Disclaimer: I do not own Naruto.
It was already bright when I opened my eyes and there was a knock on my door.
"Iruna-san, wake up!" Naruto said after knocking on my door. "It's time for breakfast!"
I sighed closing my eyes, and the little blond kept knocking on my door. I got up to my feet and opened the door immediately stopping his insistent knocking.
"B-breakfast" Naruto stammered a bit when I looked down at him before he scampered back to the dining area.
After washing my face, I joined them at the table and started to eat. While I was eating I noticed Kakashi and Minato-san had paused. I stopped and turned to them raising an eyebrow.
"You have your sharingan on." Minato-san said to me smiling.
"Sorry." I said before turning back to my food and cutting the chakra flowing into my eyes.
I left the house as soon as I got ready for the day and went to the riverside. I didn't gather any pebbles and I just stayed there hidden behind one of the trees. I had my eyes closed listening to the water flowing and the leaves rustling. It was soothing and calming.
"Iruna-san" I felt someone shaking me awake. I groaned before I pried one eye open and turned to Neji with Hinata behind him, they both had wondering looks on them.
"Why are you sleeping out here?" Haru spoke standing beside Hinata with his arms folded.
"Just resting my eyes." I replied.
"You were sleeping." Haru said flatly. "You could get sick from sleeping out in the open, or…" He trailed off. I can only imagine that Ne would nab me so Danzo can get my eyes or something else.
"I'll be sure to stay in bed if I want to sleep the day away." I told him as I got to my feet and stretched my arms up to loosen my muscles. "Didn't know that you would care."
"I'm not cold hearted." He said.
"I suppose not if you're walking these two back and forth from your compound." I replied before turning to the two kids. "Are you two here to play again?"
The two cousins shook their heads. "Haru-san told us to meet him here." Hinata said. "He loves to stay by the riverside."
Oh, so he and Hinata have something in common, or was it Hinata taking up on his hobby?
"Well, don't let me stop you with your…walks. Let's play some other time Neji-kun, Hinata-chan. Later, Haru-san." I said turning on my heel to head to KIA monument.
When I arrived there, I wasn't the only one who thought of visiting. Kakashi was there.
"Paying your respects, Kaka-nii?" I said as I stood next to him.
Kakashi just glanced at me before turning his attention back in front.
xxx
"You let them die." Obito-nii said. "You knew, but you didn't do anything to save them."
"That's—"
"I don't want to hear your excuse." He said cutting me off. "I thought they were important to you or was that all an act?"
An act? Why would I act about caring for Rin-san or Kushina-sensei?
"I wasn't close to Rin-san, but she was my friend all the same. She was also important to me."
"Maybe not that important." Obito-nii said scornfully.
How was I supposed to know that Rin-san would still die? I still managed to save Minato-san, wasn't that enough? Do I have to save every single person that I know dies?!
"Do you think I would just let someone important to me die without even doing anything?"
"Did you even want to save her?"
xxx
"How long have you known?" Kakashi asked bringing me out of my thoughts.
"About?"
"Rin"
"I thought she would be safe with you two."
"Kushina-san?"
I just shook my head.
"Who else?"
What was I supposed to tell him? "I'll see you back at the house, Kakashi."
I went to the Hokage monument. I tried and failed to clear my mind. I know that I was bound to slip somewhere. I mean I told sensei about what I knew and even Minato-san. I couldn't tell everyone, why would anyone believe a child like me? I was lucky that they did believe. Kakashi and Obito have some inkling that I know some things, the question is will they get in the way or not? As for Obito, will he step in the direction of hate?
I sighed as I got to my feet. The wind was a bit strong causing my braid to whip a bit, but it was nice to feel the wind against my skin. Maybe it's a calm before a storm.
I returned to the house just before it got dark, Minato-san was by the stove with Naruto with him standing on one of the chairs, so he could see the contents of the pot. Each time it was Minato-sans' turn to cook, Naruto was always the first to arrive at the house and would always help his dad with dinner. It was sweet and it was their father and son moment together.
I left the two blonds with their cooking and went to the study room to start with those scrolls. I decided to make use of the advantage of the kage bunshin and I do have the sharingan.
"You can just lock yourself in the archives instead, mistress, they have more information on seals." Kage bunshin number one said when she looked at the scrolls on my desk.
"It's a hassle to look for them myself." I said to them. "Come on. Three heads are better than one."
"You mean two additional copies of the same brain are better."
"Whatever you say" I told them as I sat down on my chair.
"Don't we get a chair?" Number two asked.
"The floor is wide."
My kage bunshins glowered at me, but they each grabbed a scroll from the pile and sat down on the floor. After reading through four scrolls, I leaned on my chair and closed my eyes for a bit. My eyes were tired from reading. There were more words than the previous and it was just the explanation, not even close to the whole of the seal.
"You two okay?" I asked them.
"You should be more worried of yourself. You'll get a headache and we won't." The bunshin on my left said, well almost sang.
"Iruna-chan" Minato-san said from the doorway, and he paused when I raised my head to him. "Time for dinner and don't dispel them at the same time."
"You two can dispel, once you're done reading the scroll." I said pushing the chair back as I stood up.
It was five days later that I got up from bed without feeling like I have someone hammering on my head non-stop.
"Are you feeling better, Iruna-chan?" Minato-san asked me when I took my seat the table.
"Yes." I answered.
"I did tell you not to dispel them at the same time."
"I told them to dispel once they finish reading. I guess it was too much that I used my sharingan together with the kage bunshin." I told him. "It was an overload of information." I never thought it would happen to me here. I was sure it would just be in my previous life.
"What's the kage bunshin?" Naruto asked.
Hm, with Minato-san alive, how will Naruto learn the kage bunshin, it was one of his signature jutsus'. I guess. I'll just have to do something about that.
"A jutsu" I said to him, actually, I'm baiting him to ask more. "You use it to make a copy of yourself."
"Oh, our sensei said that we would learn that once we reach our fifth year in the academy."
"Want me to teach it to you?" I asked.
"Sure!" Naruto said grinning. "I can't wait to tell duckbutt. I have you teaching me a jutsu!"
"Iruna-chan, what are you thinking?" Minato-san asked suspiciously.
"Nothing, I just wanted to help him." I replied.
Minato-san nodded. "Iruna-chan, drop by the hospital to get a check-up. Once you're done come to the office."
"Another mission?" I asked grabbing my chopsticks and my bowl of rice.
"Is there any other reason to call you to the office?"
There are a number of things I can think of. I answered in my mind.
After changing into my casual clothes, I headed out of the house together with Naruto, to make sure he does go to the academy and as for Kakashi, I haven't seen him after I spoke to him at the KIA monument.
"Stay in class, Naruto-kun." I reminded him.
"Yeah. Yeah. See you around, Iruna-san!" Naruto called waving before he ran towards the academy building.
After watching him enter the building, I took off onto the roofs to head to the hospital. The faster I get this check-up over with I can go and hear the details of the mission.
ooo
"What do you mean you used the kage bunshin and sharingan at the same time?" Itachi asked.
By some twist of fate, or whatever, I ended up with Itachi doing the check-up. I mean come on, there are other medics in the hospital and I get stuck with my twin. When it comes to my health, he's like a mother hen.
"It's is that. I made two kage bunshins' of myself while I had my sharingan active, so I could finish reading the scrolls I had." I answered.
"How many scrolls?"
"I read four, one, read five, and the second read four." I mumbled to myself. "That's thirteen."
"And they were scrolls about seals." Itachi said.
"It's the only thing that I study as someone specializing in it." I replied.
"Neesama" Itachi said, and if he ever showed his emotions he would have groaned. "The sharingan processes a lot of information when you use it. You know that, and the longer you use it the strain to your brain increases and if you've used the kage bunshin you're just adding more."
It felt like I was a child and Itachi was currently scolding me for doing something stupid, which in this case is true.
"I'll remember not to use them at the same time to study." I replied.
"Will you really?" Itachi said raising an eyebrow, the only indication that he didn't believe me.
"I will. You could at least believe me about not using the two together." I said. I already have one that doesn't believe me.
"Is something bothering you, Neesama?"
"You know the usual seals." I answered shrugging. "I should go."
"Neesama, do you want to get some dango later?"
"Maybe another time, Itachi, I have to meet with the Yondaime at his office." I said over my shoulder. "We should have Shisui and Sasuke join us when we get dango."
I went to the office, and nodded to the other occupant present in the office that was aside from the Hokage himself.
"You called Hokage-sama?" I said as I stood in front of his desk next to Hyuuga Haru.
The Yondaime nodded. "Your mission will be to apprehend rogue shinobis that have been preying on travelers and merchants. They are a group of four."
"Is there a specific pass that these incidents occurred, Hokage-sama?" I asked, I have dealt with thieves before on the occasion were low ranked rogue shinobi.
"Tenrai Pass"
"Do you have any other questions?"
"Yes, is it just the two of us?" I asked.
"You two are both adept chuunin. I'm sure you two can handle it. You have dealt with these types of incidents after all Iruna." Minato-san said smiling.
"Shouldn't it be fine that I went by myself?"
I felt white eyes narrow at me.
"Not saying that my companion won't be of help." I added.
"This mission is for two to three members, but I took into account both of your skills and I believe that you would be able to accomplish this feat with the both of you. Now, I'm sure you two still have to prepare for your mission, you are dismissed."
We were already outside of the tower when he decided to speak up.
"We'll meet at the gates an hour after sunrise." He said before heading in the direction of the Hyuuga compound.
I looked up at the sky to check the time and it was just midday, early in the afternoon. Well, I do have a mission, but I already have my gear ready in advance for situations like this. I might as well go to the riverside to gather some pebbles.
ooo
The following day, I met up with Haru at the gates before we went to the Tenrai pass. It wouldn't take us that long to reach the pass. It was a half-day trip to get there. When we got there, the place was too quiet for my liking. One would still hear the birds chirping, and there was a certain weigh in the air. Traces of chakra being used, after staying so long in the avian realm and being exposed to nature chakra, it was easier to tell if chakra was just there or used.
"Haru-san is there anyone close by?" I asked.
Haru activated his byakugan and after looking about he turned to me. "Just the four rogue shinobis."
"How close are they?"
"Within a kilometer radius"
"Any animals close in that radius?"
"None."
"Perfect" I said grinning before I went through my hand seals summoning Haji and handed him a pebble. "Here." I handed it to Haji, who took it by the beak. "It has a minute time delay, you know the drill, and please don't swallow it this time. You gave me a heart attack when you swallowed the pebble I gave you before."
Haji narrowed his eyes at me before he took off.
"What are you doing?" Haru asked.
"Finishing this mission." I answered.
"You're not even going to ask for my opinion?"
"There's no need to ask." I replied before grabbing his arm and placing a banishment seal on him. "Come on, we wouldn't want to be here." I said as I activated the banishment seal and sent us to Tenya pass. It was the path opposite of Tenrai pass and lead to up a mountain.
We were far enough and it was the perfect spot to watch the show. Haji had already poofed away.
"Why did you bring us here? The rogue shinobis are over there!" Haru said giving me a heated look.
"We would have missed it if we stayed there." I told him.
"Miss what?"
Just as he asked that there was the sound of crackling and a dome of lightning appeared over Tenrai pass.
"The lightning show" I said smirking.
"That's a jutsu?" Haru said surprised as the dome of lightning dissipated after a few seconds.
"It's a seal based of a lightning area jutsu, I call it lightning rain. I made some tweaks to it. Anyone within the dome that uses chakra is more susceptible to getting struck by it that's why I was saying that we wouldn't want to be there."
"How were you able to use a seal from here?" He asked.
"The pebble I gave my summon." I answered.
"Did you kill those shinobi?"
"It's not that strong to kill only to shock them to lose consciousness, but if they were ever covered with water, it's a high possibility for them to die. Although, just to be sure can you check?" I asked.
He sighed before using his byakugan. "They are alive, but unconscious."
"Let's go then." I said grabbing his arm again to use the banishment seal to send us back to Tenrai pass.
When we were back in Tenrai Pass, I let Haru lead us to the rogue shinobis, and using ninja wire together with chakra suppressor seals we tied them up and next was to bring them with us to Konoha.
"You can also use the Hirashin?" Haru asked me while we were setting-up camp.
"No." I answered. "What gave you that idea?"
"Earlier you brought us to Tenya pass" He replied.
"That was just another of my seals. I guess, it's something like the Hiraishin, but it has a different seal formula."
"Can't you use it to get to Konoha faster?"
"I can." I replied staring at him.
"Then—"
"If you want I can send you" I said to him before nodding to the rogue shinobi we captured "and them back to Konoha." If he agrees, I can take my leisure time to scope out the area of the Kyuubis' presence.
"Thank you for the offer, but I decline." Haru replied.
"Don't you want to get back to Konoha right away?" I asked.
"It sounds to me like you're in a hurry to go back."
"I wasn't in Konoha for years, and nor was I in a hurry to return either, so why would I rush back?"
He stared at me before his eyebrows furrowed together. "Why then did you return?"
"Because of a bet."
"A bet?" He said a disbelieving look on him. I suppose he was expecting something else.
"Yes." I replied, smiling as it did sound ridiculous. "The bet was if the anbu, the Yondaime sent, is able to find me in the location I was in would I come back. I was sure they wouldn't find me, but someone decided to give them the information they needed to find me." I said, huffing at the end recalling how Jiraiya-san had told Kakashi.
"You had the choice to escape even if they found you."
"That's true with my seal, it would be easy." I answered. "But I owe the Yondaime enough that I would keep my word."
Haru, I think chuckled or was it snorted? I wasn't really sure. It had been soft and Renzo was saying something about it being clear.
It took us four days before we got back to Konoha because of the rogue shinobi that came with us. I let Haru go to the Hokage to report while I brought the four to the T&I department. While I was there I asked about Anko, but still found that she had yet to come back. I would have to use my own resources to get an idea how to remove the cursed seal.
On my way out of the T&I department, Obito came from the hallway further into the T&I department. I stared as he passed by. I was surprised that he would be here. Why would he be here?
"Obito-nii" I called him when I caught up to him in the street.
He paused, but he kept his back to me. What was I supposed to tell him? I just acted without thinking. It felt like forever, but it was only seconds before he walked away. I sighed before I thought to head on over to the avian realm. My resources were still limited even though Minato-san has been giving me seal scrolls to read.
The following days from our return to Konoha, when I came across Haru I would greet him, but he would just walk by like he didn't see me. During the previous mission I was sure that we were getting along or maybe it was only on my end?
The following week from our previous mission we, Haru and I, were called again for another one by Minato-san.
"Haru, Iruna, your mission this time is to rescue a merchants' son as soon as possible. This is a B-rank mission. He was kidnapped two hours ago, and we received the request just now. Iruna, I trust you've been to the town of Nanari?" Minato-san asked.
"I've passed the town while traveling." I replied.
"Do you have your receptive seal there?"
I nodded.
"You know what to do."
"I'll meet you on the roof of the tower in fifteen, Haru-san." I said to him when we stepped out of the tower.
Haru was already on the roof when I arrived, and with a nod from him. I held his arm and activated the seal to get to the town of Nanari. I left Haru to locate where the nabbers were with his byakugan and I followed his lead. We caught up to them on horses and the one at the very front had a boy tied up lying faced down on the horse with the leader.
"Can you use your seals?" Haru asked me.
I shook my head. "I can't not if the kid is there. Most of my seals are bordering to offensive and not to mention destructive. I have my genjutsu seals, but I don't use them because of their potency to damage someone mentally."
Haru stared at me. Maybe, I shouldn't have mentioned the damage them mentally.
"How about normal genjutsu?"
Oh, maybe that's why he was staring at me. "I know one."
"One?!" He hissed. "You're the Uchiha between us. You're supposed to know more genjutsu than me."
"I'm an Uchiha, but I use fuinjutsu more than genjutsu! Most of our genjutsu is connected to our sharingan." I said outraged. "Can't you use genjutsu?" I don't think I saw a Hyuuga use anything else, even in the show, were they just taijutsu users?
"How were you able to save the heir before without getting scathed?" He said dodging the question.
"Genjutsu with my sharingan, and I would need eye contact for that." I said huffing. "We just need to get the kid, not catch the nabbers. The kid is more important."
"Well, we can't go rushing in, we're still outnumbered." Haru said while we followed the group in the shadows. "We'll have to wait for it to get darker."
We trailed after the group of bandits and as it got darker, they stopped to set-up camp. The boy was still unconscious and they had two men watch him. We still had to wait a bit longer before we rescue the kid.
One by one the bandits went to sleep and there were only two of them left awake to take keep watch. Under the cover of darkness and with a simple genjutsu, it was easy picking as the genjutsu settled in with the watchers asleep. Haru was the one to go in and get the kid, while I went about placing surprises for the bandits when they wake up.
We were a mile away from the bandits' camp when the boy woke up with a start and he panicked when his eyes fell on us. He started to cry and well, when a child starts crying it was difficult to calm them. I tried to calm the boy down, but I didn't know if it would work the same way I calmed Sasuke and that was when he was as a baby!
Haru probably in pain from watching decided to take matter into his hands. He had gone and hugged the boy at the same time rubbing his back. I gaped at him, shocked. He was able to calm him and he was even carrying him! Hyuuga Haru was carrying the boy in his arms. While the boy had his head on Harus' shoulder, and probably wiped his snot on the front of Harus' clothes. Haru narrowed his eyes at me while I gawked at him.
How was I not to? He was carrying a boy in his arms and he was patting the damn kids back!
The boy eventually fell into slumber after crying so hard and probably from the shock. We reached the town of Nanari without any trouble and returned the boy to his parents. With the mission accomplished it was time to return to Konoha.
"Are we going to use your seal?" Haru asked me.
"Do you want me to use my seal?" I asked turning to him. "I only ever use them to get around faster during emergencies."
"We'll just take the long way back then. How many days back to Konoha from here?"
"Almost a week, Konoha is northeast of here, but we'll be passing through a mountain. I can use my seal for you as an exception." I replied grinning. "Since you were able to calm the boy down."
He turned away from me and ran ahead without a word. I shook my head before following.
"So, why don't you use genjutsu?" I asked Haru while we were eating dinner at the inn of the village we came by just as it was getting dark.
Haru sighed. "There is no need for us to learn genjutsu, aside from cancelling it."
"Okay, but why? You didn't answer my question."
"Our eyes can see through genjutsu, and we have our Juuken (Gentle Fist). We can stop anyone from using their chakra using it."
"How will you do that if you're against a long range opponent?"
Haru didn't answer and continued to eat.
We were back in Konoha and right after reporting to the Hokage, we went on our separate ways, or not. The two of us were walking down the business district in silence and while we were there we came across Shisui and Sasuke.
"Neesan!" Sasuke shouted in glee to see me.
"Hey, Sasuke" I said ruffling his hair, for it appearing to be spiky it was actually soft.
Our otouto from his smile he suddenly pouted. "Neesan, aren't you also going to teach me? That dobe said that you were going to teach him a jutsu."
"I already promised I would teach you a seal." I told him.
"But that's when I become chuunin."
"I can always help you with your…training, Sasuke. Besides you also have Shisui and Itachi to train with."
"I know, but…" Sasuke looked away still pouting.
"How about I train you tomorrow together with Tenten? How does sound?" I said as I got down to one knee and tapped his forehead with two fingers.
"Tenten is busy at their store tomorrow." Sasuke said.
"Then the day after tomorrow then, for now how about I treat us to some barbeque?"
"Really?!" Sasukes' eye twinkled in excitement.
"Yes, really." I said.
"Am I invited?" Shisui asked after Sasuke nodded.
"You are, idiot." I told him. "Oh, do you think Itachi can get off earlier at the Hospital? I told him the four of us should go eat some time." Well, that was for dango, I hope he doesn't mind.
"I'll go check. Sasuke, you stay with her." Shisui said before he jogged away.
"We'll meet you at Yakiniku Q!" I shouted after him. "Want to join us as well, Haru-san?"
Haru shook his head before he went off.
"Who was that?" Sasuke asked me.
"Oh, my mission partner." I replied.
AN: Well, what do you guys think? Any thoughts? I'm still thinking about Obito in this respect. He actually gave me a headache, if he's not a pawn of Madara, then what? For now, I'll leave you guys with this chapter. Ja ne!
