped my mind. Sorry." Mr. Roberts smiled kindly, but Phineas could hear Marcus and his friends sniggering behind him.
"That's fine. Anyone else?" No one else raised their hand so he continued explaining how it worked.
As he explained it Phineas just got more and more confused; not by what he was teaching, it made sense, but it was like this was his first time learning it. It was familiar but brand new. He tried to shrug it off, he was probably just rusty was all, but he couldn't help that twist of unease in the pit of his stomach.
A/N: Thoughts? Thanks for reading!
