chapter 17 appointment

It's been exactly four months and two weeks since I found out I was pregnant with my second child, (which means I am five months pregnant) and the day I have been waiting for has finally arrived…my appointment to find out the gender of our new baby!

Although I'm excited about this appointment, I can't say the same about Usagi or Izuru… both of them were in the living room doing their own thing. Usagi was typing away on his laptop, occasionally taking a sip of his coffee, while Izuru happily played house with Aiko who I promised to babysit today while his mother and father went to a meeting. For some reason, after almost three years and no sign of the puppy love fading, Aiko's parents just gave up and allowed Aiko to have more time with Izuru. During the freed up time that the two now had, they took up better job positions and have been much busier than they were before. But today might have not been the best day to have Aiko over… I kind of forgot about him when I agreed to the appointment, but with less than an hour left before we have to leave, I couldn't just ask his parents to cancel their meeting, after all they only dropped him off thirty minutes ago.

With a long sigh I stretched out my back and walked into the living room. Usagi looked up from his computer, took a sip of coffee then gave me his normal smirk like smile. I smiled back and leaned on the arm of the couch. I stayed in that position for a little while, just enjoying watching the boys play. Usagi got up from his spot on the couch to give me a kiss on the forehead and to put a hand on the lump. Usually when usagi did this, nothing would happen except for me getting uncomfortable, however this time was a little different. When Usagi placed his hand on my stomach the child within turned, and moved, and with its movement kicked usagis hand.

"oh! It kicked me…" usagi recoiled his hand in surprise. I smiled and let out a giggle.

"I think this is the first time I've felt it move…hehe…I think it likes you Usagi."

"Hmm? You think so?" I nodded my head in response, and then glanced up to the clock on the far side wall.

"Usagi, were going to leave in a half an hour so make sure to be ready by then ok?" Usagi nodded his head and sat back down in front of his laptop.

"Yeah, yeah, I'll be ready." I nodded with a smile and sat on the other couch with a book to bide my time.

The time had passed quickly and soon the family plus one was in the car driving to the hospital. When we got there, i checked in and took a seat in the waiting room, only having to wait about ten minutes before being called in by the nurse. To my surprise, the nurse was nice enough to allow my whole family in, even though the room was small. The nurse had me lay down on a bed, and then told me that the doctor would be in soon. I thanked her and watched as she exited the room. Usagi stood on the right side of the bed and held my hand while the two boys sat together on the edge of the bed. it only took a few more minutes of waiting, before a short lady doctor walked in. she was an older lady, maybe in her 40's or 50's, and had her salt and pepper hair tied back into a messy bun. She gave me a smile, before sitting down in her chair and gabbing my free hand.

"Are you excited Usami-chan? Todays the day you find out what your child is going to be!" I nodded at the women with a smile on my face.

"Of course I'm excited! There no way I wouldn't be!" the women clapped her hands together, and then cleared her throat.

"Well then let's get started shall we?" she began by turning on the machine. The light from the monitor glowed in the dimly lighted room. She then lifted up my gown and placed a towel on the bottom part of my stomach. The women then, took the squeeze bottle from the stand in front of her, and squeezed out a good amount of the cold blue gel onto my round belly. After that, she picked up a stick like thing that was covered in a plastic casing, and began to move it around, spreading the gel around the area. I smiled and looked down to the boys, who were staring at the black and white screen in amazement.

"Daddy what's that!?" I looked to izuru who was now pointing to the screen.

"That's inside daddy's tummy izuru. That's were your sibling is right now." Izuru hummed and looked back to the screen. I looked to the screen too, only to see a mangled and unclear image on the screen. It took a few moments of moving the stick around, before getting a somewhat clear image of my baby. The doctor paused and pointed at the little hand that was reaching up. She didn't say anything; she just pointed it out and continued. She moved to the head and chest of the baby. From there I could see its little heart pounding fast and its backbone as clear as day. This made my smile, seeing that the child inside me was still alive. The women moved the stick thing down a little, and that's when we could see its little belly and curled up legs. We watched as the baby kicked as the stick pushed into my stomach. I giggled a little when izuru and aiko gasped.

"Now Usami-chan…I want you to look closely between the legs…do you remember what I told you last time about the nub?" I nodded my head.

"The nub is the neutral stage right?" the doctor nodded her head and made the image on the screen clearer. I looked closely at the screen, looking for the sex of my child.

"Can you see it Usami-chan?" I looked even closer at the screen and then I realize and smiled. I look directly at usagi and stated what I saw.

"It's a girl." Usagis eyes widen slightly and a smirk appears on his face. Usagi squeezes my hand and repeats what I said in almost a whisper.

"It's a girl…" the doctor took away the stick and whipped off the gel with the towel.

"That's right! It's a girl! Congratulations!" I got up as soon as I was free and leaped into usagis arms. I was so excited that I was about to cry, but izuru beat me to it. Izuru cried, no scratch that…izuru balled at the news. I giggled slightly, and then walked over to my little bear.

"What's wrong izuru?"

"I wanted a brother!"
