My Life Would Suck Without You

Chapter 3

A few days later…

Janessa had gotten up early to prepare herself for class. She had to gather her uniform from the closet before she decided on how to fix her hair. Once her uniform had been picked out, she had gone to the bathroom to take a quick shower. Slipping on her uniform and shoes, she walked towards her vanity stand and began to curl her hair. Seeing that she had finished curling her hair, she slipped her backpack on and left her room. Now one of the only problems that she needed to figure out right now was how she was going to get to school since Tyler lived on campus.

"Nessie, your ride is you're here!" She heard her mother say.

'My ride?' She thought to herself as she rushed down the stairs to open the front door.

Janessa squealed when she saw who was on the other side. Her best friend, Samantha Gray stood there eager to see her. "Sammi!" Janessa exclaimed embracing her best friend.

"Oh I've missed you so much, Nessie! Please don't ever leave!" Samantha stated.

"Never ever again!" She said as the duo headed to the car.

Janessa and Samantha had been best friends since kindergarten. They had sat beside each other in class and ended up sharing their crayons. And before anyone knew it, the two had become inseparable. They'd done everything together. Sleepovers, movie nights, late night conversations about boys, and they even vacationed with each other's families.

"How was the party last night?" Samantha asked.

"It was okay. Where were you?" She asked as they got into the car.

"Oh I was there but so was Kate." Samantha muttered.

Janessa chuckled before replying, "Understandable. Caleb met the new girl there."

"New girl?" Samantha questioned.

"I think her name is Sarah." She started to explain, "But if you ask me there's something about her that gives me this weird vibe."

"What do you mean by weird vibe?" Samantha asked starting her car.

"Like there's something about her that isn't right, Sammi." She explained as both girls looked at the road they were now driving on.

"Maybe you're being paranoid. I do remember meeting her and she was nice when I met her." Samantha replied before responding, "Or maybe you're jealous?"

Janessa smacked her best friend in the arm before sticking her tongue out, "I am not jealous!"

"Mhmm! We all clearly know how in love you are with Caleb." Samantha responded smirking as Janessa blushed.

Sitting back in her seat, Janessa couldn't argue with that. She had been in love with Caleb since they were little kids. But she had always known that he only saw her as a little sister and never anything more. She never tried to push for anything to happen between them because she knew that nothing would. But the whole gang knew how she felt and she kept it hidden as best as she could when he was around. "Except for him." She whispered as she stared out the window.

A few minutes later, Caleb and Pogue had gotten to school at the same time as the girls. They both watched as the girls got out of Samantha's car. As the girls slipped on their backpacks, Caleb got out of his car while Pogue got off of his motorcycle. Pogue called out to the girls and the two guys made their way over to them.

"Morning ladies." Pogue said as he gave Janessa a hug before wrapping Samantha in his arms.

"Morning babe." Samantha said giving him a quick kiss before looking at Caleb, "Good morning, Caleb!"

"Morning Sammi." He responded looking at her then at Janessa, "Morning Baby girl."

"Morning." Janessa said as he stood beside her.

She kept her eyes focused on the couple in front of her. They had been together for as long as she could remember. Except for the fact that they were having more ups and downs these past few years because of Kate. Kate had been in love with Pogue since the day they had all started high school. She was willing to do anything to have Pogue and that meant getting Samantha out of the picture. But Pogue was always loyal to Samantha. He loved her a lot. It was because of their relationship and the relationship that her parents had that Janessa believed love did exist.

The group walked to their first class where they had decided to go to their own separate seats. The girls had decided to sit in front of Tyler and Reid while Caleb and Pogue sat on the row across from the guys. Looking around the room, Caleb already had a good sense of who in the group were going to survive school and who would probably have a difficult time this school year. He knew for a fact that Janessa and Samantha would make it through school completely well with no problems. But that had always been a given especially with both girls excelling in their academics since they were little. He, himself, would be just fine. Pogue, Reid, and Tyler would need a little encouragement. But things would definitely fall into place.

"Hi Caleb." He heard a voice say as he looked up from his seat as did Pogue.

The two saw Sarah standing there waiting for him to respond. He quickly moved to let her sit down. Pogue gave his best friend a look as Sarah sat next to him. Before Caleb had anything to say to his friend, Sarah had begun to talk about what had happened the night before. Samantha and Janessa started talking to Tyler and Reid about their morning. As they were talking, they heard a voice ask, "Is this seat taken?"

Looking over at the person, Janessa noticed a guy standing there looking at the empty seat next to her. "Umm no, no one's sitting there." She replied as the guy sat down, "Are you new here?"

"Yeah, I'm Chase Collins." He replied sticking his hand out to her.
